Chapter 12: first kiss
"She was dipper's girlfriend?/Dipper has bad taste" both candy and gideon say. with candy and mabel looking at gideon for his response
"What? i'm just stating my opinion" he mumbles
"No offense to dipper,but how did he get with her?" candy asks,mabel waves her hand
"nah it's fine. As for how,well..."
FLASHBACK
Dipper and Mabel were in their school in piedmont.
"C'mon dipper it will be fun" mabel insists as they leave their last class for the day
"For the last time mabel,no" Dipper says clearly annoyed
"But dipper,today is a big day for me. Its the cheerleader tryouts,you have to come with me!" she says pulling him by the arm.
"Mabel i already said no" he yanks his arm from her grip.
"I have better things to do then watch you try out to the cheerleading squad. plus both the captain of the football team and the captain of the cheerleading team dislike me"
"Cmon it can't be that bad" Mabel says and he simply opens his locker and picks a card that says " WE HATE YOU"
"that could be from anyone..." she tries to dismiss,dipper flips the card and it says "from cheerleading and football team captains" while he just gives her a look.
"okay they might not like you,but i really don't see why. you're so smart,and...fun...?" she stretches it giving him a visibly forced smile
"No is no mabel. besides i wouldn't be able anyways, the principal wants to talk to me" He says grabbing his stuff on his locker
"What? but you're such a grade A student,you're not in trouble are you?" she asks,he shakes his head
"Unlike you i'm not called there because of trouble,is about a extra credit activity" He explains,she rolls her eyes
"Alright then mr all As. i'll see you later after i make it on the team~" she says going to the gym while dipper went the opposite direction.
"Good luck" Dipper rolls his eyes with a small smile as he went to the principal's office.
"Excuse me mr Hemsworth?" he knocks on the door
"Come in" the Principal calls out,he was a portly man with a bushy beard and eyebrows.
"Ah Dipper pines,i was wondering when you would come by"
"Yes sir,um,may i know why you call me here?" he asks
"oh of course,take a seat" He gestures to the chair in front of him, Dipper nods and sits down.
"You see mr pines. You are simply one of the best students of your year if not the best students on the whole year,your grades are consinstently been As in all your report cards except...gym class but i assume that isn't too important to the carreer you think of following in the fututre" The principal says,dipper nods.
"Well,i called you here Mr Pines to actually ask you a favor" Mr Hemsworth says putting his hands together. Dipper was a bit surprised
"A favor sir?" He asks to be sure he heard right.
"That's right. you see Dipper ,my niece Melissa is from a higher year and well...she's having trouble in some of the classes. And i would like if you could give her some personal classes to help her you know,in return i could give you extra credit" He says
Dipper thinks for a bit "I suppose i could help your niece sir" he said
"Oh thanks a lot Dipper. I'll let melissa know" he says gesturing that he can leave
Dipper nods and leaves the principal's office.
'Melissa? i feel like i heard that name before...but i can't put my finger on it...' He thinks to himself
"You're my "tutor" Pines?" he stops when he hears the voice. he looks up to see 'lisa' chaga,one of the most popular girls in school. she looked at him annoyed
'She's melissa?' he asks himself already regretting this
"So? tongue ate your tongue?" she asks. Dipper clears his throat
"Y-yeah it's me" they then just stare at each other for some time
"so...we should get started,where would be better for you?" He asks awkwardly
SCENECUT
"1 2 3 4. 1 2 3 4. 1 2 3 4" The cheerleader captain repeats over and over again as the new candidates and mabel did their best to keep up. While they auditioned the football team watched. Mostly to just check out the girls though,except for the actual captain.
Mabel despite it being somewhat difficult she remained super excited and energetic through the whole thing.
"That one seem pretty happy to be here" One of the jocks laugh looking at mabel
"Hey she's cute,those braces kinda ruin it" Another one comments
"Shush you two" The captain says
"Ah c'mon mikey. We're just enjoying the view, we know you are as well"
"Would it hurt to keep your comments to after the auditions? only happens a few times a year anyways" The captain says somewhat annoyed as he watched the tryouts closely.
SCENECUT
After a awkward silence they ultimately decided to go to melissa's place. They were at the couch where dipper was going over the formula and the problems while melissa was on her phone.
"So with this formula and the data given you can know what X equals" he says and looks up at her,she looked very uninterested. He sighs a bit and clears his throat to get her attention. she looks at him
"Understand how this works?" he asks trying to smile a bit. Melissa just looks at him for a bit before looking back at her phone,he sighs.
After a few seconds he snatches her phone from her hands. "Hey!" she tries getting it back but he doesn't let it.
"Look melissa-"
"Lisa" she interrupts him
"okay. Lisa,look i understand you probably don't like me and you really don't want to be here when you could be somewhere else doing something you liked-"
"Wow very inspirational. what's your point?" She says the first part full of sarcasm and crosses her arms
"My point is i don't want to be here either. I could be hanging out with my friends-"
"You don't have friends" she interrupts again
"OR doing something else that didn't involve me sitting here trying to teach you math. You don't like me and honestly i don't care about you,i'm here because the principal asked me to help you and i'm getting extra credit. So the faster you get over that and focus on this lesson the faster i can go away and we don't have to talk again" He says to her.
Melissa looks at him and sighs before nodding "Alright,if it gets you away"she reluctantly pays attention since she knew she kinda needed it as well.
SCENECUT
Despite being all sweaty and tired mabel still had a pretty large smile on her face as she was accepted into the cheerleading team. She arrives home and sees dipper on the couch reading a book like usual.
"Hey Dipper!" she practically shouts startling dipper
"Ah! do you have to shout like that?!"
"yep" she smiles sheepishly
"So how did the tryouts go? i assume intense" he says seeing her dripping with sweat.
"Oh yeah,exhausting" She says panting but she still had the wide smile on her face
"And i got in!" she shpouts cheerly
"Good for you" He says before going back to reading.
"At least pretend your happy" she rolls her eyes and sits besides him on the couch
"How was your day?" She asks him
"Tiring. I had to serve as math tutor for Lisa chaga and wasn't pleasant" He says nonchalantly
"You tutored one of the most popular girls in school?" She asks surprised
"Is what i said isn't it? did all the training clog you hearing?" he asks rather annoyed
"Did you get on her good side?" she asks hopeful and dipper laughs
"HA, i'm probably anywhere but on her good side. Was so much more taxing than it should have,look i'm going to our room" he stands up and goes. Mabels sighs a bit

A few days passed,nothing really changed except mabel getting somewhat busier with cheerleading training. Dipper was putting things away at his locker to go home for the day when Melissa went to his locker.
"Pines" She says startling him
"Ah! melis-I mean lisa?what you want here?" He asks
She lifts a paper to his face.
"what's this?"
"Is my math exam" Dipper picks it up to look better and it has a A
"Look,i wanna say thanks." she says
"Alright,you're welcome. Now excuse me" He starts to leave
"Wait" She stops him,he looks rather confused
"I hate to admit but you're a good teacher and i have a chemistry exam-"
"And you want me to tutor you again? " He asks rhetorically
"Look i hate to do this. How about this,help me and i'll pay you pines" she crosses her arms
"Pay me? that seems a bit much and sudden no. A few days ago we agreed we just wanted to stay away from each other" He raises a eyebrow
"Look i just want good grades to pass."
"Fine i'll help you on one condition chaga"
"geeze thanks. what's that?" she asks
"No one knows i'm tutoring you alright.I don't want people flocking me just because i "know" a chaga" he says. That did stump Melissa a bit
"Ah,sure...Trust me i wouldn't want people to know either" She recomposed herself quickly
"Alright,see you later i guess" Dipper says before leaving.
"So he tutored her and they fell in love? sounds too cliche" Gideon says
"Shhh,let's hear the rest" Candy scolds him a bit. he rolls his eyes
At first dipper was reluctant to help melissa more since was clear they disliked each other,but hey apparently he was getting payed so why not withstand her for a few hours.
Or so he thought. As time passed melissa went more and more so Dipper could help her with her study troubles. At least she really did pay him rather well so withstanding her was worth it.
The more it happened the more tolerable Melissa got because she actually tried paying attention,and she was a rather fast learner.
About 2 months pass and Dipper had started to warmup to Melissa and seemed the opposite was also true.
"So by doing this formula with these elements...the answer is 50?" Melissa says racking her brain for the answer
"Correct" Dipper says smiling a bit
"You've made good progress Lisa"
"Thanks dipper. Yeah you're a pretty good teacher"
Dipper looks at his phone "I gotta go home. Good luck on your exam lisa" He says packing his stuff
"Ah before i forget" she stops him
"There'll be a party here at my place friday"
"Oh,well i don't know...i'm not a party guy"He says rather skeptical
"Ah come on,will be fun. A lot of people from school are coming" sge says
"Alright...i'll look into it" He says as he leaves
When it came the party Dipper was kinda regretting it as he awkwardly stood in the corner. He was never one for partied as he was never too sociable.
"Hey" Melissa goes up to him
"Soda?" she offers him a cup
"I guess,thanks" he takes it
"It's pretty awkward for me to talk to like this,but how's the party?" she asks
"Eh,well i guess. I just don't really have friends in this crowd except mabel but she went off to who knows where"
"She seems pretty superactive" she laughs a bit
"Yeah that's mabel all right. How was your exam?"
"Really,that's what you ask during a party" she semi jokes as Dipper raised his hands in mock defense
"Hey i already said partying is not my thing" he shrugs
"Fair,I went well. Got a A+"
"Nice to hear" He smiles a bit
"Well you were a good teacher pines,as much as i hated to admit" Dipper laughs a bit
"From you,that's a compliment" He drinks a bit of his soda
"Hey you may still be a nerd but at least you're a nice nerd" She laughs although dipper can't really tell if she's joking or not
"Yeah you may be the popular kid,but i guess you aren't as intolerable as i thought" He laughs a bit although she can't tell if he's joking or not.
"Wait,are you serious?" Both ask at the same time,then laugh a bit
"Look i'm sorry if me and my brother picked on you or treated you badly. It feels like a asshole move out of nowhere" She rubs the back of her head
"I mean yeah i hated you and i didn't like the popular kids but you're not as bad as you make yourself out to be"
"You could at least try to sugarcoat your words you know" She scowls a bit
"Hey you try being shoved in a locker repeatedly for no reason. Im being honest" He says
"I suppose that's fair,i'll try to be less mean" She says
"That's...appreciated" He takes another sip of his soda
The two spend most the party just talking to each other while mabel being the social butterfly she is ,danced a bit and overall socialized around the party.
Dipper and Melissa chat for some time until they decided to watch the full moon and they went upstairs and after some back and fourth the two looked at each other and without realizing they leaned closer together and she kissed him. After they pulled away and they realized what they did dipper runs off embarassed. After a few days melissa went to talk with dipper again and they started dating.
"So that's how they got together huh? seems pretty cliche" Gideon says
"Is what he told me at least" Mabel shrugs
"Hey now i wonder,Where even us dipper?" Candy asks
SCENECUT
Dipper groans as he wakes up after being knocked out by that large wolf creature grasping his chest in pain. He looks around,he was still on the destroyed gnome village but he couldn't see the little guys nor jeff
"Someone there? jeff-urg" He calls out but his chest hurts
"so..." Dipper freezes at the deep gruff voice,he looks behind him summoning [Act II]
Sitting on a fallen log was a large figure wearing a green suit and top hat with a dollar sign on his chest. it was tossing a coing up and down,it had like knuckle dusters on it's knuckles. it's face was like a leprecahaun with a beartrap steel jaw,it's eyes were like gems.
"Finally awake"
