A Fateful Battle
The girls got a head start early in the morning to make their way to the cave of the dragon pony. Rainbow Dash was once again pulling the travel balloon to reach their destination. The girls were all restless on their way to the cave all worried that they were going to finally confront this new creature. Applejack noticed Twilight was sitting in bit of a slump for reasons she couldn't figure out.
"Hey there sugar cube. Ya look lower than the sunset under the horizon. What's got ya down so much?" The farmer pony asked in concern for her friend.
Twilight pulled out all her empty books with quills and ink and then dropped it in front of her. "All this stuff I brought thinking we would be finding a new creature to study and place in the bestiary to add to the knowledge of ponies of a new discovery." Twilight kicked a book to the side with much disappointment. "But it turns out it was just a big flop. We are just going to find some pony with some kind of magical powers to breathe fire and have super strength. That is all it is. Some pony being magically transformed into some monster." She said waving her forelegs in the air in frustration. "I doubt there is anything natural about him to study. I just wanted to surprise Princess Celestia with this being a mission of discovery and there was a logical answer to her dreams." The unicorn huffed in irritation of their luck.
Applejack chuckled at her friend. "Oh Twi, yer overthinkin' things as usual. Ah'm sure the princess would be proud enough just fer you ta solve this situation. Just think of this as uh new way ta challenge yer skills with friendship with this strange pony we are about ta find." She said trying to lift Twilight's spirits.
"I'm sure Celestia would be extra proud that you would be able to try and befriend such a savage meat-eating scoundrel." Said rarity giving a disgusted look when talking about the pony being able to eat meat.
"Friend giver Twilight! She makes friends with all she comes in contact to!" Pinkie declared into the air.
Twilight sighed finding some comfort in her friends' emotional support. "Yeah, I guess." She said even though she wished she could have made some sort of scientific discovery to make when they could find the dragon pony.
"But why would a pony use magic to eat meat?" Spike asked curiously. "even with magic, wouldn't that still make him sick?"
Twilight beamed with a sudden excitement when hearing this question. She quickly started to get all the books, quills, ink, and papers scattered across the basket of the balloon trying to reorganize them again. "That's right! There has to be a scientific explanation to his dieting system to become compatible with the nutrients meat would give carnivores! Also, he would have to develop an immunity system from the bacteria meat would also give out to herbivores! All that protein from the meat would have some affect to his physique and his stomach would have gone through some evolutionary changes to adapt to consuming flesh!" Twilight continued to rant on more to herself about the possible biological changes a pony would have to go through in order to change from an herbivore diet to one of a carnivore.
The others just sat back and watched her rant more about the possible science of this dragon pony. Pinkie was rubbing her head trying to follow what Twilight was talking about. "Ooh, so many big words. What do they all mean?" asked Pinkie Pie feeling Twilight was speaking in a different language.
"Just let her be girls. Let her have this moment if this makes her happy." Said Applejack even though all this science lingo didn't make a lick of sense to her.
"Girls, I think we're here!" Rainbow Dash called back. Twilight just finished reorganizing her stuff back into her bag before they all looked out to see where they were coming to.
The side of a cliff and a small hole of a cave on the face of the cliff. It was in the mid-height position from the top edge of the cliff to the bottom of the ground below. The cliff was over fifty feet high. It was a flat wall of smooth rock not even a mountain goat could climb. The cave was strategically made to keep intruders out from climb up or down without being noticed.
"Rainbow Dash, fly around behind the cliff. We don't want to give any suspicion that we are heading towards the cave if they spotted us already." Said Twilight feeling this was the best course of action.
"Aye, Aye ma'am." Rainbow Dash said in her rising of ego. She always felt the need to act or say something cool when on a mission of any kind. Rainbow Dash moved the balloon to take a detour around and away from the cliff.
They travelled far behind the cliff to find somewhere to land and continued to blaze a path in the direction of the cliff. None of them had ever been this far to the uncharted regions of the west of Equestria. It was slightly unnerving to be in a place where none had ventured to, even if it was in their own land.
"So… what's the plan?" Rainbow Dash asked to break the silence. Mostly due to it was driving her crazy and it was causing her courage to falter.
"Well since we are so high up, we can make a trap using vines to create a net. When we see the dragon stallion coming, we can wait for the right moment to drop the net on him and give us time to get down and hold him down. That is where Fluttershy can use her stare to calm him down so we can talk to him. Of course, this is if we can't cause the cave in on the hole." Said Twilight making a back-up plan if the first one didn't go as well. The cave entrance was above the ground so that would make it harder to trap them in the cave with rocks. "For the first plan, we can find a large hard boulder and tie it to a vine. Then find a way to launch it out so it can swing back and slam into the cave entrance and shut them in."
"N' the princess' guards are already on their way so we won't have ta wait that long." Applejack said feeling more relieved with that knowledge as well as the others.
"Exactly." Twilight confirmed. "Now let's get to work girls" She said as they all started searching around for the materials, they could use to make what they needed.
Later in the morning, Dragonbond was gliding in as he planned. Being able to catch the cross breeze as it came by and lift high up into the air again. He could see the cave entrance on the cliffside. He was relieved to almost be home with his prized treasures.
The mane six were able to make everything they needed before he was returning. They were both amazed and puzzled to see him gliding in with some sort of object holding his wings out and something shiny on his back. But the thing that was both puzzling and surprising was the length of his wingspan. It was far longer than a normal Pegasi's. Almost the size of the princess's wingspan and a lot thicker.
Rainbow Dash could not help but admire his wingspan, but she was wondering why he had some kind of brace on it as if he was injured. The others did notice his leg was in some improvised cast. He was indeed a natural shade of green to make him hard to see if he flew low under the skyline of the trees. It would make sense how he would have somehow infiltrated through their lands undetected.
Dragonbond glided over to the cave. Just as he was about to make his landing, he had his wings make a few powerful beats to break out of the wooden glider structure. His leg was feeling a lot better to fly with. He came through the cave entrance as his brother awoke from hearing him flap into the cave.
"Good news Claw, I am that much closer to completing my own hoard of treasure. Just need to find a large pile of gold and we find a boat big enough to carry it all in." Dragonbond said shaking his scaly feathers out.
Claw was prepared to scold the hell out of his brother for when he came back. But now hearing that he found a rare treasure, he was a lot less likely to chew out his brother. "Well I guess that is good news. I can't wait to leave this accursed land."
Dragonbond came and dropped the bundle of treasure he had found. The enchanted weapons and the fused gem that Dragonbond had found. It had the fusion of an emerald and sapphire. This widened Claw's eyes in shock. "Seriously, A legendary dragon died here in this land?!"
"It was deep in the tribe of cyclopes. A very dangerous place to be in." Dragonbond said using his tail to wipe and clean the fused gem with.
"Your father will be more than proud to hear that you have discovered another gem." Claw said amazed seeing another fused gem with his own eyes.
"They should be back home on our island." Dragonbond said, but then he heard something being launched from a wooden contraption. It confused him since it sounded like it was launched from on top of the cliff. Why something would launch something from the cliff top in the middle of nowhere was baffling.
"Brother!" Exclaimed Claw when he saw a large boulder swinging down right into the hole of the cave.
From above, the mane six cheered thinking they successfully trapped the dragon brothers in their own cave. Fluttershy still showed concern for them. "Oh dear, I hope we didn't harm them with that." She said staring over the cliff's edge. She could see where the boulder had crashed to cause a small cave in.
"Don't worry, I did all the calculations to make sure the swinging trajectory would guide the boulder right into the right weak point of the cave that would only cause a mild cave in in the front. They should be safe from harm." Twilight reassured her timid friend.
A splat on the floor and a spark of fire created a small flame to ignite the cave. Dragonbond had used some of his flammable saliva to make a small puddle of fire for them to see inside the cave. "How did any local knew we were here?" Asked Claw more annoyed than angry.
Dragonbond inspected the cave in where the boulder had it. "Since it sounds like it was just one boulder, they meant to trap us inside." He presumed.
"How do you know that?" Claw wondered feeling there would be more to come.
"If they wanted us dead, they would have used bigger and more boulders to kill us inside this cave by now." Said Dragonbond feeling that was the most probable reason. "Either way, they are in for quite a surprise. The treasure is compromised, we can't take it all with us. But we can't let them have the dragon gem. We'll have to leave the gems behind. You take the weapons and gem and I'll cover your escape to find a new cave." Dragonbond said.
"Are you sure about this?" Claw asked concerned for his brother and not sure how many ponies might be waiting for them outside.
"They are magical horses, what real damage can they cause?" Said Dragonbond in his usual cocky tone.
Claw sighed knowing that could only lead him to trouble. "Just be careful." He warned.
Dragonbond gave a knowing smirk at his brother. "Since when have I ever done that?"
Above, the mane six were having a personal party with cupcakes provided by Pinkie Pie. "I told ya we could handle this beast. Nothing to it." Rainbow Dash said proudly.
"Guess the teamwork of friendship came through once again." Applejack said after as she chewed on a cupcake.
"I am glad we were able to contain them as well, but do you have to speak when eating, dear?" Rarity complained as she used her magic to take a napkin to wipe Applejack's face.
"Consarn it Rarity, can't ah eat the way ah want without ya fussing about my eatin' habits!?" Applejack complained trying to swat the assaulting napkin away from her face.
"Really darling, I just don't want you to spit all over every pony when you speak. Mostly me, now stop thrashing! You are just like opal when taking a bath." Rarity scolded ever determined to clean her friend.
Fluttershy's ears perked up as something felt strange. "Um, does any pony feel that?" She asked confused.
The others became confused as well to what she was talking about. "What do you mean?" Twilight asked puzzled to what the yellow pegasus was talking about.
Pinkie Pie's body began to shake uncontrollably. "U-u-u-h o-o-o-oh. M-y-y-y-y-y Pi-i-i-nky-y-y-y Pi-i-i-ie Se-e-e-e-nse." She said trying to speak during her tremble.
"Wait, that means something is about to happen that has never happened before." Twilight said clearly remembering that infuriating day.
"But what could that mean?" Applejack asked.
Then they all began to feel a tremble in the ground. "Please tell me that is your Pinkie Pie sense." Rainbow Dash asked as Pinkie continued to tremble.
Right after, a hole from the side of the cliff broke open. Apparently, the green pegasus had somehow burrowed out of the hard stone of the cliff to free himself and the dragon.
"Wha… How did he do that?!" Rainbow Dash asked in bewilderment.
Pinkie Pie's shaking then stopped. "Wowie, I guess that was the thing that has never happened before."
Dragonbond and Claw saw an airship coming from the east. "Go brother, I'll keep them busy!" He ordered his brother. Claw new he couldn't let them get to the gem, he had to trust his brother with this. He nodded and flew south from the ponies and the airship.
"Think you can get away, I got him!" Rainbow Dash said flying off to chase the dragon.
"Rainbow Dash, wait!" Twilight tried to stop her.
It was too late. She was already in pursuit but was intercepted by the green pegasus flying in her path and spinning into a somersault and bringing his hind hoof down upon her head. The force and impact made a small shockwave and sent the blue pegasus shooting straight to the ground like an arrow. The trees were the only thing that broke her fall to save her life.
"Rainbow Dash!" the girls shouted in shock and horror.
Fluttershy immediately flew down to the downed pegasus. She found her body halfway stuck in the ground. "Rainbow! I'll get you out!" Fluttershy shouted in panic before starting to yank her up by Rainbow Dash's hindlegs.
Dragonbond flew above them all. "If you are smart, you will back off. This doesn't concern you." He warned them. He had no intention of fighting mares, but if they pushed him enough, he would not discriminate against them as opponents.
"Take em down Twi." Applejack said.
Instead of shooting throwing the net, Twilight used her magic to teleport it over the dragon stallion and having it drop on him. Dragonbond was caught off guard by this as he became tangled in the netting. He fell to the ground as the rest of the mane six teleported down by Twilight's magic. They all came down around him grabbing vines from the net and pulled them down to restrain the dragon pony.
Fluttershy managed to pull Rainbow Dash from the ground. The reckless pegasus had her eyes spinning from the dizzy spell she was in. 'Di-did I get him?" Rainbow Dash asked wondering what had happened.
Fluttershy shook her head. "Um, not exactly, but the others were able to tie him down." She told her friend.
Rainbow Dash shook her head to shake off the dizziness. "Let me at that freak! I'll rip him a new one!" Rainbow Dash said. She flew over to help the others hold him down.
"Fluttershy, use the stare, hurry!" Said Twilight with urgency in her tone. She could feel the strength the green pegasus had as he struggled to break free.
"I'm sorry about this, but you leave us no choice." Fluttershy said in honesty. She didn't want to resort to this, but they had to restrain him after what he did to Rainbow Dash.
Dragonbond struggled as much as he could, but the netting tangled him so much he couldn't move as much. He saw the airship starting to land nearby as pegasus guards flew towards them. Now this yellow pegasus was trying to use some hypnotic stare on him. This was starting to anger the dragon stallion. Memories flooded back in his mind from when the dragon hunting ponies restrained his father down when he was seven years old.
Being played with a dirty trick to use magic hit a nerve in him. Growling with a growing fury of rage, he bared his teeth as his savage instincts began to take hold of him.
Fluttershy was starting to see something frightening in his eyes. It felt like it was countering her own stare. It looked feral and a deep primal instinct of rage she had never seen before. It screamed vengeance and survival to unleash something dark and monstrous. Fluttershy's own stare began to falter under his glare when the red iris of his eyes began to glow like flames.
"W-wait, what's he doing?" asked Rainbow Dash confused and worried when she heard the dragon stallion begin to growl like a savage beast. "Why isn't the stare working?"
Twilight saw not steam, but dark smoke blow from his nostrils. The vines to the netting began to strain and tighten when his wings started rising. "Hold him tighter! We can't let him…" All the netting and vine ropes that held him down snapped and the girls stumbled and tripped backwards when the enraged stallion broke loose.
Standing with limbs stretched apart, wings opened wide to their full length, and head raised high, Dragonbond let out the loud mighty roar of a dragon that was deep and shook the air around him. Flames spewed from his mouth into the air adding to the roar. The girls shrunk back cringing at the sight. Fluttershy had already ran as fast and as far as she could away from the terrifying fire breathing pegasus.
The Pegasus guard flew in with more nets of their own. "Remember, don't harm him, just restrain him as the princess had ordered!" The commander called to the rest of his flying battalion. The all acknowledged his orders and held their much stronger nets and ropes.
Dragonbond heard them coming and blew a wide burst of a flame thrower at them. Ponies caught in the flames fell from the sky screaming from the heat and their heated metal armor they wore. When the flames turned to thick smoke in the air, Dragonbond flew out catching the rest by surprise. He punched and kicked with every hoof making contact mostly around the chest area of each pegasus. Their armor dented under each strike and sent pegasi either falling to the ground or shooting across the air and to the ground. He grabbed others in close combat to make strikes that dislocated and broke limbs. Dragonbond didn't just hit or kick, he used skilled grappling techniques on the pegasi to make it hard for others to rush him when one of their own was in the way.
Dragonbond moved as if possessed while in the air with his advanced skill with aero combat. As he would lunge forward, his wings flapped in complex movements to suddenly change his direction or send him flipping or twirling in another direction to move in his opponent's open side to make a strike in an exposed area of the body.
What kept catching them all off guard was his tail as if it fought with a will of its own. When one would assume he had a clear opening from behind Dragonbond, the tail would lash out to either strike with a counter or reach out and grab the pegasus to either toss them away, into another pegasus, or use them as a shield
Pegasi were dropping like flies around him and the strategy needed to change. A pegasus that was away from the battle called out to the rest of the guard. "Call the unicorn guard! Use your magic to restrain that thing!" the pegasus ordered. He didn't bother to call the stallion by the proper pronoun. He only saw it as a monster now.
The unicorn scrambled to form their positions around the dragon pony. Once he was clear from any more pegasi, "All fire!" the unicorn commander ordered.
Beams of magic shot up at Dragonbond in an attempt to wrap him in binding magic. The commander was shock at what he saw next. "That's… That's impossible!" He said seeing the magic beams making contact, but they were not forming any binds on him. The ends of the beams only dissipated into a magic smoke before vanishing off from his body. What they could not predict was This stallion was completely immune to magic.
This time the earth pony guard came in with their ropes to assist the unicorn with. They controlled the ropes with their magic to accurately lasso the dragon pony to pull him down. "We have him now!" They said full of hope. But that hope was quickly broken.
Dragonbond landed on the ground to have more leverage in his next attacks. As they held tightly to the ropes his strength was more than they anticipated. Dragonbond had his limbs stretched out before yanking them all in with all the force he could use to curl up and make the ponies stumble. That was his chance to perform a series of acrobatic flips and spins. Ponies that held on tight to the ropes were reeled in towards Dragonbond. When the ropes loosened on him from the lack of restraint from the ponies, he slipped out and had his tail wrap around the ropes with a tight grip. Using the ropes as whips he sent the ponies still holding on crashing into others
Pony forces were being depleted. Dragonbond's next target was the airship. Once that was taken care of, that would give him and his brother the chance to make their getaway with what was left of their treasure.
Dragonbond flew up straight at the airship. Ponies on board fired nets and bolas at the incoming stallion. Dragonbond's sight helped him see the incoming projectiles to evade them before they got close. Dragonbond sighed at the design of the ship. They still used balloons to keep their craft afloat. All it took was a well-aimed fireball flying straight into the balloon and the ship was staring to go down. The fireball was stronger than it looked as it caused a big powerful blast into the balloon to make a hole.
Seeing the job was done, Dragonbond retreated to fly after his brother.
The girls that hid in the woods were horrified from sight of the battle. One stallion took down an entire regiment of Celestia's guard on his own. Worse was that their magic had no effect on him. It simple dissipated off of him. Just what kind of creature he was, Twilight had absolutely no idea.
Rainbow Dash however, did not want to give up so easily. "I'll follow him!" She said in determination.
"Rainbow no!" Twilight tried to stop her, but the Pegasus dashed off from the ground took to the skies. Now they were stuck with a downed air ship and a regiment of injured and rattled pony guards. "Darn it Rainbow Dash. Why are you so reckless?"
"Well what do we do now?" Asked Applejack having no clue what they could do to help Rainbow Dash or even follow her.
"Well a lot of these poor guards need help after that fight." Rarity pointed out seeing the sight of injured ponies on the ground.
Twilight thought quickly of a plan. "I can cast a spell on myself to give my temporary wings. Fluttershy and I can go after Rainbow Dash while the rest of you see what you can do here." Explained Twilight of her plan of action. "Spike, send a letter to the princess about what happened. They'll need to send medical ponies to help around here and another airship to bring them back."
"M-me? Why me?" Fluttershy asked in shock seeing very little she could do to help.
"Please Fluttershy. Rainbow is going to get hurt. We just need to follow her and bring her back before that happens." Twilight begged her friend. "We're not going to try and fight the dragon stallion; we are just trying to get Rainbow Dash back." She reassured.
Fluttershy trembled looking at the situation, but she sighed knowing she couldn't abandon her first friend since flight camp. "O-okay. I'll try." She agreed.
"Twi, are ya sure yall can handle this?" Said Applejack in concern for them heading into danger on their own.
"We don't have much choice. Rainbow Dash will need help and we are all that is left." Twilight said seeing no other solution. Also, the Celestial guard would also need help to tend to the wounded.
Rarity sighed as she couldn't disagree with that plan. "Just be safe, darling." She told the two.
Twilight nodded before casting her spell to give herself temporary wings. It took a while, but eventually she got her wings. She just needed to fly low from the sun to not burn her new wings. Fluttershy and Twilight then took off to the skies in the direction Rainbow Dash flew after the dragon brothers.
"Don't forget to write!" Pinkie Pie hollered at the flying ponies.
Applejack slapped her own forehead. "Let's just help these ponies." She said leading her friends to tend to the wounded.
Dragonbond was now far from the battle sight to no longer see the smoke of the downed airship. He was sure he was in the clear. It was a worthy battle despite not taking a life. He needed to create a distraction creating as many wounded ponies as possible for the first assailants from pursuing them.
Rainbow Dash had flown high in the clouds to look down at the dragon stallion as he flew low near the trees. She could barely make him out by the red on his mane and tail. He wasn't going as fast, so that made it easy for her to catch up. She waited until he was just crossing over into the sea where he was more visible over the water. "Alright dragon punk, here comes the thunder." Said Rainbow Dash before making into a dive in a crash course with the dragon stallion.
Dragonbond made a steady course, but at the last second, he heard the sound of something falling straight towards him from behind him in the sky. Dragonbond then made a downward somersault to avoid the attacker.
Rainbow Dash yelped as she almost crashed into the water by pulling up just in time. She then turned to face the dragon stallion.
Dragonbond growled in irritation of this pony continuing to pursue him. He gave her credit for being this determined, but he wasn't going to indulge her when she was now the only thing in his way from reaching his brother. Also, she was part of the reason why he had to abandon his stash of gems in that cave.
"You have guts, but I am not in the mood for your persistence. Get out of my way and I won't be forced to splatter your guts as fish food." Dragonbond threatened the rainbow pegasus.
That was a first for Rainbow Dash to receive such a threat. It was usually the cliché comment of destroying her or crushing her. Never had it been something that gruesome. She composed herself. "You took a cheap shot at me and hurt a lot of ponies! I'm not about to let you get away with that!" She said pounding her hooves together.
Dragonbond inwardly growled as his patience was wearing thin. "You do not want this fight pony. Turn back and never pursue my brother and I again." He warned.
"Bring it dragon punk!" She challenged getting into her aerial battle stance.
Dragonbond snarled. "Don't say I didn't give you the chance to spare your life. Since it is just you, I will hold back in this fight to make it an honorable and fair fight." He said as he felt it was an unfair advantage for him to fight her with his full strength. He knew ponies were not very skilled in the art of combat. This one, he thought would be no different. Not even worthy for him to use full strength or even take seriously. Dragonbond would refrain from using his tail, teeth, or flames to fight the lone pegasus.
"Are you trying to call me weak?! I'll pound your face inside out when I'm done with you!" Rainbow Dash shouted as her pride was offended by the handicap she was given. The reigns were coming off and Rainbow Dash was not going to hold back to prove she wasn't as weak as he expected her to be.
They faced off each other as a storm cloud rumbled with thunder and lightning in the distance. Then they charged in at each other making the first strike as they clashed hooves with the first punch and pushing each other back. They flew passed each other trying to take a shot only to be blocked as they struck again and again when taking passing strikes into one another making loud clashing sounds of their hooves striking each other.
Dragonbond and Rainbow Dash changed tactics by flying close to the other to try and fight with punching and kicking. Dragonbond had years of combat training to read the movements of the muscles and predict an oncoming attack for him to block. But Rainbow Dash was a black belt herself in pony karate. She was capable of defending herself just as well.
Twilight and Fluttershy were not to far from the shore. They saw the sea from where they flew. What they also saw were two dots flying about flying side by side and then away to make passes by each other. They could also hear some distant sounds of small pops. They grew fearful that Rainbow Dash had engaged with the dragon stallion. Knowing they had no chance in the fight and would only get in the way, they flew to the beach to spectate and wait as they tried to think of what to do.
By coming closer to the fight from the beach, the clashing sounds became louder making Fluttershy cringe in fear and hide behind Twilight. "W-w-what are we going to do?" Fluttershy asked sounding as if she were about to cry.
Twilight tried to think as she knew her magic would have no physical affect on the dragon stallion after seeing the squad of unicorn guard unable to stop him in the slightest. There wasn't anything she could use either to assist Rainbow Dash in the fight since she and her foe were far from land to use anything at their disposal. Also, they would be seen coming with nowhere to hide. "All we can do is wait and hope Dash can get out of this" Said Twilight hanging on a thread of hope.
Dragonbond and Rainbow Dash were battling ever closer to the storm that was heading in their flightpath of combat. Heavy rain all around and the flashes of lighting lit the sky. Rainbow Dash aimed to make a move as she took a burst of speed to fly high in the sky.
Twilight and Fluttershy grew even more worried when they vanished into the storm. They thought it would be clear to fly closer to try and see if they can be nearer to give any aid if needed. Fluttershy was becoming increasingly nervous the closer they got to the storm when lightning cracked the sky. Fluttershy dropped from the air as he wings closed shut from the fear that shot through her. Luckily Twilight was able to catch her in time.
Dragonbond suspected she was retreating from the fight. Usually he would pursue, but this could be his chance to rendezvous with his brother. Not bothering to follow his opponent, he took this chance to leave.
Rainbow Dash stopped when she was high enough. She saw the dragon stallion flying away. Thinking he was lost and trying to find her, she took this opportunity to dive towards him. She began her process to enter a sonic Rainboom. Gaining enough speed, she preformed her stunt of a sonic rainboom and gained her extra set of speed to catch the dragon stallion by surprise. She flew into him with a kick to knock him off balance. She turned around to kick him over and again repeating the combo.
Dragonbond realized this pony was more than capable in a fight with him. Now all bets were off as his anger took over his mind. With her next pass, he backed off the would be strike and bit onto her striking hindleg. Sinking his teeth in deep, he clenched down to have a vice like hold and swung her around.
Rainbow Dash shrieked in pain as she felt the agonizing sensation run up her leg until she was thrown from him. Rainbow Dash looked down to see her hind leg bleeding freely with the rain making it flow and drip off her leg. She then looked to the dragon stallion with shocked and fearful eyes. His mouth was dripping with her blood as he growled loud enough for her to hear through the rain thunder. Worse was his glowing red eyes piercing the stormy sky and his mouth starting to glow from inside. She could only assume that he was ready to burn her to a crisp. "H-hey wait! You said you wouldn't!" She said trying to reason with the raging dragon stallion.
Dragonbond then let out a mighty roar to rival the boom of the thunder. He then saw the rainbow pegasus flee from him. He immediately gave chase to her and blowing a stream of fire in her direction. The rain did little to slow it down as it roared at her and vaporizing the rain drops in its path.
Twilight and Fluttershy had heard the frightening roar as well as seeing the glowing light of the flame within the storm. Fluttershy once again shut her wings in fear. Twilight was ready for her this time to catch her before she could fall. "Come on Fluttershy, we need to go in there. Rainbow Dash is in trouble." She urged her frightened friend.
"B-b-b-b-but its d-d-dangerous in th-th-there. C-c-can't she j-just fly t-towards us?" The yellow pegasus stuttered as the free gripped her heart.
Twilight held Fluttershy's face to make her stare straight into her eyes. "Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash will die if we don't help her." Twilight didn't want to be so straight forward with Fluttershy about the worst possible outcome, but this was urgent and she needed Fluttershy to see that.
Fluttershy tried to compose herself. "Y-your right. She needs us." She said as she took a deep breath.
"Stay close." Twilight said so they would not be separated in the storm. Twilight hoped that the rain would not affect her magical wings. They both ventured in the storm to search for their friend to aid in her time of need. They just hoped they could make it in time.
Rainbow Dash looked back as her eyes shrunk seeing the raging flames heading straight for her. She evaded just in time. Her leg was stinging and becoming numb in the frigid temperatures of the storm. She started flying to the side and any direction she could to avoid the flames blowing right for her to incinerate her along with the rain.
Rainbow Dash now knew that this was too much for her to handle. She cursed herself for heading off alone. She cursed her pride that got her into this fight. Why didn't she just stay with her friends when numbers counted. Why did she have to challenge this creature after she saw him take out an entire regiment on his own; that included an airship. Now she wished, begged, and prayed to whatever that could hear her to help her make it out of this alive.
She was completely on the run in the air with no way to fight back or escape. The dragon stallion was hot on her tail figuratively and literally. Her leg was now numb and throbbing. She could barely feel the warmth of her blood running down her leg. All she could do is try to head in a straight line for shore and out of the storm.
Dragonbond flew up higher as he planned for a dive. His eyes turned to slits and glowed. This allowed him to locate her heat signature through the storm. He flew to the height he needed before taking a dive.
Rainbow Dash looked behind her to see he was gone. For a moment, she thought he gave up trying to catch her. She assumed she was too fast and evasive for him to reach. She took a breath of relief and relaxed her wings and her breath.
In a moment of time slowing down, a lightning bolt struck behind her and in the rain and the clouds above her, the shadow figure of the dragon stallion was seen for a brief moment until Dragonbond cut through the density of the storm and rammed into Rainbow Dash.
The wind was knocked out of her and the dragon stallion was pressing against her back and on her wings. She could not break through the force of his dive against her. The wind against her in the descent was too great. When the waves of the sea could be seen, the dragon stallion broke away leaving the rainbow pegasus to fall crashing and skipping against the waves of the stormy sea before splashing to a halt into the water.
Rainbow Dash could now feel the salt water burning the open wounds of her leg. She swam as much as she could to the surface and to break for air. It was an intense struggle for her to stay above the water with the large waves all around her. She could now notice the sharp pain in her wings to know that they were broken in the crash. She was stuck in the freezing water.
"Help! Some pony help me!" She cried out before a wave dragged her down. She swam back up to cry for help. She was too much in a panic to realize that the crashing of the waves, the pouring rain, and the blasts of thunder drowned out her cries.
Dragonbond looked down at her from the air. He saw her struggling to live, but this was the way of a fight in his clan. He gave her the choice to flee and live, but she chose to fight him despite threatening to kill her. She chose her fate.
Rainbow Dash was able to see his figure in the light of the lightning. He turned to leave and out of desperation, she reached out to him with a hoof. "Please, help me! I don't want to die!" She cried.
Dragonbond sighed hearing her cries. But this was the way and the law of nature to leave her to her fate.
"Help me, please! Save me!" Her cries started to echo. "Don't leave me to die! Please don't leave me!" She cried out. Her cries rang out with despair, sadness, helplessness, and fear.
He hesitated as memories of his past came back. He remembered himself trapped in the wall as a foal when the magma was flowing closer to him. His memories of him crying out to his father with the mare's cries calling out to him to save her just as he did when crying out to his father to save him. Dragonbond growled as he was pushing the memories from his mind. This was the way. This was how it had to happen. "Damn it." He cursed.
Rainbow Dash then felt her limbs fail her and began to sink in the cold dark depths of the water. Twilight and Fluttershy were still trying to look for their friend. There was no more trace of the glowing fires or the sounds of the roars from the dragon stallion. Their hearts began so to sink with the dreading thought that their friend may have already fallen in battle. They tried to shove that dark thought from their mind, but it kept pushing its way back in with every minute that passed when they couldn't find her or didn't answer when they called out to her.
Rainbow Dash's lungs burned with the lack of air. the stinging of her open wounds began to lessen as the rest of her senses starting to fade. This was the end. Even under the dark waters, tears came from her eyes as there was so many things that came to mind, she had left undone. Scootaloo would be alone without some pony to look up to like a sister. Her parents that she has never seen for a long time filled her heart with great loss and regret. How long has it been since she had told them that she sincerely loved them? Her vision started to fade, but not before a shadow could bee seen in the flash of lightning. Some pony with wings diving for her. That was the last thing she saw before darkness took her.
