The house was complete. James and I even got the best possibilities. All that was left was to check what day we would all three go home. It was about four o clock when Light called.
He was going on about how this craziness was only good distraction for him because his own team was suspecting him. I held my judgment at our situation being just a good way to distract him but in a way I still was surprised he liked helping us. This made our knowledge all the more tragic and twisted. This made it clear that it was the death note that caused the corruption.
I told him of the progress and how there was a third member once. He could put it all together easily. "So your third was the one with her own kira like power" he said I did not confirm it and just gave an evasive answer about her being how Misa became friends with us. This helped him understand some of why we couldn't stay in this world we had to meddle into things. He didn't seem to know she was meddling on Mello's side though or his comment about Sayu wanting Light to forgive her kidnapper would have not happened.
Light then gave us a place to look for the next eclipse. This is exactly what we needed. The other thing was to find our third member. Using Light's complaints I was able to tell where Mello was at least. The question was if Ace was there or hidden like a weapon that only he knew the location of. I then looked at James.
"We need to get to New York" I said
"What makes you think Ace won't come to Japan when Mello does?" James asked looking at me as if he didn't want to go to New York. I took a deep breath about to say something then I stopped because he had a good point. Then I remembered how Japan was where he was going to die. Knowing Ace, she would have him not go just to avoid that fate. "Because knowing Ace as well as we do, her love for Mello will make her do the utmost to make sure he never dies by that same method which means if she has to alter it so he never goes there" I replied looking at him showing sadness.
"She'd risk creating a time space dimension paradox" replied James making me reminded of our barely there ripple effect while hers was where she made everything happen just like a stage hand and director in one.
"We have to go to New York and make sure Mello follows his normal routine and then we get Ace back with us" I said starting to look for my suitcase. It was time to see her face to face again. It was also time to start telling her about the consequences of her actions. She couldn't keep leaving big ripples and make it impossible for him to die because death had to come for him anyway. It was also possible that someone else would just die in his place.
I didn't want to think of the other effect that Light's downfall might have been because of Mello's death and as much as I liked the guy, his Kira mind set was corrupting him and not exactly good for the world. There was reasons for Japan's system of court to be like it is. The fact was stealing could not be helped if they had no other choice. It was impossible to hunt in Japan as there was almost no guns, money was scarce, and it was almost impossible to get food from a dumpster as Japanese were so busy emptying the trash cans. The murder was more likely by black mail or set up than clean cut or crimes of passion.
James nodded knowing most of what was going on in my head but not saying a word. We were going to New York. I will not know what will be the effect other than Mello and Ace seeing us again. We had to take that risk though to prevent disaster.
