I'm uploading this chapter thru mobile, so I apologize if the format comes out weird. I'll fix it once I get my laptop back. But if the format is alright then I won't. I'll post the next chapter in a week or two.
"When will you be allowed to return to the precinct?" Kat asked Cragen as they walked on a sidewalk in the upper east of Manhattan. "Mom tells me that Fin is getting irritated with the guy in command at the moment."
"Hopefully soon," Cragen chuckled. "It won't be long before I get the call to go back."
"Are things going to change?" the teenager asked curiously, slightly tripping at Riddler's pull on the leash.
"They might keep a watchful on the precinct for a while," Cragen frowned. "I just want to get back to work. I miss putting bad guys in jail."
They walked in silence for a few minutes before Cragen broke the silence. "Have you seen Porter?"
Kat's nose scrunched at the mention of the agent. "He took my mom and I for lunch the other day." She rolled her eyes at the warning look that the older man was giving her. "I was on my best behavior. I didn't even do one sarcastic comment."
"That's a big step for you," Cragen chuckled lightly. They stopped at the corner of the street as the traffic light light turned red. "But you still hold a grudge against him.
"He broke my mom's heart. Of course I would hold a grudge against him," Kat frowned, pressing the pedestrian crossing button. "I saw the pain in her eyes when she came home and how red they were from crying."
"That was years ago," Cragen said, placing a hand on her shoulders. "From what I seen, Porter has changed. He seems more considerate about other people's feelings than the last time we all saw him."
Kat let out a heavy sigh as they crossed the street when the traffic light went green. "It just that the resentment that I hold for Porter is the same that I hold for Elliot."
Cragen turned to look at the teenager in surprised.
"When Elliot left, it broke my mother's heart too," Kat explained, while holding Riddler's leash. "But I think what hurt my mother the most is that he left without much of a goodbye. They have been partners for such a long time that it's almost like a punch to the gut."
"Does your mother think about Elliot?"
The teen frowned as they passed a coffee shop. "I don't think so. She hasn't mentioned his name in a long time. I guessed she has accepted that he will never try to contact any of us again."
"Do you still miss him?"
Kat shrugged. "At times but the world does move along. None of them have made any type of contact, so why should I keep trying? There's no point. It is what it is."
Cragen wrapped his arm around the teen's shoulder.
"I just wished he would have just said goodbye to her," Kat mumbled, tightening her gripped on Riddler's leash. "After everything they been thru...she at least deserved a proper goodbye from him."
Cragen pulled her tighter to his side, giving her a comforting side hug. "Maybe he will one day."
"We can only hope."
Rachel yawned, glancing down at her watch. She needed two more hours for her shift to end. It had been a tedious day at work.
The redhead was getting impatient with he friends lately. Eddie wasn't his usual self anymore. He hasn't been partying like before. Hell, he wasn't even trying to get more customers for their supplies.
She had been trying to figure out what was wrong with him. Every time she brought it up, he would avoid the question or simply pretend he didn't hear it.
Madison let out an irritated sighed, remembering their last conversation. Eddie had warned her to stay away from their young friend. He had told her that he had followed her home one day and was happily enjoying life.
Of course Madison was happy for her young friend, but that didn't mean that the teen had to stop hanging out with them. Plus, she needed another supplier and more clients.
She had given Kat enough time to think about it. Madison had thought of contacting her the day of the party. But she decided against it, and let the teen have a few more days to think about the proposition.
Nodding to herself, Madison had finally made a decision. She was going to visit her friend one more time and see what decision has she made.
"Something on your mind, mom?" Kat asked her mother upon seeing the older woman's expression. "You have the 'deep thought' face on."
"I'm fine," Liv forced a smile on her face. "Just have a lot on my mind."
Kat hummed and glanced down at her phone when she felt it vibrate again. She read the text message that Mark sent her and let out a giggle. She quickly sent back a reply just as Joe sent her another text.
Olivia flipped over the channels as her daughter continued to text. She was glad for a quiet night after a few days of been hectic. Even Porter seemed more relaxed that morning when they went out for some coffee before her shift started.
She was flipping through the channels when she decided to leave it on a random channel. Olivia glanced over at Riddler and noticed that the dog was still asleep on her armchair. She shook her head and turned her attention back to the tv. She was about to suggest a movie when the next commercial caught her attention.
Her eyes widen when it she figured it was a condom commercial. She glanced at her daughter and the smile on her face as she continued to text. She had forgotten to give the teen another talk about boys now that she had started to date Mark. She was trying to find a way to tell her daughter when she saw the couple on the tv kissing.
"Don't have sex!" Olivia blurted out before she could stop herself.
Kat almost dropped her phone at her mother's sudden outburst. She looked up confused and stared at her mother as if she lost her mind. "What? What are you talking about?"
"Sex," Olivia blinked. "Don't do it."
Kat keep staring at her mother in confusion until she heard giggling on the tv. She glanced over at it and noticed the condom commercial that was on.
"Oh," the teen blushed and cleared her throat. She turned to look at her mother again and grinned. "You don't want to be called grandma anytime soon?"
The detective let out a choking sound.
"Mom, relax. I'm not having sex with Mark," Kat chuckled. "It's not happening anytime soon. I'm not ready and he's not pressuring me into anything. So let's skip the whole sex talk again and move on."
"I'm overthinking this aren't I?" Olivia sighed, rubbing the side of her head. She was glad that the commercial was finally over.
Kat scooted next to her mother and laid her head on Olivia's shoulder. "A bit."
"I'm sorry," Olivia wrapped her arm around her daughter. "I know that you are getting older but I want-"
"I know," Kat interrupted her mother. "But you don't need to worry. You won't be having a grandchild any time soon."
Olivia chuckled."I'm still young to be a grandmother."
"But I see white strands of hair already," Kat smirked before letting out a whine when her mother ruffled her hair. She huffed as she tried to fix her hair.
The detective let out a short laugh and pulled her daughter closer. Kat smiled at her and they both turned to continue to watch the tv.
