"Okay, you're going to be facing your worst fears, Tris. Most people have ten to fifteen really bad ones. You have to calm yourself. Slow your heart rate and your breathing and deal with what's in front of you. Be brave Tris." Four says.
Tris doesn't have anytime to respond because she feels herself become tired like as her eyes close. Right before Tris completely drifts away as she tries to prepare herself.
May the odds ever be in my favor?
Tris Pov:
Tris snaps out of the simulation and is a little shaken. As she's coming back to reality she notices Four is right in front of her holding her hand.
" It's alright. It's alright. Are you okay Tris?" Four says staring at Tris with amusement and a little concern. Tris let's go of Four's hand and wipes her face as she takes a deep breath attempting to calm herself down. After a few minutes Four gives her a weird look.
"...How long do you think you were in the hallucination Tris?..." Four asks continuing to look at her strangely. Tris scowls a little bit.
"Umm I don't know... 20 minutes maybe?...Why?" Tris asked suspiciously. Four shakes his head slowly with a straight face.
"No. 3 minutes. Four times faster then the average. I've never seen anyone do that well on their first time." Four says with a slight accusing tone.
"Oh really? Maybe I just got lucky..." Tris says with no emotion. Four squints his eyes a bit and shrugs.
"Yeah...Maybe." Four says flatly. Tris bits her lip trying to hold in her her emotions. Tris and Four sit in silence for what seems like hours. Just as Tris was about to speak Four speaks.
"So...How'd you get rid of the birds? The image wasn't clear." Four asked with a suspicious tone. Tris feels her nerves rise inside her but she holds it in and looks up at Four with a straight face.
"Umm... I just went into the water... Why?" Tris says flatly. Four nods his head and shakes his head.
"Oh nothing just wondering." Four says walking back to his computer thingy. "Well. Next time it'll be a lot easier. Four says typing not looking at Tris.
"Wait. I have to do this again?" Tris says groaning before slouching in the chair.
"Yeah, you have to practice several times before the final. But you're a natural...You got nothing to worry about." Four says before walking to the door and opening it. "You're free to go." Four says flatly with his signature straight face. Tris rises from her seat and walks out with his words haunting her.
"You're a natural"
Time skip:
Tris walks into the Pit and walks straight to the table her friends are sitting at and sits next to Will.
"My whole body was covered in these little insects. They were in my ears, in my throat, I couldn't breathe." Christina says shivering at the memory.
"I heard about this guy, like two years ago, got so panicked he had a heart attack in his chair, he almost died." Al says quietly. Christina and Tris both look at him in shock.
"Really?" Tris says with terror evident her voice.
"Yeah... But we got that to look forward to, right?" Al says and laughs sarcastically. "But how was it for you Tris?" Al asked shyly.
"Oh God it was horrible." Tris says shaking her head at thought. Christina gives her a suspicious look.
"Mhmm "sure" You were literally in there for like 1 minute, You didn't look like you had a problem with it at all." Christina says truthfully. Tris feels her nerves rising a bit.
"Me? No no no no. Guys I'm telling you it was terrible." Tris says with a voice full of seriousness. Will chuckles a bit and looks at her in disbelief.
"Oh come on. No one even came close to your time. You were amazing." Will says smiling. Tris was about to say thank you But is quickly cut off.
"Yeah, what's amazing is how she's gonna knock you right out of Dauntless." Peter says with a voice full of venom. Will was about to defend Tris when Peter cuts him off as well. "Look she's gone from being the worst to one of the best. Somebody's gotta take her place at the bottom. Who's it gonna be? You?" Peter states pointing at Will. Everyone at the table is quite. Tris was about to talk but gets cut off again only this time by Christina.
"Do you ever stop talking?" Christina says with a voice full of annoyance. Peter shrugs and continues his rant.
"I just want to know how she does it." Peter answers truthfully. "What's your trick Prior?" Peter asks in a accusing tone. Tris glares at Peter and snaps.
"There isn't a trick Peter." Tris says as she continues to glare. Peter laughs sarcastically and accusingly.
"Nobody gets through it that fast. Why don't you tell us how you do it?" Peter ask rhetorically. Peter starts to walk away but turns around with a evil smirk on his face. "Well if you wont tell me...At least tell your friends..."Peter says before fully walking away from their table. Tris glares at him until he's out of sight and shakes her head an turns back to her friends.
"He doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm really starting to wish he doesn't make into Dauntless. I don't know how I'll deal with working with him." Tris says with annoyance in her voice. Christina and Will nod in agreement. Tris turns to look at Al and he gives her a weird look.
"What is he talking about Tris? Is there a way to make it easier?" Al starts questioning. Tris shakes her head.
"No...I'm not doing anything to make it easier..." Tris says with a serious look on her face. Christina, Will and Al give her a one more suspicious look before dropping the conversation. Tris rolls her eyes and curses Peter mentally.
Time skip:(Second simulation Tris wakes up)
"How'd you do that?" Four asked Tris as she's bringing herself back to reality. Tris sits trying to catch her breath before responding.
"What?" Tris says running her hand through her hair.
"How'd you break the glass?" He asks with suspicion In his voice. Tris bites her lip and shrugs.
"Um I don't know...I just did it." Tris says scowling. Four squints his eyes in more suspicion.
"You just did it?" For nods and Four is quiet for a couple of minutes. "What were your aptitude test results?" Four asked with curiosity and suspicion in his voice.
"I told you and everyone else at the meeting. My test results were Abnegation." Tris says with annoyance in her voice. Four laughs and walks to Tris and looks her in her eyes.
"Yeah you did...But I don't think so. I think you're lying to me." Four says with seriousness in his voice. Tris tries her best not to gulp and holds in her nerves. Tris rolls her eyes and looks at him with a straight face.
"Now why would I lie to you?" Tris asks Four challengingly. Four shrugs.
"I don't know... Which is why I'm confused on why you're lying to me in the first place." Four states with disappointment evident in his voice. Tris scowls and crosses her arms over her chest.
"I'm not lying Four. Can I go now or are you going to continue to interrogate me?" Tris says flatly. Four continues to look Tris in her eyes before walking to the door and opening it. Tris gives him a fake smile and try's to walk out but Four steps in front of her blocking the exit.
"And just so you know Tris. Dauntless don't break glass like that." Is all Four says before stepping out the way and watching Tris walk out the room.
