"I'm not lying Four. Can I go now or are you going to continue to interrogate me?" Tris says flatly. Four continues to look Tris in her eyes before walking to the door and opening it. Tris gives him a fake smile and try's to walk out but Four steps in front of her blocking the exit.
"And just so you know Tris. Dauntless don't break glass like that." Is all Four says before stepping out the way and watching Tris walk out the room.
Tris's POV:
(At Tori's Tattoo Shop)
"My brother, he was like you Tris. During the second stage, he started to get good really fast... And on the last day of the simulations one of the Dauntless leaders came to watch him. The next morning we found his body at the bottom of the chasm. They got rid of him Tris." Tori says warningly.
"Wait...Who did?" Tris asks in a low voice. Tori looks around the tattoo shop before responding.
"The Dauntless Leaders. You can't let them find out about you." Tori says sternly. Tris sits back in her chair trying to make sense of everything she's been told and remembers that Four suspects she's a divergent. After a couple minutes of silence Tris bites her lip and looks at Tori scared.
"And what if they already know?" Tris asks hesitantly. Tori's eyes gets big and shakes her head in pity. Tori walks to the door and opens with sympathy in her eyes.
"Then you're already dead." Tris sits there and feels her heart beating faster and faster in anxiety. Tris finally gets up and walks out of the Door without another word.
Tris begins to feel herself having a anxiety attack and she takes of into run. Tris doesn't know where to but she keeps running. Before Tris knows it she's running along side a train and not too long after that gets inside and she falls asleep. A couple hours later she wakes up and sees she's at Erudite headquarters. Tris jumps out the train and starts walking towards the building until she's stopped by a man.
"I need you to come with me." A man dressed in blue says. Tris nods her head and follows him inside the building and into a office where she sees Jeannie sitting at the desk.
"Hey Tris, Long time no see, how are you?" Jeannie asks sweetly.
"Yeah...I'm fine" Tris looks at her suspiciously.
"That's good. Beatrice I'm actually so glad that you came here today." Jeannie says smiling.
"You are? And it's just Tris..." Tris asks a little more suspicious.
"So Tris are you happy with the faction you chose?" Jeannie asks ignoring Tris's question again before taking a drink from her water bottle.
"Yeah...Why?" Tris asks. Jeannie bites her lip and fake smiles at Tris.
"It's funny you say that. See you say you like your faction...Yet here you are. You must've come to see your cousin... Why is that?" Jeannie asks smirkingly.
"I just wanted to talk to him. That's all." Tris says with a straight face. Jeannie nods her head.
"Have you seen your parents?" Jeannie continues to interrogate.
"My parents are dead...How would I have seen them? Both you and I know they're dead." Tris raises an eyebrow. Jeannie shifts in her chair a bit before responding.
"I get it. It's hard to let go. Faction before blood. It's an important ideal, but it's also sometimes difficult to fulfill. It goes against our fundamental humana. But that's exactly the weakness we need to overcome." Jeannie explains to Tris.
"So, you think human nature's a weakness?" Tris asked in confusion.
"I think human nature is the enemy. It's human nature to keep secrets, lie, steal, and I want to eradicate that. That's how we'll maintain a stable peaceful society. You would help me with that wouldn't you." Jeannie asks sweetly and Tris scoffs.
"Now why would I help you?" Tris looks at Jeannie unimpressed.
"You're aware that Abnegation is undermining the faction system, they're breaking laws, harboring Divergents? Right Tris?" Jeannie asks. Tris shakes her head.
"No I wasn't aware considering I mind my own business something that Erudite's seem to be struggling with." Tris says. "But if that's the case then I'm glad I left." Tris adds.
"See I need to know that I can count on you to enforce the law, even if it's been broken by those close to you, and by people you care about." Jeannie finishes. Tris nods her head listening to all the bullshit coming out of Jeannie's mouth.
"Of course you can." Tris says smiling. "You have my word."
"Well now that, that's covered. I'll have a car take you back to Dauntless." Jeannie says before Tris stands up and is led outside and into the car.
(Back At Dauntless:)
The Car drops off Tris at Dauntless and she sighs before walking inside. In the split second Tris can't even comprehend. She's being attacked by three guys in masks and they're trying to push her towards the Chasm.
"Come on! Get her over!" One if the masks males say to the others. As Tris continues to struggle to get out of the guys grip. She hits one and takes of his mask. Tris feels her heart drop and the feeling of anger and betrayal enter her body. Al, her friend. Someone who she risked getting kicked out of Dauntless for. Is on of the three people trying to kill her.
"Come on! Do it! Do it" One of the other masked guy says before dropping to the floor. Tris gets out of her trance and notices she's free. Al and the other two were unconscious. Tris looks to her left and sees Four.
"You Alright?" Four says with concern. Tris feels herself about to cry but holds it in and shakes nods her head.
"Yeah..." Tris says offering a fake smile.
"Come on. Let's go." Four days grabbing her hand and leading her towards the apartments.
At Fours Apartment:
Four leads Tris inside his house and into his bedroom. Tris looks around the place while Four goes to his dresser and pulls out a sweater.
"Here, put this on." Four says handing Tris the sweater.
"Thank you..." Tris says before putting on the sweater then moving to sit on his bed.
"You'll be safe here." Four says gently before kneeling down in front of her to tend to her wounds. But Tris quickly grabs his hand.
"Sorry." Tris says genuinely. Four kisses her hand before continuing to tend to her wounds. "I just can't believe Al would do this." Tris says with hurt and betrayal in her voice.
"You're moving up through the ranks and he's failing. It makes him hate himself, it makes him hate you. He's…he's just afraid." Four says with no sympathy towards Al. Tris looks at him and sighs.
"Everyone's afraid." Tris says in a matter-of-fact tone.
"I know, but fear does something strange to people like Al. But not you. Fear doesn't shut you down, it wakes you up. I've seen it." Four says with a proud smile. Tris feel blush rise to her cheeks. After a few minutes of silence Four finishes tending to Tris wounds and he stands up.
"You should lie down, get some sleep." Four says before grabbing a pillow off his bed about to walk out the room when Tris's voice stops him.
"Yeah...Uh, where are you going?" Tris says noding towards the door he was about to leave out of. Four gives a small chuckle.
"Oh, I'm going to the living room to go sleep on the couch." Four says honestly about to rub the back of his neck.
"Oh...I don't want to kick you out of your own bed...I can take the couch." Tris says as she makes her way to get off the bed. Four chuckles a little before walking over to the bed.
"And what makes you think I'd let you sleep on my couch? It's fine Tris I can take the couch I'm a big boy." Four says before giving Tris a kiss on the cheek. Before walking out the room. Tris smiles a little bit as she lays down and darkness takes over.
