Unshown Moments for Matt Gets It S. 1

Kitty watched helplessly as Matt faced off with Gant and then was felled by the gunman. When the two men, who'd kept her back, finally released her, Kitty ran to Matt's side. Throwing herself to the ground beside him, she gently picked his head up, cradling it in her lap as she frantically called for someone to find Doc.

Chester, as soon as the gunman sauntered away, ran screaming down the street to find the physician, seeing him a moment later. Doc, bag in hand, rushed past the Marshal's assistant and headed to the middle of the street where the Marshal lay with his head in Kitty's lap.

The rest of the onlookers stood in shock, not only at the knowledge that their erstwhile and fearless Marshal had been so easily felled but also the spectacle of his lying in the lap of a saloon girl. Those, in town, who didn't know of the marshal and the saloon girl's friendship before this, certainly knew of it now. And most of them suspected it was mostly likely more than that as they watched the anxious young woman hold the big man close to her, tears flowing down her cheeks.

Looking up from Matt, Kitty finally saw Doc hurrying in their direction, worried expression on his face. "Doc, hurry!"

"Kitty?" Doc knelt down beside them, afraid the young woman was holding a dead man in her arms.

"He's alive." Kitty whispered urgently, as if raising her voice could somehow make it not to be so. "But he's hurt bad."

With a quick check, Doc confirmed her words then rose back to his feet. "Chester, some of you, get him up to my office. Now! Hurry up!" Looking back down, he gently gripped Kitty's shoulder. "Come on, Young Lady. Let him go so I can take care of him."

At first, Kitty seemed not to hear him. But with a firm tug of her arm, Doc succeeded in getting her to release the wounded lawman so he could be carried away.

"Doc, is he…" The question was there but she couldn't bring herself to give it utterance.

"I don't know, honey." Doc answered. "But I promise, I'll do everything I can. I promise."

Kitty stood still in the middle of the street, silently watching as Matt was picked up and hustled up the stairs to Doc's office. She knew if there was a way to save the man who held her heart, Doc could do it. She trusted in that. She had to. Because if Doc failed, she was certain, she too would be as dead as the Marshal. Taking a deep breath, she moved across the street and up Doc's stairs to wait and watch.
