The sun rose over Konoha, the day begun and people went about it. Smiles on their faces and moods high. So very high, it was warming. The people here just as Hikari knew, as she remembered. Her favorite shops, her favorite places to eat and favorite spot. Everything was great or it would be a feeling the young Hyuga held if not for this prickling nerve weighing on her. Something...something felt...offestting. Everything down below was normal and wonderful, nothing out of place.
She had her family, her mother, and father. They all lived together with love, her father was the man she grew to know and admire. Her mother was generous and light-hearted, did her best to make sure everything was filled with rays. Even if she did a bit overboard. The pictures she's seen lining her home, her timeline of her parents and their life before she existed. Pictures with their team and of their years together before marriage and after. Pictures of herself from day one till now. There was not a single mishap out of place. Three meals a day, training and sparring. Family strolls through the village, even occasional family outing dinners.
Everything on the surface was perfect, yet it felt lack. Every picture she looked at some sort of piece was missing. Every corner she turned at home expected to see someone, to find nothing. No one. Yet, heard echo laughter that brought her...this sense of calm and light. Her mother told her it was the birds from outside or night crickets. But, Hikaru had a deeper feeling it was something much more.
With that laughter came a face, it was hard to make out. She'd wake up in the middle of the night reaching out finding nothing. But, herself. Alone in her room. And the night to keep her company. While the face haunted her. She still was able to recall just a small bit of it. None of the faces here in the village matched what she saw, none at all. None of them matched those seafoam green eyes, those bright-wide eyes. That lite up when they spoke her name. When it sung her name just because, when it fussed, when it...it did whatever emotion she could think of. Sounding like a child...a precious child. That left a tight feeling in her chest. Especially in her heart. It bled everytime those eyes came, everytime she heard that voice.
It wouldn't stop, it just wouldn't.
What was wrong? Why did she care about those eyes? Why did she need to find them? Who was that familiar individual? That left that empty feeling inside? Her eyes activate she looked all throughout the village, moving from place to another. Going to the academy, to the Hyuga compound. To the park. Even the Hokage mountain. As well the front entrance of the village, she could not find that missing piece. She couldn't find those eyes.
She couldn't find...Yoshi. A name that rolled off the tongue left a bitter taste in her mouth. Left her vexed and muddled, sighs heavily returns her eyes back to their normal state. Nothing...again, just as the days before. Turning her back to the crowd down below walk away unaware of watchful eyes in her direction.
If you can't find the answers with your eyes then you can always find them in text
Words that choose her next choice of action, arriving the Konoha library. Looking up at it, a place she didn't really come too that much, but...for some reason it felt it calling to her and...that woman..that woman who looks identical like her mother holding her close in her arms up the stairs. They would read together, she would read to her, and so...so would that man with that mark. That red kanji mark in the corner of his forehead.
He held her by the hand like china and lead her up the steps. She'd sit in his lap and he'd...he'd read to her. His voice..was warm and safe. He'd..he'd even read to her at night. In her room.
Papa! Read me a story!
She heard her younger self chime to faceless man, holding a book in her little hands with the biggest smile, he couldn't resist, and...he'd do it. He'd take the book and read to her, no matter the area. No matter what.
No...no matter what..she thought solemnly. That heavy feeling pressed upon her, it was growing more and more. Pushed her legs to walk up the steps. Her hand out to push the door open when the ground village suddenly shook. Nearly losing her footing she catches herself.
Weird.
Looking around finds everything fine, the people fine, no one seem affected by that sudden...tremor. They had on their smiles that didn't even wavier. With a few more seconds of observation she goes inside. It was quiet, very quiet. Just a few bodies in here, which was good, walking to the front desk where the librarian sat gets the older man's attention.
He looks up from what he was reading. Rather surprised to see her here. Though still greeted her with a smile. "Why, Hikari hello there."
"Yes, hello." She responds back quickly, looking around.
Noticing her behavior questions it. "You okay? Are you looking for something?"
"I was wondering...if there are any records here on the people in the village?"
That was a rather strange question, but the urgency and significance in her words and eyes told him she meant it. Stroking his thining beard pondering for a second. "Well...those would be in the archives, why do you ask?"
Opening her mouth to say, quickly closes them as a voice whispered for her not trust him. "No reason...the archives are?" He points the direction for her. "Thank you." With a quick bow, she leaves. Just as someone enters watching scurry off.
The archives were rather deep, but not too deep in the library. Reaching them her eyes search the binds of the book for the right one to go through first. Remembering the name starts with the W-Z, taking it down sets it on the floor and opens to the first couple of pages. Her finger as a guide goes down the row of names when another tremor shook the place. She braces herself, this one was much powerful and longer than the last one. Huddling and cover her neck expecting the books to fall, find nothing came down. Sitting up slowly inspect around, nothing had fallen.
Weird.
Kar-Kar!
That voice brought her back to her task, returning back to the search turn a few pages till she gets to the Y's. Finally, she could start. Trailing from the top to the bottom, a figure approaches slowly from behind. Their hand reaches out and grabs her by the shoulder. Her eyes activate instantly and she drives an elbow back with a powerful kick.
If the didn't move out the way, they surely would have felt that. "Whoa! Calm down Hikari!" Boruto lands a few feet away. Realizing it was him, out of all people, Hikari's eye return to normal and she turns her back to him.
"Go away." She coldly said. "You're bothering me."
Her words always so sharp and irritating. Boruto wondered how in the world they were related. When she at times couldn't stand being around him. It only made it the feeling mutual.
Ignoring her words, he walks over peering over her shoulder."Why are you looking at that?"
Grumbling under her breath turns her shoulder again at him, signifying her refusal to answer and for him leave. This didn't work. He walks over to the other side of the book, squating down his eyes read the names while following her finger.
He couldn't help but snicker."Learning your ABC's?" He was baiting her, his smirk deepening seeing its effect in her eyes she tried to suppress. "Aren't you suppose to start with A's first? Hmm?"
"Aren't you suppose to have already graduated from the Academy? Oh, wait I forgot you're an idiot. Never mind."
"I'm not an idiot, my grades are high."
"And, yet here you are outside of school. My point. Now, go away. I'm busy...Yoshi...Yoshi.."She mutters the last part to herself.
Seeing the way his cousin was so fixated on her task, going down each name her finger rolled past, the way her lips mouthed the name over and over again. The feverish look in her eyes and glistening sweat that appeared on her brow. The gritting of her teeth that pained whenever she came across the wrong thing. She was clearly searching for something, what it was? He wasn't sure, but, it was really taking its toll.
Realizing this was not the time, he sits down and uses his eyes to search for what she was looking for, his eyes read faster than her's. Didn't find it on the page she was one, but had a feeling it was on another. Pushing her hand out the way, grabs a good amount of pages and before Hikari could react, he points.
"Here. Yoshi."
Hikari's eyes dart down to where his finger rested on the name...that wasn't there. Her heart dropped. And it showed. "Why are you looking for someone name Yoshi? Who is Yoshi?" Boruto wanted to know.
Silence swept over Hikari, her eyes drop with her head. She didn't need this right now. "...It..It's nothing."
Kar-Kar!
Shutting her eyes hears the voice and...that face...that fuzzy face smiling brightly at her. Calling to her. Running over, getting closer their arms wide open like a bird, throws themselves on her...
"Yoshi!" She lunges forward catching them, holds them tight. "...Yoshi...Yoshi.." she said their name softly, inhaling their scent. Realizing it wasn't their scent...opening her eyes find Boruto in her embrace instead.
Quickly she lets him go and they stare at each other. "..." Blinking a few times Boruto snaps out of it and reaches out to Hikari. She quickly smacks it away standing with pained eyes. "Hi-"
"No!" She steps back shaking her head. And snaps. "Where is Yoshi? Where is Yoshi?" Tilting his head to the side, Boruto wasn't sure who or what she was talking about. That she mistook differently. Baring her teeth. Activating her eyes gets into a stance Boruto knew all too well. "Don't act dumb! Where is Yoshi! Where is...is..Yoshi!?" With no answer given, she lunges determined to get her answer.
