Sora was in the Keyblade Graveyard and had just witnessed all of his friends except Riku die from a large demon tide, a group of shadows that attacked all at once. He didn't know what to do. His friends were his power, and without them, he felt useless. Sora fell to his knees and screamed. "Sora!" Riku shouted as he ran to Sora's side. Sora began to sing.

"I've seen dark before, but not like this
This is cold
This is empty
This is numb
The life I knew is over
The lights are out
Hello, darkness
I'm ready to succumb
I followed you around
I always have
But you've gone to a place I cannot find
This grief has a gravity
It pulls me down
But then Mickey's voice whispers in my mind
You are lost
Hope is gone
But you must go on
And do the next right thing"

Sora stopped his singing as he cried. "They're gone. Kairi, Donald... Goofy, the King... Gone forever. What do we do? Without them... I... All my strength came from them. They gave me all of it. Alone, I'm worthless. We've lost... It's over."

"Sora, you don't believe that. I know you don't," Riku stated before he walked over to the demon tide. The demon tide came right at him, and he used his keyblade to pierce through the darkness, forming a tunnel. Sora went back to singing.

"Can there be a day beyond this night
I don't know anymore what is true
I can't find my direction
I'm all alone
The only star that guided me was you"

They were both swallowed by the darkness.

Sora awoke in a strange that seemed to be made entirely out of sky with a reflective surface for the ground. Sora didn't know where he was. He wanted to lay there forever, but he knew that he needed to get up to do the next right thing. He began to sing again as he lifted himself up to stand.

"How to rise from the floor when it's not you I'm rising for
Just do the next right thing
Take a step
Step again
It is all that I can to do
The next right thing
I won't look too far ahead
It's too much for me to take
But break it down to this next breath
This next step
This next choice is one that I can make"

Chirithy explained to Sora that he had to put himself back together by gathering all his pieces if he wanted to leave. He looked at all of the Sora's running about and knew that he had to try.

"So I'll walk through this night
Stumbling blindly toward the light
And do the next right thing"

Sora paused when he thought about the possibility that his friends were gone for good. That scared him worse than anything else.

"And with the dawn
What comes then?
When it's clear that everything will never be the same again"

With a newfound resolve, he pushed onward.

"Then I'll make the choice
To hear that voice
And do the next right thing"
