The Christmas holidays had started and Ronnie was really looking forward to the kids being off school and getting to spend some time with them.
They were all really tired after a long term at school so they were having a lazy morning.
Matthew was the only one out of bed so far.
"Mummy what are we doing today?"
"I was thinking we could have a nice lazy day today. Maybe can go to the park later if the rain stops"
Jack came into the lounge and passed a coffee to Ronnie.
"Thank you" Ronnie said smiling as Jack sat down next to her
Matthew came and sat in between the two of them. Ronnie placed a kiss on her son's head.
"How long before everyone else will be awake?" Matthew asked
"A little while I reckon. It's the first day of the holidays so I think they are all going to want a lie in"
"Sleeping is boring though. Playing is much more fun"
"Wait until you're older and you will enjoy a lie in too I'm sure"
Once Ronnie had finished her coffee she went up for a shower.
On the way to her bedroom she passed Jess coming out of the bathroom.
"Morning sweetheart"
"Morning Mum"
"Did you sleep okay? Yes and it was so nice not to get up early"
"I was expecting you to sleep in later to be honest. Is Amy up?"
"No she's still asleep"
"I'm going to have a shower now and then I'm going to do a nice breakfast for everyone"
"I'll help you"
"That's very nice of you to offer. I'm happy to do it though. It's the first day of the holidays, you deserve a break"
"I want to help"
"Okay I won't be long in the shower"
Ronnie had a shower and got ready for the day before going down to the kitchen.
Ricky was up now too. Jess and Ricky were both still in there pyjamas though.
"I'm going to get the sausages and bacon out. Jess do you want to whisk some eggs up?"
Jess nodded before helping her Mum.
"Mum is it okay if I go shopping with my friends this afternoon?"
"Yeah course it is. Do you need a lift?"
"No Emily's Mum is going shopping anyway so she said she'd take us"
Whilst Ronnie and Jess were cooking the breakfast Amy and Ellie both came down the stairs.
"You're up finally" Matthew said
"I was enjoying a nice lie in until you woke me up" Ellie said as she started to tickle her brother
"Oh Matthew I told you not to wake them up"
Once the breakfast was ready they all sat at the table together. Jack had been busy at work recently but Ronnie was hoping they'd all get to spend lots of time with him over Christmas.
"So Jess is going shopping this afternoon. Has anyone else got any plans?"
"I'm going out for coffee later"
"Who with?"
"My friends"
"What about you Aims?"
"I don't have any plans today. I don't want to do anything"
Ronnie laughed. She knew how tired Amy was and how much she was looking forward to having some time off school.
After breakfast Jess went upstairs to have a shower.
She had a nice long shower before going into her bedroom to get dressed.
After choosing what to wear there was a knock on the door.
"It's Amy can I come in?"
Jess and Amy had agreed that if the door was closed they would knock first rather than just walking in.
"I'm about to get dressed"
"I'm going to have a shower. Can I just come in to put my phone on charge first?"
"Okay"
Amy quickly put her phone on charge before going for a shower leaving Jess to get dressed.
Jess put on her crop top and sighed as she looked at her figure in the mirror. She wanted to start wearing a bra but she'd been too scared to speak to her Mum about it. She'd hoped Ronnie might have asked her if she wanted to start wearing one but she hadn't.
Amy had been wearing a bra for a while now as she'd started developing when she was quite young and Jess felt really envious of her cousin.
Jess finished getting dressed before putting on a bit of mascara and some lip gloss. She then blow dried her hair.
Amy came back in just as Jess finished.
"You look pretty"
"Thanks"
"Do you want me to curl your hair for you?"
"Yes please" Jess replied smiling
Amy had been quite moody for the past week so Jess was pleased to see she seemed happier today. Most of the time the 2 girls got on really well. They were really close.
"Okay I'll just get dressed first. Don't look"
"I won't"
Amy quickly got dressed.
"Do you want me to do it with curlers or straighteners?"
"Urmm straighteners please"
Amy plugged in the straighteners that she'd got for her Birthday.
Amy curled Jess' hair and Jess was really pleased with how it looked once she'd finished.
"Thanks Amy it looks really good"
"No problem. I'm going to do mine now"
Amy sat down and did her makeup. Amy loved doing her makeup. Ronnie didn't let her wear much to school but at the weekend and in the holidays Amy was allowed to wear more. She put some concealer on before applying her eyeshadow.
Jess laid on her bed on her phone for a bit while Amy got ready.
"What time are you going shopping?" Amy asked
"I'm being picked up in about 10 minutes"
"Cool. Do you want to do a face mask when you get back later?"
"Yeah that sounds good. Shall we do nails too?"
"Yeah. We can see if Ellie wants to join in too"
The three girls loved having pamper evenings together.
Jess packed her bag and it wasn't long before Emily's Mum arrived to pick her up.
"I'm off now" Jess said to Ronnie
Ronnie passed Jess some money.
"I don't want you buying too much, this close to Christmas"
"I won't don't worry. I might look for a new outfit for Christmas Day though"
"Yeah that's fine. Have a good day, see you later"
"Bye Mum, love you"
"Love you too"
Once Jess left Ronnie decided it would be a good idea to get out for some fresh air.
Ellie didn't come as she was going for coffee soon. After a lot of persuasion Amy and Ricky agreed so they headed to the park along with Ronnie, Jack and Matthew.
When they got there Ricky wanted to kick his football around for a bit.
"Do you want me to have a kick around with you?" Jack offered
"Nah it's fine" Ricky said before going off
"Amy will you go on the swings with me?" Matthew asked
Amy agreed so it left Ronnie and Jack alone.
"Do you think Ricky's okay? He hasn't seemed himself recently" Ronnie asked
"I think so. He's probably just tired because it's the end of term. They all are"
"Yeah I guess"
Jack and Ronnie continued to talk. A couple with a newborn baby walked past them and Ronnie couldn't help but have a little peep.
"That baby was adorable Jack. I do miss the baby days"
"Well you aren't having another. We've got our hands fall with the 5 of them"
"I know we're not having another. I love the ages they're all at now but I do miss them being really little"
Jack smiled.
"I'm going to go and see Ricky for a bit" Jack said so Ronnie went over to check on Matthew and Amy.
They stayed at the park for a bit but then decided to head home as it was quite cold and it looked like it was going to start raining again soon.
When they got home they all watched a Christmas film together.
"Mummy I'm hungry" Matthew said
"Okay I'll make you some lunch"
They'd had a big breakfast so Ronnie wasn't planning on eating until dinner. She got some plates with picky bits on for Amy, Ricky and Matthew though.
The rest of the afternoon passed quickly.
Jess arrived home and was going to go straight up the stairs.
As she was about to go up though Ronnie came from the kitchen into the hallway.
"You're home. Did you have a nice time?"
"Yeah it was really good thank you"
"Did you buy a nice Christmas Day outfit?" Ronnie asked looking at the bag Jess was holding
"Yeah I bought a sparkly dress"
"Are you going to come into the lounge and show me?"
Jess nodded before reluctantly following Ronnie into the lounge. Really she just wanted to put the things she'd bought away.
Jess took the dress out of the bag and held it up whilst still holding the carrier bag.
"That looks really pretty. I bet you're going to look lovely in it"
"Is that all you bought?"
Jess nodded.
"Where is everyone?"
"Dad, Amy and Matthew have just gone to choose some pizzas for dinner tonight. Ricky's in his bedroom and Ellie's still out"
"I'm going to go and put this away" Jess said before quickly going upstairs
Ronnie couldn't help but think Jess was acting a bit strangely. After a couple of minutes Ronnie decided to go and check on her daughter.
The door to Amy and Jess' bedroom was closed so Ronnie knocked.
Jess didn't hear so Ronnie just walked in when there was no reply.
"Mum what are you doing I'm getting changed" Jess shouted
She'd bought a bra when she was shopping so was trying it on to see if it fitted. She was so mortified that Ronnie had seen.
"Sorry. I'll come back in a sec" Ronnie said realising that she'd embarrassed Jess
Ronnie waited outside of the bedroom. She hadn't been expecting to see her daughter wearing a bra and felt upset Jess hadn't felt she could speak to her about wanting to wear one.
After a couple of minutes Ronnie knocked on the door.
"Is it okay if I come in?"
"Okay"
Ronnie walked in and Jess was sat on her bed.
"Sorry for walking in on you, I didn't mean to embarrass you" Ronnie said as she sat down next to Jess
Much to Ronnie's surprise Jess suddenly burst into tears.
"Hey what's wrong?"
"I'm sorry"
"What've you got to be sorry for"
"For buying a... you know"
"You don't have to be sorry for that. I'm sorry for not taking you to get one sooner. I have been meaning to for a little while now because I think you're starting to need one but I've just been so busy but that's not an excuse but I'm sorry"
"I thought you didn't think I need one because you asked Amy if she wanted to get a bra because you thought she needed one"
"I'm sorry baby. Even if I didn't think you needed one, I wouldn't have stopped you from getting some bras. You're at an age now where you're bound to want to wear one. Now come on, stop these tears"
"I wish I went with you, I didn't really know what to get"
"Well the one you were trying on did look a little big to me. Do you want to show me what you got?"
Jess got out the bras she'd bought and showed her Mum. They were all very padded and looked like they'd be too big for Jess.
"They're very pretty but I'm guessing they don't fit too well"
"They're way too big"
"I think a little shopping trip is in order for us tomorrow then and we can get you some that fit properly"
"Thanks Mum"
"I'm so sorry for not finding the time to go sooner"
"It's okay. Will it just be the two of us when we go shopping?"
"Yes I promise"
Jess cuddled into her Mum.
They were still cuddled up when Amy came in. She noticed instantly that Jess had been crying.
"What's up Jess?"
"Nothing I'm fine now"
Amy wondered what Jess had been upset about but didn't ask any questions.
"Right I'm going to go and get those pizzas in" Ronnie said
She kissed the top of Jess' head before standing up.
"We're going to have a pamper night Auntie Ronnie. Do you want to join in?" Amy asked
"Oh yeah I'm up for that, I really need my toe nails sorted"
Ronnie went downstairs and put the oven on before pouring some wine for her and Jack ready for a night in with her family.
