"Try walking away," he suggests.
"They're blocking the elevators and the staircase." She points out.
"You're making excuses." He rolls his eyes.
"My patient is on another floor." She smirks.
I'm right.
She gloats.
Know-it-all!
He challenges.
"Maybe if we act normal. She won't notice" Addison suggests.
"What are we? Six?" He giggles at the ridiculousness.
"Do you have any other ideas?" She pouts.
You're gloating.
Alex would point out
Well, I'm always right.
Addison smiles.
She is beautiful; absolutely intoxicating.
"What about Sloan?" He asks.
"Don't worry about him." She says as she walks off to her former sister-in-law.
Things are about to get interesting.
"Nancy!" Addison greets. She throws her hands up and envelops the other woman into a hug. "Let me guess. Did mom send you out?"
Carolyn never did like Addison.
"I hear Derek is trying to ban you from Seattle." The darker-haired woman replies.
"Did he tell you he's living in a trailer?" Addison points out.
"Yeah," Nancy replies with a smile.
Oh no.
Alex sees the elevators open.
Derek.
Alex wants to run up there and pull Addison away for an "emergency,"
But he isn't her intern today.
So, he plants his feet to the ground and watches from the sidelines.
"Derek," Nancy calls for her brother.
Addison's heart raises.
Mark looks terrified.
The neurosurgeon stares at the three people he used to know.
He walks away.
Real mature McDreamy.
Alex rolls his eyes. It takes a lot for him to be a sarcastic comment.
Not the time or place.
He immediately darts his eyes back to Addison.
Screw it.
"Dr. Montgomery?" Alex walks up to the attendings.
"Karev?" Addison turns around.
"I heard you have two uteruses." He says smugly.
He's so going to pay for that later.
"Are you interested?" Addison challenges. Her tone was bordering between banter and flirting. Mark even raised an eyebrow.
She was leaving crumbs for the Seattle Grace Rumor Mill.
You like the attention.
He teases.
So do you.
She replies.
"Aren't you supposed to be on hold?" Mark interrupts.
"Aren't you supposed to be doing anything other than asking your interns to be on the phone with DMV?" Addison looks at Mark. The taller man looks flustered.
She's good.
"O'Malley, get Karev up to speed." She commands as she walks towards the elevator.
"HE ASKED TO BE IN MYCASE!" George yelled. "My case." He emphasized.
"Wait, evil spawn asked to be in the vagina squad?" Christina clarifies.
"Yup." George looks confused.
"Maybe they're sleeping together," Izzie suggests.
It hits them.
"They have been spending a lot of time together." Izzie points out.
"They aren't yelling at each other anymore," George adds.
"And she's definitely dressing a little sluttier now," Christina says.
All eyes are on her now.
"You've noticed it too." The Asian woman defends. George nods.
"I thought she's sleeping with Sloan," Meredith asks.
"Maybe she's sleeping with both of them," Christina suggests.
"Whatever is going on; Alex stole my uteruses." George bitches as he grabs his lab coat and heads towards the elevator.
George glances around as he walks towards his patient's room.
That's strange.
Dr. Montgomery is lingering outside the door.
"The rhythm in your voice helps calm her." You can hear Alex's voice from outside the room. "I read a couple of articles on that recently." He added.
She was eavesdropping.
The tall red-haired doctor then took notice of George. "Dr. O'Malley," she acknowledges.
She was clearly off guard by the intern, so she hurriedly enters the room.
George glared at the other intern in the room.
MY CASE
"Greg, Noelle, I have very good news for you," Addison announces to make her presence known. "According to our tests, the babies are both perfectly healthy." She smiles. She takes a deep breath. "But they are substantially different sizes for a very unique reason. The test indicates that the babies have two different due dates."
George, wanting to show off Alex, interrupts. "According to our calculations, the larger baby, your son, was conceived a full six weeks before your daughter."
"Oh, God," Noelle, the patient, replies.
This is getting even more interesting.
Alex looks at George; then at Addison.
Addie looks shocked.
George retained the smile on his face.
He still hasn't caught on.
"I don't understand. That can't be right." Greg, the fiancé of the patient, stammers. "That's impossible."
Addison now fully understands what is about to happen. She takes a deep breath and explains the situation. "No, actually, it's quite possible. Our tests are extremely accurate in predicting due dates."
Alex and George are now both slowly backing away from the bed, millimeter by millimeter. They are being very careful to not be noticed. The former gently graces her arm to signal her to back away.
She ignores it.
"But we broke up." Greg pointed out. Noelle, now, looks nervous.
"Greg, I am so sorry," Noelle interjects.
He ignores her. "I mean," Greg stands. "We were barely speaking six weeks after the conception. Let alone having sex."
Addison feels flushed.
This is quite the opposite of her situation, but she couldn't help but relate to her patient.
After all, she was in this mess because she, too, cheated.
"Or at least I wasn't having sex." Greg's voice now seems louder.
"It was one night," Noelle emphasizes. "It was nothing."
"I can't believe you did this."
"I can't believe we finally did it." Derek took the empty chair beside her.
Addison glanced at her future ex-husband as she took a sip of her fourth, maybe fifth, a glass of scotch.
Maybe Joe's wasn't such a good idea.
"What are you doing here Derek?" Addison asked. She had always been good at keeping up with alcohol.
"I knew you'd be here." He replied.
The smile on his face earlier is completely wiped away. He remained silent and took a sip from the drink Joe just handed to him. They both drank in silence.
"Hard day?" She muttered.
He nodded his head.
"Tough case? He asked.
She shook her head. No.
"How many have you had?" He asked.
"5." Joe interrupted. "What's with you two?"
"We are getting divorced." She replied dryly.
"We filed the paperwork today." He added.
They both drink their glasses.
Joe motions to ask if they want another round.
Derek shakes his head.
They looked at their empty glasses and soaked in the misery.
"Do you want to get out of here?" He asked.
"Are you drunk?" She countered.
"No." He replied. "Are you?"
"No." She looked into his eyes.
He tucked her hair behind her ear and whispered, "maybe we should get out of here."
Dr. Montgomery?" George repeated.
She had been so lost in thought. She hadn't noticed that she had already been whisked away from the patient's room.
"What does this mean?" George repeats his question.
"He is not the father of both babies." Alex explains.
"Right." Addison nodded. "O'Malley can you go back in to monitor her heart rate." She ordered. He nodded. "Karev, can you go and see if you can find Richard?"
Alex normally would try to talk her into letting him shadow her, but he knew that it wasn't the right time.
Both interns walked away to fulfill their duties.
Author's Note: Hi! I'm back. I hope that there are still some of you who are interested in this story. I just wanted to clear up that in this story, Addison and Derek had conceived the baby sometime between "Sometimes a Fantasy" and "Oh, the Guilt."
