After quickly filling Hinata in on the details of our strange day, Naruto made a suggestion that Yoichi would have sulked for a week if we didn't take up.
"We were hoping you would all stay here with us until the repairs on your house are all done."
"Yes!" Yoichi screamed, even though he didn't have the slightest clue why our house needed repairing all of a sudden. All he knew was that every kid in his class would have loved to trade places with him!
Sasuke placed a calming hand on his head, preventing the little boy from jumping around any further. He could see past my polite smile and see the concern in my eyes when I looked at Hinata. She was already six months pregnant, the last thing I wanted was to bring any kind of danger to her door.
"Please stay here, I insist." Hinata smiled warmly at me, lovingly caressing her bump without a flicker of hesitation in her eyes.
"Okay." I reluctantly agreed, careful not to show my hesitation to Naruto or Hinata.
A few days later I found myself in a completely different mood- deliriously happy and completely astonished. Me, Sasuke and Yoichi we're sitting in a room in the hospital, mouths hanging open, staring at the ultrasound monitor. I don't know how long we had been frozen like that but it felt like quite a while.
"Could you check again?" Sasuke mumbled to the doctor.
The doctor adjusted her glasses and ran the device over my stomach once more. "There's no mistaking it. There are most certainly two heartbeats."
Sasuke looked from me, to Yoichi and then back to the screen. Two heartbeats? Two babies?
"Congratulations!" The doctor added, beaming at us all. She was quite excited too, it had been a while since she had delivered twins and the fact that they were from the Uchiha clan was doubly exciting.
"Th-thank you." I managed to utter. The news was still slowly sinking in, and not just for me, Sasuke was still staring at the screen.
"Could you check again?" he repeated the same question, despite knowing the answer was going to be exactly the same.
"Sasuke." I said sternly, capturing his attention. "We're having twins."
Once I'd actually vocalised it myself, we all seemed to snap out of it. Yoichi started dancing around the room cheering, Sasuke came and planted a kiss on my forehead and I started to grin. In a few more months we would be a family of five! To celebrate(as a family, me and Sasuke would celebrate differently later) we went to our favourite restaurant. For a treat Sasuke had some alcohol with his meal, I ate for three and Yoichi got double dessert so by the time we left we were all in a brilliant mood.
Sasuke was to my left squeezing my hand as we walked towards the shops, Yoichi was holding my right hand, walking slightly in front of me to make sure no one accidentally walked into my bump. It seemed like he was going to be just as protective over the babies as me and Sasuke.
"Hey!" We turned and saw Sakura running after us, dragging Taku behind her, who looked quite out of breath when they reached us.
I gently nudged Sasuke with my elbow when he released a loud, obvious sigh and greeted them. "Hey, how are you two?"
"Wow, you've taken to this pregnancy really well, Emiko-san. You look...how's the baby? You had your scan today, right?" Taku changed the direction of the conversation he had started when he sensed the air change around Sasuke. I was glad he did because he had a habit of making things awkward without meaning to.
"That's right! How did it go?" Sakura jumped in, either oblivious to the compliment her boyfriend nearly let slip or just ignoring it.
I could tell she had something to tell me, she had a kind of triumphant look on her face but I couldn't resist sharing our news first.
"We're-"
"I'm going to be a double big brother!" Yoichi announced before me, standing proudly in front of his new unborn siblings.
"Double? You mean you're having twins?" She gasped, looking between us.
"We are." Sasuke smiled, which surprised me because he didn't smile a lot and when he did it was usually only around me and Yoichi, sometimes Naruto. I caught Sakura blushing, even though she had moved on she still appreciated his amazing smile.
"Congratulations!" She squealed, pulling me in to a hug. "I'm so happy for you!"
"Me too. Congratulations." Taku added, slightly less enthusiastic than his girlfriend.
Sasuke noticed the way Taku was acting but he was in such a good mood that he was able to brush it aside. Instead of deciding how to warn him off, Sasuke just slipped his arm around my waist demonstrating that I was clearly his.
"We actually have some news of our own..." Sakura's face lit up as she spoke, like something she had been working on for a while had finally happened. "We're pregnant too!"
"W-wow, congratulations." I really hoped the shock didn't show on my face, it just seemed very soon.
"Sakura, you left your flowers!" Ino shouted from her shop a little further back up the path and Sakura quickly ran back to get them. At the same time Yoichi spotted something for the babies in one of the windows and pulled Sasuke over to have a look.
"I'm really pleased for you both." I said, observing the blush appearing on Taku's cheeks.
"Thank you, Emiko-san. I have to admit that it took me a while to come around to the idea but ever since Yoichi's birthday party she was determined to have a baby together, I guess seeing what a happy family you have made her want to start her own family with me."
I nodded and smiled whilst thinking to myself how much it actually sounded like some sort of competition.
"I'm surprised you're not engaged yet as well." I laughed, slyly testing out my theory.
"Actually she's been hinting about that too!" Taku chuckled and planted a kiss on Sakura's cheek as she rejoined us.
I said goodbye to them both, eager to return to Sasuke and Yoichi, who were making it clear that they were ready to move on by loitering by the shop windows.
"Let me know if you need to rest." Sasuke softly told me, brushing his fingers over the nape of my neck as we watched Yoichi choosing some cuddly toys for the babies. According to our little guy, he was in charge of toys and considering we had been in the same shop for twenty minutes, he was taking his job very seriously. We were more than happy to let him take that responsibility though, it was sweet to see how much he cared after the initial worry he had voiced when we had first broken the news to him.
"I don't think I'll ever get used to you saying that. You're usually wanting me to push me as far as I can go." I teased, grateful our backs were to the wall so I could squeeze his butt without anyone seeing.
He stifled a laugh and made sure no one was watching us before returning the favour by grabbing my butt but in true Sasuke style he went one step further and slipped his hand down the back of my trousers. We both spotted the shopkeeper approaching us and Sasuke made a move to retract his hand.
"Leave it there." I whispered.
It gave me a great deal of pleasure to see what those three simple words had done to him, he bit down on his lip and briefly closed his eyes as his fingertips gripped my bare ass.
"Are you looking for anything in particular today?" The kindly old man asked us, blissfully unaware of how aroused my husband currently was.
The sensible thing to do was to thank him for asking and tell him we were just waiting for Yoichi to pick out some toys but that wouldn't give Sasuke an excuse to 'punish' me later.
"Well, we've just found out we're having twins so we're looking around for all the things we need to buy. Could you tell me what we can buy here?"
The look on the shopkeeper's face was one of joy, half of his shop was dedicated to things for children and he was only too happy to relay a list of those things to us. The look on Sasuke's face was totally different, it was a smouldering sort of gaze he had with a mixture of frustration. I was very pleased, he was definitely going to get his own back later!
