I'm not going to do the usual review responses because I want to say a few things (and this chapter's already long enough).
First off, YAY! Total Drama Legends has now past 150 reviews! Thank you all. I also got to give a shout out to GoatedReads for basically reviewing every chapter. You rock, man.
Secondly, you probably already know this, but we're getting new seasons of Total Drama Island! I'm hyped. Don't know if it's a reboot, a continuation or one with entirely new characters. Whatever it is, I'm excited to see what we get.
The camera opened to a shot of the McPlane leaving Kichi Island. As usual, Chris kicked things off. "Last time on Total Drama Legends. Our competitors learned the importance of teamwork, patience and moral support." He paused. "Some...more than others. (Jo and Duncan fighting and Mike and Zoey ignoring each other) Six of our seven remaining competitors battled it out in an epic game of Simon says...,or rather, Sanders says. Jo and Duncan were at each other's throats most of the time, Amy and Samey...actually did pretty well and Mike and Zoey...well, they didn't talk a lot. And, in the end, that's what cost them the game. But, thanks to Duncan, the two were able to reconcile and fix their relationship. Wow, that Ex-Convict has really embraced his soft side."
The camera flashed, revealing Chef and Chris back in their pilot seats. "I'd make fun of the guy, but it isn't as fun if he's not embarrassed by it." He shrugged. "Oh, well, I'm sure I can find another way to make fun of him. Speaking of, Duncan is now the only guy left in the competition. Will he make it to the finale? Or will it be won by his Cadet girlfriend, or the hot-headed Jo? Or could either of the Twins take it? We still have a few more to go, so stick around and find out who will not be entertained."
Chef raised an eyebrow and glanced at his co-host. "Is anyone gonna get that reference?"
Chris ignored him. "Get ready for an all new Total...Drama...L...egends!"
The McPlane was flying high in the sky. Inside, the final five competitors were sitting in the loser class. Amy and Samey were seated next to each other, as were Duncan and Sanders. Jo sat, quietly, a few feet away from all of them.
Confessional (Jo): She was smirking proudly to herself. "Of course I made it into the final five. It happened once before, but this time, I'm gonna surpass everyone who's left. No one, and I mean not a single one of them, is gonna stop me."
Confessional (Amy): She too was grinning confidently. "I've basically got a free ticket to the finale. With my sister helping me, we can get rid of the rest of these chumps. We did it to Mike and Zoey, and we'll do it again."
Confessional (Samey): The Twin didn't seem as positive as her sister. "I'm glad Mike and Zoey were able to patch things up, but...I don't know if I did the right thing. What I did…" She trailed off, letting out a sad sigh.
Confessional (Sanders): "It's honestly hard to imagine that I would make it further than Macarthur on a reality show, especially after our run on the Ridonculous Race." She paused, before shrugging. "Yet again, I am dating an ex-convict, so I guess anything's possible."
Static.
Speaking of ex-convict, Duncan was contemplating his situation. He looked multiple times at the Twins, Jo and even at his own girlfriend.
Confessional (Duncan): He rubbed the back of his head. "Wow. I'm the only guy left. It's just me and four other chicks...and one of them's my cop girlfriend." He paused, letting all that sink in. He stared at the camera. "This has been a weird season."
Static
Sanders could see Duncan's wandering gaze. Looking for something to do, she decided to talk about it. "Something on your mind?"
Duncan turned his head. He waved her off. "It's nothing." He looked back, before suddenly realizing what he just said. "And, just to make things clear, It's actually nothing. I'm not trying to hide anything."
Sanders couldn't help but chuckle. "I won't ask."
They sat in silence for a while, with only the rumbling of the plane to keep them company. Eventually, Duncan spoke again. "So…" Sanders looked at him. "I wanted to talk to you about...what we're gonna do once we reach the finale."
The Cadet raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
The Ex-Con sighed and scratched the back of his head. "It's...well...I know we're a couple now and...it's been fun, but...I'm not gonna step aside and just let you win the final challenge."
Sanders gave him a weird look. "I...didn't think you would. I mean, I'm not gonna hold back either."
Duncan's eyes sprung open. "W-what?"
"Well, what were you expecting? Me to just sit back and let you win? Macarthur would kill me if I did that."
Duncan suddenly realized his poor choice of words. "Sorry. That's not what I meant, I was just...surprised is all. I thought you'd be upset that I put the money over you."
Sanders shrugged. "It's five million dollars. I get it. Doesn't mean anything has to change between us, once this is all over." She smiled and playfully nudged him on the arm. "I've fought so hard to be with you. I'm not about to let it go." Duncan couldn't help but smile. The two sat in silence again, this time much more content. But, eventually, Duncan's face fell slightly.
Confessional (Duncan): He still seemed uncertain. "So...I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I mean, I told her about me not holding back and...I guess she took it well." He stopped to consider what that meant. "But- I don't know- is she testing me?"
Static.
From a few feet away, Jo had been watching both of them. She had a smug grin plastered on her face.
Confessional (Jo): "I'm the only one who doesn't have anyone to back me up. The Twins are practically attached at the hip, and Dunce-can and Mall Cop are…" She shuddered. "...an item." She quickly shook it off, smirking again. "But, here's the thing. In a high stakes competition like this, relationships are gonna hold them back. I don't have anyone to protect or look out for and I'm fine with that." She leaned back confidently. "If I can get in either of their heads, they'll mess up. And if one of them falls, the other is sure to do the same." She chuckled mischievously.
Static
While Amy was watching Duncan, Sanders and Jo, her sister seemed lost in thought.
Confessional (Samey): She looked rather uncomfortable. "I can't stop thinking about what I did to Mike and Zoey. I didn't want to hurt him, but…" She sighed. "...it was for the challenge." She shook her head. "Yet again, they're probably happy they went out together." She closed her eyes. "Just a few more episodes and I won't have to do this anymore. Me and Amy can finally…" She kept her eyes shut, as she trailed off. After a few seconds, she opened them, looking very uncertain. "I'm...I'm sure my sister knows what we're doing."
Static
"Are you still thinking about what happened?" Amy asked, having finally turned her attention to her sister.
Samey stared at the ground, and debated if she should tell her. There's no fighting this. She glanced at her sister and explained how she was feeling. Amy kept a blank expression as she was talking. It didn't change once Samey was done too. She's probably sick of hearing me talk about this. The Twin sadly thought. So much for having a sister that's nice to me.
To her surprise, Amy actually put her hand on Samey's shoulder and gave a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry I had to make you do that. But you have to understand it was for the sake of winning." She smiled confidently. "With Jo and Duncan still after us, we can't let sympathy get in the way. We're not gonna make it to the finale, unless we do anything we can to get there."
Samey thought about what her sister said. She makes a good point. At least she listented to what I said. Her thoughts were interrupted as an image played in her head. She could see two small blonde girls running in an open field. She could hear laughter and the sound of footsteps running across the grass.
"Sis'?"
Samey broke out of her trance and her smile, that she didn't know she had, fell. She turned to Amy, who was giving her an odd look. Samey quickly regained her senses and shook the image out of her head. Then she smiled. "You're right. We gotta look out for each other."
Amy grinned, satisfied, and went back to watching the other three. Samey, meanwhile, looked back at the ground. She wanted to see the picture again.
Duncan and Sanders had been sitting in silence since their last talk. While Sanders seemed relaxed, Duncan was anything but. He was still thinking about what she had, and if it was a test. How is she okay with me focusing on the competition. He thought. I mean she was pretty cool, at first, but no one's...this cool. Courtney and Gwen were cool and then... He turned to his girlfriend. Ah, screw it.
"So you really don't have an issue with me giving my all for the next challenges?" He asked.
Sanders looked over at him, and shrugged. "Not really." She said casually.
Duncan nodded and faced forward. But the thought was still stuck in his mind. "Even if it means one of us doesn't make it to the finale?"
Sanders kept her casual tone. "Well, I mean, I assume I'll see you once the show is over."
"Yeah, but-"
"Duncan," Sanders chuckled. "Whatever happens, happens. Everything will be fine in the end. I promise."
Duncan felt himself ease up a little. He was about to exhale, when a thought struck. Fine? What does she mean by fine?
He stared blankly, as his thoughts raced around. Sanders stood up, unaware of Duncan's state. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom, I'll see you in a bit."
Duncan snapped back, and turned his attention to his girlfriend. "Oh, yeah. I'll...I'll be...I'll be waiting here for ya." He nervously smiled.
He watched Sanders walk into the lavatory. Once the door shut, he frowned.
"Uh-oh." Came a voice behind him.
Duncan shot his head back, as he recognized who was speaking. "What do you want, Jo?" He grunted.
"I heard what you guys were saying..." She said, with fake worry.
"Next time I want someone to eavesdrop on my conversations, I'll give you a call." He responded sarcastically.
Jo remained unphased. "Listen to me. I think your relationship is in it's first 'make or break' moment." She paused. She knew Duncan was listening, and left him waiting for a moment. "I agree with you. I think you should put your feelings aside, and focus on the challenge." She shot a finger at the Ex-Con's chest. "You've seen, first hand, how a lot of relationships, on this show, last. The short answer is: they never do. The longer you two stay in the game, the more you risk breaking up." She looked at him.
Duncan still didn't say anything, but Jo could tell he was really thinking about what was being said. "You-You're wrong." He finally blurted out, as his voice faltered.
Jo just shrugged. "Alright then. I don't care if you guys stay together or not. Just don't say I didn't warn you." She stood up and walked away. "But, don't worry, I'm sure everything will be...fine."
Duncan winced when she said that. He wanted to deny it, but with all his past relationships, he had no idea what the right thing to do was. He glanced at the lavatory, still deep in thought.
Jo, on the other hand, had dropped her act. With her back to the Ex-Con, she allowed herself to give a wide, devilish, grin.
Confessional (Jo): She sat smugly, pointing at her head. "And, once again, I prove that I am, without a doubt, a genius."
Static.
Soon, all the competitors had gathered at the dining area. Chris entered soon after. "Welcome competitors and congratulations on making it to the final five." Said competitors all grinned proudly. Though one wasn't as excited.
Confessional (Jo): "I said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't like to share things. I don't want any congratulations, if it seems someone else is also getting one. The next time McLean goes to congratulate me for something, it'll be when I win."
Static.
"We've got some time before we land," Chris continued. "So let's see just how you all got here." He walked up to the Twins. "Amy and Samey, I definitely did not see either of you ending up like this. From enemies to allies, you both have had quite the journey. Let's see how well it lasts." He turned to the next competitor. Amy put her arms around her sister's shoulder and grinned at her. Samey smiled too...through gritted teeth.
"Duncan," Chris chuckled. "I can safely say that I don't think anyone expected you to end up where you are. Not only did you fix your issues with Gwen and Courtney, but you also got a new girlfriend. One who's a cop." He started laughing. "I still can't get over that." He bent over, still guffawing with laughter.
Duncan rolled his eyes, and failed to notice Sanders giving him a small smirk. "Yeah…" He finally said, still not looking at his girlfriend. "I'm still gonna kick ass, no matter who gets in my way."
Sanders' smile fell to a puzzled look. She might've said something, but Chris stood back up. "As for you Sanders, you've done pretty well for yourself. After spending so much time with your partner, Macarthur, it's hard to imagine you, not only going on without out, but also possibly winning it on your own."
Sanders couldn't help but smirk proudly at this. She turned to Duncan, who gave her a nervous smile. Sanders was still confused, but didn't say anything.
"And now, for our last competitor." Chris turned to Jo. The Jockette had her hands to her hips, as she awaited the praise. "Jo, you-"
At that moment, the intercom buzzed. "Attention maggots," came Chef's voice. "We're gonna land in about five minutes. Sit down and strap in. This might not be a smooth landing."
The competitors gulped and immediately went to find a seat. Chris headed back to the pilot's chair.
Jo, on the other hand, stood in confusion. "What the hell, Chris? Where's my intro? You gave everyone else a..." She trailed off, as Chris had already walked out. The Jockette grumbled as she took her seat.
The McPlane was close to landing at its destination. The area was filled with stone structures and ruins. From a distance, there was a large cylinder structure with large gaps in it.
The camera flashed, revealing Chris, standing in front of the competitors. He was surrounded by stone ruins. Chris was wearing a white robe and a silver gladiator helmet. Chef was decked out in an armor chest plate, a red cape and a black leather skirt.
"Welcome to Rome," Chris announced, stretching his arms out. "Where the great gladiators dueled in one of the most amazing-"
"Didn't we already go to Italy?" Sanders interrupted.
Chris glared at her. "I wasn't done talking…"
"But we already know where we are," Samey spoke up. She pointed to the large cylinder structure. "That's the Coliseum."
"I know it's-"
"It's obvious that the challenge is gonna be gladiator themed," Jo cut in, also looking at the structure. "Why aren't we in there?"
"It's a national monument," Chris said. "I can't just go in and ask if I can-"
"When has that stopped you before," Duncan chuckled.
"Alright, enough!" Chris shouted angrily. "Because of you guys, I can't explain the history behind Rome and the epic gladiator fights they had back in the day. So, thanks a bunch for that." The five competitors looked at each other, and shrugged. "Fine by me," Jo said. The competitors nodded in agreement.
Chris pinched the bridge of his nose, and muttered something to himself. Chef stepped in and explained. "We're still doing the automatic eliminations. This one's gonna be different from the other two. There are five of you maggots left and, by the end of it, four will move on." He paused, letting the competitors prepare themselves.
Chris stepped in front of Chef, and continued where he left off. "You'll be competing in five challenges. For every one you win, you'll earn a point. The competitor with the most amount of points by the end, will win it all. The one with the least number of points, will be eliminated from the game."
The competitors nodded and Chris took them to the first challenge location.
Soon enough, Chris had all the competitors lined up next to each other. Some were focused and others were readying themselves. One, however, didn't seem all that focused.
Confessional (Duncan): He was scratching the back of his head. Something was definitely on his mind. "I hate to admit it," he sighed. "But Jo might've had somewhat of a point. I don't want to mess things up with Sanders." He dropped his arms and shrugged. "Maybe I should just focus on the challenge...and then once, it's over, we can hang out again." He nodded to himself and smirked slightly. However, it fell after a moment. "I really hope she's being honest about being cool about what I'm doing."
Static
Chef had just given the last competitor a large item for the challenge. "Since we don't have any chariots, our first challenge will be a wheelbarrow race!" Chris exclaimed. "Each of you has a wheelbarrow, and you must roll it through the ruins and across the finish line." He pointed at the designated race track, in front of them. It was littered with rocks and large, chipped off pieces of stone. At the end of it was the finish line.
"That pillar is your destination. First one to get there, earns the first point. Got it? Good. The challenge begins in 3…"
Samey looked over at her sister. "Follow me," She said quietly "I can get you through the ruins." Amy nodded.
"2…"
"Good luck." Sanders whispered to Duncan. He didn't respond and just stared forward.
"...1. Go!"
All five competitors took off. Amy trailed behind her sister as instructed. Jo saw what they were doing and immediately ran towards them. Sanders and Duncan were running side by side. "We never found out who won that race on the beach." Sanders joked. She looked over at the Ex-Con. Like before, he was intently staring forward. This time, the Cadet noticed. "Duncan?"
Is she testing me? He thought in panic. If I race her, she might get super competitive. What if she gets mad, if I win? His thoughts got the better of him, and he made a sharp left turn, away from the Cadet. Sanders watched him, confused.
Samey was still helping her sister get through the obstacles. She steered away from any ruins, and signaled for Amy to do the same. They had gotten through it fine, but were about to run into trouble.
Jo ran alongside Amy and gave her a menacing grin. "You're not winning this, Blondie!" She rammed her wheelbarrow into Amy's. The Twin stumbled, but kept running. Samey looked back and quickly tried to come up with a plan. She saw a half destroyed wall ahead, and got an idea. "Back up!" She called to her sister.
Amy didn't question it, and eased off Jo. Samey took her place and pushed against Jo's wheelbarrow with her own. "Oh, so you're the gutsy sister, now?" Jo rammed her wheelbarrow back into the Twin's. Samey faltered but stuck to her plan. She saw that Jo's eyes were squarely on her. They were nearing the wall. At that moment, Samey pushed her wheelbarrow hard against Jo's. This was enough for her to veer slightly. She looked forward, but it was too late. Her wheelbarrow slammed into the wall, and the momentum caused her to slam into the front bar, stomach first. She winced and fell on her knee. Samey sighed in relief and looked back. She was blocking Jo from going on, which left a narrow pathway between her and a pillar. It was just as she wanted, as Amy ran past them.
"And Amy crosses the finish line," Chris announced. "She gets the first point."
The Winning Twin came to a stop and grinned. Samey smiled at her. Jo was still clutching her stomach, but scowled at her. "You're pathetic." she insulted
Samey raised an eyebrow. "How am I-"
"Are you seriously gonna be like this the entire time? Some lackey to someone who should've been eliminated a long time ago?" She stormed off. "Try that again on me, and you'll find out what you're messing with."
Samey narrowed her eyes, as the Jockette walked away. Once she was certain no one was looking, her glare fell to a look of uncertainty.
With all the competitors recovered, Chris began explaining the second challenge. Chef held up a chart, with different pictures of coins, all varying in color and size. "Since I doubt any of you care about Rome's history with welfare, I'll explain this quickly." Chef tossed the chart to the side, as Chris pointed to the ground. The competitors looked and saw a bunch of coins around them. "This will be a coin collecting challenge. Pick up a coin, hold onto it, find another and bring them all back in about ten minutes. Each coin has a specific value. Some are worth a lot, some are worth very little, but all will help with your final score."
"How do we know which ones to pick up?" Sanders asked.
Chris shrugged. "I don't know…" He said sarcastically. "Maybe if you guys actually cared about what I said, I would actually feel motivated to tell you." He pulled out a whistle from his pocket. "You have ten minutes…" He blew it loudly.
As soon as he did, the competitors jumped to the ground and started picking up coins frantically. Amy and Samey collected their coins and put them in a pile. Jo dully watched the others and then walked off.
Sanders was looking at a silver coin and put it in one of her pockets. Then she turned her attention to something else. She could see Duncan, on the ground, also searching for coins. In fact, he seemed deeply focused on what he was doing. Sanders frowned.
Confessional (Sanders): "Am I going crazy, or is Duncan acting the same way he did before we were a couple?" She thought about what she said. "Maybe I should talk to him. I'm probably just over exaggerating."
Static
Duncan had just picked up a few bronze coins, when Sanders walked up to him. He didn't notice her at first, until he saw her feet. He quickly stood up. "Oh...hey." He cleared his throat. "What's up?"
Sanders noticed his nervous expression, but decided not to ask about it just yet. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a few coins. She held them up to him. "I found a few of these, if you want any. I can probably find a few more and, worst case scenario, I'll win in the next challenge."
Duncan looked down at the coins, then to his smiling girlfriend. Is this a test? He thought. He coughed awkwardly. "Um, thanks but...no thanks. Like I said, I wanna win this challenge by myself."
Sanders put her hand down, and raised an eyebrow. "Ok…" She sounded unsure. "Where exactly is this coming from? I haven't seen you this focused."
Duncan's mouth went dry. He didn't want to answer that question. Quickly, he came up with something. "I...I'll talk to you about it...after all the challenges are over." He nervously smiled.
Sanders was still confused, but shrugged. "I guess that makes sense." She put her coins away and playfully grinned at her boyfriend. "Don't start thinking I'll make this easy for you." She chuckled as she headed out.
Duncan laughed too, but it was very imposed.
Confessional (Duncan): He was rubbing his forehead, groaning in the process. "Like, seriously, is she testing me? I feel like I'm dating Courtney again. Is she gonna be mad at me if I find more coins than her?" He let out a groan of frustration.
Static
Soon enough, the challenge was over and Chris had called them all back. He first took note of Amy and Samey's haul. Amy had a handful of silver coins, while Samey had a handful of bronze ones. Chris looked at the twins weirdly. "Still playing second fiddle, eh Samey?" He chuckled lightly. Samey glared at him, before looking down at her coins, then to Amy's.
Next was Duncan and Sanders. Chris looked between the two's handfuls. Both had a healthy amount of bronze and silver coins. Once he was done, he glanced up at the couple and nodded. Duncan looked over at Sanders. She returned the look and smiled. This eased Duncan's tension a tad.
Last one in line was Jo. Chris immediately noticed the lack of coins in Jo's hands. "So...what were you doing all that time, Jo?"
The Jockette held up a balled fist. "The challenge, McLean. I figured going further out would have more valuable coins." She opened up her fingers and revealed her find. It was just two gold coins. Chris looked confused and picked one up. From behind him, Chef's eyes went wide and he pulled out a tablet and typed some stuff into it.
Chris continued eyeing the coins. "I'm...not sure where you found this, Jo. We didn't have any gold coins for the challenge, so I don't think I can-" Chef tapped him frantically on the arm. Chris turned and saw Chef holding the tablet up to his face. He looked at it and read it. After a few seconds, his jaw dropped. He looked down at the coins, then to Jo. He quickly put on a fake smile. "Congratulations, Jo. You found the secret coins we put in. They're worth the most out of any of them and finding both of them is an automatic win. So the challenge, and the next point, goes to you."
Jo grinned confidently. She turned to the other competitors. "You hear that, lesser beings? I'm ten steps ahead of all of you. You might as well give up now before I embarrass you any further." She cackled, while the competitors rolled their eyes.
While this was going on, Chris handed the golden coins to Chef. "Take these back to the plane, and put them in a place no one will find..." He whispered. "...and the next vacation will be in Malibu."
"More like the next ten." Chef muttered to himself, taking the coins and heading back to the McPlane.
While Chef was away, Chris had sent the interns into the ruins for an unknown reason. The competitors were grateful for the chance to rest and strategize. Soon enough, Chef had returned and handed something to Chris.
The Host stepped towards the competitors, with his hands behind his back. "You all should be familiar with this next challenge," Chef handed him a bow and a quiver, filled with arrows. Chris held them up for all to see. "It's an archery challenge!"
Sanders raised an eyebrow. "We already did that, though."
"You ruining out of ideas, McLean?" Jo mocked
Chris just smirked. "Not at all, my dear Jo." He tossed the quiver and bow to the Jockette, who caught it. Chef passed out others to the rest of the competitors, as Chris continued. "This will be quite different. Since you guys don't like it when I try to educate you, I won't go into the history of Romans and how important they were for the armies. In fact, they never actually used a lot of archers, until near the end of their reign." He suddenly realized something and laughed. "See? I just taught you guys something and it didn't kill you." The competitors remained unimpressed. Once he was done gloating, Chris went back to explaining. "The interns have set up a series of targets throughout the ruins, behind you. You have to find them and shoot an arrow at it. Hit three different targets and you win. Every arrow has a signal, and will notify us if you hit it. Also, you can not shoot a target that has already been used."
"Sounds easy enough." Duncan noted.
Chris pointed at him. "You're right, Duncan. It does." At that moment, Chef walked up to them. Behind him were five large brown horses. The competitors went wide eyed. "That's why you're going to shoot targets, while riding these horses." He leaned his arm against one of the animals. "If you get off of your horse, at any point, you'll be instantly disqualified." He clapped his hands together. "Alright, enough explaining. Everyone get on."
Soon, all the competitors were on their horses. They all had their quivers and bows and were ready. Though one looked a little unsure.
"Hey, Chris?" Samey called. The host walked up, next to her. "Weird question, but are these horses actually robots? Like back on Pahkitew?"
Chris laughed nervously. "What? No, of course not. I wouldn't...I wouldn't do that again." He gripped tightly onto the thing, behind his back. A remote control.
Not wanting to answer any more questions, he abruptly announced the start of the challenge. Sanders, Jo and Duncan quickly took off, on their horses. Samey had done the same, but when she looked back, she stopped. Amy had been struggling to stay upright on her horse and was moving at a snail's pace. Samey turned back and watched the other three go off. She wanted to follow, but didn't think it was the right thing to do. With a sigh, she turned the horse and went back for her sister.
As the horses galloped forward, the competitors looked around for the targets. They didn't see them immediately, but did eventually spot some of them. Jo saw one attached to a pillar. Grinning, she reached back and pulled out an arrow. Then, she readied her bow and aimed. But before she could release it, an arrow shot past her. It struck the target right in the center.
Jo gaped and turned to see who the shooter was.
"Nice shot, don't ya think?" Duncan mocked, running by her side.
Jo glared and was about to say something, but Chris cut her off. "Duncan hits the first target and earns the first point. Remember, hit three targets and you win."
Duncan continued to grin smugly at his rival. Jo grunted and turned a sharp corner, away from the Ex-Con. Duncan watched her go, and continued forward.
"That was a good shot."
Duncan jumped slightly and glanced to the side.
"You might have the lead," Sanders said. "But it's not gonna last."
The Cadet wasn't being serious, but, to Duncan, he had no idea. His mouth suddenly felt dry again and he struggled to speak. Sanders noticed and was about to ask, when the Ex-Con suddenly picked up his reins, and the horse galloped away from the Cadet. Sanders watched him leave.
Confessional (Sanders): "Maybe when he really was insisting about focusing on the challenge...he really meant it." She shrugged. "That makes sense. Still, it's weird to see him like this."
Way back, Amy and Samey were trodding along on their horse. Samey looked immensely bored, as she was forced to stick by her sister. She needs my help. She kept telling herself.
Eventually, they came across a target, on a pillar. Samey turned to Amy, and pointed at it.
"I've got it," Amy declared, reaching for her arrow. She struggled to grab it from behind her back. Samey sighed and grabbed one of her own.
"Use this one." She said.
Amy smiled and took it. She aimed it and fired it at the target. However, her aim was completely off and the arrow out of sight. She looked embarrassed, but Samey handed her another. She fired again and...well, the same thing happened. Samey was about to hand her another, when her sister got an idea.
She took off the quiver and held it out to Samey. "You shoot it." Samey raised an eyebrow, so Amy explained. "Chris said that every arrow that hits the target, will give off a signal. It doesn't matter who shoots it, I'll still get the point because it's my arrow."
Samey stared at her sister's arrow, but didn't say anything. She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it. Without another word, she took the arrow and, using her bow, shot it at the target. It landed directly in the center. A few seconds later, they heard Chris' voice.
"Looks like Duncan has some competition. Amy is on the board now. The rest of you better step up soon."
Amy grinned and looked towards her sister. "Nice shot," she held up her hand, for a high-five.
Samey stared blankly at it, for a few seconds. A small smile crept across her face, and she returned it. Though, once Amy went ahead, Samey looked down at her hand.
Now that he was by himself, Duncan had a much better time focusing. He and his horse ran past the ruins, looking for any signs of the next target. But despite all of that, his thoughts kept going back to Sanders. He tried to shake it off, but it persisted. He glanced to his left. Maybe I went a little too far. He thought. Maybe I'm overreacting over this whole thing. The Ex-Con sighed and turned his attention back to finding a target
When he saw one, near the top of a stone structure, he readied his arrow. He shot it, and hit the center. Chris announced it and that he was one shot away from winning. The Ex-Con grinned to himself, before turning his attention back to the challenge. He snapped the reins and his horse picked up speed. Soon enough, he had found another. He was ready-ing his bow and was about to release the arrow, when something flew by him.
He nearly jumped off the horse and was forced to pull back on the reins. The horse came to a stop, as Duncan tried to process what happened. Then something caught his eye. The target he was just aiming at, now had an arrow in it.
"How-" He was quickly cut off.
Sanders suddenly pulled up next to him, with a wide grin. Duncan was too stunned to say anything, so she spoke first. "Told you I'm not going to make it easy." She winked.
Before Duncan could even register a response, Chris' voice cut him off. "And it looks like Sanders and Duncan are now tied. Both of them just need one more arrow and one of them will win."
The Ex-Con went wide eyed and turned back to his girlfriend. "Wait, when did you get the first target?"
Chris' voice came on again. "Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Sanders hit another target earlier. She has two points."
Duncan stared, mouth hanging open. Sanders chuckled. "Don't worry. I'll go easy on you in the next round." With that, she whipped the reins and shot forward on her horse. Now Duncan (and his horse) was left alone, still processing what just happened.
Jo mumbled a curse, as she heard the announcement. She hadn't seen a target since breaking away from Duncan. She decided it was time to step up her game. As she galloped past the ruins, she kept a steady eye for another target. She could see one on the top of a pillar. She pulled on the reins and the horse stopped. Then she pulled out her bow and arrow and aimed. After a quick calculation, she let it loose. It struck the center with a THWUCK.
"And Jo is now on the board," Chris announced.
The Jockette grinned and pumped her arm up. But in the process of celebrating, she accidentally kicked the side of her horse.
"Ow," She winced. She leaned over to rub her leg. Then she realized something. Lightly, she tapped the same spot with her foot. It sounded like metal.
Wait a minute, she thought. Metal? Horses don't have metal in them. Unless… She thought back to when one of the twins asked a question about the horses. It's not a real horse. It's a… Her expressions slowly turned to a grin. It's a machine.
With that in mind, she started running her hand around the robotic creature. When she reached the mane, she felt something. Bingo. She pushed the hair aside and revealed a small panel. Her grin only widened.
Confessional (Jo): "Did I need to cheat to win? Probably not. But, hey, if the opportunity presents itself, you bet your pasty bottom I'm gonna take it."
Static
Jo opened the panel. She could see various nobs, switches and buttons on the inside. "Alright," she said to herself. "Time for an upgrade." She played around with some of the controls, until she figured she had done enough. She closed the panel and looked at the horse. It didn't look any different than before, but Jo figured that would change in a sec.
"HIYAH, Horse!" She shouted, whipping the reins. As soon as she did that, the horse bolted forward at a tremendous speed. Too much for the Jockette. She struggled to stay upright and was barely able to avoid the pillars and rocks. With the horse practically moving at mach speed, it was safe to say that Jo was already regretting her decision to mess with the controls.
Crap, crap, crap… She thought in panic. The Jockette was in for the ride of her life.
Duncan had snapped out of his daze and caught up with Sanders. Now he really was focused on the challenge. The two raced around the ruins, on their horses, looking for the last target.
Sanders was ahead of him and, while she was concentrating on finding the target, something else was on her mind.
Confessional (Sanders): She sighed. "Maybe I should also try putting my attention on the challenge. I mean, if I don't win soon, I'll risk getting eliminated." She paused. "Yet again, Duncan doesn't have a point either, but I guess it would be in poor taste to just hand him the win. I don't want us to become Gwen and Trent 2.0." She shuddered
Static
The two continued racing, with the Cadet holding a narrow lead. Finally, they could see a target near the top of a pilar. Sanders started reaching for her arrow. Duncan watched nervously. The best chance he had at getting a good shot was if he stopped. But Sanders was already aiming the bow, so he knew that wouldn't help.
Sanders had her shot lined up, when an almighty crash sounded in the distance. It was enough to break the Cadet's concentration and she dropped the arrow. With her stumble the horse veered left and out of sight. Duncan, having also heard the loud sound, quickly regained his senses. With his girlfriend out of sight, he pulled back on the reins and the horse stopped. Wasting no time, he took an arrow out of the quiver and placed it on the bow. He glanced around, making sure no one was near him, and he aimed. Once the target was in sight, he shot it. It sailed towards the target and...landed right above the middle. Duncan let out a sigh of relief.
After a few seconds of breathing, he grinned widely. "LET'S GO!" He shouted, pumping up his fist. In the process of celebrating, he accidently kicked a secret button on the robot horse. The mechanical creature's eyes widened and glowed red. With a sudden jerk, it kicked its hind legs back. Duncan was nearly thrown off, but held on. Once he was sure it wouldn't do it again, he sighed in relief.
Then he heard what sounded like a groan. Confused, he turned around and went pale. It probably would've helped to see what was behind him because there was Sanders and her horse. However, The Cadet was no longer on her horse. She was laying on the ground, on her side next to it, rubbing her elbow. The Cadet winced as she tried to move it.
It didn't take a lot of thinking to figure out how The Cadet ended up on the ground. Confessional (Duncan): He looked more guilty than he ever had before. "When- When did she get behind me?"
Static.
Soon, all the horses were away, Chris had brought the competitors back. Jo had yet to return. He had a clipboard with a piece of paper on it. "Alright, Duncan obviously won by hitting three targets and earns a point." The Ex-Con grinned, but when he saw his girlfriend holding an icepack on her shoulder, he immediately stopped. Chris continued. "Sanders came in a close second with two, Amy and Jo (wherever she is) both got one point," He looked up at the remaining competitor. "Which leaves little ole' Samey with...nothing."
The Twin blushed and looked down at the ground. Chris shook his head. "You gotta get a point soon, otherwise you'll risk elimination."
Samey gulped. Then she glanced at her sister.
"Alright, as soon as Jo gets back, we can start the next challenge. Has anyone-" He was interrupted when he heard footsteps. Chris turned towards her, and suddenly went wide eyed. The other competitors looked equally as shocked.
There was Jo, alright, but she looked a bit different. Her sweatshirt was covered in dust and its sleeves were shredded. Her pants didn't look any better. She had scratches on her face and her hair was a mess. And, to top it all off, she was holding something. It was a horse's head, with half of its exterior removed, exposing the mechanical body on the inside. It was oozing oil and let out an occasional spark.
The competitors continued to stare, in amazement. Jo saw it, and shrugged. "I guess your robo-horse couldn't handle me, McLean. Better send it back to the warehouse." She tossed the head to the host.
Chris didn't have enough time to react. The metal head hit him in the chest and he fell to the ground. He groaned. The other four competitors forgot to be surprised, and instead decided to laugh at Chris' misfortune.
He glared at them, then turned his attention to the Jockette, who was also chuckling. "Well Jo," He broke out into a sly grin. "I'm glad you find enjoyment in my embarrassment. I say that, because you won't be laughing in this next challenge. I can guarantee it."
Jo suddenly stopped snickering, as did the others. What did Chris have in mind?
"You've got to be kidding me?" Duncan complained.
"This is what you had in mind?" Jo added.
"I can barely move." Amy complained
Chris just grinned as he reveled in the sounds of misery. "I figured you guys would enjoy this challenge…" It was soon revealed what it was. The five competitors stood in a line, similar to the wheelbarrow race. However, all of them were decked out, from head to toe, in Roman armor. They had metal plates on their chests, arms and legs. They also had large helmets, covering most of their faces, except for their eyes, nose and mouth.
"Holy crap, this weighs a ton," Duncan groaned. As if to emphasize what he said, he tried raising his right arm. He struggled and his face strained. He held it up, but it was incredibly shaky.
"I'm glad you like it, Duncan." Chris chuckled. "This challenge will be a simple race to the finish." He pointed at the finish line, in the distance. "But, obviously, it's gonna be a lot harder that I'm making it out to be."
"Gee, I wonder why." Jo grumbled. "Let's just get this over with, I'm ready to smoke these losers."
As soon as Chris blew his whistle to start the challenge, the competitors sped forward. But, predictably, they weren't moving that fast. However, their grunts were silenced by the sounds of clanking metal, from the tight as hell armor. A minute had gone by, and they had only moved about a few feet.
Duncan looked over at his girlfriend.
Confessional (Duncan): "I don't know what to do. There's only two challenges left, and if Sanders doesn't win either of them, she might be out." He sighed. "I could let her win...but that's exactly what happened with Gwen and Trent and…" He cringed. "...we all know how that ended."
Static
Duncan thought for a moment and, remembering what happened at the end of the last challenge, decided to back up a little. Sanders didn't notice, thankfully.
Amy, like the others, was struggling to move in the heavy armor. "Alright, Sis' I got an idea." She said, still looking forward. "If you can block Duncan and Sanders, I can get ahead and then..." She trailed off, as Samey was passing her. The Twin had been able to gain some momentum, and was slowly picking up speed. Amy grinned as she headed towards the couple.
But instead of going in front of them, Samey just went forward. Sanders noticed her, and tried getting in front of her. Samey saw what she was doing and tried to go around. They were nearing the finish line.
The armor made turning a lot harder. Because of this, Samey couldn't get around the Cadet in time. She ended up slamming into the back of Sanders. The Cadet grunted, but tried to keep a forward pace. Samey tried pushing herself forward, but Sanders was fighting back. They were only a few steps away from the finish line.
Samey put her foot ahead and tried, again, to push Sanders to the side. The Cadet, on the other hand, wasn't about to let that happen. She picked her foot up and moved it around the Twin's. This proved to be a mistake because the armor was still weighing her down. She didn't get it high enough, and hit Samey in the back of her leg. The Twin felt the hit and kneeled slightly. The impact caused her to start falling forward. But, in the process of falling, her arm hit Sanders in the back and pushed her. . Now she was about to be dragged down too.
Duncan winced, as he saw what was about to happen. With a thunderous crash, Sanders and Samey hit the ground, crossing the finish line in the process. This was followed by loud groaning. Neither of them had the strength to move.
"Chef, you better get them out of the armor." Said Chris. "I'm gonna go check the tapes and see who crossed first." With that, he walked off.
Chef, and a few interns, did as they were instructed and went to the competitors. Once the armor was off, Samey stood up and stretched her arms. She looked up at her sister, who was still having her plates removed. She didn't look happy. "What the heck was that? That wasn't the plan."
Samey stared, confused. "If I didn't win this challenge, I'd risk being eliminated."
Amy gave a disapproving look (as best she could). "We had a deal," She reminded. "You're supposed to help me win.
Samey stammered. "I- But- If- But I can't-" Not able to come up with a response, she sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry. Whatever happens, I'll make sure you win the next challenge."
Amy looked at her disapprovingly, but eventually nodded and even managed a small smile.
Duncan watched, as his girlfriend started to get up. He had yet to have his armor removed. The Cadet stopped to stretch. She had her back to the Ex-Con, which just made him worry. Now, without the ability to see her face, Duncan had no idea what she was thinking. He wanted to talk to her, but held his tongue.
By the time most of the competitors had their armor removed, Chris had returned. "Alright, so I have the results." Samey and Sanders turned to him, eager to hear the winner. "It looks like the first person to cross the finish line was...Sanders." The Cadet balled her fist, in celebration, as Samey sighed. "...And Samey." Chris finished. The Twin went wide-eyed, as did Sanders. Chris just grinned. "That's right. Both of you crossed the finish line at the same time, so you both get a point."
Sanders and Samey looked at each other and shrugged. Chris wasn't finished though. "So, because of this, everyone now has one point, leading into the final challenge. So, whoever wins the last one, will win the entire thing." He let the competitors think about what that meant, until suddenly realizing something. "What happened to Jo, by the way?"
The competitors looked at each other, all wondering the same thing. Then they turned around, and tried to stifle a laugh. Despite Jo's readiness to win the challenge, she had not gone far. She had only gotten a few feet, when she tripped over a rock and fell to the ground. There she lay, face down, trying, and failing, to get up. The interns were too busy laughing to help her. Despite her muffled voice, Jo had been throwing furious insults at all of them.
With a quick flash of white, the competitors were gathered around a circular ring of stone. Chef had placed small devices around it. He pushed a button on a controller and the devices shot beams of fire. The competitors were intrigued.
One cannon shot fire, right in front of them. It blocked their vision of the ring, and they all turned away. But when the fire died down, a figure was standing in the center of the ring. It was wearing a metal chest plate and a helmet that covered part of his face. It looked over at the competitors, as it reached up to take off the helmet. The competitors were actually starting to get excited...until it was revealed who the person was.
"My name is Chris McLean," The Host said dramatically, as the fires roared around him. "Host of Total Drama, winner of several Gemmie Awards, master of disaster, voted most likely to be on TV in high school, way better than any three-letter named, one season wannabe host and I am here to present you with the ultimate five way tie breaker challenge!" He raised his arms up, and the flames slowly died down.
The competitors watched on, looking like they didn't care. Chef came by and handed them swords and shields. Chris turned to them. "For this challenge, you're all gonna fight to the bitter end. It's all about one thing here. Last. Competitor. Standing!"
Sanders looked at her sword, slightly unnerved. "So, are you actually gonna make us stab each other with these things."
Chris rolled his eyes. "Don't worry, they're plastic. I almost got sued once already, so I'm not about to breach the contract a second time."
Sanders suddenly felt something hit her in the back. She looked behind her. Chef had been placing some sort of mechanism on each of the competitor's backs. Chris explained. "If you get hit by a sword, the sensor will go off. That means you'll be eliminated. If you've been eliminated, and you hit another competitor with your sword, you'll lose a point." He paused, signaling to the competitors to enter the arena. They did so and took their places around the circle. Chris grinned at the camera. "The game will end when only one competitor remains. So...let's get to it!"
After a few tense seconds of the competitors casting glances at each other. Amy looked over at her sister, and the two nodded. Duncan was eyeing Sanders, and only her. I hope she's not mad at me. He thought. After all we've been through, I don't want to end this because of a stupid horse. He grunted and looked down at the ground.
Suddenly a loud horn blared out. Duncan was shaken from his thoughts and he looked up. Thinking quickly, he held the sword out in front of him. That proved to be a mistake. Jo saw it and rushed him, from the side. Duncan noticed, too late.
"Adios, Cop Lover!" She grinned. She raised her sword, and brought it down towards him. Duncan tried to block it, but knew it was too late. Suddenly, inches away from being hit, Duncan saw another sword block Jo's. The Jockette and the Ex-Con were surprised and turned. Sanders pushed her sword against Jo's. Duncan watched them, as they moved away.
Confessional (Duncan): "Ok, she's trying to protect me. I guess that's a good sign." He paused, thinking to himself. "Or...is this another test?"
Static.
The Ex-Con ran towards the two and attempted to intervene. Sanders saw him. "Duncan? What are you doing? You can get the twins." She dodged a parry from Jo and quickly stepped to the side.
Duncan tried to get involved, but they were moving too much. "It's alright. I'm your boyfriend. I can help you. You don't need to do this yourself."
Sanders pushed her sword against Jo's again. But she gave a confused look. "What? What are you-"
Suddenly, Jo stepped back and turned around. Duncan didn't have time to react and failed to dodge Jo's swing. She struck him in the side. The Ex-Con's sensor made a shrill beeping sound, which meant one thing. "Oh man! Duncan's the first one eliminated." Chris announced. "Gotta say, I didn't see that coming."
Duncan groaned, and looked up at his girlfriend. She looked surprised. Jo took her chance, and ran up to the Cadet. She readied herself for another duel, but Jo quickly stopped. "You and I need to team up."
Sanders was prepared for a sword fight, so shook her head to make sure she heard things right. "What? Why would I do that?"
"It's down to you, me and the Twins. They're obviously going to gang up on us. We'll have a better chance if we team up."
Sanders still looked flabbergasted. "You- You just eliminated my boyfriend. I'm not helping you." Duncan had turned and stepped outside the circle, so hadn't heard her.
Jo shuddered, but quickly put aside her feelings. "Look, if we don't do this, you're gonna-"
At that moment, Jo felt something hit her in the back. She jumped and quickly turned around. But with Samey pointing a sword in her direction, and her sensor going off, it wasn't hard to realize what happened. Sanders saw the opportunity and quickly ran towards the Twin. Samey saw it coming and blocked her first strike. Sanders swung again and Samey, once more, stopped it.
The two pushed their swords against each other. Sanders then realized something and looked over. Despite their advantage, Amy had chosen to stay behind her sister. She's protecting her Sanders deducted. Now I just need to even things up. The Cadet swung her foot clockwise and turned herself around. The sudden shift caused Samey to stumble forward. Amy realized what was going on, and held up her sword. Sanders feigned going right, which the Twin reacted to. Sanders then jumped left and swung her sword, hitting Amy in the arm. The sensor went off, as she groaned.
Sanders didn't waste a single second, and turned back to face her remaining challenger. Amy, on the other hand, didn't leave just yet. She watched her sister and Sanders battle it out. She thought for a moment, before coming up with a plan.
Sanders blocked and pushed against another strike, causing Samey to step back. Sanders saw the opportunity and raised her sword above her head. Samey was nervous and unsure what her next move should be. Then Sanders felt something grab her wrist. In surprise, she tried to swing her sword, but her arm wouldn't budge. She turned and saw what it was. "What the-"
Amy was holding onto The Cadet's wrist, with both hands. She turned to Samey. "Do it, Sis!"
Samey went wide eyed and realized what she had to do. She ran forward and readied her sword. Sanders was finally able to pull herself free, but it was too late. She tried blocking Samey's strike, but the Twin suddenly jumped to the side and struck the Cadet in the shoulder.
"And the winner of the tiebreaker is...Samey!" Chris shouted.
Sanders' sigh was drowned out by the sound of her sensor. Samey was still catching her breath, but managed a smile. Amy ran up to her. "Good job. If I couldn't win, I'm glad you did." Samey returned a smile and the both high-fived.
Jo marched towards Chris. "What kind of bull was that?" She pointed at Amy. "She interfered in the challenge. Why didn't she lose a point?"
The Host shrugged. "Well, technically, Amy didn't break any rules. I only said she couldn't use her sword after being eliminated. She only used her hands." Jo grumbled, as she watched the twins celebrate.
Duncan let out a sigh of relief. He looked over at Sanders, who was still annoyed at losing. He was glad the challenge was finally over, but after all that had happened, he wasn't sure if he still wanted to talk with Sanders.
Once he was back on the plane, Duncan took a seat on the loser bench. He looked up and watched the entrance. First came the Twins. Amy had an arm around her sister's shoulder and was praising her for winning. Jo was next. She had a very familiar scowl plastered on her face. She hardly noticed The Ex-Con, and he was glad for it. The last person to enter, of course, was Sanders.
Duncan stood up to greet her, and her face immediately lit up upon seeing him. Duncan tried returning it, but it looked very forced. Just get over it. Just get over it. He told himself. "Hey…" He said awkwardly.
"Hey." Sanders responded casually.
Duncan scratched the back of his head. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about the whole horse thing."
Sanders smiled warmly. "That's alright. Accidents happen."
The Ex-Con chuckled nervously.
Confessional (Duncan): "Alright, either she's not actually mad at me or...she's pissed."
Static
"So," Duncan continued. "Are you...still ok with me focusing on the game?"
Sanders gave him a weird look. "Yeah…" She said, unsurely. "We already went over that."
The Ex-Con nodded. "That's good. Because…like I said, I'm not gonna hold back."
"That's fine by me."
Duncan's eye twitched. Fine. Fine. Fine. His thoughts echoed. He had to force himself not to do anything rash.
Sanders noticed his strained face. "Duncan, are you alright?"
The Ex-Con snapped into focus, and forced a smile. "I'm f-" He stopped suddenly, realizing what he was about to say.
His girlfriend raised an eyebrow. "You're...fine?"
That did it.
"Stop saying that!" Duncan snapped.
Sanders nearly jumped back. Defensively, she put her hands up. "Saying what?"
"The F-word: Fine! Whenever that word has been used around me, something has gone wrong."
"But nothing's wrong..." Sanders objected, trying to calm him down.
Duncan took a step forward and pointed at her. "Every time someone has told me that something's fine, it never ended well. Before All-Stars, Gwen told me everything was fine, and you know where that ended up? She dumped me. Whenever my parents talked about me, my Mom kept saying that 'everything was fine.' Guess what? It wasn't fine. Hell, I kept telling myself that everything was fine when I was dating Courtney. Not a good idea, in hindsight. So, forgive me for having a little bit of trust issues when someone says 'everything...is...fine."
Silence followed, aside from Duncan's heavy breathing. Sanders looked at him, mouth partly hanging open. She struggled to speak. "I'm...I'm sorry, Duncan. I didn't know that word bothered you. Had I realized, I never would've said it."
Duncan was still a little hot from his outburst, but he tried to calm down. "It's...it's ok. You never would've known unless I…" His eyes widened, as he had a moment of realization. "...unless I actually said something about it, in the first place." He sighed and glanced up at her. "Sorry."
Sanders nodded. "It's...It's alright. I understand." The two stood in silence again, until Sanders chuckled. "You must've really liked the drama from your other relationships. So much so, you actually had to create your own, for this one." She started laughing.
Duncan couldn't help but smile, and he joined her. After a few more seconds, the two calmed down and stared at each other. "Alright," Duncan said, holding his arms out. "I owe you a hug."
Sanders beamed and happily accepted it. Once they embraced, The Ex-Con actually tightened his hold. In that moment, he suddenly felt a lot of his worries wash away. He sighed contentedly. I'm an idiot. He jokingly thought.
Confessional (Sanders): She groaned. "That would've been the perfect chance for a kiss. We've just made up over a disagreement that...I didn't even know we were having, look into each other's eyes and, boom." She thought for a second, before shrugging. "Maybe I should save it for a bigger moment. Hopefully that'll be sooner rather than later."
Static
Later, the remaining five competitors were gathered at the elimination ceremony room. Chris and Chef were standing near the exit hatch. Needless to say, no one knew what was going on.
"So what exactly are we doing here?" Jo finally asked. "Tweedle-dee obviously won, so what happens to the rest of us?"
Chris smirked. "Good question, Jo." He nodded to Chef, who opened the exit door. "Since all of you tied for second place, it means all four of you are going home right now."
Duncan, Sanders, Amy, Jo and, even Samey, all went wide eyed and hung onto the bench. "Wait, what?!" They said in unison.
Chris struggled not to break, but burst into laughter. He signaled to Chef to close the door. Once the wind had died down, the competitors breathed a sigh of relief. "Obviously that's not the case." Chris explained. "But I couldn't resist the chance to do that."
"Hilarious." Duncan deadpanned.
"Now since she won the challenge, Samey will have an important decision to make. So I need her to come up here."
"How do I know you're not gonna shove me off of the plane?" She asked cautiously.
Chris sighed, annoyed. "It's in my contract. Just get over here and we can get things going." Samey looked unsure, but decided it was best to do as instructed. Reluctantly, she got up and walked towards Chris. "Samey, I'll be honest, we were kinda hoping for a tiebreaker like this. It wouldn't have been fun if we sent someone home, just like that." He paused. "So...like a true gladiator. You are going to decide the fate of one of these losers." He looked at the other competitors. "And by that, I mean you're gonna pick who we get to kick off the plane."
The competitors, including Samey, all gasped at this. Once the shock settled down, they all had different reactions. Sanders and Duncan nervously glanced at each other. Amy sat confidently, with her arms crossed. Jo, despite her neutral face, was actually shaking.
Samey thought for a moment, before looking at Chris. "So you're letting me decide today's elimination?"
Chris gave her a weird look. "Yeah...that's what I just said."
Samey turned back to the competitors and stared at them. She exhaled through her nose and raised her finger. "Alright, I pick-"
"Hold it." Chris jumped in front of her. "You can't just make a decision like this and treat it like it's no big deal. We need some drama. Some intensity. If you wanna do this, do it right. You're ending the journey for someone here, make it a big deal."
Samey thought for a moment, before nodding. Chris stepped aside and watched. Samey took a few seconds to look at everyone. She could see all their nervous faces, minus her sister's.
She slowly raised her finger. "The person going home today is…"

Sanders watched nervously. Suddenly she felt something warm wrap around her fingers. She glanced down to see what it was. Duncan was now tightly holding her hand. He was dead focused on the Twin and was sweating bullets. She gave a small smile, and tightened the grip on her boyfriend's hand. Taking note of his face, she could see him easing up slightly.
Samey brought her hand up, and closed her eyes. She pointed at the person she chose to eliminate. And it was…

"...Amy."
At that moment, Duncan, Sanders and Jo all let out a collective sigh of relief. However, almost immediately, realization struck them. They all turned towards the newly eliminated competitor. Surprisingly, she still had her smug grin. But it didn't last. After a few seconds, it suddenly dawned on her. Her mouth slowly fell open, and she stammered. She shook her head, like she was still processing what just happened. "I- Wai- Wha-" She suddenly stopped, and stood up. "What did you just say?"
Samey put her hand down, and stared blankly at her sister. Amy walked down the bleachers and walked right up to Samey. "Tell me this is some sick joke, right now." She snarled. Samey didn't respond. Amy's mouth fell open again and she stepped back. "I can't believe you. Why the hell would you pick me to go home?"
"I did what I had to do," Samey said quietly. "I didn't want to, but-"
"Bull crap," Amy snapped. "You were probably thinking about it the entire time."
That made Samey a little angry and she looked defiantly at her sister. "That's a lie. This was the hardest decision I ever had to make. I don't want to have to be underhanded to win this game."
"We had a deal," Amy said coldly.
Something in Samey snapped. She shot a finger at her sister, and spoke angrily. "Well, you know what?! I don't want out relationship to be fixed because of a stupid deal."
"Who said our relationship was fixed?" Amy shot back.
"So, you didn't enjoy the time we spent together?" Samey asked, stepping back.
Amy opened her mouth, but didn't say anything. She tried to, but nothing came out.
"You can't buy this kind of drama." Chris, who was intently watching the sisters, whispered to Chef. His co-host, who was suddenly holding a bucket of popcorn, nodded in agreement.
"Well…" Amy finally said. "You blew that chance of us ever being sisters again, Spare-Amy." She walked forward, intentionally bumping into Samey.
The non-eliminated Twin watched her. "I don't think I did," Samey said, as Amy went to get her parachute. "I think you want to be sisters again...like when we were little." Amy suddenly froze, inches away from grabbing the chute out of Chef's hand. Samey continued. "I do too, Amy. I really do. Ever since I made the agreement, I've loved spending time with you." She paused, almost choking on her words. "But I can't just let everything else go. I shouldn't. It isn't right." She stared at her sister, who still hadn't moved. "It shouldn't be this easy to just forget everything that happened to us. Everything that you did to me. And I think you want, more than anything, to go back to the way things were." She paused again, thinking about what to say next. "I'm willing to talk to you, Amy. Once all this is over. Heck, I'm willing to forgive you for everything you've ever done to me. Every awful thing that will stay with me for the rest of my life...and I want to talk to you about it all. I don't wanna pretend everything is alright...because I know it isn't." she took a deep breath and exhaled. "But, at the same time, if you don't want to do any of that...I'm...I'm willing to accept that."
The competitors behind her, as well as Chris and Chef, stared in stunned silence. You could cut the tension with a knife, it was so uncomfortable. Samey looked at her sister. She hadn't moved at all. She just faced forward. Samey almost wished she could see her face. But, at the same time, she didn't. Finally, after another long couple of seconds, Amy took the parachute and walked to the door. Chef, unsure of what to do, opened it. The gusts of wind roared, but Amy kept staring forward. Without another word, she jumped out of the plane.
Chef closed the door and locked it. The silence that followed was deafening. No one knew what to say. Samey suddenly collapsed onto her knees. Her speech took a lot out of her. She stared sadly at the ground, but didn't cry. She made a promise to a friend that she wouldn't.
Jo broke the silence. "Hey, congrats on growing a spine, Blondie. I just wish it were me to toss her out." She laughed rudely. Duncan and Sanders remained respectfully silent and walked out of the room.
Chris walked up to the collapsed Twin, scratching the back of his head. "Well, I was definitely not expecting that...but, in any case, you still win the challenge. And because of that, you'll be spending your time in first class, until our next destination. What do ya think of that, Sammy?"
Sammy sighed, still unsure if she made the right decision or not. But her thoughts were cut off, once she realized something. She looked up at Chris. "Did...did you just call me...Sammy?"
The Host shrugged. "I mean, it makes no sense to call you by your nickname anymore, now that your sister's gone. The fun of it kinda goes away,"
Sammy stood up, trying to register what was going on. On one hand, she still felt bad about what she did to her sister, but...she couldn't help but be overcome with a sense of delight at being referred to by her actual name. Sammy she thought. He just called me Sammy. Her look of shock broke out into a small grin. She couldn't help it and, momentarily, forgot what just happened.
But, like a bulldozer to a bed of roses, Chris had to ruin the moment. Uncaringly, he pushed the Twin out of frame. He looked at the camera. "In possibly, one of the most dramatic endings to an episode, the newly named Sammy chose to vote off her own sister. What repercussions will this have? What does this mean for the rest of the competitors? They better be focused because next episode will be like no other. We have a few surprises in store for these gals and guy, and we can't wait to see the looks on their faces. Tune in for another exciting episode of Total...Drama...Legends!"
The camera fades to black.
I struggled with this chapter for a bit. I was worried it was going to be too long, but I'm content with what I have. The other thing was Duncan's behavior. I debated if it was in character and I came to the conclusion that it was. I think he would be slightly paranoid about his relationship, especially with all the drama surrounding his history with his exes. I'll let you be the judge of it too.
Now to talk about Amy. I'm really curious what everyone thought about that. I loved reading all the predictions that people had in their relationship. I think I originally had Samey tricking her sister, as an early idea. I think this was a better choice overall. It was fun to explore their relationship, even though I'm not done JUST yet. I was never planning on fixing their relationship, in this story. Like Sammy said, it was too easy.
Next chapter...oh, boy. The next chapter is one I've been looking forward to writing for a while. Pretty much since I started. What do I have planned? Is it something big? Something that changes the storyline completely? Something that has never been done before? Or am I just overhyping, and it's actually nothing? I have (sort of) hinted at what I have planned, in other chapters. Regardless, I'm still really excited to get this one out.
Have a good one!
