"Ali, hand me the bottle," Spencer demanded, reaching out to grab the bottle from her intoxicated friend.
Alison hid the bottle behind her back, holding it away from Spencer, "back off."
She quickly walked over to Hanna and plopped down beside of her on the over-sized cushioned chair. "She's trying to take our wine."
Hanna waved her index finger at the brunette, "you can't take our wine. It's in our religion, Spencer. Jesus drank wine."
Spencer rolled her eyes, "that's not what—never mind it doesn't even matter at this point. I need a glass or two myself now." She had been trying to get Hanna and Alison to slow down on the wine for about an hour now, but both girls were making it increasingly difficult to do so as the night progressed.
Aria stood up with Spencer, "I think I'll second that motion." Paige followed Spencer and Aria, she needed a drink after being around Alison the last hour. She would never choose to be around Alison in her free time if it wasn't for her girlfriend. "Yeah me too if that's okay."
"Of course, we have plenty. They parents are lawyers, I think wine is how they survive," Spencer said while disappearing in the house with Paige and Aria.
Alison slid her eyes to Emily when Paige was gone. The brunette had barely said two sentences to her since she and Paige had arrived tonight. Typically, it was Alison who had Emily's attention when they were all together, and the sudden change wasn't setting well with the blonde. Sure, she knew why. Emily's girlfriend was there. But it was her who Emily had just kissed hours ago. She knew it meant something to Emily. It had to.
When Alison saw that Emily's eyes fell on her legs, she couldn't hold back her smirk. Emily still thinking about her when her girlfriend was here was... well, wrong.. she knew that but God it was hot.
Emily's gaze drifted to Alison's eyes and when they met she cleared her throat. It only made Alison's smirk widen watching Emily's checks flush getting caught checking out the blonde. "I think I'm going to go get a drink," Emily stated as she stood.
"Sneak me and Ali another bottle of wine!" Hanna pleaded.
"I'm with Spencer on this one, sorry Han."
Hanna stuck out her tongue at the brunette before Emily slipped into the house. "Alright, what gives?" Hanna asked once Emily was inside.
Alison turned her head to Hanna once she could no longer linger on Emily now that she was out of sight, "about what?"
"Oh please. Something is going on between you and Emily. I walk into a room with you two and can practically feel the tension."
Alison shrugged, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Hanna shot Alison a knowing look, "Seriously?"
"She's probably just acting weird or something because Pigskin is here and she knows we don't get along."
Hanna eyed Alison but decided to drop it. She always found out the truth anyway. She took a sip of wine and tried another approach, "could you try to not to call her Pigskin. I don't think that would go over too well."
Alison opened her mouth to reply when the backdoor opened and the girls came back to the patio. Spencer was holding a bottle of wine in each hand and Hanna's eyes lit with mischief.
Spencer sat in a chair beside of Aria and Paige sat on the couch with Emily. Alison hated how much it annoyed her that Paige was sitting where she should be, but whatever. She tried her best to ignore the annoyance beside of Emily.
For about half an hour the girls sipped on their wine while they talked. It was turning out to be a good night. Paige wasn't talking to Alison, or Alison to Paige, but the dynamic worked that way. The rest of the girls seemed to get along with Paige just fine and it relaxed Emily. Things felt normal. Maybe inviting Paige wasn't such a horrible idea after all.
"Let's play a game," Hanna said after a conversation about a party a few weeks ago wrapped up. Aria sighed, "here we go. Another Hanna game."
"Hey! I pick fun games for us to play," Hanna defended. Emily shook her head as she laughed, "no, you pick games for us to play that involves us telling secrets."
Hanna winked at Emily, "those are the fun games, Em." Alison smirked, she could see how much she had rubbed off on Hanna within the past few years.
Hanna began to explain the rules to the girls while they sat around the fire pit. "Okay so we're playing Hot Seat. One at a time each of us will be in the 'hot seat'. If you're in hot seat, anyone can ask you any question they want to. You have to answer it truthfully. Everyone only gets one question per round. If you refuse to answer a question or get caught lying, you have to do a dare from the person who asked you the question." Hanna looked around of the circle once she finished, "everyone got it?"
While Emily took a nervous gulp of her wine, Alison's lips turned into a smile. Emily hated games like this and Alison loved them.
Spencer held her wine glass in her hands, "okay Hanna, since this is your game, you're up first. Who have you hooked up with besides Sean?"
Hanna flashed her eyes from Spencer to Aria, "Mike."
Aria's mouth dropped and Alison nearly choked on her wine. Alison already knew the answer, keeping it Hanna's secret between just the two of them, but she didn't expect Hanna to actually tell the truth. Alison wasn't going to rat her out. But damn she was glad that Hanna admitted it on her own purely for the entertainment.
"What?!" Aria gasped, her big eyes somehow growing larger, "when?!"
Alison quickly took Hanna's defense, "no follow up questions. You can only ask yours, so is that the question that you want to ask Hanna?"
Aria rubbed her temple and sighed, "I'll pass." Hanna gave Alison a thankful smile as Aria asked her question, followed by Alison, Emily and then Paige.
Due to the rotation, it was Alison's turn to go. Alison was everyone's favorite person to play these types of games with when they got to ask the questions. Picking Alison's brain was rare and when the opportunity arose, the girls didn't shy away from it. They didn't know when they'd get another chance.
Emily went first. The brunette had already thought about the question she wanted to ask Alison the moment Hanna brought up playing this silly game. She wanted to ask the blonde a question that was important but a question that no one else but the two would understand. She knew that she was playing with fire, especially when her girlfriend was around. But the buzz from her wine and the way flames from the fire pit lit Alison's face gave Emily a burst of confidence.
It wasn't lost on Hanna when Emily and Alison shared a look for just a second too long before Emily asked her question. She decided to file that away for later.
"How do you feel about the last person you kissed?"
It caught Alison off guard her that Emily was so bold.. but she kinda liked it. Sweet Emily had her heart, nothing would ever beat that. But there was something about a risky Emily that was just.. so attractive. It made Alison's chest flutter.
She thought about her words before she spoke. If Emily was going to be bold enough to ask this question, she was going to give her a real answer. "Like they were everything that I had been waiting for. I'd do almost anything to do it again."
Emily blinked back tears before they could surface. Being curious of Alison's feelings was one thing, but hearing her say it out loud... it was.. it was everything. Her eyes dropped to Alison's lips and for one quick moment, she could feel the pressure of them against her own again.
"Wow," Aria said, her hand on her heart. She was a sucker for romance and it was rare that Alison ever talked in a way that highlighted love in a positive way, "that was beautiful Ali."
Before Alison could respond, Paige asked her question, pulling her eyes away from Emily. "What do you regret the most?"
The answer came too easily. Well, her second phrase of her answer. She almost slipped 'you' but she decided to keep the peace. For now anyway. "Pushing someone away from me to the point where they ran to someone else and settled."
Hanna lifted her wine glass to her lips and looked back and forth between Alison and Paige. Alison was a pro at a poker face, but when she looked over at Emily and noticed how uncomfortable the brunette was, she almost laughed. Bingo.
Spencer asked her question next, followed by Aria. When it was Hanna's turn, Alison knew that the blonde was going to ask a juicy question. She wouldn't put anything past Hanna, especially an drunken Hanna.
Hanna smiled devilishly at her best friend. It was a smile that she learned from Alison herself almost a bit too perfectly. If Alison had ever regretted influencing Hanna, it was now. "You better not push it," Alison warned.
Hanna smirked, "this is hot seat, Ali. I'm supposed to push it."
Alison glared at Hanna, but all Hanna did was grin back. Being in control of Alison was so fun when the opportunity arose. "Who was your last kiss?"
Alison cursed under her breath. Shit.
Emily flashed her eyes to Alison. Half of her, dangerously she should add, wanted Alison to say her name. The better half of her wanted Alison to lie because of Paige sitting beside of her.
Alison shook her head and crossed her arms, "ask another question."
"No way! This is the Hot Seat. You have to answer every question, no matter what it is. It's the rule!"
Alison wanted to rip Hanna's head off. "No. I'm not answering it."
"What's wrong, Ali? Got a hot secret to keep?" Hanna grinned and Alison would have laughed had it not been true. Emily was a hot secret. Especially when her girlfriend was sitting right there.
Hanna nudged Alison, "you know what that means." Alison took a big sip of her wine, "just give me the damn dare."
Hanna smirked and her eyes fell to Emily. Alison caught Hanna's glance and the blonde shook her head, "Hanna, no. Drop it." Hanna's smirk seemed to stay permanent on her lips as she looked at Paige, "sorry about this Paige," Hanna stated, then turned her eyes back to Alison. "I dare you to give Emily a lap dance,"
Emily and Paige's mouth dropped in sync and Alison put her wine glass down, "no."
"Hanna, c'mon-," Spencer said at the same time.
"Oh please, it's not like it means anything. We do this all the time," Hanna replied. Okay so maybe Hanna had a sneaky motive and maybe she knew this probably meant something… but she couldn't help herself. She had to know if her suspicions were true.
Aria looked at Paige, "are you okay with this?"
"It's a little weird, Hanna," Spencer tried to reason.
Emily could feel herself and Paige stiffen beside of her. It was normal for the girls to do really silly things to each other, especially when they dared each other to do something, but this was different. Hanna knew that Paige and Alison didn't like each other. And she should have known that Paige would feel uncomfortable with Alison on top of her girlfriend. She couldn't understand why Hanna would dare this out of all things.
Paige tried to be nonchalant but Emily could tell she felt awkward. "It's okay guys, it's just a game," Paige laughed and Emily could tell how forced it was.
"We should do another dare. Something that isn't so provocative," Spencer suggested.
Hanna shook her head, "okay then Ali needs to answer the question. Who did you kiss last Ali?"
With all eyes falling to the blonde, she looked at her wine glass. She was not going to let anyone back her into a corner. After a moment, she looked up at Hanna. "Do you really wanna know?"
Hanna nodded as if it was the most obvious answer in the world, "well, yeah, duh that's why I—,"
Before Hanna could finish Alison lunged forward and wrapped her hand around the back of Hanna's neck, pulling her forward and crashing their lips together. Spencer and Aria didn't know wether to laugh or be disgusted watching the two and Paige was in such shock she didn't move.
Hanna immediately pulled herself away from Alison and pushed her friend's hands away from her, "that's so unfair and you know it! You cheated!"
"Hanna Marin," Alison finally answered, smirking at her blonde friend, "wanna kiss again?"
Hanna rolled her eyes, "no thanks." Alison blew a kiss to Hanna who rolled her eyes again and washed away the taste of Alison with a gulp of wine.
Emily suddenly stood from the couch and headed towards the house. She didn't say a word. She couldn't. She didn't want to risk the girls hearing her voice crack or seeing tears in her eyes.
When Paige didn't follow Emily, Alison got up and took off to the house. "Ali where are you—,"
She didn't turn around. She didn't care. She had been waiting to get Emily alone all night and she finally had her moment. No one was going to take it from her. "I'll be back."
