Sorry for not uploading this chapter sooner. I've been spending the recent months helping relatives renevate their houses. Ripping up flooring, replacing toilets, painting walls...
Anyway, her is the 59th chapter in this saga. Entering the events of The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night.
Chapter 59: Darkness Rises
The following day, Glory became the queen of the RainWings. The first thing she declared was for the RainWings to prepare to defend themselves against the NightWings. Link and Cynder were asked to train them.
After their third training session, the two of them were going to check on their eggs when Flame walked up to them.
"How is it going, Flame?" Link asked.
"The day is going on well," Flame replied. "May I have a word with the two of you for a minute?"
"We don't have another training session until tomorrow," Cynder replied. "What do you need to talk to us about?"
"I recently apprehended a Gerudo," he replied. "I interrogated her and she was definitely after your eggs."
Link and Cynder gasped in horror. "That is terrible," Link replied.
"What should we do?" Cynder asked.
"Usually, the clutch of eggs that were the result of the fertility test are given up for adoption," Flame stated. "But due to the dangerous circumstances and low population levels..."
"We should separate them," Link stated. "Keeping them apart might make them less of a target."
Cynder frowned. "Are you sure of this, Spyro?" she asked. "Would it protect the eggs?"
Link nodded. "I've heard legends that speak of a fae creature that can travel through time," he stated. "That creature would ensure that the eggs are safe from Ganondorf's clutches."
"By scattering them to the stars?" Cynder asked. "I don't like that idea..."
Link nodded solemnly. "I'd rather ensure that they are safe than see them hatch," he replied.
"So, how do we find this creature?" Cynder asked.
"The stories say that the creature is rather mischievous," Link explained. "It likes to-" He stopped, noticing that Flame and Cynder were looking at something that was sitting on his head. "It's on my head, isn't it?"
"Bri!" a voice exclaimed from on top of his head. "Celebri!"
A small creature landed on the ground next to Flame. It was green with blue eyes. On its back were wings similar to those of a fairy. Hovering in the air around it were Link and Cynder's eggs.
Cynder looked as if she was about to cry. "Please don't drop them," she stated.
"It seems that it predicted what we were planning," Flame joked.
Link nealt before the creature. "Take care of them," he stated. The creature nodded and disappeared.
Tears were now sliding down Cynder's snout. "Are we going to see them again?" she asked.
"I hope so," Link replied. "But only time will tell."
Cynder smiled. "You can go back to the village without me," she stated. "I need some time to be alone."
"Are you sure, Cynder?" Link asked.
Cynder nodded as she flew off.
Cynder flew through the trees as she began to think. She was happy that Link was a good husband.
As she flew through the trees, she felt something hit her neck.
Ow! She thought, thinking of the RainWing tranquilizer darts. She tried to flap her wings to stay airborne, but they refused as the muscles within them caused the wings to fold to her sides of their own accord.
She crashed to the ground and was knocked unconscious as an ape smirked in victory from his hiding place in a nearby tree. The Dark Master would be pleased that his squad had tracked Cynder down. He called to his companions as he approached Cynder's unconscious form...
When she returned to consciousness, she tried to move, but soon realized that she can't. She was bound in a lot of ropes. Even her mouth was tied shut.
She saw that she was surrounded by apes. The leader walked up to her.
"You have been very hard to track down, dragon!" he stated. "But we have finally found you!"
Cynder's eyes widened in shock.
The ape smirked. "The Dark Master has a surprise for you once he is free," he stated.
Unbeknownst to him, a RainWing was camouflaged into the surroundings. She fled for the RainWing Village.
At the RainWing Village, Link was reporting to Glory on progress when a RainWing dashed into the treehouse.
"What is it?" Glory asked.
"It's Cynder, my queen," she stated. "She has been captured by creatures that resemble howler monkeys!"
Link bit his lip as he turned to Glory. She looked worried as well.
"The Night of Eternal Darkness is nearly at hand," she stated. "Spyro, I am relieving you of the duty of training the RainWings. Go back to the Guardians and notify them of recent events."
Link nodded and headed for the world gate, Sparx over his shoulder.
"So, Miss Evil Dragon has vanished?" Sparx stated.
"Please don't be that insensitive, Sparx," Link replied. "We need to find her!"
The dragonfly nodded. "It's only a nickname, bro," he conceded. "We'll find her!"
Link dashed through the world gate and spotted the Dragon Temple in the distance. He flapped his wings as fast as he can and landed in the courtyard outside of the temple.
The doors to the temple flew open and Ignitus ran up to him.
"What's wrong, Spyro?" he asked.
"It's Cynder," he replied. "Apes have captured her."
Ignitus' jaw dropped in horror. "Are you sure?"
Link nodded.
Ignitus patted Link on the back. "We'll find her," he consoled. "Let us consult the Pool of Visions."
Link followed him into the chamber of the Pool of Visions. Link waited as Ignitus focused. "I can't see where the apes are taking Cynder... just darkness."
"Wait a minute," Sparx murmured, scratching his antennae. "Cynder, darkness... aren't they the same thing?" he joked.
Link was about to correct Sparx when Ignitus spoke up. "What's this?" Something's coming into focus..." His brows creased in confusion. "This is peculiar... I see you, Spyro, at the base of a great tree, amidst a lake of mist and gloom..."
"A tree?" Link asked. "I've seen a tree like that in some of my dreams. The Chronicler must be summoning me."
Ignitus turned to see that the other Guardians had entered the chamber. "Volteer, you and Cyril must go to the mainland to learn what news you can," he stated. "Eon's teams might be able to help. Terrador, you must make haste to the Shattered Vale and warn the inhabitants of that region that darkness is spreading. Luna and I shall stay here and search for Cynder. These are dangerous times for a dragon to be wandering about..."
Link gave Sparx a melancholy glance as Ignitus prayed, "May the gods watch over us and keep us safe in these dark times."
"What should I do, Ignitus?" Link asked.
"Young alicorn, you must travel by another path and seek out the Chronicler," the fire Guardian replied. "If the stories of the Chronicler are true, there may be hope for us yet...
"Near where I went into hiding, there is an Ancient Grove within the forest at the end of the Silver River, a secret place untouched by civilization. The waters there are poisonous as well as the creatures who are nurtured by it."
Soon, Link and the Guardians were ready to go.
"Trust your instincts," Ignitus stated. "We shall be waiting for you here at the Temple, when your task is complete."
With a smile, Link, Midna, and Sparx set off downstream, heading for the Grove, unaware that this would be the last they would see of them for quite a while...
