Chapter 7: Jax is mad

"So, what exactly are we waiting for?" I asked Reptile as we stood along side a lot of Tarkatans including Baraka. I knew why we were there, I was just trying to pass the time.

"We're waiting for Ssshang Tsssung to give us the signal to attack," the Zaterren replied.

"Alright. And what do we do when that happens?"

"We capture one of the Earthrealm warriorsss."

"Ah," I replied even though I already knew that. "Got it."

Things grew quiet after that. I paced around, trying to keep myself entertained. Soon after, the portal appeared. I joined the Tarkatans as they rushed through, blades at the ready and letting out battle cries.

I stayed in the back son could avoid having to fight anyone. I decided to try and find a place to watch, which ended up turning into a mistake.

I ended up running right into Sonya.

Her eyes widened before she glared at me. "You!"

I smiled sheepishly. "Heheh. Hi."

Sonya's expression quickly turned to anger and rage as she rushed at me, throwing a barrage of punches. I managed to block most of them, but received a blow to the cheek and side. I staggered back but quickly recovered.

I caught her leg as she tried to do a roundhouse kick. Holding it, I raised my other arm and brought my elbow down, hearing a faint, but audible crack.

Sonya let out a short cry of pain as she stumble back, clutching her leg.

I rushed toward her, hoping to catch her off guard. I tried to jab her in the stomach but she grabbed my arm and threw me. I landed a couple feet away. As soon as I got, a roundhouse kick to my chest knocked me back down.

As she approached me I quickly did a leg sweep, literally knocking her off her feet. I swiftly crawled over to her as she was getting back up and put her in a choke hold.

However, holding her became difficult when he felt her jab in the side with her elbow. Eventually she stopped struggling. I let go and checked her pulse, relieved that she was still breathing.

Reptile appeared in front me, looking over Sonya. "Good work. Let'sss get her into the portal."

We lifted her up and made our way through the portal.

"Good work," Sheeva said as we handed Sonya over to her. "Shao Kahn will be pleased."

"He better," I mumbled under my breath, rubbing my side.

Sheeva turned to me. "You should prepare yourself for the tournament. The training room is available is you wish to use it." With that, she walked off, carrying Sonya to the dungeons while Reptile went on his way.

I decided to heed Sheeva's and headed to the training room, where I found Jade practicing.

She turned to me. "Hello James."

"Hey Jade," I greeted. "You up for a little bit of sparing?"

She nodded. "Of course."

Making our way to the training matt, we stood on opposite sides and got into our stances.

We rushed each other. I jumped over Jade as she swung her and staff, pulling out a pair of blades. I tried to strike her but she ducked and jabbed me in the stomach causing me to stumble back.

I jumped back as she swung again. We stared at each other as we twirled our weapons. Jade suddenly threw her razor-rang and darted forwards. I quickly ducked to avoid the razor-rang and used my blades to deflect her staff, sending a kick to her left leg.

She buckled, allowing me to kick her in the chest, sending her back. I once again ducked to aovid the razor-rang and rushed her.

I held my blades to her neck but at the same time she had caught the razor-rang, holding it to my neck.

It was a draw.

"You've improved James," Jade said as we stepped away from each other.

"Thanks. Your not so bad yourself."

Jade rolled her eyes as she retracted her weapons. "Shao Kahn has ordered me to check in on the armory. Would you care to join me?"

I shrugged. "Sure."

As we made our way to the armory, a single thought floated in my mind.

I'm definitely going to get punched by Jax.

When we arrived at the armory Jax stood over a beaten up Johnny Cage. It sucks that I missed it. That was one of my favorite scenes from this game.

You guys lookin' for something?" Jax asked as he approached us.

"The armory is restricted. You will leave now," Jade demanded, getting into her battle stance.

"Gonna have to ask nicer than that," Jax replied, getting into his battle stance as well.

I didn't want to screw anything up, so as the two fought, I turned to leave, but Raiden teleported in front of me.

"I remember you from the tournament. Where is Sonya Blade?"

I held up my arms. "I'm not looking for any trouble."

"That's too bad."

I turned around to receive a punch in the gut from Jax.

I knew it.

"Feel better?" I heard Johnny ask as I struggled to get up.

Uh, listen, Cage, I-"

"Don't worry about it. Guess we know where we are now, thanks to her."

"Yes," Raiden agreed as he helped me up. "And this one will lead us to the jail."

I tried to respond, but all that came out was vomit.

They all stepped back.

"I think you hit him a little too hard," Johnny commented.

I lead them to the jail room where Sheeva was watching over Sonya while the guards seemed to be gamboling.

"Sonya!" Johnny called out, altering everyone to our presence.

I rolled my eyes. Idiot.

"Guards! Stop them!" Sheeva ordered.

"So much for the surprise attack..." Jax grumbled.

As the door behind them began to close, I was quickly pulled through, leaving them on the other side. I turned to see it was Reptile who pulled me away.

"Thanks."

Ssshang Tsssung needs you someplace safe," Reptile explained as we entered the flesh pits. Mileena was still unconscious. "Ssso for the time being, you are going to remain here."

"And do what, exactly?" I asked.

Reptile looked around before walking over to a closet and pulling out a mop and a bucket. "You can clean."

"Are you serious?"
