Chapter 15: Good or Evil?
Mileena was in pretty bad shape after her fight with Stryker. I carried her bridal style to her room. Setting her down on the bed, I caressed her cheeked before taking my leave. I had to get to Kabal and help him-
I was suddenly enveloped in an orange light.
When it disappeared, I was in Shao Kahn's throne room, surrounded by his lackeys.
Oh shit.
"Human!" Shao Kahn bellowed, "My invasion is going well thanks to your information. I'm considering sparing your life when all this is over."
Gee thanks.
"The only thing that remains is the location of Raiden and his warriors."
Oh no.
"Where are they?"
I stepped back. "I... uh..."
Shit! What the fuck am I supposed to say?
Shao Kahn narrowed his eyes. "Well?"
I swallowed. "I don't know where, but most of them will be meeting together in the same building while Raiden's away."
Shao Kahn contemplated my information for a while before nodding. 'You've done me a great service boy. You might find something awaiting you later."
Before I could ask what he meant, I was once again enveloped by the orange light from before. When it faded, I was outside Mileena's room.
I let out a sigh as I shook my head before entering her room.
She slept peacefully as I sat on the foot of her bed. I noticed she was cuddling a teddy bear which was freaking adorable. I smiled and ran a hand over her cheek.
Looking away, I prepared myself for what would probably be one of the hardest decisions of my life. Shit is definitely going to go down when I do this.
I got up from the bed to leave, but something grabbed my arm.
"James?"
I paused at the sound of her voice. Letting out a sigh, I reluctantly turned back, only to get a huge surprise.
Mileena's face looked nearly human. Her eyes were human except they were still yellow and had slit pupils. Her teeth had a more human appearance as well but were still sharp.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"Just for a walk Mileena. I need to clear my head."
Her face grew worried. "You're not going back out to fight, are you?"
I shook my head. "No, of course not! I'll be back. I promise."
Mileena nodded. "Okay."
She leaned forward and kissed me for a few seconds before laying back down.
I stood there shocked for a few minutes, feeling my lips before turning to leave.
God, what am I doing?
I made my way down the flesh pits, where Kano was 'fixing' Kabal. I could already hear them arguing as I reach the door.
"I should be dead!" Kabal yelled. "Now you're gonna be!"
Kabal grabbed his hook swords and tried to swing at Kano who jumped back and fired his laser eye. Kabal used his swords to block the beam but it still knocked him to the floor.
Kano then pulled out his knife and tried to stab him, but Kabal used a sword to block it before kicking Kano in the stomach. As he stumbled back Kabal quickly got up and used his speed to punch Kano multiple times.
Kano fell to his knees, looking up to see Kabal rushing back towards him. He twisted his knife and threw his nice at the cop.
Kabal cried out as the blade sunk into his side. He stumbled and fell to the ground, covering his bleeding wound.
I had to intervene. I darted towards Kano as he approached Kabal with another knife in his hand. I grabbed his arm.
He turned to me in surprise. "What the-"
In three, quick successions, I punched his face, then his chest and kneed him in the ball. As Kano fell to the ground groaning in pain, I stomped on his head, knocking him out.
I then approached Kabal. "You okay?"
"Why did you help me?" He grunted.
"Because Kano is a piece of shit, and I'm not getting to let these fucks destroy the earth." I held out my hand. "Now, do you want to keep asking questions or do you want to get out of here?"
We made our way to the throne room with tied up Kano as Motaro and his extermination squad entered from a portal while several tarkatans and Lin Kuei cyborg carried the soaked remains of Kintaro.
"I'm gonna guess the guy on the throne is in charge of the invasion," Kabal commented.
"No, shit. That's Shao Kahn," I responded.
"You're a right genius, you are," Kano added.
I pressed my blade against his back to shut him up.
The emperor stood up in anger at the sight of Kintaro's remains. "What is this?"
"Kintaro was killed by the Earthrealmers," Motaro reported. "It shows how weak the Shokan are."
"Be careful of what you say, centaur!" Goro stepped forward in anger. "Before I rip your head off!"
"Enough!" Shao Khan yelled, causing everyone to go silent. He clenched his fists in frustration. "The Earthrealmers are much stronger than I thought!"
"It's no great matter," Sindel spoke as she approached him. I had forgotten Quan Chi had resurrected her. "I will go to Earthrealm. To strike down those fighters."
Shao Khan regarded her for a few moments. "Yes. Shang Tsung."
Oh, no.
The sorcerer stepped forward. "Yes, emperor?"
"The empress requires something of you."
Shang Tsung stepped forward curious when Shao Khan suddenly reached out and began to absorb all the souls in his possession. Green light filled the room while Shang Tsung cried out as all of his power was taken, including his own soul.
"See there? I'm thinking he's a bit much for-"
Kabal knocked Kano out before he finished. "I can take him."
"Trust me, you can't," I said as Shao Khan passed Shang Tsung's power to Sindel.
Kabal made his way to Shang Tsung.
"Wait!" I whispered but I was too late as Noob Saibot approached him. I then recognized an all too familiar puddle of blood slide over to them before taking the form of a red-haired woman.
"No one attacks the emperor!" Skarlet shouted as she drew her weapon.
Before anyone could react, I rushed forward, sweeping Skarlet off her feet. Noob Saibot turned to me but Kabal used his speed to knock him to the ground.
"Traitor!" Shao Khan snarled at me before turning to Quan Chi. "Quan Chi! Seal the portal!"
"We gotta go!" I yelled at Kabal as Motaro and his soldiers surrounded us.
"Way ahead of you!" He responded, grabbing my arm before rushing towards the portal.
He let go of me as he stopped a couple inches in front of it.
Before I jumped in I noticed Mileena out of the corner of my eye, looking at me with a shocked expression.
"Mileena..."
"Let's go!" Kabal shouted, jumping through as the tarkatans and cyborgs approached us.
I turned to Mileena one last time. "I'm sorry."
I then jumped through the portal.
The portal dropped me off in a street back in the city.
"You okay?" Kabal asked as he helped me up.
"Yeah, I'm good."
What have I done?
"Good." He looked himself over. "This speed's incredible! Guess it's a side-effect of the Outworld magic."
"You are not authorized for portal use." A robotic voice said out of nowhere.
Oh boy.
We both turned around to see a blue robot walking toward us. Sub Zero.
"Yeah?" Kabal asked. "Says who?"
"Sub Zero," the robot responded, activating his powers. "Unit L-K-five-two-O."
"You say that like it means something," Kabal commented.
"As you will soon discover."
Before we could engage, I felt something wet beneath my feet. Looking down, I said a puddle of red liquid.
"Oh, sh-"
I let out a yelp as Skarlet reached out and pulled me into the blood.
Hey guys, I'm sorry for the long wait.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
It seems James has permanently damaged his relationship with Mileena, and how will he deal with Skarlet?
