Chapter 22
A New Life and Journey
This probably gonna be the last chapter of Part 1. Like I said a chapter or two ago I'm gonna go over the previous ones & rework/polish them up. So basically don't come back till the chapter # goes up cause I'll probably combine the first two at the very least. As always though I don't own Naruto only my OC & since I haven't said it in awhile if you have a jutsu you'd like to add just send me a message describing it & it may end up in here with credit given. Now onto the show!
As Team Anko and Inoichi's Anbu escort head towards the Hokage's office both for a debrief and for their pay slips Fū nervously looked around at the Konoha shinobi and civilians they passed by. While most simply smile and wave at the girl and the Leaf shinobi around her a few stare briefly before shrugging their shoulders. Slowing down just enough so she's walking alongside Naruto and Shino she looks at the two before quietly speaking. "Why are they looking at me? Your sensei didn't tell anyone about It right?" Shaking his head Shino shows a bit more emotion by gently squeezing the girl's shoulder. "They likely are wondering who you are. Plus I believe a few of our village's sensor shinobi work here and likely realized your reserves are above normal. You can relax Fū-san."
Despite nodding and smiling sheepishly a bit though Fū's nerves refuse to settle until she's distracted when Naruto briefly rushes ahead and yells at someone. As he stops beside a trio of kunoichi his own age Naruto quickly hugs one before dragging her to his group. "Karin-nee this is Fū-san. She's gonna be a genin here! Think you could help me show her around?" Nodding Karin reaches out her hand and shakes it though she immediately looks at Naruto before looking back at Fū. "Well that explains your nervousness and Naruto sticking close to you."
Eyes going wide Fū let's go of Karin's hand almost as if it burned her before looking between her and Naruto. "Relax Fū-chan this idiot is basically my brother so I'd be an even bigger idiot for judging you for it." Looking down Fū quickly wipes away a few tears before smiling at Karin and giving her a quick hug before the girl says goodbye and rejoins her team. Much to Fū's amusement Anko quickly smacks Naruto on the back of the head and tells him not to do that again.
Watching Inoichi leave the Hokage's office Anko goves each of the kids a smile before pushing them forward. "Alright you three let's get this over with." As the genin enter Itachi's office they see Hiruzen and another old man sitting on chairs to the left and right of Itachi's desk. Looking up Itachi smiles at the genin before focusing on Fū and nodding to her. "You must be Fū. I know it isn't much but on behalf of my village let me be the first to apologize for how you were treated. Village's should never treat any of their own the way Taki treated you. Now Inoichi-san told me you wished to become a kunoichi of Konoha, is that true?"
Looking between Itachi and the older nin beside him Fū tries to keep her nervousness from showing even as she nods. "Hai Hokage-sama. I would be honored if I could join your village." Bowing slightly Fū and the other's miss a brief look of victory in Itachi's eyes as he nods to her. "If you truly wish to join our village I would be honored to accept you Fū-san. Though it may take some time to get you into a regular genin team as we are a bit undermanned at the moment."
Taking a moment to consider what he was going to announce in a few days Itachi looked up at Anko before smiling briefly. "Anko-san tell me do you think you could adequately lead a team of four genin? I believe Fū-san would fit in well with your team at least until I find another she can move to." Looking down at the young kunoichi Anko nods before a somewhat sadistic smile spreads across her face. "Godaime-sama I knew you cared for me more than that other girl.", within the Uchiha District a certain Uchiha kunoichi sneezes, "Just when these three are getting boring you give me another genin to tortu...train. I will not disappoint you."
One eyebrow raising in amusement at Anko's phrase Itachi smiles nonetheless at her expanded team before looking down at a scroll on his desk. "Then you five are dismissed. Anko I am sure I can expect your official report by tomorrow morning. Just make sire you and your team are back here by noon tomorrow. I will be announcing the results of the Exams to the teams that participated." Bowing Anko nods before leading her team out and to Yakiniqu BBQ for a celebratory lunch.
As they enter the restaurant Naruto sees the other team already sitting together in the back. Noticing them Kakashi waves them over after telling a waiter to add them to their group. As the team sits down immediately the other genin and Jonin look between Fū and the rest of Team 8. "Who's the new girl Naruto-kun? Is she from one of the other Academies?" As Karin not so gently steps on Yama's foot under the table she sighs even as Naruto shakes his head. "Nah Fū-san here is from Takigakure but is gonna be a Konoha shinobi from now on. She's even gonna join our team till Sasuke's emo brother can find another team for her to join."
Rolling his eyes at Naruto's ever present jokes Sasuke simply throws a short rib right between the blonde's eyes causing him to flinch at the unexpected hit. "Don't be mad cause he's the Hokage and you aren't dobe." Smirking Naruto tosses the bone back only to scowl as Sasuke catches it and drops it on a empty plate. "Naruto why don't you introduce us to your new friend here." Sticking his tongue out and ducking under another rib bone Naruto nods before standing up and pointing at Team 7.
"The duck haired boy is Sasuke Uchiha aka Teme," rolling his eyes Sasuke waves to Fū , "the kunoichi next to him is Sakura Haruno don't let her punch you she hits really hard", grinning Sakura waves before making a fist at Naruto causing him to flinch, "the one with the puppy on his head is Kiba Inuzuka and the puppy is Akamaru", while taking a bite of some pork belly Kiba nods while Akamaru yips at her, "& the one eyed scarecrow with the half mask on is their sensei Kakashi Hatake." As Naruto points out Kakashi he lazily nods to the girl before somehow clearing his plate too fast for any to see his face under his mask.
Laughing at Team 7's reaction to their sensei Naruto points to Team 9 to their left. "These four are Team 9 aka Team Guy. They're a year older than the rest of us but are still great. The super serious teen by Kiba is Neji Hyūga don't let his cold exterior fool you he's a good guy", rolling his eyes a bit Neji waves at Fū who nervously waves back, "the kunoichi right by him is Tenten Higurashi she's crazy good with weapons and her dad runs the best weapon shop in the village", spinning a kunai around her left ring finger Tenten smiles and waves at the girl before stopping the kunai, "and the one with the crutches is Rock Lee aka Bushy Brows he's a monster when it comes to taijutsu", giving Fū a seated version of his good guy pose Lee is silenced by Tenten before he can say anything, "and their sensei is Maito Guy. No Lee is not his kid the two are just really, really similar cause Lee idolizes Bushy Brow Sensei." Laughing at Naruto's description Guy is silenced much like Lee by Tenten.
For a moment Naruto is bent over laughing at Tenten's expression before he points to the team on their right. "This is Team 10. The blonde at the end is Ino Yamanaka she's the daughter of Inoichi and knows the best kunoichi stores", waving to Fū Ino smirks at Naruto's statement, "the...husky guy next to her is Choji Akimichi he knows the best restaurants in the village cause his clan runs half of them", nodding vigorously as he eats Choji waves distractedly to Fū, "the bored looking guy next to him is Shikamaru Nara he's probably the laziest guy you'll ever meet but he's cool", lifting his head a bit Shikamaru nods before putting his head back down, "and their sensei is Asuma Sarurobi his knuckleblades are awesome and if you have wind natured chakra he can teach you alot." Smirking around his unlit cigarette Asuma waves to the girl before he tells Shikamaru to eat already.
As Shikamaru sits up and mutters something under his breath Naruto points to the team on their left. "That's Team 11 aka Team Kunoichi. You've already been introduced to Karin-nee she's a scary good sensor", smirking at Naruto Karin nods before tapping her teammate so she pays attention, "the girl next to her is Yama Fūma she's like Tenten-san and really good with weapons", pouting a bit Yama nonetheless waves to Fū though she keeps muttering something that sounds like blind blondes as he points to her last teammate, "that's Yakumo Kurama and she's probably the best genin in Konoha when it comes to genjutsu", smiling kindly Yakumo waves to Fū who smiles back, "and their sensei is Kurenai Yuhi. She's probably only second to Teme's brother when it comes to genjutsu in Konoha." Smiling Kurenai takes a drink of her tea before nodding to Fū.
"And that's everyone so can we eat now!?" Sitting back down Naruto and the others quickly begin to eat as the staff works quickly to refill their platters and bowls. After a few minutes of eating though Shikamaru looks up and around at the others. "Have you guys been told to be at the Hokage's office tomorrow too?" As members from all the other teams each nod or say they have the young Nara sighs. "What a drag...He's probably going to promote at least two of us then." Muttering as he goes back to slowly eating his food Shikamaru misses the looks the others give each other before looking at him. "So Shika who do you think he's gonna promote to Chunin? The 3rd Exam was ended early afterall."
Looking up at Sasuke Shikamaru sighs before closing his eyes for a moment. Without opening them back up Shikamaru answers in a very bored voice. "Sasuke, Neji, maybe Naruto, and if they're being spiteful me." As Shikamaru says this Sakura is taking a drink and ends up swallowing a bit too much in shock. As the kunoichi coughs and Ino helps her by not so gently hitting her on her back Sakura looks up at Shikamaru. "Ar...Are you crazy? Why would they promote Naruto?" Hearing this Naruto looks up sharply at the girl while Karin seems to be annoyed as well. "OI! What's that supposed to mean!? Least I mad.."
Before Naruto can say another word he is silenced by Anko hitting him on the top of his head. "Much as I want Blondie to shut up. He's right what do you mean by that? While he's not the smartest", at this Naruto tries to jump at his sensei only to be restrained by Shino and Fū, "he is a strong genin. Add in what he's learned from yours truly and his own clan and I'd be amazed if more than three of you genin could beat or match him in a fight." For a moment the other genin are surprised before looking at Naruto who seems to be struggling with whether he should hug Anko or not given her compliment & previous insult before he just smiles at his sensei.
Rolling her eyes Anko simply resumes eating while Kakashi and the other Jonin laugh quietly at genin's silence. "Maa if you kids don't want to eat we can leave now." Looking up sharply at Kakashi Sasuke rolls his eyes a bit before he resumes eating breaking the trance everyone was in. As the sounds of everyone cooking and eating resumes Naruto smiles as he eats beside his friends and teammates. "We need to do this more often..." For just a moment Naruto is happy before he hears a deep and cruel laugh within his own mind. "If the others knew the truth they would hate you boy."
Scowling for a moment Naruto cuts his connection to the Kyūbi without responding but still a hint of doubt remains in his mind thanks to the fox. Sensing Naruto's shift in mood Hinata taps her friend and crush on the shoulder before offering him a small smile. "Na-Naruto-kun...if it's possible wo-would you like to train with me tomorrow? I-I believe I've cre-created a new Juken move." Eyes widening Naruto nods before hugging his oldest friend much to her embarrassment. "Of course Hinata-chan! It's been way too long since we trained together." Smiling even if she wished she could ask for more Hinata is still glad to see the unexpected sadness is gone from Naruto's usually endlessly happy eyes. "One day...One day I will confess to him."
As the teams slowly finish their meals Kurenai stands up and draws everyone's attention by clearing her throat. "Since all our teams were called tomorrow me and the other Jonin have decided we will meet tomorrow morning for some light training before heading to the Hokage's office. So instead of your usual training grounds please meet at Training Ground 7 no later than 0800 tomorrow. Understood?" All around the table the 16 genin nod before responding as one. "Hai!"
Soon after the teams are each dismissed by their respective sensei though the genin decide to hang out for a bit longer at a nearby park. As the group sits or lays atop the park's central hill Fū once more grows nervous at how each of them is obviously friends with the others along with random shinobi and civilians that call out to them as they pass on by. Lost in her own little world Fū misses Tenten asking her a question repeatedly until the young weapon mistress waves a hand before her face. "You there Fū-san? Haha finally you're back! I was asking what kind of jutsu do you usually use?"
For a moment Fū smiles nervously in embarrassment before raising her left hand and channeling chakra into it. As scale powder begins to slowly drift down onto the floor the other's watch amazed at her unique jutsu. "It's called Scale Powder and if I release enough it can also blind people temporarily. I can also use beetles and other similar insects kinda like how Shino-san does. Plus a few Suiton jutsu I learned in Taki..." Falling silent Fū holds back her tears only to feel something crawling across her right hand.
Looking down she notices one of Shino's kikaichū is staring up at her before taking off and returning to it's partner. Smiling at how the insect had thought to cheer her up as only an insect could Fū briefly considered waving to it on Shino's finger before shaking her head. "...so you use jutsu similar to Shino?" Realizing she's missed part of the question Fū looks over at Ino and is a bit worried about the expression on the blonde's face. "Yeah except the beetles don't live with me like Shino's kikaichū do with him. It's more like...they listen to me when I'm actively using chakra to call them. Kinda like a summon only most of them aren't enhanced by chakra."
For a moment the others seem confused and wonder what Fū means before she holds up her left hand as a few beetles fly into the restaurant and land on her fingers. "These beetles have chakra but it's so minuscule that it can't really be used to do much beyond the smallest enhancement. But for Shino's kikaichū and summons they have far more chakra either due to being given it by their partner or by nature of their existence as ninja creatures that have trained for centuries." As the beetles took flight Fū waved to them before she shrugs and resumes walking beside Shino.
Chuckling Karin claps drawing everyone's attention and asks for everyone to group up around her. "Alright I think it's all time we all head home. Also Fū-san where are you staying?" Nodding the genin begin to disperse though Teams 8 and 10 lag behind as Fū seems to grow a bit worried as she looks around the village. "Fū-san can stay with my clan if she wishes." Turning quickly Fū stares at Shino in surprise before a very bright smile spreads across her face as she nods rapidly.
Smiling Shino waves goodbye to the others as he leads Fū towards his family's home while beetles and insects of all types begin swarming around them. To the other's amusement the two seem rather close as they talk about a variety of things. "If those two don't end up together I'll stop believing in love." Laughing at Karin's statement Yama and Yakumo nod while watching another potential couple talk and laugh while watching their teammate walk away. "That moron still doesn't see how she feels...Or realize how he feels." Very quickly the remaining genin disperse back home as the night goes on.
-Aburame Compound-
Walking through the small gate into the Aburame Compound Fū stares in wonder at the sheer variety of insects crawling and flying through the area. "Most of these insects are not useful in combat or espionage roles. But they are still useful to us in other ways outside of combat." Nodding Fū stops as she hears the sounds of uncounted thousands of legs and wings suddenly moving towards her. Much to her astonishment all around her insects of all types begin flocking towards her even as Aburame clan members come out of the surrounding structures to stare at her and Shino.
From Shino's own house Shibi and *Shiori Aburame walk out openly surprised at what is occurring. Walking forward quickly but calmly Shibi looks between Shino and Fū repeatedly even as his own insects flew over to the girl before flying back to him in a extremely state. "Shino who is this girl? And why are the Clan's hives so interested in her? Why do...she's carrying the Queen isn't she." Much to Fū and Shino's shock Shibi suddenly kneels down before the girl and releases a single kikaichū queen onto her stomach. Taking a step back Fū nearly wipes the queen off her stomach before her oldest and first friend tells her to wait.
For a few moments the queen crawls across the girl before seemingly hesitantly flying back to Shibi who holds her up to his face. "She holds the Queen. From this day forth the Hive will stand beside this girl." All across the compound Aburame nod much to Fū's astonishment at the open support for her. "But...But why? I hold a biju...Why don't you fear me!?" Much to Shino's surprise Fū begins to cry and suddenly grabs onto him and cry's into his chest.
Kneeling down once more so his face is level with her's Shibi gently places a hand on her shoulder. "*Our clan is how it is because of the one you carry. Long ago it is said she aided us when we were facing a enemy long lost to the mist's of time. In recognition of this we view jinchuriki not as beasts, or weapons, nor demons but as shinobi unfairly burdened with something they may not be able to control." Lifting her head from Shino's chest, without noticing he'd wrapped his arms around her, Fū stares in open shock at the Aburame Head and his kin around that were nodding to her with small but very real smiles.
"Otousan I humbly request that Fū-san be allowed to stay within the Clan's compound until such a time she is able or desires to leave. I believe our Clan will be best able to aid her in growing as a kunoichi of Konoha." Standing up straight Shibi looks down at his son, who to his hidden amusement has yet to release the girl, and smiles at him. "She may. Though I am sure we will have to get the Hokage's approval for her staying here long term given her special status." Nodding Shino smiles at Fū who realizes she's still holding onto the Aburame and steps back slightly and smiles back at him before looking at Shibi. "Thank you Shibi-sama. I hope I can one day repay your clan for your kindness and support." Bowing to the Aburame Head and his clan Fū has tears in her eyes as she is led into the head family's home.
-next morning-
-Training Ground 7-
As most of the village is still getting up sixteen Genin and five Jonin go through their respective warm up exercises though it's obvious to all that Kurenai is very quickly losing her patience. Finally losing it Kurenai asks for Anko to watch her team before she disappears in a burst of smoke and leaves muttering about lazy, mask wearing fools. While the other Jonin slowly count down from ten Team 7 sighs as their friends laugh at how lazy their sensei is. Suddenly as the Jonin all say zero a high pitched scream is heard coming from the village's residential area that sounds suspiciously like a grown man crying over a book. Reappearing once more Kurenai drops something wrapped in a blanket at her feet before walking off into the trees presumably to loudly ask Kami-sama why such a lazy man is her superior.
As the mass rocks back and forth it's revealed to be Kakashi in his usual gear with his arms wrapped around his legs. To Asuma's amusement he is still in shock and is mumbling about "too much green, caterpillar eyebrows, and sunsets." While the Genin wonder what exactly Kakashi is talking about the various Jonin begin to laugh at their friend and comrade. "I told you this would happen Kakashi. Kurenai is an extremely punctual person so when you don't show up on time for a thing you pushed she snapped. What'd she hit you with this time?"
Shuddering in disgust Kakashi looks up at the smoking Jonin with his sole eye twitching incessantly before answering in a broken voice. "Sh...She ma...made me see Guy and a female version of...of him in my books...So much green..." To the Genin's surprise Asuma blinks his eyes for a bit before he begins to laugh to the point he falls back and can't even sit up. "Hahahaha she..she made you see GUY in Icha Icha!? Hahahahaha oh Kami that's a new one! Hahaha!" While Asuma continues laughing the other Jonin simply chuckle, or in one case, wonder loudly why seeing him in the book is so bad.
After a few moments Kurenai walks back into the clearing and calls each of the teams to stand before her and the other Jonin. "Alright now that we are all FINALLY here let's begin. Can anyone here tell me what chakra nature they have or what they are?" To Kurenai's surprise quite a few of the Genin raise their hands so picking randomly she points to Kiba. "My chakra nature is Earth. I don't really remember much about the others though.." Sighing a bit internally Kurenai wordlessly prompts Karin to speak by looking at her. Opening up a scroll Karin channels a bit of chakra into it revealing the symbols for each element arranged in a circle. "The five chakra natures are Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Respectively they are stronger versus the nature after them but weaker than the one before them. For instance Fire natured chakra will always trump Wind but will lose to Water. My own chakra nature is Water though I have a weaker affinity for Wind."
Looking down at the scroll the others notice various symbols in between or above the main elements with descriptions labeling them as kekkei genkai. "So how can we find out what our elements are sensei?" Looking amongst themselves the Jonin briefly talk before Kakashi walks forward and holds out a piece of paper. "This paper is made from trees grown using chakra. Due to this it reacts to the slightest bit of chakra and reveals your affinity.", channeling just a small bit of his chakra into one strip Kakashi eye smiles as it crumples up, "If it crumples like this you have Lighting, if it burns it's Fire, turns to dust Earth, if it get's wet it's Water, and if it's sliced apart it's Wind. Once we figure out your respective natures the Jonin with the same will teach you some beginner exercises in change in nature. Understood?"
Handing out strips of litmus paper to each Genin Kakashi motions for them to channel their chakra into them. As he see's Naruto's get sliced in half he smiles a bit at just how much he's inherited from his mother and father. The group surprises him though when Choji's, Shino's, & Shikamaru's burn, Yama and Tenten's crumples like Sasuke's, and Lee's crumbles into dirt. "Alright if your paper burned you'll join Anko for tor...training, if it's crumbled Guy will...ahem help you, if it got wet it'll be Kurenai, if it was sliced apart Asuma, and if it crumpled you're with me."
As the genin split up Naruto is surprised to see he's the sole wind affinity following Asuma towards the edge of the clearing. "Umm excuse me Asuma-sensei but are wind affinities really this rare? I know a few within my clan but none of the others share it beyond Karin-nee's secondary affinity for it." Taking a last draw from his cigarette before stomping it out Asuma looks back and nods at Naruto. "You got it in one kid. Outside of your clan in Konoha the only wind natured shinobi is me. Our land isn't called Hi no Kuni for no reason afterall most our clans tend towards fire natured chakra instead of the other nature's. But don't worry in my not so humble opinion wind chakra is the best for both close in and long range jutsu. Show me what you've learned so far."
As Naruto creates a few clones to get leaves he laughs as he hears Anko yelling at Shikamaru. "..How did a lazy brat like you make it through the Exams!? And why do you share the same affinity as me!?" When Shikamaru mutter something under his breathe Shino and Choji both step back still holding a small stick in their hands. To the other's amusement they see Anko soon summon one of her snakes to chase Shikamaru around until he starts the exercise. Muttering about lazy Naras as she turns back to watch the other two Anko is surprised when Shino's stick has already begun to smoke lightly. "Alright you brats I want a flame on the end of those by the time we have to leave or I'm gonna send more snakes after you."
To the other's continued amusement Shikamaru once more mutters under his breath and is chased again by a snake until he's caught in it's coils and slapped in the back of the head by Anko. "Get to work lazy. You can't always depend on your shadows and teammates to deal with your enemies. Just ask your dad about the last war I'm sure he's got a story or two to share." Sighing once more Shikamaru nonetheless actually seems to focus on the exercise as his stick begins to smoke before a small flame appears on it's top.
From the edge of the clearing near the river Kurenai's group is split in two with Sakura and Ino trying to form and hold balloon sized balls of water above their heads. As the two former fangirls are trying and failing to not get soaked Karin, Yakumo, and Hinata are tasked with starting a whirlpool in bowls and then reversing them without being splashed. While Hinata doesn't notice it Naruto becomes increasingly distracted as he see's his friend working without her usual jacket on. To Karin's amusement it gets to the point Asuma has to take the boy a bit further out by claiming they need to get more leaves for him and his clones to cut through. Turning to watch Kakashi and Sasuke work Karin has to stifle a laugh as the Uchiha boy's hair is sticking up even more than usual as he struggles to progress in his control of Lightning natured chakra.
For a moment the various groups are working mostly silently until Lee is suddenly sent flying by Guy out of nowhere. "No Lee! The point of this exercise is for you to use not your strength but just chakra to grind the stones to dust!" As the two continue their usual antics Kiba and Neji try to block their voices out while holding small pebbles within their hands. "Are they always like this!?" Turning to look at the Inuzuka Neji answers in a voice completely empty of all emotion. "Unfortunately yes.." Wishing he had some ear plugs Kiba sighs as he tries to ignore the two before sighing in relief as Anko tells them to be silent.
As noon draws closer the various Jonin lead every back to the center of the clearing for just a bit of rest and a small meal before leading them into the village. Eye smiling as the Genin talk excitedly about their own exercises Kakashi smiles as Naruto and Karin take turns making fun of Sasuke who's hair has yet to go down. "They're definitely related to Kushina-san...I wonder how he's gonna take Jiriaya-sama's offer?" Almost pulling out his book before stopping as he remembers the genjutsu Kurenai used on it Kakashi smiles as he looks at the Genin before him. "These brats are going to be legends one day."
Staring up at the Hokage Tower as Kurenai leads the teams in Kakashi smiles one more time before hiding his happiness behind his usual blank look. Called into the Hokage's office Kakashi and the other Jonin stand near the back while the Genin stand before Itachi in his Hokage robes. "I am glad you all came today. As you all know the Chunin Exams were ended early due to the invasion and subsequent fight with Suna and Oto. Despite this myself and Sandaime-sama have been going over your efforts during both the Exams and the invasion. And have decided that a few of you have more than met our expectations for Chunin. When I call your name please step forward and take your jacket and Chunin certificate."
Rising Itachi is handed a jacket from his left by Kosuke. "Neji Hyūga it is my pleasure as Godaime Hokage of Konohagakure to promote you to Chunin." Stepping forward Neji grabs the jacket and scroll from Itachi in a dazed state and bows after taking the jacket and scroll. Stepping back he's quickly engulfed in a group hug by his team and cousin while the others congratulate him on his promotion. Smiling Itachi holds out his right hand as Hiruzen hands him another jacket and scroll. Seeing this those present quickly grow silent though Hiruzen and Kosuke can't stop chuckling at how Neji seems to stand just a little straighter beside Tenten. "Shikamaru Nara it is my pleasure as Godaime Hokage of Konohagakure to promote you to Chunin."
Muttering a bit to himself and wondering if he can refuse the promotion Shikamaru is pushed forward by Naruto much like he was during the Exams. Sighing internally about troublesome blondes Shikamaru nevertheless accepts the promotion and bows to Itachi. Much like the still somewhat dazed Neji he's quickly engulfed in a hug from his team and friends. Smiling Ino lightly taps Shikamaru on his shoulder before putting a arm around him and Choji. "Great now we gotta work harder to catch up to this lazy bum. Right Choji?" Nodding Choji for once refrains from eating as he congratulates his oldest friend on his promotion and says he'll treat him to dinner for it.
Laughing a bit Shikamaru nods before focusing back on Itachi who's holding up one last jacket that seems slightly different from the usual Chunin gear. "As you all can see this *flak jacket is slightly different from the others. The original was used by one of our best kunoichi during the Third Shinobi World War. And her family designed this for her son who is in many ways her clone. It's my pleasure as Godaime Hokage to present this jacket and the heritage it represents to Naruto Uzumaki." For just a moment the room is silent as the usually hyperactive and loud blonde is stunned into silence.
Gently pushed forward by Hinata Naruto gently grabs the jacket and notices it has the Uzushio symbol on the right shoulder with the symbol for the Will of Fire on it's left. Taking the jacket Naruto bows robotically before stepping back to his friends who are surprised by his silence. "Na...Naruto-kun are...are you okay?" Turning to look at Hinata he nods and she notices he's beginning to shake much like he did during the First Exam. Noticing this Karin covers her ears and backs up a bit before looking at the others. "Ahh crap cover your ears guys."
Confused at her request the majority of the Genin and Jonin look between her and Naruto as she counts down from five. As she reaches two Kiba finally gets annoyed and begins to ask her why when suddenly Naruto takes a very deep breathe and seems to vibrate even more. "YATTA! I DID IT! I GOT PROMOTED TO CHUNIN!" As Naruto continues to shout in glee the others present quickly cover their ears though it doesn't seem to help much. All across the village villagers and shinobi hear a very familiar voice constantly repeating itself as Naruto celebrates like only he can for nearly a minute straight. For a few seconds when his voice finally ceases to echo the entire village is silent and one Uzumaki couple can barely keep themselves from falling over laughing.
Within the Hokage's office Naruto realizes what he just did and instead of being hugged and congratulated he's quickly mobbed by friends who begin to hit him for being so loud. Only the Hokage, his advisors, Hinata, and Karin seem to find it amusing as the newly promoted Chunin outdid himself so effortlessly without even realizing it. Loudly clearing his throat to draw everyone's attention, and end Naruto's beating, Itachi claps his hands once to silence everyone before bowing slightly to those before him. "As Godaime I'm glad our village has shinobi such as yourselves in it's ranks. Keep training and working with your comrades and I'm sure one day one of you will take this hat from me. You are dismissed though I believe a few of my shinobi wish to meet with you all so please head to the first conference room down the hall."
Nodding the Jonin quickly take the newly promoted Chunin and Genin into the room where to their surprise Jiriaya, Tsunade, Kaida, Mikoto, and a few others are waiting for them. Spending a few moments congratulating the new Chunin Tsunade and the others call for them all to be seated while asking Kurenai to lock the door. "As you all know your teams have progressed at a rate most Genin would find impossible to meet. Despite this you all have done your village and family's proud but in recognition of this sensei and Godaime-sama have decided to push your teams even further. From this day forth your current teams are placed in the reserves and you will be sent only on missions the Hokage picks for you. This does not mean you won't be working together in fact it means we expect you to work harder.", at this Shikamaru has to restrain himself from saying something, "And the shinobi here will help push you all to new levels. I will announce the Jonin or Clan Head you will work with now. And I expect no complaining about how may or few you have we are doing it like this for a reason."
Taking a deep breath Tsunade looks around the room and smiles at how determined the teens are despite their obvious confusion. "Hinata Hyūga, Karin Uzumaki, and Sakura Haruno for the next two to three years you three will learn medical jutsu from me." Stunned the three kunoichi nonetheless bow as they realize what this could mean for them. "You are still expected to learn form your sensei & clan or family's as well so I hope you three are ready for the long haul cause this is not an easy path." Bowing once more the three girls all seem equally determined as they bow once more and respond together. "Hai Shishou!"
Smiling at the three Tsunade prompts them to be seated before looking at Mikoto who steps forward. "Sasuke Uchiha, Tenten, and Yama Fūma you two will train under Mikoto Uchiha when it comes to your skill with throwing weapons and blades in general." Nodding the three stand and bow to the Uchiha matriarch who smiles softly at them though Sasuke see's a bit of sadness still in her eyes. Sitting back down as Mikoto steps back to join the others as Anko steps forward and summons a unknown snake holding a scroll in it's mouth.
"As you all know Anko is the sole Snake Summoner left in Konoha. And she believes it's time for the next generation to begin so I'll let her announce who she has chosen to ask to sign it." Opening the scroll Anko momentarily glares at Orochimaru and Kabuto's signatures next to hers. "Despite the storied history of the Snake Clan sadly for many shinobi we have become tainted by association due to the actions of one ma...scumbag Orochimaru. With his death I am now the eldest Summoner and I have been asked to find a new summoner to help wipe the stain from our name. Sasuke Uchiha step forward...please."
Surprised at the normally crass woman's wording and attitude Sasuke steps forward but keeps a bit of distance between himself and the scroll. "Sasuke Uchiha despite being on another team I have watched your growth these past few months. Because of that and your actions during the Sound Invasion I believe you are one I can trust to carry on the true legacy of the Snake Clan. Will you accept?" Looking at the scroll Sasuke nods before stepping forward as Anko thanks him. "You're going to need to place your fingerprints and name in blood on the scroll. Then do the summoning jutsu to seal the contract." Cutting his thumb with a kunai Sasuke nods before copying Anko's hand signs and slamming his hands on the desk. "Summoning Jutsu!"
As the smoke clears from the take a small white snake sits up and bows to Sasuke and Anko. "Greetings I am Benten. I assume this young man is our newest summoner Anko-sama?" Nodding Anko hides her shock that Sasuke summoned the child of Manda on his first try. "He is Benten-san. This is Sasuke Uchiha and I believe you two will work well together." Slithering up to the Genin who keeps his palm down on the table the small but fast snake quickly makes her way up Sasuke's arm before resting on his left shoulder and looking at the right side of his neck. "Anko-sama why do I sense that traitor's chakra lingering here?"
Barely restraining himself from lifting a hand to where the curse mark was Sasuke looks down at the snake who's string up at him. "That traitor put his curse mark upon me. And I only recently could get it removed." Carefully looking over the young Uchiha the snake nods once more before moving back down his arm to the table. "You'll make a good Snake Summoner Sasuke-san." Ending it's summons the snake disappears in a burst of smoke leaving the others surprised at her words. "Why...Why did she talk like that?" Shrugging her shoulders Anko smiles as she says she honestly doesn't know. "But ignore that. I'll start teaching you snake related jutsu and taijutsu in the coming days." Nodding Sasuke bows before rejoining his team though a small smile is on his face at gaining such a strong summoning contract to sign.
Rolling the scroll back and handing it back to the snake who promptly swallows it whole and ends his summon's Anko steps back with a spring in her step. Happy one of Konoha's oldest and strongest summoning clans is once more in the right Tsunade steps forward and motions for Mito Kazama to step forward. "Fū this is Mito Kazama. In all of Konoha she's probably the best to discovering a new shinobi's true talents. You'll train with her and Shibi-san. And congratulations on being accepted into Konoha. If you want to learn to control that strength I've heard you possess just have Mito-sama teach you of my own chakra enhancement techniques."
Knowing the power Tsunade wields with her techniques Fū has tears in her eyes as she bows to Tsunade and Mito for giving her such an honor. Wiping a few tears away Fū steps back and on instinct reaches out and brushes her hand against Shino's while quietly saying. "I love this village Shino-kun..Can you show me around again after this?" Nodding Shino gets just a little bit closer to the kunoichi as Tsunade looks around the room. "Where was I? Oh yes...Naruto Uzumaki step forward.", stepping forward Naruto notices Mito and Kaito are watching him closely, "Jiriaya wants to take you on a three year training trip starting in one week. During this time he will train you exclusively while Kaito or another Uzumaki will deliver scrolls holding Clan jutsu or seals as well. I'm sure you understand just what this means?"
Nodding Naruto looks over at the his friends before looking back at Jiraiya as he smiles a bit at his protégée. As the gathered Genin and Chunin congratulate Naruto he looks over at Kaito who's smiling at him and nodding. "Hopefully we can get him some missions while he's out there. He's gonna need some experience.." As Tsunade finishes the meeting by calling out a few more names for training Naruto seems to have zoned out entirely. Focusing within himself he soon is standing before a large golden gate within what looks like a sewer. "I know you're there Kyūbi. Come out of the shadows already you jerk."
With steps that could shake mountains the Kyūbi stands before Naruto looking down on him with hate and rage filled eyes. "What do you want human? Is it not enough I have to be sealed within such a moron? Now you need to visit me as well!?" Despite being within his own mind Naruto can almost feel his body be pushed back by the biju's booming voice but refuses to run or back down. "I know you saw and heard what Jiraiya told us after those two came after me. Their group wants you and as a result I'm their target. I say we work together so we both survive this." Glaring down at the boy the Kyubi's tails begin wildly thrashing about as his anger reaches a boiling point as he slowly kneels down so his blood red eyes are level with Naruto's face. "I will not work with a filthy human. Least of all one like you boy. Now go before I tear you apart!"
Dragging his front right claw against the gate the fox glares at Naruto who sighs before he begins walking away. Looking back just before he's totally into the shadows Naruto has a smirk on his face as he looks back at the Kyubi. "Whatever you say Fuzzball. I guess I'll just have to keep asking till you agree." Laughing as he fades away to the sounds of the Kyūbi's rage against his dumb joke Naruto blinks as he returns to the real world just as Tsunade announces the last names. "That will be all. You all are dismissed. And once more congratulations for those of you who were promoted to Chunin."
As the group exits the building the teams agree to meet once more later in the day to celebrate before dispersing to tell their families what happened. Waving goodbye to Hinata and Neji Naruto quickly catches up to Karin and Mito while Kaito and Tsunade head back to work. "So congrats on getting promoted Naruto-nii." Rubbing the back of his head Naruto smiles before laughing loudly and taking off for the clan compound. "I gotta tell EVERYBODY!" Rolling her eyes Karin yells after him that everyone probably heard him earlier but joins him in a race home.
When the two quickly take the rooftops Naruto can't stop himself from randomly leaping high into the air and shouting in celebration. Drawing closer to the clan's home they both see a small crowd of Uzumaki and Kazama waiting for them within. Speeding up Naruto manages to land just before Karin can before rolling forward and sliding to a stop before everyone on his back. Laughing at Naruto a few of the Uzumaki quickly help their overly enthusiastic heir up and begin celebrating when they see the jacket clutched in his hands.
"Alright alright! Well Naruto why are you waiting put that jacket on! You have more than earned it." Smiling up at Kano Naruto nods before quickly taking his usual jacket and slipping into his new flak jacket. Slipping his scrolls and tanto into the straps and pockets before handing his old jacket to Karin. The moment the last scroll is put away a pair of the Uzumaki quickly lift their happy but embarrassed heir into the air and begin cheering as they carry him on their shoulders. "Three cheers for Naruto Uzumaki the number one hyperactive, knucklehead ninja!" As the two clans loudly celebrate for Naruto they soon spill out into the surrounding area where they're met by Uchiha who are celebrating for Sasuke signing such a prestigious contract.
For a moment the two groups try to outdo each other before they begin to celebrate for both boys together which those nearby find surprising but sweet. Pretty soon the two boys are being held up side by side much to their own annoyance as onlookers from across the village come to see what exactly has gotten into the normally stoic Uchiha and has made them act like Uzumakis. Jumping up onto a high fence Mikoto quickly draws everyone's attention with a very loud whistle and manages to quiet the crowd just enough to be heard. "My friends and family I am glad you all are so happy for my son and Naruto but let us remember we aren't the only ones living here. So please if you must celebrate so...boisterously take it to the west park. Though I wonder which of our clans would do a better job of inviting our friends across the village in joining us."
For just a moment the two groups look at their fellows and then back to Mikoto before they begin to quickly rush into the village proper. Left standing Sasuke and Naruto look up at Mikoto who can barely stay atop the fence as she laughs at how quickly the clans spread out. "I think I'm going to have to explain to the Hokage and Council what I may have just started. Say Naruto do you think they'd believe me if I said it was your idea?" Laughing at Mikoto's idea the blonde nods before he takes off for his own house to grab Karin before heading off to grab the others. "Kaasan why did you do that? Our clan isn't usually that involved with others outside of the Police."
Poking her youngest much like his brother does Mikoto smiles down at Sasuke before turning him towards the village and pushing him gently towards it. "Because my little Sasuke-kun we need it and the village needs it right now. Today we're gonna get rid of as much of our clan's well deserved reputation for coldness by having a party with as many villagers as we can. Now go invite your sensei, teammates, and their families to the party." For the next few hours the village is treated to an impromptu celebration hosted by both the least and most serious clans to the point Hiruzen arrives and begins to show off some of the less serious jutsu he created in his long life.
As the sun sets Hiruzen asks for the newly promoted Chunin and their Genin teammates to join him before everyone. "My friends! It has been too long since our village has done something like this and that truly is a shame.", as the villagers loudly agree with their once more former Hokage he raises his hands, "So let's end it with something I am sure very few of you have heard of." Briefly asking Naruto to send a column of wind chakra into the air above him Hiruzen seems to fall into a meditative state for a moment. With surprising speed given his age Hiruzen blurs through a set of handsigns before taking a very deep breath. "Katon: Konoha!"
Looking straight up Hiruzen slowly begins to move his head in a clockwise motion while continuously releasing a stream of flame. Above the astonished crowd the symbol of Konoha soon forms in midair kept alight by the wind natured chakra Naruto released. Ceasing his jet of flame Hiruzen smiles and bows to the cheering villagers before slowly making his way to his son and a few other family members. "I haven't seen that jutsu since the end of the last war. What made you use it now of all times?" Looking up and smiling at his eldest son Hiruzen says in a relaxed and soft voice that the people needed it. Nodding Asuma almost lights another cigarette before putting his lighter away as Kurenai and a few other Jonin walk up to talk. "Go ahead son. Have fun with her and the others."
Muttering about know it alls Asuma nevertheless smiles at his father before joining Kurenai and the others as they move to sit in a large tree at the edge of the park. "You know those brats aren't half bad." Looking down at Anko who's staring almost hungrily at a certain scarred Chunin Asuma smiles and nods. "Yeah they're not half bad. But I think your blonde brat's attitude is gonna spread even to my dear slacker, glutton, & loud mouth." Chuckling as Anko's eyes keep tracking the poor man Asuma and the others roll their eyes as she refuses to go for him. Finally having enough of her make comrades comments Kurenai flips backwards off her branch to sit beside Anko below and whispers something in her ear.
For just a second after she's done speaking Anko is as still and silent as a statue before she nods very quickly. Using one of her snakes to take the small bottle of sake out of Kakashis hands she drains it before leaping off the branch. "Now what did you just tell her to make her do that Kurenai-san?" Looking over at Kakashi to his surprise she winks before she breaks out in a laugh. "Oh don't worry it's nothing I haven't told a certain raven-haired kunoichi and you before." When the party finally comes to a end the village seems almost lighter as if their worries were all washed away by it.
As the groups begin to disperse Naruto and the other rookies sit on a hill just talking as they look at Hokage Rock. "You know Naruto you're a serious pain", hearing Shikamaru say this Naruto facefaults but doesn't say anything when the Nara holds up a hand, "but despite being such a troublesome person you're alright. Plus the village is gonna be real quiet when you leave. So make sure you use those toad and octopus to send some letters. Otherwise me, Choji, and Ino are gonna have to beat you for leaving us in the dark for three years." Laughing at Shikamaru's threat Naruto taps his fist against Shikamaru's while nodding. "Will do. But you better not be lazy when I get back or I'm gonna prank you for a month!"
Rolling his eyes the Nara boy lays back down even as the other's laugh and nod when Naruto asks if they can do this again when he's back. "Oh and Shino!", turning to look at his teammate Shino raises a eyebrow, "I asked Kaito-nii about that idea you had. It's possible so maybe I'll bring some examples back when I'm done with Pervy Sage." Rolling their eyes at Naruto's casual dismissal of one of the Sannin, even if he is right, the teens all lie back. Laying beside one of his best and oldest friends Naruto smiles over at Hinata when he notices she's looking at him. Looking at the others out the corner of his eyes he turns slightly to look at Hinata and pokes her before whispering. "When I'm back would you like to go to a restaurant Emiko-nee told me about?"
Blushing and poking her index fingers together Hinata nods not trusting her voice at the moment. Turning back so he's laying straight back Naruto unconsciously reaches out with his left hand grabbing Hinata's right ever so gently. Blushing so bad she's probably creating new shades of red Hinata moves just a bit closer to Naruto and turns her hand so she can hold his hand. For what seems like forever the Genin and new Chunin all seem to be lost in their own world before a remarkably loud growl sounds from one of them.
As everyone sits up quickly and looks around the growling once more sounds from the most unexpected source Sasuke Uchiha. For just a moment the teens are silent before Naruto begins to laugh so hard he falls backwards as the others begin to join him. Muttering about obnoxious blondes Sasuke stands up and nearly leaves before smirking at Naruto. "Why are you laughing Naruto? Don't think I didn't notice you holding hands with Hinata." For a millisecond the entire group is silent as they look between Naruto, Sasuke, and a increasingly red Hinata.
Simultaneously all hell seems to break loose as almost everyone present begins to shout in shock, anger, embarrassment, and annoyance. For a few moments Neji has to be physically restrained to keep him from grabbing Naruto who's trying to argue he wasn't holding her hand without actually denying it. From a nearby tree Kaito and a few other Jonin watch and barely keep their laughter from reaching the teens. After a few moments Kaito decides it's time for the kids to head home and walks up the hill breaking up the group and sending everyone home.
Dragging Naruto back home while Karin laughs and makes jokes at Naruto the older Uzumaki male laughs as Naruto constantly looks back towards the departing Hyūga. As the various teens finally head to bed for two they can only think back to how the other's hand felt in theirs. Over the next week the teens quickly fall into their new routines training with their various sensei and teammates. As the sun dawns on Friday morning Naruto is alone in his room packing for his trip including a truly obscene amounts of ink, tags, scrolls, and ramen.
Looking up as his clones continue the work Naruto smiles at the photo his team took after Anko-sensei's crazy test. Anko stands behind the three with a snake, they didn't know she'd summoned, looking over her shoulder at the camera while Hinata shyly smiles in the middle between a barely restrained Naruto and the ever stoic Shino. Looking down at his supplies Naruto smiles before jumping up and creating another clone. "Take over for me. I'm gonna go visit everyone before Pervy Sage gets here!"
As Naruto walks outside to his shock he's greeted by almost the entire Uzumaki and Kazama Clans standing behind his friends. Looking around he also spots his friend's sensei, Teuchi and Ayame, Tsunade and Shizune, Iruka who to his shock is standing beside Anko, and others he knew in the village. "Uhhhhh..." From behind him a familiar laugh echos and he turns to see Jiraiya laughing as Hiruzen chuckles before taking another draw from his pipe. "Finally decided to come out eh brat? You didn't think they'd let you leave without saying goodbye did yah?"
Wiping his right arm against his face while muttering about dust Naruto not so subtly wipes tears away before a very bright smile spreads across his face. Very quickly he's inundated by clansmen, friends, and various well wishers saying goodbye while wishing him luck on his training. As Naruto says goodbye to everyone present beyond just words some give him things to take be it Kaida-oba handing him a wreathe to toss into Uzushio's whirlpools, Mikoto Uchiha giving him two Wind jutsu scrolls, Hiruzen giving him a Konoha Chakra Blade modified to use Wind chakra, and other things that he quickly begins to seal away.
But the best part about the blonde's day, though he wouldn't admit it for years, is when the ever shy Hinata rushes up to him, gives him a very warm hug, and in a feat of bravery surprising both of them kisses him on the cheek before wishing him good luck. Not wanting to bring Naruto's mood down just this once those around him decide to give both of them a pass at least for the day. By the time noon rolls around Naruto's supplies for the trip are all sealed away, his goodbyes are said, and his friends and family have begun to disperse except for a few who follow him to the Main Gate.
Saying goodbye one last time Naruto hugs each of his friends and family before he follows Jiraiya down the road. As the two quickly walk out of sight the well wishers begin to disperse until to their shock Naruto it seems is running back without any of his things. For just a moment the shinobi present fear the two were attacked before the clones utters words that will go down in Konoha's long history as his most amazing, or worst, prank ever. "Boss wants everyone to have someone to remember him by! KAI!"
As it dispels itself into a rather large pulse of chakra the clone winks at those present even as it disappears. For just a second those by the gate are silent until bursts of smoke, quickly followed by sounds of anger, shock, and laughter, spread across the village. Like magic seals light up on random houses releasing streams of paint, glue, or other things onto nearby buildings, people, trees, and anything else nearby. Across Hokage Rock paint spreads across the faces making Hashirama look scared, Tobirama look insane, Hiruzen appears perverted, Minato is laughing, and Itachi Uchiha the man most known for remaining cool his face looks like a clown. Looking between each other and the ongoing prank those present begin to laugh so hard they nearly fall over or do in two cases.
Down the road from the village high atop a tree Naruto cackles madly as he see's the smoke spreading across the village. Nearly falling out of the tree Naruto can barely keep himself steady as Jiraiya laughs alongside him. "You know gaki they're going to kill you when you get home." Shrugging his shoulders Naruto keeps laughing before he hears a sound he never thought he would Itachi Uchiha shouting in anger. "NARUTO UZUMAKI GET BACK HERE!" Deciding discretion is the better part of valor the two quickly begin moving away from the village. Looking back one more time Naruto smiles and nods before he begins the newest chapter in his life.

Don't worry I won't show all three years just pieces here and there to cover various things Naruto or the others do & to set up for Part II.
