Austin, Texas
Borrowing a dress from Paula, Sue Ellen prepared for the party. She hadn't called JR yet, she'd been avoiding it because of her own personal feelings about the finality of saying no. She wanted to say yes, really only agreeing to turn down the invitation because Clint had made her feel guilty. It was weighing on her mind but she chose to try to ignore the feelings for now.
"Sue Ellen?"
Paula waved a hand in front of her face to bring her out of her thoughts, thoughts she clearly knew were happening but wasn't clear on the exact nature of.
She hadn't mentioned the conversation with Clint when she'd returned to college and as far as Paula knew she'd received a large amount of flowers and a necklace from her admirer, JR Ewing this morning, then left the house. She hadn't wanted to talk when she returned and Paula had let the subject slide.
"Sorry, I'm ready. Let's go."
They may have had strict rules in their sorority house, but the fraternities on campus lived by a completely different set of rules, there were no boundaries and the party was already in full swing by the time they arrived.
Clint arrived a short time later and after getting a drink, her went in search of Sue Ellen, finding her sitting with a few other girls and some guys from the football team.
He'd learned a long time ago that football players felt entitled to flirt with cheerleaders, even ones that were taken and he'd given up on asking her to not flirt back. Just because he didn't say much, didn't mean that he wasn't bothered by it though, it was something that would happen and there was nothing he could do about it.
Not noticing Clint approaching the group, Sue Ellen was surprised by his public display of affection when he took her hand, pulled her up towards him and kissed her, but she didn't at all mind.
"Hi."
"Hi yourself."
Whispering their spoken greetings after their physical one, they smiled at each other and headed off toward the dancefloor.
Dancing and drinking, the night progressed and people started to get more and more intoxicated, Sue Ellen and Clint no exception.
Sue Ellen wasn't a big drinker, not usually having more than enough to feel pleasantly tipsy, however tonight she didn't hesitate to accept what was offered, she didn't know what it was, but it tasted good. She wanted to let go of her problems and enjoy life and drinking seemed like the answer.
Leaving the dancefloor, they went to sit down for a little while to cool down, finding a corner of the room with a free chair. Sitting down, Clint's lap was comfortable and exactly where she wanted to be.
Soon, the music and atmosphere combined with their alcohol consumption had caused them to lose their inhibitions and the feelings of want heightened. The two began to kiss passionately and Sue Ellen did not object to Clint's hands roaming her body.
Seizing the opportunity, Clint whispered. "Why don't we take this somewhere more private?"
Instead of responding with words, she kissed him again and allowed him to lead her out of the house.
There were taxis waiting, the drivers knew the deal, college students would be coming out all night looking for rides elsewhere, Clint and Sue Ellen no exception.
Telling the driver his address, they soon arrived back at his apartment.
Closing the door behind them, he pushed Sue Ellen back against it, his mouth on hers as his hands felt around for a zipper or buttons on her dress, her hands doing much the same.
Guiding her to the bedroom, his mind raced. He'd waited over a year to get as far as they were now. Sue Ellen had personal rules about things like this, often stopping him before they got any further than was 'appropriate', but tonight she was a completely willing participant.
Drunk himself, he thought little about her state of mind. She was smaller than he was and had started drinking before him, so she was probably more intoxicated, but neither had addressed that or seemed to have plans to address that.
Removing her dress and kicking off her shoes, Sue Ellen was left standing in her underwear. Stepping out of his pants, his shirt laying somewhere on the ground in the living room, Clint lay her on the bed.
Dipping his head to meet her face, he pulled back as something shiny caught his eye.
"Nice necklace."
Making an observational comment, he didn't think much of it until Sue Ellen responded, then he had a few thoughts, none good.
"Oh thanks, it was a gift from JR."
"You're wearing a gift from that man to a party you invited me to after you told me you'd turn down his invitation. Unbelievable. I'd be willing to bet that you still didn't call him either did you?"
Sitting up, he didn't even attempt to control the tone or volume of his voice.
Beneath him, Sue Ellen was quickly sobering, realising just how vulnerable she was at that moment. She was in her underwear; almost about to do something that she promised herself she would wait for.
"I'll take that silence as a no."
His tone was angry and his face that of a man who felt betrayed.
She moved to stand up but felt herself pinned underneath him, a position she had willingly put herself in.
"You made me wait a year to get to this point. I bet JR Ewing wouldn't have to wait a year, he'd have you in bed by the second date."
Panicking, disoriented from the alcohol, she was still alert enough to know exactly how little power she held.
"Please Clint, I'm sorry, I just thought it was a nice necklace, I didn't mean anything by it. You know that I'm committed to you. I'll leave now and we can talk about it tomorrow."
Attempting to move again, this time he held her even tighter, and moving toward her face, he spoke again.
"No, you're not going anywhere, you're going to give me exactly what we came here for. Exactly what JR Ewing would get if I were him."
Holding her arms down, he kissed her hard, not with the loving passion they'd had before but with resentment and frustration.
Scared, she knew she did not want what was about to happen and gathering all her strength she manoeuvred her knee and kicked as hard as she could, taking the opportunity of his pained distraction to slide out from underneath his grip.
Gathering her dress and shoes from the floor, she ran toward the bathroom and locked the door behind her.
Dressing quickly she realised the severity of the situation; she was scared of what he would do when he recovered from the pain. She needed to leave, wanted to leave, but she couldn't leave without passing Clint, the bathroom window no means of escape.
Tears gathering in her eyes, she tried to hold back, but she couldn't. Her cheeks wet and knees weak, she slid toward the ground and cried.
In the bedroom, Clint lay in pain. He couldn't believe what she'd done. She was in the wrong, on all fronts, but he was the one suffering.
Recovering from his own pain, the sound of her distress carried through the door, immediately causing him to feel regretful, despite his feelings regarding her past behaviour.
"Sue Ellen?"
Getting up, he knocked on the door lightly.
Receiving no reply, he knocked again, soon realising that she was scared, scared that if she opened the door, he would continue his plan and succeed.
"Sweetheart, I'm going to call you a cab, just like you wanted. I know you don't trust me right now, but I realise how wrong I was and I'm truly sorry. Please, just open the door."
She was sitting the furthest away from the door as she could get, shaking as she cried. She just wanted to leave, but knew that if he did call her that cab, she'd have to open the door to leave.
"Thank you, I'll just wait in here until the taxi arrives."
Managing to speak, her voice shook as she did.
"Ok, whatever you want."
Leaving the room to make the call, he knew he'd made a mistake and the damage was done.
