Paul's hands clenched in pale whiteness for what seemed the hundredth time since he been sitting by Ash's bedside.
He didn't look up when the Wigglytuff passed back and forth time after time. He knew by now the mon was Nurse Joy's assistant in this region, compared to Sinnoh's whom usually had Chansey.
Meowth and Pikachu were outside building, with all the rest of his and Ash's Pokemon, including Paul's new member. He could see them from the window, but his mind so clouded didn't understand what was being said.
It had been five days since the attack.
Paul called Reggie the minute his 'shock' was gone, and Ash was speed into the emergency room.
He would of called Ash's mom, but his voice was hoarse and broken, and he didn't want to hurt her anymore than the news would. He left it Gary Oak, whom surprisingly called Ash's phone just minutes after he and Ash arrived at the Pokemon center gates.
He later heard from Gary of all their reactions.
His mom was in hysterics, but calmed down after hearing he would be fine (though the large claw mark scar on his back would be different). Paul was just glad she didn't come to Unova and charge in, he's not good with emotions, let alone parents themselves.
Misty seemed the most calm, saying this won't be the first time Ash had gotten hurt on a journey (He didn't know why he felt suddenly sicken at that).
Brock stayed professional, though Paul remembered Ash talking once of him going to become a doctor, so maybe he's trained for this, plus he does have tons of little siblings.
May was worried, but overall knew Ash would be fine. Max meanwhile was more cold but whiny on the whole array, making Paul wonder if he was this moody with Reggie at that age, he might just apologize if he did.
Overall everyone seemed to be used to it, yet it was the blue haired (black haired? He couldn't tell really) girl he traveled in Sinnoh with had said to him.
"Hey Paul! How's Unova?"
Paul shrugged, "It's okay uh..."
The girl suddenly turned red and glared at him from the phone screen up close, "Excuse me?! I have traveled with Ash for a full year in Sinnoh, and yet you still don't know my name? It's DAWN!"
Her Piplup, who was sitting beside her just facepalmed with his flipper, looking at Paul in a deadpan look.
"Geez, chill out would you? Anyway did you get the message from the Oak kid?"
The girl backs up, her face turned back to normal and she nods, "Yeah, but to be honest, this wasn't the first time a Zangoose attacked Ash."
His body suddenly turned numb, "...What?"
"Yeah, it was back when Infernape was a Chimchar. After a scuffle with Team Rocket's Seviper, a group of Zangoose decided to chase them. And since they always go after Pikachu, the Zangoose followed. Chimchar was scared so badly, that when they attacked him, Ash took the hit."
Paul looked away, gritting his teeth, "Zangoose...he never did get over that fear, even after I caught him way back."
"Well he's better now so that's good. Still...it was but a minor scratch compared to what Gary told me. Was it really that bad?"
The blood, so much of it coursing around Ash with the grass almost being flooded with it as the marking streaked across his back, "Yeah it was...so what became of the attack back then? Zangoose claws...aren't brittle."
Dawn shrugs, "To be honest it didn't do much damage. Worst thing was getting over twenty stitches on his shoulder, but other than that, he bounced back as always."
Okay that Paul could agree with, as it seemed he could with anything honestly, even after all he did to him and his Pokemon back then.
"Also know Ash and Infernape, none of his other Pokemon either, hate you, let alone hold a grudge. I mean Ash and a grudge? I've only seen such with Hunter J, so your okay in my books."
Paul didn't know what to say, did Ash and his Pokemon really think that?
"Though you not knowing my name still is a bummer."
"Wow thanks." Paul deadpans before he signs off, but not before her and her starter smile waving.
He then walks back into the room Ash laid, sitting in the same plastic chair he's done for the last five days, "Your making me soft Ketchum...and I don't know how to feel about that."
A/N - Sorry it's short, I want to make longer chapters again...I just don't know how these days.
