12. Reunion with an old Friend.
It was around midnight. The city had gone completely quiet, aside from the occasional Pidgey cawing while flying over. Inside the Pokémon Center everyone had gone to sleep.
Well, everyone aside from Danny.
He was lying on his bed, trying to sleep but unable to.
His mind was constantly replaying the events that expired earlier. He remembered everything so vividly.
"Dive down Starmie!"
Starmie went straight down to the bottom of the pool, far away from Bellsprout's reach. The leaves ran their course and fell down into the pool uselessly.
"Stay on guard Bellsprout, don't let it surprise you!" Danny commanded and Bellsprout nodded. It was twirling around on the plate, looking everywhere to catch a glimpse of the Water-type.
Suddenly, Starmie jumped up from the left side of Bellsprout.
Misty, who was seemingly able to track Starmie's movements, let out a small cheer.
"Now use Psychic!"
Bellsprout, who was part Poison-type, had no chance against such a powerful Psychic-type attack. Danny had Abra seen using it and how powerful it could be, and Abra isn't nearly as strong as Starmie is.
"We just need to train harder," he mumbled, a little too loud.
"What?" Richard answered, half asleep.
"Nothing, sorry I woke you up," Danny quickly reacted.
"Are you still thinking about that battle? Just let it go and go to sleep, there's nothing you can do now."
"There's not anything I can do. I've thought about it and I don't see how I can beat Misty. That Starmie is too fast."
Richard sighed. "Then I guess you must get faster."
He turned around and closed his eyes, but soon regretted giving his advice.
"That's it! We need to get faster!"
Richard turned back and saw Danny sit upright.
"Not now I hope?"
Danny looked at his friend for a second, clearly ready to question why not.
"It's midnight, go to sleep. Your Pokémon won't like you a lot if you wake them up now."
"I guess you're right," Danny said and laid back down, eventually falling asleep.
When the first sunlight made its way into the room, Danny was already up. He stumbled into the main room, but found no-one else was up yet. He took a seat in one of the booths and watched outside.
A jogger came running by on his own, but other than that the outside world seemed completely deserted. The sun was shining though, which gave the city a peaceful sparkle. The fountains were all on, which gave the city a bit of a lively impression.
Danny was so lost in thoughts he didn't even hear Joy enter the main hall.
"You are up early," she said.
He turned around and nodded. "Yeah, I couldn't sleep well."
She smiled softly. Being a trainer might sound great, but there are a lot of insecurities that come with it, especially in the early days.
"Why don't you go and shower while I make some breakfast?"
Danny nodded and walked towards the bathrooms.
Half an hour later and they were all enjoying a nice breakfast. Richard had hardly woken up properly and was sitting, or half sleeping, while Joy and Danny were discussing last day's match.
It wasn't for too long that more people wandered in. Some were citizens of Cerulean that liked to eat breakfast here, others had an early battle and now needed their Pokémon healed. Joy excused herself as she got to work, while Danny returned to staring out of the window, enjoying his eggs with bacon.
The fountains once again drew his attention. Where does that water come from?
When Joy returned to get the plates, Danny decided to ask.
She had to think for a little. "It comes from an underground lake. There is a circulation system that makes sure the water in the fountains returns there as well," she answered.
"An underground lake, that sounds interesting to explore!"
But Richard shook his head. "Oh no, I won't be going into some kind of cavern again in this lifetime. Forget about it, you can go alone."
"Where can I find it?"
"There is an entrance visible when you walk back towards Mt. Moon. The lake lies beneath the entirety of Cerulean City. It was once home to a really strong Pokémon, stronger than any other living in the Kanto region. It was captured by Team Rocket but broke free. It is now rumored to live on New Island."
Danny knew which Pokémon Joy was talking about: Mewtwo. At least, that was the Pokémon that lived in Cerulean Cave in the FireRed and LeafGreen games, the games he was familiar with. But this was the actual Pokémon world, everything might be different here.
"What about Team Rocket?" Danny asked.
"Don't worry about them. They used to be an evil organization, run by Giovanni. But it has been disbanded since," Joy explained. "They won't bother you on your journey."
Danny laughed and agreed, after which Joy returned the plates to the small kitchen, where her Chansey happily started with the dishes.
Danny's mind went back to the games he was so used to playing.
"Mewtwo, the strongest Pokémon in existence. I think I fought it once or twice with my Charizard in game. But now, I don't want to face it now, not with this team. I mean, they are five great Pokémon but nowhere near capable of standing up against Mewtwo, I hope Joy is right and it isn't around anymore."
He had put some bacon aside for Charmander, who had already had some Pokémon food, but the Fire-type appreciated the extra present.
"What do you think, are you ready for a good round of training together?"
Charmander happily growled, his tail swinging back and forth in excitement.
"Great, I hope the rest of the team agrees."
Danny stood up and only now noticed Richard had fallen asleep in the booth. He was still wearing his Squirtle pajamas, clearly indicating his choice for Squirtle was made way before he spoke the words. Speaking of Squirtle, the Water-type was still sound asleep as well.
As silent as they could, Danny and Charmander walked out of the Center and made their way out of the city. Here, he decided to let the rest of his team out.
"So guys, it's a new day. Yesterday we lost but we will come back stronger. To do so, we all need to train."
Everyone seemed game, especially Beedrill and Bellsprout. The duo both thought of themselves as the strongest Pokémon on the team, well aside from Charmander, and they didn't like to lose. Especially not when it matters as much as it did yesterday.
"Great, Nurse Joy told me about an underground lake, which sounds like the perfect place to train."
The group made their way back towards Mt. Moon, trying to find the entrance Joy had talked about earlier.
Beedrill was the first to spot it. Across from a river, which led back into the city, seemed to be an opening into a cave. The cave was an extension from Mt. Moon, but seemed far enough away that there probably wasn't an underground connection between the two.
"Good catch Beedrill! But how do we get there?"
"Are you planning to go there as well?" A girl, probably seventeen years old, walked towards him.
"Yeah, but I don't know how yet."
As she walked closer, Danny could see more of her defining traits. She had brown hair, reaching till her shoulders. Her skin had a tan on it, revealing she spent a lot of time in the sun. She wore short jeans and a red colored t-shirt.
"What do you want to do there?" She asked curiously.
"Nurse Joy told me about a lake there, I would like to train there and become stronger."
"Well then you are in luck. I can get you across with my boat. Well, it's actually my dad's boat, but I can use it whenever I go there to explore or train."
"Well, if I can tag along, that would be awesome. I'm Danny by the way."
"Michelle," the girl answered with a smile. "But I don't think your entire team would fit on the boat, you'll have to return them to their Pokéballs."
Danny nodded and called everyone back, aside from Charmander.
"Well let's go then, time for training," Michelle said.
"Room for one more?"
The two turned around to see Richard and Squirtle walk towards them. Apparently, he had woken up again and was in the mood for an adventure.
"I thought you didn't want to go into a cave?"
"Well staying behind in the city by myself was no fun either. Besides, once I told Squirtle about that lake he really wanted to come."
Danny quickly introduced Michelle and Richard to each other, before the three walked towards the river.
Michelle led them to a small cabin with a locked door. It led to a pier where a small boat, barely large enough for the three of them, floated. Danny returned Charmander as well, just because the space was already small and with Charmander's fear of water. He didn't want any panic. Squirtle, on the other hand, jumped into the water and swam across by himself.
Danny and Richard each took an oar and started rowing. Michelle had offered to row as well, but the two boys agreed that by taking them across, she had done her part. Michelle did not mind at all and actually had a chance to enjoy the track.
"So, what makes you want to train here?" Michelle asked after the boat had landed on the other side. She was the last to get out and strapped the boat to a small pole.
"Well, I kinda lost against the gym leader yesterday," Danny reacted. "And a lake seems perfect to train for the rematch."
"You lost to Misty?" Michelle asked, surprised.
"Yes, I did."
"That's funny," she started, causing Danny to frown.
"Misty is a good friend of mine and I was at her gym yesterday evening. She told me about a trainer with a Bellsprout that lost to her, I'm guessing that was you."
Danny nodded. "We couldn't beat her Starmie."
Meanwhile, Richard felt the familiar fear creeping up again, so he decided to get a distraction.
"So you and Misty are good friends?"
"Yeah we are. We grew up together and we train together as well."
"Is there any chance I can have a match with you?" Danny asked, which caused Michelle to laugh.
"Sure!"
She led them through the entrance, which was not as dark as Mt. Moon had been.
"I have to admit, this place still gives me the chills. Mewtwo used to live here and that aura still hangs in this place."
Now Danny got the chills though, not to mention Richard. He felt like Mewtwo could attack them any minute now.
After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at a small gap in the floor.
"Here we go."
Michelle was the first to descend down, followed by Danny. Richard decided to return Squirtle, to avoid losing him somewhere, and was the last to come down. Constantly switching between holding his breath and reminding himself he needed to breath.
Both boys started to panic when it felt like the hole was endless, but first Danny and then Richard as well, felt solid ground underneath their feet again within minutes.
"Now turn around," Michelle said.
When they did, they saw the most beautiful scenery they've seen so far.
A lake, surrounded by the purple walls of the cave. It was so pure they could see the bottom. Small stalagmites were in an eternal descent from the ceiling.
The lake also had something familiar to it. Two large round plates made of stone were on opposite sides of the lake, while six small ones were scattered throughout it.
"The guy that was the Gym Leader before Misty found this lake and modelled the gym after it," Michelle explained. "If you train here, it will be the perfect preparation for your rematch."
Danny nodded in awe, still a bit impressed by the wonderful looks the cave and lake had.
"Now, about that battle you wanted with me."
Michelle took a leap and jumped onto one of the two plates. Unlike the plates in the gym, these were solid rocks all the way down and didn't move.
The trainer nodded and jumped onto the plate on the other side, this time with more grace.
"Well I only have one Pokémon with me, so I can't give you more than a one-on-one battle."
"That's not a problem at all," Danny responded.
"Alright then. Butterfree, come on out!"
Danny looked up and saw the Butterfly Pokémon emerge from its Pokéball.
As had become a habit, he took out his Pokédex to register it.
Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokémon. Butterfree is the evolved form of Metapod. The scales covering its wings help it to shed water.
"It's up to you Beedrill!"
Beedrill, being one of the two with a bruised ego, definitely needed a friendly battle to make him feel better about himself again.
The Poison-type immediately recognized the pattern and, for a second, believed he was back in Misty's gym for the rematch.
"Let's start things off with Confusion!"
Butterfree's eyes grew purple and it fired a purple beam towards Beedrill, who was not alert enough to dodge it.
Danny grinded his teeth when he saw the hit happen above his head, but Beedrill didn't flinch at all.
"That's a strong Beedrill you have there, most Poison-types don't like a Confusion attack," Michelle commented.
"Thanks! Beedrill believes he has to make up for something, so he will be a tough one to beat today. Use Fury Attack!"
Beedrill flew in and hit Butterfree fast and hard, his drills striking at Butterfree's main body.
Both Michelle and Danny already felt a cramp starting in their necks from looking up all the time, but at the same time they didn't want to miss a thing.
"Use Confusion again!" Michelle ordered.
"Dodge it," Danny quickly said in response to Michelle's order, but being so close to Butterfree, Beedrill had no chance to escape.
This time, it hit harder than before. It flew away from Butterfree, but it seemed to be flying in circles, almost as if it was sleep flying.
"Well done Butterfree, confusing it is a brilliant idea," Michelle said to praise Butterfree, who appreciated the nice words by flying in a vertical circle.
"Beedrill, use Poison Sting!" Danny ordered. He hoped Michelle's conclusion was wrong and that Beedrill was only a bit dazed, but he soon realized it was true.
Beedrill didn't react and flew only in a round, each time barely avoiding hitting one of the stalagmites hanging down.
"Can you hear me Beedrill!?"
No reaction.
Danny grinded his teeth again, something he should really stop doing, while he decided what to do next. If Beedrill couldn't fight, they couldn't win. Forfeiting was not an option, Beedrill would never forgive him if he did. And losing again would definitely be another big hit on Beedrill's confidence.
"Let's end this, use Tackle!" Michelle commanded from the other side of the lake. Butterfree flew towards Beedrill to strike the decisive blow, but Beedrill's subconscious saved it. It suddenly changed direction, causing Butterfree to fly by it, into one of the Stalagmites.
Danny jumped up in excitement, thinking the confusion was broken, but Beedrill was still flying around in circles, just in another direction.
"use Gust!" Michelle took no risks this time, a Gust would guarantee a knockout by now.
"Beedrill, if you hear me. Please use Poison Sting!"
The words seem to reach Beedrill, because the bee turned around and looked Danny in the eyes and slowly nodded, before sending a purple pin in Butterfree's direction. The latter didn't expect something in return and was too surprised to even launch the Gust attack.
"It already escaped the confusion!?" Michelle said astonished.
Butterfree was off balance now and Danny immediately took that opportunity to strike.
"Twineedle, quickly!"
From his rocky plateau Danny watched as Beedrill's drills collided with Butterfree once again, causing the Flying-type to fall down and plunge into the water.
Michelle quickly returned Butterfree to its Pokéball.
"Well, that took an unexpected turn. Congrats," Michelle said.
"Good job Beedrill! You were amazing!" Danny praised, causing Beedrill to beam with pride.
"I think this is the perfect place to continue training," Danny said, ready to let his team free, when they heard a rumble near the entrance.
They all looked and saw a younger boy run in.
"Michelle!"
The girl jumped off her plateau to see who it was.
"One of dad's Pidgey has returned and it has a bandage on its wing. I got here as soon as I could," the boy practically screamed.
Michelle's face showed surprise and curiosity, causing her to almost run towards her brother immediately.
"Sorry guys, I have to go with my little brother right now."
"A Pidgey with a bandage, could it be….?"
"Would you mind if we tag along? That description sounds familiar," Danny asked.
Michelle nodded. "just follow my brother Ron."
Danny quickly returned Beedrill and they all climbed up again, away from the beautiful lake. Before they knew it, they were standing outside again.
"Did you swim over here Ron?" Michelle asked, seeing Ron was leaving a trail of water drops.
"I needed to reach you and you had already used the boat. I forgot to bring Seel so yeah, I swam."
Only now Danny and Richard realized the boy's red T-shirt and blue trousers were completely soaked.
"Well then it's a good thing you can come with us in the boat," Richard laughed.
They all jumped into the, now really too small boat, and Michelle pulled off the rope, causing the boat to drift towards the mainland again. Danny and Richard did some rowing but with the limited space to move in, they were lucky the current brought them back.
As soon as they set foot on the pier they ran away, with Michelle making sure the boat wouldn't drift off and locking the door after she closed it. Ron was up front, leading the group towards a small house near the edge of Cerulean City.
As they arrived, their father was already waiting for them.
"You won't believe it, but that Pidgey with the attention problems returned with a bandage around its wing. After two and a half months I didn't think we'd ever see it again."
He scratched his bearded chin, clearly dazzled by the fact this Pidgey was back home now. He looked like he was in his forties, but his eyes had a youthfulness to them. He wore a black jacket and pants in the same color.
He suddenly seemed to realize his children had brought guests.
"I'm sorry, my name is Rarrel and I'm the father of these two."
The two boys shook his hand and introduced themselves as well, but Michelle couldn't wait. She ran past her dad, towards a small building next to the house. The others followed her.
When they walked in, the barn was filled with large sticks that reached from one wall to another. Multiple Spearow and Pidgey were sitting on it. Some were eating, others were in a conversation or simply napping.
"There are more Pidgey and Spearow than you see here," Rarrel explained. "But some of them are on the road."
In the middle of the barn, near the back wall, was a table. Michelle was standing in front of it, seemingly inspecting the returning Pidgey.
As Danny walked closer he noticed the large bags of Pokémon food in one corner and multiple bags of ribbons on the other side. When he reached the table, his expectation had become reality. The Pidgey that was now sitting in front of him was the same Pidgey he had met on Route 3, where Mikey had been a tyrant.
The surprise in Pidgey's eyes grew as it realized who was standing in front of it. Surprise quickly made place for happiness and it jumped up, right into Danny's arms.
The others had caught up by now and just as Michelle, Rarrel and Ron were shocked to see what was happening.
"Out of all of the things I imagine this Pidgey doing, this is the last I would've guessed," Rarrel said.
"Why is that?" Richard asked confused, while Danny was busy cuddling with the Pidgey now, happy to see it again.
"Well it doesn't seem to trust humans. It rarely sits on the arms of Michelle and Ron and even I can't cuddle with it, even though I've raised it for two years now."
Michelle turned to Richard for an explanation, considering Danny was too occupied.
"Do you have any idea what happened and why Pidgey seems to trust Danny? Michelle asked.
"Well, it's a rather long and unpleasant story. Back when we were on Route 3, there was this kid named Mikey. He terrorized a forest there."
He thought back to how he and Danny had found that Caterpie, all wounded, which led to the conflict between them and Mikey.
"We beat him in a Pokémon fight and he left, so we could treat all the Pokémon he had been hurting. Among them was this Pidgey. Danny took care of it. While it was frightened at first, it ended up trusting Danny to the point it didn't want to leave. It even pecked one of the nurses and only went with them after Danny had said it was okay."
"Wow…" was all Michelle could say.
"Danny must be really good with Pokémon if he gained the trust of this Pidgey."
Meanwhile, Danny was too busy telling Pidgey all the things they've been through since they first met. He told him about their travels through Mt. Moon and how he had just lost to Misty, which seemed to upset Pidgey a bit. But the Normal-type was happy to hear Beedrill, who had helped back on Route 3, just defeated Michelle's Butterfree, a Pokémon Pidgey couldn't really get along with.
It wasn't like Pidgey couldn't get along with other Pokémon. It got along with the other Pidgey and Spearow here just fine. It was only that Butterfree that always wanted to help, something Pidgey found quite annoying.
After talking for another five minutes, Rarrel intervened.
"I'm sorry Danny, but I think Pidgey needs some rest,"
Rarrel tried to pick it up, but Pidgey did not want that. It pecked the older man in his finger, causing him to shout out in pain. Pidgey jumped up, ready to defend itself further.
"Calm down Pidgey, it's okay," Danny said and Pidgey calmed down again, now allowing Rarrel to pick it up.
Michelle and Ron watched with growing amazement and surprise.
Rarrel carefully felt the wing of Pidgey.
"It feels strong, they must have treated it well. The nurses must have decided it was healthy enough to make the flight."
"Well I'm just glad it got here safely," Danny said, petting Pidgey on the head. "I'm going to train now, but I'll come visit you again."
Pidgey happily cawed and watched as Danny and the others left the barn.
"Back to the lake?" Michelle asked, but Danny shook his head.
"My stomach thinks it's almost lunchtime so we're going towards the Pokémon Center first, maybe after that."
"If you want you can eat lunch here, I can make some sandwiches, not a problem," Rarrel said.
Danny and Richard were surprised by the hospitality and happily accepted the offer. During lunch, they talked more about their journey so far and to say the least, the Cerulean inhabitants were surprised to hear how much the two had already experienced.
"I'm never setting a foot in Mt. Moon again," Ron said.
After the lunch, Danny decided to do some training here. Rarrel had told them about the business he was in: delivery. All those Spearow and Pidgey were delivery birds. Rarrel was one of the top deliverers in the Kanto region, which caused Danny to be interested in how it would work.
But first training. Danny let out Bellsprout to start gaining more speed.
The Grass-type was excited to start training, but even more for the rematch.
"Beedrill did some battling tomorrow, now it's your turn. We need to be faster if we want to beat Misty."
"Not just faster," Michelle added. "Misty likes to battle using the full arena, so you should always expect something coming out of the water from every angle."
Danny nodded and let out the rest of his team. Richard decided to do the same, but mostly because they had been in their Pokéballs all morning and Squirtle and Sandshrew loved the outdoors.
"Does Misty like you giving advice to a challenger?" Richard asked while they were standing nearby.
"I don't think she'll mind, in the end I'm not doing the battling," Michelle reacted. Richard nodded, that was true.
Bellsprout was standing in the middle and Charmander, Abra and Krabby were standing in a circle surrounding Bellsprout.
Danny had collected a bunch of tiny pebbles and twigs, which Abra could throw at Bellsprout. The Grass-type's job would be to avoid all of the attacks.
The Flower Pokémon started off well, avoiding an Ember from Charmander and a pebble from Abra, but Krabby's bubble hit it, causing it to fall.
"Try to stay as quiet as possible and focus," Danny said.
Unnoticed, Pidgey had heard the training going outside and frankly, it didn't want to rest. It glided off the table and walked towards the entrance of the barn, where it had a good view of the training.
Bellsprout nodded and tried to focus again. This time it could hear Krabby prepare a Bubble attack and it jumped up to avoid it. Just at that point Charmander decided to use Ember, which hit the vulnerable Bellsprout.
Not happy, but determined to continue, Bellsprout got back up. Charmander put no power behind the Ember so the attack did no damage, it was just an annoyance that it hit.
The Flower Pokémon tried again. Jumping aside to avoid the twig Abra threw and directly diving down to avoid Charmander's Ember. It got back up and ran to the left, causing Krabby's Bubble to miss, but once again was not fast enough to stop Charmander's Ember from hitting.
While it got back up, Pidgey flew in and landed next to Bellsprout.
Danny reacted surprised. "Pidgey, what are you doing here?"
Richard and Michelle had been talking and had not been paying attention to Danny's training, but when they heard the word 'Pidgey' they looked up and were surprised to see Pidgey gesturing for Bellsprout to leave the circle.
Danny was just as surprised and didn't know what it was Pidgey wanted to do, while Bellsprout wasn't comfortable giving up his place in this training already.
"Are you sure you want to try?" Danny asked and Pidgey nodded heavily, causing its brown feathers to shake wild.
"Well okay then, be even more careful with your attacks guys. Abra, why don't you sit this one out?"
Abra had already fallen asleep and was not going to be participating anyway. Danny had to grin, was it ever going to change?
Pidgey got into battling position and seemed ready for any attack, but both Charmander and Krabby were hesitant to make the first move.
Bellsprout didn't, and released a single, not so sharp leave towards Pidgey, who flew up and easily avoided it. Having wings gave it an advantage over Bellsprout, but still. The speed and agility Pidgey displayed was incredible, or at least that's what Danny was thinking.
Charmander fired off an Ember into the air, which Pidgey easily dodged, the same goes for Krabby's Bubble and another attack from Bellsprout.
While they kept going, others gathered around them. When Pidgey got hit by an Ember, there was a bit of a scare, but Pidgey got back up with no problems and flew up like it had never done anything else.
"You are doing amazing Pidgey!" Danny cheered, as Pidgey kept on dodging moves from all sides of the circle.
Seeing how Pidgey was battling gave Rarrel an idea.
"Can I speak with you Danny?"
"Yeah sure. You guys keep going, remember, don't hit too hard."
"I would like to ask you a favor," the older man started.
"As you know, I use my Pidgey and Spearow to deliver mail all over Kanto, but this Pidgey isn't very good with humans. It has delivered more problems than mail," Rarrel said. Danny looked at him, but the man didn't laugh. "I've always thought Pidgey wanted to do something different, but I can't give him that life. He can't get along with Michelle either, so that was ruled out. But today, I've seen how it acts around you."
Danny had a clue where Rarrel was going with this.
"Do you want me to ask Pidgey if it wants to join my team?"
Rarrel nodded, which made Danny's heart jump up. He had missed Pidgey since they left and was so happy to see it again this morning.
"I have a lot of Pidgey and Spearow, I can't always give them a lot of attention. Most of them don't care that much, but this Pidgey needs that attention. It needs someone who will look after it and care for it, more than I can."
"Sir, I would love to have Pidgey in my team," Danny said, trembling with excitement, so much that it caused Rarrel to smile. "Well let's see if it wants that too."
Danny practically ran back towards his team, causing them to stop and look up curiously. Of course, they had heard some mumbling, but they didn't know what the talk was about.
Their trainer kneeled down next to Pidgey, who seemed to feel something was up.
"Pidgey, I talked with Rarrel and he asked me if I wanted to take you with me. With us," Danny said, pointing towards his team.
Both Michelle and Ron turned to Rarrel for confirmation, and he nodded.
The happiness that was visible in Pidgey's eyes when it saw Danny again earlier today was back and it jumped onto Danny, who fell back by the sudden movement, but happily cuddled the Tiny Bird.
"I think that's a yes," Richard laughed.
When Pidgey finally decided to let go of its new trainer, Danny took the last empty Pokémon on his belt and put it on the ground in front of Pidgey. It cawed and pecked the button in the middle, causing it to be absorbed into the device, which confirmed the capture immediately.
"Come on out Pidgey!"
Pidgey was being crowded by the other Pokémon, including Richard's team, which gave Danny a chance to walk up to the other humans.
"Thanks again," Rarrel said, but Danny shook his head.
"No thank you. Pidgey is not just a great Pokémon and friend, but I think it will help a lot of my upcoming gym battle."
They spend the rest of the afternoon over there. Rarrel explained a bit more about what exactly it is that he's doing and how it's done. During the afternoon, Pidgey did not leave Danny's side.
Before they left, late in the afternoon, Pidgey said goodbye to his former family, but all were at least a bit happy the little troublemaker was going its own way. And for Pidgey? Well, it couldn't be happier with its new family.
