Danny woke up to the smell of freshly baked cookies. When he opened his eyes he saw a familiar ceiling. His ceiling. Well, that from his old room.
Wait, why was he here?
When he stood up he realized what day it was. The green/red colored socks that hanged from his closet gave it away: it was Christmas. He looked to his old desk. A small snowman was standing proudly on his music installation, a small switch underneath it would light up it up in all kinds of colors.
Danny loved Christmas. He vaguely remembered coming home yesterday with Richard and Janine and how excited he had been to get here.
Overjoyed, he stormed down to see a gigantic Christmas tree in the middle of the living room. Before it, Weepinbell had made itself a nice place to sleep, prominently in the living room. Richard and Janine had crashed on the couch and all the Pokémon laid somewhere in the room or kitchen. Machoke had found a chair and Krabby had jumped into a filled (with water) sink. Pidgey had the best place though, close to the top of the tree.
"That's is one filled living room, right love?" Jack said to his wife, Janice, as they entered the kitchen as well and faced the same way as Danny did. Janice kissed her husband on his cheek.
"Merry Christmas guys" Danny said as he hugged his parents.
"Good morning everyone." Richard got up, stretching a bit.
"Thanks for letting us crash here." Janine added, now also awake.
"Of course, a friend of Danny is a friend of ours." Janice said. "Come on, breakfast is about to be ready."
The entire day they did games, hung out a bit and even watched an old movie: Rudolph the red-nosed Stantler, but Danny's favorite moment of Christmas was the dinner. Every year it was a great moment, but he realized as time went by, neither one of his parents had started getting anything ready.
"When will we start eating?" He asked his mother in a whisper-tone.
"Dinner will come soon." Janice answered.
Danny looked at his mother. "What do you mean?"
Just before Janice could say anything, the doorbell rang. "That's our dinner and some special guests." Jack said with a grin.
He opened to door and professor Oak walked in, followed by a bunch of Pokémon, all carrying something. All kinds of food. Vegetables and some fried Magikarp. Wine and child champagne for the under 18's.
"Wait, Beedrill?"
Danny hurried towards the door as he saw the bug type fly through, holding a bottle of red wine. Beedrill was happy to see his friend again and by accident dropped the bottle, but Mankey was quick enough to catch it.
"Merry Christmas!" Oak said.
With him were not only Danny's Pokémon, also Jack's. Venusaur and Rhydon didn't fit through the door so they traveled around the house straight to the garden. The other Pokémon were just wild Pokémon that lived with Oak.
"The saloon has been heated up all day, so it's nice and cozy." Jack said as he led the parade of Pokémon (and Oak) towards the back of the house, were the saloon was. It was almost entirely made of glass, but it was indeed warm. All Pokémon put their brought piece of food on the table and started relaxing. There was room enough for even the biggest of the Pokémon to fit in. (Although Jack thanked his lucky stars there wasn't an Onix).
All people gathered around the table and sat down.
"Are we expecting anymore guests?" Janice asked.
"Two more" Jack answered. "Oh, and Richard's parents are coming."
Richard looked up surprised. "Really?"
"Yeah" a male voice said. Richard's parents opened the glass door and walked in, Richard ran towards them to hug them.
"Merry Christmas mom and dad."
"A merry Christmas to you too son."
Richard looked nothing like his parents. Where he had long, black hair, both of his parents had brown hair, and a lot shorter.
The last two guests followed quickly. The first one was Marcel, who Danny didn't even knew would come.
"Christmas is the time of friendship and peace, no time for rivalry." Jack said on a fierce tone to his son.
Danny sighed, but did shake hands with his rival.
The final guest was Maisie, who Jack had tracked down with help from Janine, who had informed Jack the night before.
"Welcome to our house." He said as Maisie entered the saloon. "Thank you and thanks for inviting me!"
"H-hey Maisie!" Danny walked towards her and the two hugged.
"Not this again." Janine sighed, which got her Richard's elbow between her ribs. "Let them be."
When the welcomes were out of the way, everyone made their way towards the table. The Pokémon on the other hand had their own place for celebration.
"Before we sit down, I would like to say a few words." Danny held up his glass of champagne.
Everyone cheered by the sight of a speech.
"A year ago I could never have dreamed I would be standing here, with all this wonderful people and Pokémon around me. My team has helped me so much in the last few months and I can't express in words how proud I am of you. Along the way I met a lot of great people (and Marcel). I would like to thank everyone for a great year and let's hope next year will be even better!"
Everyone joined in with a joint "Cheers" before Danny sat down.
"Enjoy your dinner!" Oak said as he took a bit of salad to go with his Magikarp.
"Danny sat next to Maisie and they had their own little toast, while Richard had to share his food with Eevee, who expected a privileged place.
"Are you sure this is roasted?" Janine asked Oak, looking at her piece of meat.
Charmeleon overheard and decided to help out and used Ember on the piece of meat. Oak started to laugh. "If it wasn't already it is now."
Janine had already dropped her fork, which was also fried.
"Thanks Charmander" she said on a quasi-irritated tone. Charmeleon nodded in approval and continued on his feast: All kinds of festively designed statues made of Pokémon food.
Danny looked around and felt happy, truly happy. Across him sat Marcel and Danny raised his glass towards his rival, who saw it and followed.
"How about a more friendly rivalry in the next year?" Danny asked.
"If you start actually training I can do that." Marcel said, before he burst into laughter. Danny laughed too.
Like I said, truly happy.
Too bad Richard had to come along to wake him up from the dream.
"Danny! Danny!" Richard shook Danny until he was awake.
"What's wrong?" Danny asked.
"You were making strange noises, we thought you'd might be choking." Richard reacted concerned.
Danny shook his head. "I just had a beautiful dream. What time is it?"
"Time to go." That was Janine.
Danny nodded and got dressed. Within halve an hour they were on their way again and the Christmas dream seemed far away, but what they didn't see as a small snow crystal falling down, followed by another, and another. Slowly but surely the ground was covered in them.
Merry Christmas to you all! This is just something I threw together, I hope you all like it. I also hope you have a wonderful day
