"Nooo, Albus tell me they aren't…Danielle is she" Remus fell to his knee outside of Godrick Hollow, the house was in ruins, deep down he knew his best friends were gone, Lily the woman who was the closest thing he had to a sister, and Danielle his year old niece, they all had gone through great lengths to protect her.

"I'm sorry Remus" Albus said solemnly until they heard a child's cry coming from inside. Remus raced inside tears in his eyes as he saw the body of his friend James, as he ran to the nursery he saw Lily on the ground in front of her daughters crib and there was Danielle staring up at Remus with a lightning bolt scar on her forehead. Focusing only on the child Remus lifted his niece out of her crib and held her, rocking her slowly whispering.

"Hey Cub, Moony's here, you're ok, you're ok" Remus said again and again to reassure himself that his niece was in fact alive. Finally he realized…"He should be here, give him back his memories, let him see his wife, his daughter needs him." Remus said referring to Severus Snape who had risked his life to be a spy to the light.

"We don't know what happened here, we need him on the inside more than ever." Albus said

"HIS WIFE IS DEAD, HIS CHILD ALMOST DIED" Remus growled causing the baby in his arms to whimper

"I will tell him what has happened, until then we have to get Danielle to Petunia" Albus said producing a letter describing what has happened

"You cant be serious, I'm her Godfather she'll stay with me" Remus said in disbelief

"She needs to be surrounded by blood ties, that is where she will be most protected" Albus explained

"Severus and Lily chose me that if anything ever happened to them she would be with me" Remus said not mentioning the traitor they also chose.

"It is not safe for her to be raised by you or in the wizarding world, trust me Remus if you truly love this child and want her safe, this is the only option." Albus said

"I'm sorry cub, I'll see you soon." Remus kissed the child's head and handed her to Albus and away they went.

Severus Snape was not an emotional man, he was focused clear minded, which made for an excellent spy, but when Albus informed him that the woman he loved, the woman he believed he lost to his childhood bully, was murdered he raced to the house where she laid. Seeing her, pale cold dead body he broke down, he cried, screamed, held her in his arms, tears streaming down his face. Finally he looked toward the empty crib not knowing that his child had just survived the killing curse and wouldn't be seen for the next 10 years
