PROLOGUE

It was strange to be alive once more.

For almost a thousand years, Esther had watched from the Other Side as her children wreaked havoc on the world. Countless lives taken, towns laid to waste, all because of Esther's selfishness. She had been too blinded by her own arrogance to believe the warnings given to her by those who knew better. Her grief – the grief of a mother who had lost her child – was overpowering and so she had sought to protect the rest of her children from harm, consequences be damned.

She should have listened.

"Mother?"

But there was still a chance to make it right.

Turning to face her eldest boy, she smiled warmly at him and beckoned him closer. He complied, shutting the door to her temporary room and let the sage wash over him.

"Privacy spell, mother?" Finn questioned, raising a brow.

"I believe this topic is one your siblings will not like," Taking his hand in hers, she stared into his eyes and was reminded of that which she had lost long ago. "Finn, I have a chance to correct my mistakes and I believe you are the only one who will understand. Can I trust you?"

Just as she expected, he answered with a swift, "Of course, mother."

Stepping away from her son Esther rounded the table that was in front of them, several items perched atop of it. It had proved difficult to smuggle these items into her room without raising the alarm of her children but she had managed. The plan she had been working on for many years was finally starting to come into place.

"I wish to finally end the torment that I not only brought upon my children, but the world as well," Esther explained. "To bind you all together will ensure that what happens to one will happen to all."

Finn eyed the items which sat upon the table, his hands clasped behind his back as he thought over her words. Esther knew he would agree to her plan because out of all her children, Finn hated his nature the most. There was no doubt that he would join her.

"I would be happy to be the one to help you, mother," Finn finally spoke. "But you are right. The others will not be happy about this."

"They will not know."

Finn did not seemed surprised by her statement, nor did he object to it. Warmth spread through her chest and she recalled when he had been a young boy, following her around with adoration in his eyes as she went about her daily duties. He had grown colder in the small number of years he had walked the Earth, unhappy with immortality – with life – but he was still that little boy at heart.

"What do you need for the spell?"

"The spell is to be performed on the full moon," Esther said. Her hand ran over the candles and the rest of her sage as she explained her plan. "In order for me to succeed, you must all be linked by this coming Saturday. To link you I must acquire the doppelganger's blood."

Finn's eyebrow rose in surprise. "That will be difficult."

"Not as difficult as one might presume," Esther said with a smirk. "I have a plan, my son, one that will ensure your siblings do not suspect a thing. But there is one thing we must do before we start."

"What is it?"

Drawing in a deep breath, Esther spoke.

"We must find Arabella."

Esther had hoped that she could continue the ritual without bringing her youngest daughter back but the spell required them all to be linked, and in order for that to happen, they must all drink the wine she intends to lace with doppelganger blood. Her heart hurts as she imagine what sort of pain her daughter was in – how sane would she be after all these years? It had made Esther hesitate with her plan when she first thought it over. Would it just be too cruel to offer Arabella her life again, only to end it permanently? Briefly she even considered letting her youngest stay in the cave Mikael trapped her into but it passed just as quick. Esther loved her children, even after all this time, even after all the atrocious crimes they committed over the centuries, and so she would not leave her daughter to continue in pain. It seemed the least she could do.

"Fetch Elijah," Esther ordered her eldest son. Waving her hand at the sage, it stopped burning and the privacy spell was broken. "I believe he will the most interested in what I have to say."

Finn complied, though she knew he was curious; the others had explained what had happened to their sister last night and as far as they knew, their sister had died at the hands of their father. They were wrong.

Death would have been a kindness.

Hello lovelies! How are you?

So, here it is. This is the rewritten prologue of 'Little Light'. It's not very long, I know, and I was going to wait to post it until I had written a few more chapters but I've been keeping you waiting for awhile, so I thought I would post this. It's a bit different from the first prologue but I like this one better. Hopefully there is no spelling mistakes because I actually proof-read this time but let me know if you find any.

Hi anyone who is new! And for those who aren't, you've probably noticed that there is only this chapter available now in this story. I was debating starting again instead of adding to this one but I hate when other authors do that, do I didn't. It's easier for other people to find it. Anyway, I took the other chapters down, starting from scratch. I'm leaving the message up from before until I post chapter one and anyone who asked to know when I posted with be getting message in their inbox very soon.

Thank you again for all the support and hopefully I'll be able to keep up with this - and myself - this time.

Be kind everyone.

xx
