Apart from work Ava's work, excitement had been pretty non-existent in her life up until this point. Her daily routines usually consisted of long walks around the green London parks, disappearing into the world of books and visiting her sister and mum. However, Ever since she had joined the Order of Phoenix it was suddenly filled with helping out With the Order's different missions and going to meetings at Grimmauld Place with loud and filling dinners afterwards. Ava couldn't ever remember being so occupied with anything and it was nice for a change - not having to drown herself with things to do to occupy her time.
The missions usually included spying on suspected Death Eaters, other times it was checking up on Harry or taking turns durning evenings to stay outside the Department of Mysteries for those ones that worked at The Ministry of Magic.
The summer seemed to finally set in the English capital and there was an heat wave coming soon being announced on all radios. Ava wore a white linen dress as she stepped in the now familiar gate of Grimmauld Place. She had by now learned not to knock but using her wand to open the door to not send the painting in the hallway into a great frenzy.
Sirius was standing leaned against the stair railing as he was waving his wand at the wall and some dust was disappearing into thin air. He was wearing a navy t-shirt and black trousers. His hair was pulled into a messy bun. They really hadn't spoken much since the first time she had arrived. There was something very intimidating about him that reminded of her all of those popular people at Hogwarts that had never given her a second glance. 'How was Harry?' Sirius asked eagerly from the staircase, as her feet passed through door step and he saw her face.
It had been Ava's shift earlier that day to watch Harry. Harry hadn't really done much, he either seemed to spend time taking walks around the neighbourhood or locked in his bedroom. He had lately taken to hide under the window in the flower beds in order to listen to the television, which broke Ava's heart a bit. It was not difficult to start despising the Dursleys. She overheard them several times shouting at him for no reason like watching the news. Their own their son however got away with everything; a very large boy; whom seemed to be up to no good most of the time, she had seen him drinking heavily and smoking in the park and scare small children away with his friends. Ava had really taken a liking to Harry, there was something very heart wrenching and familiar seeing him so alienated and lonely and she had to stop herself several times to not blow her cover and hug him or try to hex the Dursleys.
'I don't think he's having the easiest time at his uncle and aunt. They don't seem like very nice people so I think he is getting frustrated but…he is alive and healthy.' She said.
At first Sirius looked at her and seemed to drift into thoughts.
'Yes, he's told me they aren't very nice. I know what that is like.' said Sirius in a short breath. Ava gave him a quizzable look back as he made his way down the stairs.
'My family were obsessed with being pureblood, as you can tell from this house.'
'You grew up here?' She asked surprised. Trying to imagine steps of children's shoes clanking on the wooden floor in this house just seemed very out of place.
'Yes, until I was 16 and ran away.'
'Where did you go?'
'I went to live with Harry's dad James family. Then I inherited money from an uncle and got my own flat'
'It must be really awful to be back here.' She hadn't meant to say that, it has just blurted out but Sirius didn't seem to care but just nodded lightly.
'Nearly beats Azkaban. But it's about the only useful thing I could do for the Order' He said in a cold voice and Ava felt an urge to hug him as well or touch his shoulder but contained herself from doing so. They followed the hallway to the kitchen where some other people from the Order was sitting down already and went through the agenda.
After the meeting Remus and Molly were busy waving their wands stirring spoons around in the pots as the smell of mulled wine and onion filled the room. Ava got up and helped with chopping some of the vegetables. Tonks had tried to help but had tipped the pot over and Molly had insisted she sit down. It hadn't take long before footsteps could be heard running down the stairs and shortly thereafter the teens appeared in the room. Ava had heard that they were trying to listen in with extendable ears from Molly, who had taken them away. but Ava wasn't so sure there weren't some they had stacked away as occasionally she could hear what sounded like footsteps by the staircase.
Pop
Suddenly Ava felt a body behind her pushing her away and she lost her footing and tripped to the right.
'I'm so sorry Ava. You okay?' said one of the twins ( she never had any idea how to separate them two). The other one had apparated two meters away. Before she had time to reply that she was fine Molly had turned towards them with a pan in her hand that she was waving.
'WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT APPARATTING. YOU COULD HAVE KILLED HER' It took a few repeated times of Ava saying that really, she was fine for Molly to stop shouting and went back to preparing the food while shooting some angry looks at them.
The rest of the Weasley's were sat down at the table as well as Kingsley, Tonks, Mundungus and the bushy haired girl called Hermione greeted Ava as she sat down next to them. Soon the food was on the table and everyone dug in. For most part Ava sat quiet staring at her plate of food when she was finished. Hermione was talking to Ginny and on the other side of Ava was Mundungus who was speaking in a hushed tone with the twins. She didn't mind sitting quietly very much, and was going through tomorrow's schedule in her head when Hermione had started talking to her.
'Could you pass me some more of that stew please?'
'Yeah. So, are excited to start Hogwarts soon?' she said, trying to think of something to ask as she passed the bowl with potatoes to Hermione. She swiftly regretted this when Hermione give a stressed look back as though she was having an internal panic attack.
'Oh yes, but there is so much I yet need to go through before we go back. I'm only half through reading the coursework for next year and well with the O.W.L's this year I really can't afford to get behind!' and with that for the next hour Ava was giving Hermione tips and advice for her school year. She reminded Ava a lot about her self; Ava had been on top of the class as she had spent most woken free hours at Hogwarts studying. She didn't have any friends there so to dwell into her studies was the only way for her to keep occupied.
After a few more drinks, their conversation was erupted by Bill who had gotten a guitar in his hands and was playing a song from the Weird Sisters and most people had now gotten up from the table and started to dance. Hermione had been taken away by one of the Weasleys siblings that Ava remembered to be Ron who we stall and lanky. Sirius and Tonks were were dancing doing moves that you would only attempt after several shots of fire whisky. Mundungus wasn't far off, and was moving unsteady around the room with Molly looking at him occasionally with a stern looks. From the opposite of the pantry, a door suddenly swung up and and house-elf unlike any Ava had ever seen before. Snout for nose, bat-like ears, blood shot eyes shaped like tennis balls and covered in a small dirt rag.
'How DARE you foul creatures come and celebrate in the noble house of Black'
'Noble house?' Sirius repeated with a disgusted tone
'Master was always an obnoxious rude little boy not appreciating the house'
'Oh yes, my mum was a real sweetheart' he said sarcastic.
'HOW DARE YOU SPEAK ABOUT MY MISTRESS LIKE THAT' Kreacher screamed sound and seemed to be heading towards the pots.
'SHUT UP and don't you dare throw things at us!' Sirius shouted. Kreacher stopped in his way, and it was clearly visible he wanted no other than to start throwing the pots at them but didn't seem to dare to say no to an order.
With that, Molly had whisked teenagers away, saying it was time to go to bed as they had to clean the house tomorrow. This was met with a lot protest and booing from the twins.
Sirius had sat down now, and had Harry's latest letter to him open on the table desperately pleading for more information.
'We need to tell him something Remus, he is getting frustrated'
'Look Sirius, you know we can't write anything about what is going on here in case our letters are getting checked. When we get him here we can tell him a bit more'
'We-are-not-telling-Harry-about-the-Order' said Molly strictly who had appeared now walking down the stairs to the kitchen, her arms on her waist.
'C'mon Molly, just look what he has been through' said Sirius
'He's just a kid Sirius. Right, Ava?' Ava was attacken back by the mention of her name. In truth to be told, she sided with Sirius here.
'Urgh, well…he has been through a hell lot of more than most his age and he was the one that saw Voldemort come back' said Ava and Molly gave an disapproving look.
'Exactly!' Said Sirius estatic.
'Why don't we discuss it with Dumbledore next time he is here' suggested Arthur to smooth things over.
'Excellent idea' said Remus
'Dumbledore doesn't know shit' Sirius said annoyed and Ava, Remus and Molly all looked at him in disbelief.
'You are just frustrated he is making you stay inside' said Remus calmly and Sirius made a groan but didn't say anymore objections to the matter.
