Chapter Fifteen

"Whoa!" Gary fell off of his bar stool, beer in hand.

"You're such a lightweight, Gary." May said before tipping her bottle back and taking another gulp.

Gary and May were spending another night in another bar, just trying to avoid the others. The court case had taken place three days ago, and relations between the two groups hadn't improved at all. Gary and May were doubtful that they ever would. They currently sat in a Pokemon bar, a place where one can go to watch Pokemon battles, and get a drink if they want. This particular bar wasn't seedy or shady, but it didn't exactly look pure either.

"Sorry May," Gary got back up on his bar stool "I'm not as used to this as you. Which doesn't even make sense. I'm twenty one, and you're nineteen." His voice dropped to a whisper "You're legally not even allowed to drink."

May laughed "When I was off by myself, mourning Ash, I quickly learned what a cute look and some innuendos can get you if you go to the right places. Just try to keep your balance, yeah?"

"All I can promise is that I try." Gary smirked, but he placed his drink down regardless. He never was much of a drinker. It interfered with his ability to think, something a professor does not appreciate.

They sat there for a bit longer in silence, watching some Pokemon battles on the television set above the bar, when they heard some too familiar voices.

"How about here guys?"

"Whatever. I don't really care as long as they've got alcohol."

"Brock, don't say that in front of Max! We don't need an underage kid to start drinking because of the influence of one of the people who are supposed to look out for him! Don't forget that Dawn can't drink yet either."

"Ew, I wouldn't drink even if I were allowed to. I don't want to lose control of my body, ever."

"Sorry..."

May and Gary took a quick look at each other before racing off their stools at the counter to a booth in the back of the bar where they could keep their backs to the room.

"In all the bars in Saffron, why did they choose this bar!" May exclaimed in a hushed tone "It's not exactly a shining example of a clean establishment."

"May, anyone looking in wouldn't know that unless they've been a bar regular and have seen lots of them that could give them an impression of which places are good and not. Besides, this place isn't that bad, and they have Pokemon battles on lots of screens in here. Max being with them probably had an impact on their decision to come here; for the battling while Brock and Misty could get a drink."

May grunted in annoyance none the less "Still, this is a pain in the neck."

Gary nodded in agreement.

Dawn and Max went over to a booth near the front of the bar, while Brock and Misty went to the counter to get themselves a drink. They then went and joined Dawn and Max and they fell into a comfortable silence as they drank while the younger two watched Pokemon battles.

May turned to Gary "What should we do?"

"Wait." Gary told the brunette "Unless you're ready to just walk past them, which I'm certainly not, there's nothing we can do but wait for them to leave."

May gave him a funny look "When did you become Mr. Patient and cool headed? A few weeks ago, and you would've done just that."

"Circumstances change." Gary rubbed his forehead "Sometimes, people have to grow up fast, whether they want to or not."

"I suppose." May peeked her head above the booth to look at her old friends. They hadn't moved.

"I guess we should just wait until they leave." Gary pulled May back down "It's not like we're in a rush anyway."

"Yeah, you're right." May eyed the match on the TV near them.

They sat there for about forty minutes, when suddenly a giant explosion resounded in the distance. Before anyone could even react, a series of smaller explosions went off, getting louder and louder. One went off right next to the bar, starting a small fire and shaking it so hard that some of the roof collapsed in. A smaller beam fell onto May, pinning her down by her legs and causing her to scream out in pain before passing out. The blasts continued throughout the town, seemingly everywhere.

Since they were in the back of the bar, no one one noticed Gary and May as they rushed out of the bar, leaving the two alone. Except for Max, who heard his sister scream, and froze as his friends ran out.

"May!" Gary frantically tried to move the beam. However, despite its small size, it was very dense and too heavy for him to move. The fire started to creep in on the two causing Gary to start to panic. Max ran up and tried to help him, but there was nothing they could do.

"Move!" Before he could do anything else, the beam lifted itself off of May and was thrown across the room.

Gary turned around and saw a figure in the doorway "Red?! How are you here?"

Red's jacket was torn at the bottom and he was bleeding from his head "Long story, we need to leave."

"I never thought that this world would ever see my might again! This time, I will kill every aura guardian I see, I will burn the land they occupy and salt the ground, I swear I will wipe them from existence!"

Red was dumbfounded for only a moment 'Crap, Mewtwo, get over here, NOW!'

Mewtwo flashed into the room, looked around and registered what happened in a second.

Red looked at him 'Free me, then grab Ash and Domino and get us out of here, fast!'

Mewtwo acted immediately, shooting a ball of energy at Red's restraints, then teleporting over to Ash and Domino and grabbed them, then teleported the four of them out of Rocket HQ to a clearing on the other side of Saffron. Ash and Domino collapsed as soon as they landed.

Red wasted no time "Mewtwo, teleport the both of them to Mt. Silver, quickly, Domino needs medical attention as fast as possible. Once you get them in the proper care, come back to me."

'What will you be doing' Mewtwo asked silently.

"May and Gary need to come with us." Red turned to the city "This won't end well, and Ash's friends earned his trust and stayed with him when the rest of them abandoned him. For that, I'll go back for them."

Mewtwo nodded and disappeared with Ash and Domino in a flash.

Red stretched his legs out before taking off into the town. As he sprinted through the city for several minutes, he earned many odd looks from bystanders.

'Come on, where are they?' Red stretched out with his psychic powers, and felt Gary. He immediately changed courses and started in that direction. He neared the building where he felt Gary, which turned out to be a bar, and when he was across the street, he heard a huge explosion. Fearing the worse, he stopped to see what would happen. His suspicions deemed correct as he saw one of Abigar's lieutenants on a building throwing red aura balls randomly and using his psychic powers to damage buildings and throw people, citizens being slaughtered all around him. One came close to him, the explosion causing shrapnel to shoot out at him, cutting his forehead and ripping up his jacket at the bottom. He watched as an aura ball flew to the bar and land near it, causing a portion of the roof to collapse. People came flooding out; he saw Ash's old friends among them, but not Gary or May. Rushing in, he saw the two along with Max in the back trying to lift a beam off of an unconscious May. Debating whether or not he should use his powers and risk being detected, or help physically. Deciding that May needed help immediately, Red stopped blocking his powers and lifted the beam off of her.

"Red?! How are you here?"

Red used his psychic powers to drop debris on the fire, putting it out. Gary picked up May, with Max close behind, a terrified expression on his face. Probably in part to due the circumstances and partly to the fact that he still believed that Red was a criminal.

Red went out the door first, followed by Gary with May, then Max.

They only made it a block down the street before an aura ball came whizzing towards them, forcing Red to intercept it with one of his own.

"Well, we've got ourselves another red aura user." The voice boomed "What timing! Your master Abigar is on this plane of existence once again! Help us destroy this city." Abigar's lieutenant jumped down from his perch, using his powers to soften the fall as he landed.

Red played it coolly "Of course, how can I help?" Gary took May and Max off to an alley to hide as the two talked.

The lieutenant laughed "Just go around and kill as many peasants as you can. We don't plan on leaving any witnesses!"

Red nodded "Yes sir. If I may ask, what is your name?"

"Berne." He nodded "The pleasure is mine, now go!"

Red nodded back and Berne turned to get back to his spot. Red charged an aura ball and shot it at them man. It raced toward him, and exploded on him.

Red looked satisfied, looking to where Gary, May, and May were.

Out of nowhere, a fist connected with his jaw, sending him flying back. Red slammed into the wall of a building behind him before jumping back up, a wild look in his eyes as he looked for where the attack cam from.

"Haha, do you really think I would be so easy to take out?" Berne was across the street, leaning on a lamp post.

"How?" Red gaped "I saw the aura connect with you, it hit you!" 'Mewtwo, I need you now!'

It would take a few minutes for Mewtwo to get here, so Red had to buy time. Teleportation might be instantaneous at short distances, but the further you go, it still takes time for the matter to fly to it's destination.

"Come on kid, I'm almost a millennium old." He cracked his knuckles "I know some tricks."

Like lightning, he shot out to Red, reaching for a kick. Red barely managed to dodge, basically throwing himself out of the way.

'Holy crap!' Red's mind was on overdrive, trying to figure out how Berne was so fast.

A chunk of a wall fell, distracting Red's gaze for a fraction of a second, but it was all Berne needed. He thrust at Red with an aura infused fist, catching him in the underside of his ribs.

Red let out a huge gasp as he tried to suck in air; his hands went to his ribs immediately, feeling a couple broken. Berne didn't let up, sending him flying with a roundhouse kick into a brick wall behind him. Red smashed into the wall, crumbling it. Red managed to send the bricks flying instinctively to prevent himself from being crushed.

"Huh." Berne rubbed his chin "So you had you're psychic powers unlocked. Interesting, I thought we were the only ones. I guess that this must have been recently."

"What? How would you know what's happened?" Red tried to pick himself up, but his leg thought differently "You've been trapped in the Reverse World for centuries."

Berne hooted with laughter "That's funny! There are ways to look into this world from the Reverse World. It's only a matter of finding them."

He looked at Red "But that's enough talking now, traitor."

Mewtwo flashed between the two, throwing a blast of energy at Berne. The amount of power would've torn a normal man in half, but Berne managed to leap out of the way. His momentum sent him tumbling down, and he hit his head, dazing him.

'Quickly!' Mewtwo gestured Gary and Max to him.

They sprinted to him and with a flash, the five disappeared.

AN- Hopefully, I can get out a chapter every week or so. We'll see.
