Before anything else could be said the post came through the door, Ash got up to go and get it
"I thought that had come already" said Bunty
"Well, I may have told a little fib" replied Ash, finding the letter she was looking for
"What, would you have said when they wanted to see it" asked Bunty
"I, never thought of that" replied Ash
"Well, what time is the next bus, from here" asked Bunty
Ash, looked at the kitchen clock, in about fifteen minutes" replied Ash
"Well, that just gives us time to tidy up before we get going" replied Bunty
"Okay, would you mind washing up, only I'm not supposed to get this wet" asked Ash
"No, of course not" replied Bunty, getting on with washing up the cups and Ash's breakfast things
Meanwhile, Ash was wiping down the sides and then started drying up, when they had finished
"Right, have you got everything you need" asked Bunty
"I think so" replied Ash, going into the hallway and putting her coat on
"So, where are we going first" asked Bunty following Ash out the door and closing it behind her
"I was thinking of going to the library first, if that's alright with you" replied Ash
"Sounds, good to me" replied Bunty
They waited at the bus stop in silence
Bunty waited until they were seated to break the silence
"So, have you drawn, anything lately" asked Bunty
Ash, shook her head
"Read, any good books" tried Bunty again
Ash, shook her head again, she wasn't really in the mood for small talk, she just wanted to get today over and done with, she was pinning all her hopes on the library
"Have you heard any new music" asked Bunty, ready to give up if Ash didn't respond this time
"No, not really, Mum hasn't really let me out of her sight, so I haven't had a chance to go shopping or see my friends" replied Ash
"Well, we can change that can't we" replied Bunty, feeling rather sorry for Ash
"No, you are doing too much already" replied Ash, not wanting to seem ungrateful, but also worried about what her parents would say if they knew they were doing all of this
Bunty followed Ash to the back of the library and started by finding a table which was easy as it was pretty empty, at that time of the morning, Ash pulled out her notebook and pen and then set about getting the right films for the papers from the librarian
While she was waiting she, started looking up some of the books, while Bunty just waited at the table, it was only a few minutes before the librarian came back with the right films, Bunty took them from her and put them in the machine, she was searching through them when Ash came back
"Is, that them have you found anything" asked Ash
"No, not yet" said Bunty
Ash went to say something
"Ohh, actually, yes here it is" said Bunty
"Can I have a look please" asked Ash
Bunty moved out of the way
Ash looked at the articles that Bunty had found, there were a couple that she hadn't seen before and a few more pictures of after the accident, but they all said the same sort of thing, none of this helped her remember anything, she felt like it had been a complete waste of time.
Bunty could see the disappointment on her face and could see now why Jill and Gordon had been trying to stop her knowing she was pinning all this on trying to get her memory back
"Ash, you knew this might never have helped" said Bunty
"Yes, but I hoped it was going to bring it all back, so mum would stop blaming herself" replied Ash
Bunty, didn't really know what to say, to make the situation better
"Well, why don't we do a little shopping" said Bunty
Ash nodded, she didn't really feel like going home, she packed up her things and then followed Bunty out
They spent the next couple of hours walking around the shops, Bunty could tell Ash was getting tired
"Right, I could do with a break how about we have a cup of tea and then make our way back home" said Bunty
"Okay" replied Ash, still upset about what had happened earlier
They went into the Bunty's favourite coffee shop, they were sat at the table, Bunty ordered for both of them while Ash went to the toilets. She had been in there a while and Bunty was starting to get worried, when their drinks arrived, Bunty was about to go and check on Ash when she came back through
"Is everything alright" asked Bunty
"Yes, sorry" replied Ash
"Well, I've ordered for you" replied Bunty
"Thanks, Nan" replied Ash, she was really struggling with the pain
"Well, what time is the next bus" asked Bunty
Ash looked at her watch
"About forty-five minutes, from across the road" replied Ash
"Well, that gives us plenty of time for these then" replied Bunty as the waitress put their cakes down in front of them
"I can't" said Ash, knowing she didn't have enough money for all of this
"My treat" replied Bunty
"Besides, you don't want to miss out on the best cake in town" added Bunty
"So, what have you got planned for this afternoon" asked Bunty
"I think, I might just stay at home and listen to this music" replied Ash
Looking at Bunty
"Unless, you would like the company" added Ash, knowing Bunty was finding Harold being in the hospital difficult
"Well, let's see what happens" replied Bunty, not really wanting to think about it
"So, is there anywhere else you would like to go while we are here" asked Bunty, changing the subject
"No, I don't think so, what about you" asked Ash
"No, I've got everything I need" replied Bunty
They sat there making small talk until it was time to go and get the bus
They got on the bus and were told by the driver there was going to be a slight diversion, they took their seats
The diversion took them past the royal and then down the road where the building site was
Ash was starting to remember, she had gone pale, as the bus pulled halfway down the road, she started to have a panic attack
"Ash, deep breaths" said Bunty
"Stop the bus" added Bunty
The bus pulled over, Ash and Bunty got off the bus, Bunty told the driver he could go on they would be fine now
The site entrance was a little way down the road, Ash saw the curtains of the lady Jill had gone to see move when she looked up, she tried to control her breathing, she leant against the wall
The door opened to the house
"Hello, is everything alright, can I help" asked the lady
"We'll be fine thank you" replied Bunty
"You're the doctors daughter, the one that" started the lady
"I think she could do with a glass of water, I'll come with you" said Bunty
Crossing the road and following her indoors
Ash walked up to the entrance and looked through the gates, it all seemed empty, the gates were locked, she tried to lean so she could see the building, but she couldn't stretch that far, the gates opened slightly under her weight, and she was able to squeeze through, she walked to where the building once stood without even thinking about it, she knelt in front of where the doorway was as it all started to flood back
Bunty came out of the house and looked across to where Ash once was
"Ash" shouted Bunty
Ash, was faraway with her own thoughts she didn't answer
Bunty went to the gates and tried to open them without any luck she looked as far as she could see and still couldn't see Ash
"Ash" shouted Bunty again
Still no answer
"Do, you want me to phone anyone" asked the lady
"Yes, I think I had better phone my daughter" replied Bunty
Bunty followed her in and used the phone to phone the royal
"Hello, the royal" said Lizzie
"Hello, can I speak to Jill please" asked Bunty
"She's very busy can I help" asked Lizzie
"It's very important I speak to Jill or Gordon now, tell them it's Bunty" replied Bunty
"Like I said they are very busy, can I take a message Bunty" replied Lizzie, just as Jill made her way to the office
"Lizzie" said Jill
"It's Bunty, she said it's important and I've told her you are busy" said Lizzie, just as Jill took the phone from her
"Mum" said Jill panicked
"Jill, I've lost Ash" replied Bunty
"What, How" asked Jill
"Well, we went to town and got on the bus to go home but were diverted, Ash had a panic attack and we got off, I went to get a glass of water and then she was gone" replied Bunty
"Okay, where are you" asked Jill
"Well, I'm at" started Bunty looking to lady, she had forgotten to even ask her name
"Mrs Duncan" replied Mrs Duncan
"I'm at Mrs Duncan's" replied Bunty
"My patient" asked Jill, knowing exactly where they were now
"Yes" replied Bunty
"Okay, I'll be right there" replied Jill, putting the phone down
