Chapter 25

"Oh god, we're never going to make it," Ellen cried. It was like the faiths were against them. First Bill's truck wouldn't start so they ended up using her car.

Then they hit a traffic jam thanks to a car accident and then when they were an hour out from Lawrence they had a blowout and had to change the tire. Now they were gunning it to make up time since their two hour cushion was gone and the portal would be opening in ten minutes.

"We're less than ten miles out, we'll make it." He reassured her as he pressed his foot down on the gas pedal.

Jo swallowed as they stood in the same location where the portal that brought them had opened. She looked at her watch and saw they had two minutes before the portal to go back would open.

She turned and saw John kissing Ami on her forehead before passing her to Sam. She saw Dean standing behind his father and sighed. When they got back from The Roadhouse he had asked to speak to her privately.

She was surprised when he had asked if she were happy and told her that she didn't have to go back. That she could stay with him, his father and Sam.

"Of course I'm happy," she told him.

Dean nodded his head, "I needed to make sure. I needed you to know you're wanted here, with us."

Jo frowned at the look in Dean's eyes as she reached out and took his hand in hers, "Dean…talk to me. What's going on?"

"I ended things with Lisa." He admitted before adding. "I still see Ben but I…I had to finally admit to myself that I was with Lisa still more out of habit than anything else. I love her but I don't think I've been in love with her for a very long time. I was staying with her for Ben."

"I'm so sorry Dean. I never met Lisa but from her letter I could tell she cared a great deal for you." She told him.

"Don't get me wrong, it was an amicable breakup and we agreed we're better at being friends than a couple." He reassured her.

Jo shook her head sadly, "how's Ben taking it?"

Dean gave Jo a small smile, "he's a twelve year old boy…he doesn't talk about his feelings but I've made a point to spend extra time with him."

"Dean…" Jo murmured, not sure how to ask the question.

"Don't go there Sweetheart," he told her. "I had my chance. I could have laid it all out for you…told you the truth but I didn't."

Jo sighed as she reached up and cupped Dean's cheek. "I do love you. A part of me will always love you." She confessed.

"I was an idiot," he murmured as he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tightly.

Jo pulled back and gave him a small smile. "No you weren't. You were being honorable. Not only to me but to Lisa too. You're a good man Dean and you deserve to be happy."

The hunter returned her smile, "I hope he realizes how lucky he is." He told her as he leaned down and gave her a chaste kiss. She sighed when he mates his forehead to hers and gazed into her eyes.

She had meant what she said. She loved him…not the same way as she loved her Dean because they were both different in their own ways but she couldn't help loving both men.

The couple jumped apart when they heard Sam standing in the doorway clearing his throat. "Jo, Jody said that Ami won't take the bottle she's trying to give her and wanted to know if you wanted to try and nurse her instead."

Jo gave Sam an embarrassed smile as she nodded her head and quickly left the room. She winced when she heard Sam say to his brother, "dude, you okay?"

She had hurried away then, not being able to bear hearing Dean's answer.

Her and Dean had spent the rest of her time there giving each other awkward smiles. She took a deep breath to try and calm her nerves as Sam kissed Ami one more time on the forehead before handing her to Dean.

She looked at her watch and swallowed. Ninety seconds…ninety seconds and the portal would open. She turned and looked up at the younger Winchester.

"Sammy," she said as she reached up to hug him.

"Stay safe Jo," Sam said as he kissed the top of her head.

"You too," she told him before leaning up to kiss him on the cheek.

She turned and took a deep breath as she made her way over to John. She gave him a weak smile as he pulled her close. "You take care of my grandbaby," he murmured.

Jo nodded her head, "I will." She cried as she clung to the Winchester patriarch. "I love you," she told the man who became a second father to her.

John closed his eyes as he squeezed her even tighter and whispered softly, "I love you too Kiddo."

She pulled back as she sniffled while wiping her eyes. She looked over at Dean and swallowed the lump in her throat.

"Jo, 45 seconds." Jody said to the other woman.

"Right," she said as she stepped over to Dean and accepted Ami as Dean handed the baby to her. She gazed into his eyes and smiled. "Dean, I…"

Jo stopped when suddenly they heard a car screeching to a halt behind them. Her jaw dropped when Ellen, Bill and oh god Ash jumped out of the car and Ash tossing a duffel at Ellen and Bill before slinging the third over his shoulder.

She barely had a chance to say anything when she heard the crackling and saw the portal rip open. She shot a look at Jody and Cas as the three newcomers ran towards them. "Go, I'll be right behind you."

"We'll be right behind you," Ellen said as she stopped in front of them.

"Joanna they cannot join us," argued Castiel.

"The hell we can't," huffed Bill.

"Cas, I know what you're thinking but why not. They can help defeat Chuck, especially Ash." Jo said.

"We don't have time discuss this," Jody argued. "If they made the decision and if they can help defeat Chuck then I say we all haul ass and go through this portal."

Jo smiled at Jody before turning towards the other three, "are you sure?" She asked quickly.

Ellen smiled at the other woman, "positive. No matter what we're family and family comes first."

"Good enough for me," Jody said as she grabbed Castiel's arm and forced him towards the rip and physically pushing him through before he could fight Jo on the matter further.

"Go," Jo cried towards Ellen, Bill and Ash. Watching as the three run through before turning to Dean. "Dean…"

He gave her a small smile, "I'll be alright.. You take care of this little peanut." He said as he kissed the top of the sleeping child's head.

"I will," she promised

"Go Sweetheart, they're waiting for you." He urged as he reached up and cupped her cheek, gently wiping away her tears with his thumb.

Jo nodded her head and took a half a step towards the rip before turning around and leaning up and kissed Dean. "Thank you for what you did for me. I'll always love you," she murmured before turning and running towards the flickering rip…towards her family.

Jo stumbled into a broad chest and realized she had run right into Sam as she came through the rip. She shot a look over her shoulder and swallowed when she saw the rip close behind her.

Sam study Jo, helping her get her footing. She looked up into the younger Winchester's face and nodded her head. "I'm okay," she reassured him.

Slowly she turned and looked around the room. Letting her eyes drift from one face to another until they fell upon Dean's green eyes. She gasped when she saw the identical slices across each cheek.

"Anything you want to tell me Sweetheart?" He asked with his arms folded across his chest.

A/N - Okay, not sure if I surprised people that after Jo left that Dean broke up with Lisa because he realized too late that he had actually fallen in love with our Jo.

It was a fine line for me to walk here and I hope people don't hate that Jo told him that she loved him because he may me different in some ways from our Dean but in the long run they are the same man and some of the things that Jo fell in love with our Dean would be the same things that would draw her to the other dimension Dean too.

It's not the best closure for Jo and the other dimension Dean but I kinda wanted to put it out there that Dean and Jo would always find each other...unfortunately that dimension Jo died when she was three and that Dean never knew what was missing from his life until Gabriel brought our Jo there and it made him re-examine his relationship with Lisa and realizing he wasn't in love with Lisa and that he was just staying with her out of habit which wasn't healthy for either of them.
