Thank you Leann Nickerson, Angels-heart1 and Blondie 20000 for your feedback. Yup Blondie the cuts on Dean's cheeks are from Lilith like in the show. So Dean goes through his 'we have no way to beat Chuck" meltdown here like he did in the show but Jo and Sam offer some tough love.
Anyway, I hope people enjoy!
Thanks
Val
Chapter 26
Sammy gulped at his brother and knew things could get ugly fast…that Dean was still reeling from Lilith and losing the gun and when the rip opened and Jody came through with Cas they both had that horrible sinking feeling that something went wrong but then three more figures came through…two they never thought they would ever see again.
They barely had time to comprehend what they were seeing when they heard Gabriel cry out he couldn't keep the rip open much longer and they could see it start flickering out of existence. Those few heartbeats felt like a lifetime when just as the portal began to close completely Jo came running through with Amelia cradled close to her chest.
Yeah he could see his brother was barely keeping it together. Sam gave Jo a quick kiss on the cheek before gently extracting Ami from her arms and turning towards the others. "Ummm why don't we get you all settled…Donna….Jody can you help me.
"Right," Jody said, knowing the younger brother wanted to give Dean and Jo some privacy.
She shook her head when she saw Ellen look like she was getting ready to fight them but the older woman clamped her mouth shut when her husband put his hand on her shoulder and said, "thank you, that sounds good…it's been a long two days."
Dean watched as Sam ushered the others out as Jo watched him. He shot Cas and Gabriel a look and both angels quickly left the room. Once they were alone Jo crossed the room and reached up to tentatively touch Dean's cheek.
She winced when he jerked back slightly. "What hell happened Jo? You went there to let the others know you and Amelia are were fine."
Jo sighed as she sat down in one of the leather chairs and told Dean about finding out that her parents were still alive in the other dimension and convincing the others to go so that she could see them.
Dean snorted when she told him that her mother saw through her ruse, "seriously you thought you were going to pull a fast one on Ellen."
Jo smiled as she finished telling him about their visit and that as the portal began to open is when her parents and Ash showed up saying that they wanted to come with us.
"Dean…I'm sorry I…I couldn't turn them back. I know it's selfish but they're my parents." She said as she ducked her head.
He closed his eyes as he took several deep breaths. "They aren't the same people who raised you Jo."
"I know but there is a connection…I can't put it into words but I feel it. The same way I feel it with the others." She told him.
He swallowed as he thought about what she was saying. If he saw the other dimension John Winchester would he feel the same way. Hell yeah, he knew he would.
"Look Jo I get it I do but I don't know if them being here is wise…not now." He told her.
"Dean, what happened?" She asked.
Dean sank down in the chair across from Jo and told her about the hunt. That it was basically a trap and about Lilith…about how Lilith tortured him…Lingchi—death by a thousand cuts.…about losing the one weapon that might take Chuck down. His voice broke when he finally told her that Sam's dreams.
Jo listen horrified at what he was telling her. It was when he hung his head and asked her what had they done bringing Ami into this nightmare that she got up and knelt in front of him.
"Dean look at me," Jo urged. "We made a beautiful baby together and I couldn't imagine my child having a better father than you. You know what I think… I think Chuck's running scared and it's why he needs to work with a demons."
"We have nothing to fight him with," Dean argued dejectedly.
Jo frowned as she stood up and looked down at Dean, surprised at his defeated attitude, "well maybe you've giving up but I'm not and I'm sure Sam hasn't either. We have a family who are willing die to help us stop Chuck and I know I'm not about to give up the fight even if you are."
Dean watched in shock as Jo spun around and walked out of the room. He got up and went over to pour himself a whiskey but stopped when he saw a photo of him and Ami in a frame that Jo had put up a couple of weeks ago.
He had sworn he wouldn't drink like his father…that Ami would never smell whiskey on his breath and he quickly put the decanter down and picked up the photo. He smiled as he looked at his daughter…damn his heart swelled every time he thought of the infant.
He was so busy looking at the photo he didn't even hear his brother come back into the room. "Jody and Donna decided not to stay and took off once we got Ellen, Bill and Ash settled…Jesus you think after we brought back the other Bobby and Charlie I would be used to this but seeing Ellen and Ash…Dean?"
Dean looked over his shoulder at his brother, "I disappointed her."
Sam sighed, "what happened." He winced when his brother snorted. "Dean?"
Dean hung his head as he turned around, "I told her the truth. That we've been fools, playing at being happy like our lives were normal. How did we ever think we would beat him…beat Chuck…beat God. He's God Sammy."
Sam study his brother for several seconds before asking, "and what did Jo say?"
Dean snorted, "that we have a family that will go to battle with us…that she's not about to give up the fight, even…even if I…" he could even bring himself to finish the sentence.
"Even if you have," Sam said evenly.
Dean nodded his head as he looked down at his hands. "Sam, she doesn't understand what we're up against."
"Really," Sam said as he frowned at this brother. "Seems to me she understands completely."
"Sam…"
"No! Don't Sam me Dean!" The younger Winchester said firmly. "Jo knows better than anyone what we're up against and she knows what's at stake here so don't try and pull that card on me."
Sam got up and went and stood in front of Dean, placing his hands on his shoulders. "Look, you need time to digest…cope…whatever you want to call it fine but I'm not about to bend over and take it up the ass because it gives Chuck his fucking jollies and I know that my brother isn't about to bow down to him either. So figure it out Dean, deal with it however you need to deal with this latest twist because we have a job to do."
Dean let his brothers words sink in before he reached up and cupped the back of his neck. "I guess we'll need to start hitting the books…see if we can find something on how to take Chuck down."
Sam smirked at his brother, "you're one board then."
"Well somebody needs to make sure have yours and Jo's back." Dean quipped as he gave Sam a genuine smile. "Now I need to go and see my girls…talk to Jo."
"Go," Sam said as he nodded his head. He watched as Dean headed out of the room and turned to leave when he caught a glimpse of the frame his brother was holding when he came in. He picked it up and looked at his brother sitting in one of the rockers that had gradually found their ways into various rooms in the bunker with Ami in his arms as he was giving her a bottle.
Screw Chuck…all he could imagine for him and his brother was death but that little girl in his brother's arms meant so much more. There is more to their lives than death and Ami was living proof that they can have a better life than the crappy storyline Chuck keeps trying to force upon them.
