Chapter 30: Making Plans
(At Takarada's office)
Ruto brought in the Editor … they set up his laptop, so they can review the final edit of the video he was working on
Lory played the video and watched it with Maria sitting by his side
After the nearly 1 minute and a half video ended, … Lory was seen smirking as he nodded in approval
Editor: did it turn out as you expected?
Lory: It's perfect!
Editor: Thank you! … I put in a few extra hours, as I was excited to work on this!
Maria: Since it's perfect, can we release it today?!
Lory: I'm afraid not, I need to meet with everyone involved so we can decide on a release date!
Ruto: Should I start?
Lory: Yes, contact everyone and let me know the best time to meet!
Ruto: understood! … (he turns and leaves to do just that)
Editor: I will be reviewing the rest of the footage and I will start editing the next 2 videos!
Lory: Great! … thank you for your hard work! … I will send you the payment as promised!
Editor: Thank you, and honestly! … I'm honored to be involved in this!
Lory smiled and nodded saying: let's change the world of showbiz together! … we couldn't do it without someone great like you!
Editor: Thank you for trusting me on this … I will head out then! … take care and I will see you when I'm done with my next task!
Lory: Sure! … take care!
Maria: Grandpa! … why do you need approval if you think it's perfect!
Lory: because this isn't my campaign alone, anymore!
Maria: I get that it's good to have many people involved! … but …
Lory: I know it's a long process, but the better we prepare it, the better the result we get! … rushing it out won't help anyone!
Maria nodded and said: I understand … I'm just frustrated that I can't help!
Lory: Don't say that, Maria! … your support and love are helpful enough! … and I know Mogami-kun appreciates how much you care about her!
Maria: Is it a bad idea to see her now?
Lory: She must be busy with work, so I don't know if she has time to drop by … maybe you can email her some supportive messages … I think she would love that!
Excited, Maria says: I will do just that! … (she gets up and runs out while waving goodbye to her beloved grandfather)
Lory met with the others that night and discussed the release date for the campaign … they all settled that it will be released in a week's time … Although Takarada tried to push for an earlier date, he understood the current position and decided to go along with the plan
Ren was contacted and he learned about the release date, although he tried to protest for an earlier date, Lory explained the points discussed in the meeting and Ren settled, … although deep down he really wanted to do something for Kyoko's sake
(Saturday – The Airport)
As promised, Yashiro drove Kanae to the airport that Saturday afternoon
Kanae thanked Yashiro as she took her bag from him and walked towards the airport entrance with a gloomy Kyoko following behind
Kanae: Mo! … stop looking so blue! … I'm not leaving forever! … I was told I can come back in 2-3 months!
A Depressed Kyoko said: I know … you told me …
Kanae: why so gloomy then?! … you have my number, you can contact me whenever you want! … I can't promise I will pick up every time, but I will try!
Kyoko nodded, then said: but the time difference is huge! … I don't want to bother you, more than necessary!
Kanae Raised an eyebrow, saying: huh?! … is it really a necessity to annoy me now?!
Still depressed, Kyoko answered: no … I'm sorry … I just meant …
Kanae: Mo … stop being so depressed … I get it! … I will miss you too! I promise!
Kyoko nodded, without lifting her head up
Kanae understood why Kyoko was so upset about her leaving … they won't see each other for a long time, and that actually made her sad as well, but work is work, and she was determined to make it, after losing the role of Chidori
Kyoko walked behind Kanae who got her boarding pass and walked towards the passport security, she stopped there and said with teary eyes: I guess this is where we part ways
Kanae looked back to see her friend's eyes filled with tears on the verge of falling
Kyoko bit her lip trying not to cry
Kanae sighed and said: don't cry! … you know I don't like seeing you suffer!
Kyoko wiped her eyes, but tears kept reappearing, threatening to fall
Kanae looked at Kyoko, and thought about all the hardships she has been going through those past few days … she hated the fact she needed to leave now, when her best friend needed her, at least for emotional support
She had called Kyoko and texted her more often since being hospitalized, but more so through the past week, she wanted to be a supportive friend through this difficult time, knowing that Kyoko will act strong even if she's suffering inside
Kyoko had surprised her of how strong she was, not letting this matter get to her, but still, she wanted to be there for her friend and hated the fact she needed to leave now
Kanae: look! … I will contact you too! … so, keep in touch! … I know you're going through some crappy times with those heartless people … but you're strong and I know you will get through it!
Kyoko looked at her friend and nodded, not saying anything
Kanae: Mo … (she walked to Kyoko and gave her a tight hug … whispering some supportive words to her to cheer her up)
Kyoko was very happy that Kanae initiated the hug and hugged her friend back, thanking her and promising to keep in touch as much as possible
After a relatively long hug, Kanae broke it off saying: I should get going now, I need to get through security, so I can catch my plane
Kyoko bid her best friend goodbye and walked out to meet Yashiro near his car
Yashiro sighed and said: I know this is hard, but she will be back, Kyoko-chan!
Kyoko: I know … it's just sad, that … I won't see her for a long time!
Yashiro: you can send each other pictures … maybe figure out how to do video calls
Kyoko: yeah, we will
Yashiro: let's go Kyoko-chan! … we have work to get to
Kyoko entered the car in silence … she took out her make-up kit to fix her make-up before reaching the studio
Yashiro smiled and said: everything will be alright!
Kyoko: hopefully! … I really hope no one else comes out with a stupid statement like that … guy
Yashiro: I understand why you're upset
Kyoko: I do feel bad for blowing up in his face … because, I get that he cared enough to do something, but …
Yashiro: he did the wrong thing by coming out and saying what he did! … I wish he went about it differently!
Kyoko: yeah …
Yashiro: in any case, don't over-think it … hopefully, no one caught on
Skeptical, Kyoko asked: I'm not worried about people catching on, I'm just worried about what the lady would do next
Yashiro: we will know tomorrow if she continues with her pattern
Kyoko: yeah … although, I personally think that Sunday isn't a day for breaking news! … she might break the pattern to get something out on Monday … and … I think Todoh-san is worried about something, but he didn't say what
Yashiro: your lawyer? … hmmm … maybe work?
Kyoko: he said it while we were talking about this subject … do you think this might affect the police investigation, like … my case will be dismissed because I'm a troublemaker or something
Yashiro: you're no trouble maker, Kyoko-chan!
Kyoko: but, I'm attracting a lot of attention … all week long … Kyoko's LME this … Kyoko's LME that!
Yashiro: that's true … maybe it has a negative effect, but I don't know how
Kyoko: he would know because he has connections with the police
Yashiro: that's true! … well, I'm sure if he understands the matter, he will have it under control!
Kyoko nodded and said: yeah, hopefully …
(That Night – TV station)
After a long time of silence, someone finally accepted an interview request from a famous TV channel that has a huge following
Interviewer: Hello Everyone! As you know today, we have a very special guest, giving us an exclusive interview, since the bombshell news
The interviewer looked towards the entrance of the stage and said: Let's welcome, Kusunoki Kana-san
Kana walked in with a full glammed look … she had hair beautifully done in a braided bun, wearing a rich, midnight blue gown with flashes of beadwork that caught the overhead lights
When both of them took a seat after greeting each other on stage … Kana smiled and gave a small wave to the audience
Interviewer: It's great to see you again, Kana-san! … I'm very happy that you're doing your first interview, since the big news, with us!
Kana: Thank you for having me!
Interviewer: Before we go into the main topic, let's talk about your current projects, can you tell us about the film you're shooting currently
Kana told them all she could, as did have an agreement signed, besides, who wants to spoil a film before its even done filming … she talked about her life on set, and having to go to a different town for a while
The interviewer asked her questions about her co-workers and expressed support for her and her recent film that came out 2 months ago, Kana thanked her gracefully and talked about how happy she was that people have enjoyed the movie and sent her supportive message, thanking her fans in the process
Interviewer: Now, let's talk about the topic everyone is waiting for … we can't keep our audience waiting much longer … can you confirm, are you and Tsuraga-san going out?!
Kana smiled and shook her head, then said: I'm sorry to disappoint anyone, but no … we aren't a couple!
The audience was shocked by the news, with some shouting in response to her answer
The interviewer was equally shocked, so she asked: you aren't?
Kana confirmed: We never dated, I understand the confusion, but the whole situation was a mess, I'm sorry for my long silence, but I had my reasons
The interviewer in disbelief asked: what about that kiss?!
Kana: well, this is embarrassing to say, but … I was drunk
Interviewer dumbfounded, repeated: drunk?!
Kana nodded and explained: to be honest, I was there because I was craving a drink and some company, … I happen to pass by Tsuraga-kun and his friend, Kijima … I asked if I could join them, and they kindly agreed
I had a few drinks and through our conversation, we talked about white day gifts
Interviewer: white day gifts?
Kana: yes, Tsuraga-san has been giving people gifts in return for the chocolates they sent on valentine's day, and … he does usually give back to his friends and co-workers … it seems like this year he missed sending mine out … he offered to pay for our drinks but I rejected his offer, as I was his senior, but in return I stole a kiss, considering it my white-day gift
Interviewer: oh?! … so that's what really happened?
Kana: Yes … again, I had way too much to drink and I wasn't thinking straight … he was very kind regardless and he was a gentleman walking me to the car, making sure I get back safely
Interviewer: I see … what a gentleman indeed!
Kana: The while silence part was the agency's decision … don't spark the matter too much and the news will die eventually, but since it didn't, I decided to come out clean about this, to save myself and Tsuraga-san the trouble … I apologize
Interviewer: so, you assumed people will stop talking about it eventually, but people kept talking about and asking you, and Tsuraga-san about it
Kana: yes … this whole interview was organized after talking to him and his side, … this is a mutual decision
Interviewer: that's interesting … it's great you two are on the same page, there is no bad blood between you two!
Kana: I'm glad I didn't ruin our friendship … I did meet him afterward and apologized … and we got to work together on something special … everyone will learn about it soon, so stay tuned!
Interviewer clapped and said: I'm so excited!
Kana: let me warn everyone there! … don't drink too much and don't do what I did! … I'm honestly embarrassed by what happened
Interviewer: No need, you're such a great person for coming forward and clearing things up, you owned up to a mistake and are giving advice to fellow showbiz actresses!
Kana: Thank you so much, … again, I'm really sorry for the confusion, and that will never happen again … I promise I'm not interested in stealing the most famous Bachelor out there!
The interviewer: I'm curious though, … what do you think of Tsuraga-san? … a friend, a friendly co-worker?
Kana: A friend mostly … he's fun to hang around because he's nice and polite, … perhaps a younger brother, but … no that would be weird
Everyone laughed hearing Kana's last sentence … because it would be weird if Kana thought of Ren as a brother yet kissed him
The interview continued about other subjects and ended soon after
Kana was able to clear Tsuraga-san out of their fake relationship and people accepted her seemingly honest explanation of what happened that night
She was able to keep her own relationship under wraps because the interview was too focused on Ren and not her love relationship
(Sunday)
(Saena's Apartment)
Saena came back after going out for a little, she said: I'm home
Kyoko got up and said: Good morning … your back!
Saena: sorry, I had a few errands to do early in the morning … I also bought you this
Kyoko approached her mother to see what she got her
Saena handed her a bag with a smartphone inside, then said: the worker there said this phone would allow you to transfer your data from any type of old phone … he sent me an email with a few links that will help you transfer your data safely
Kyoko shyly took the bag: Thank you, … you really didn't have to
Saena: I should've done so a while ago, but things got in the way
Kyoko: can I open it and see it?
Saena: sure, it's all yours
Kyoko took of the phone box with much excitement, she carefully unpackaged it and said: thank you so much! … I love it!
Saena: I got you a case to protect your phone, if you don't like it, you can go later to exchange it … I wasn't sure if you would like it
Kyoko took it out and saw the purple case with fairies on the back, it had glitter and bright yellow stars … Kyoko looked at her mother with a surprised look on her face
Unsure, Saena asked: too childish?!
Ecstatic, Kyoko jumps to hug her mother saying: No, It's the best I've ever seen! … I love it!
Saena hugged her back hesitantly and thought (is she that happy?)
Kyoko: I love fairies … purple is a nice subtle color, which suits me! … (she put it on the phone) and said: Fits perfectly!
Saena: I'm glad you like it … I will forward the email to you, so you can set up your phone … you can use my laptop if you need it
Kyoko smiled happily and said: Thank you … now I can call Moko-san using the face chat feature!
Saena nodded and said: I think this will be more useful in the long-run
Kyoko nodded happily … staring at her cover lovingly … she thought her mother nailed it on the phone case alone, and was grateful she paid attention to what she liked regardless of how childish it may be to other
She checked the email and followed the instruction carefully, making sure to do everything in the right order, an hour later, her new phone was all set up and running … everything was transferred properly … especially her treasured " Ren sleeping with Sheep pillow" picture she captured secretly a while ago … she wanted to set it up as a background, but she knew better not to … she set up a fairy background to go along with her phone case … she then proceeded to test the camera function, taking so many cute pictures of her adorable kitten
Saena was glad Kyoko had cheered up, as she did look a little upset the day before due to her friend traveling overseas … she was surprised that Kyoko seemed ok, despite all the news
She noted that Kyoko bounced back much faster … and looked at things differently … and that actually gave her a sense of relief … as she didn't know how to deal with the situation, if Kyoko was deeply affected by the news … she, herself was in deep turmoil and couldn't think that she can help anyone, let alone herself
Luckily for them, Sunday went by in peace … the TV stayed off, as they avoided watching talk-shows … or anything for that matter … they ate lunch, and cooked dinner together … and spent the day basking in the calm silence … Kyoko spent her time playing with Remi as she was too busy all week
They were both aware that Monday might not be as peaceful, but thankfully they were able to recharge and they were both ready for anything … at least Kyoko was
Saena wasn't too sure, but she avoided letting Kyoko get a grasp of how she felt and kept a strong front as much as she could … she wanted to make sure she didn't affect Kyoko with her turmoil
She honestly wanted to hide it from everyone, but she knew that Todoh could read her like a book, remembering what he said … she considered looking that email up, but decided against it, because her pride wouldn't allow it … thinking (even if I take private online sessions, someone can hack my device and steal my information, right?! … that women might do anything at this point)
(Monday)
Japan woke up to more news about the new-comer, Kyoko from LME
Todoh had come in with a disturbed look on his face, after being notified by Katagiri on his way to Mogami's place
He walked in with a calm manner … but he was clearly distressed and angry … making the two women facing him dreed the news he was going to tell them
Saena took the look on his face as a terrible sign … leading the turmoil within her to grow much faster … she almost wanted to beg him not to share the news, thinking that avoiding it would be best
Todoh opened his mouth but said nothing … he looked down and said: you were right, Kyoko-chan
Kyoko was worried but she asked: about?
Todoh: you were right to be upset about that guy's response … because Katagiri-san called me and said "that old lady changed her strategy once Sho came out and revealed Mogami's occupation"
shocked, Kyoko couldn't muster to ask her next question … she looked down thinking (how bad is it, the news today morning?)
Saena: so, she's attacking us directly?
Todoh: yes, … and this time she used a bit of truth like Friday … but put an attractive spin on things to make them sell more … this time turning both her son and Kyoko into the victims
Kyoko looked away trying to push dark thoughts out … her dark grudges were popping out left and right … making her grudges feel overpowered by the darkness once again, this time her hate wasn't towards Sho alone, but also towards Nanami
Saena sighed and asked dreadfully: what is this time?
Todoh took out his phone and read "LME's Kyoko … Abandoned in Kyoto"
He then looked at Saena and said: the smaller text says: Lawyer mother leaves her daughter behind, to make it big in Tokyo! … Mogami Saena's dark truth finally revealed!
He continued: she went into details about Kyoko living with a different family … revealing that she did live with Fuwa Sho and grew up with him … moreover, she made you look like you gave Kyoko up for your career, but at the same time, you deprived her of a good childhood, by keeping her father out of the picture …. Moreover, she accused you of physically abusing Kyoko, to the point that Kyoko is delusional to believe that fairytales are actually real, painting Kyoko as someone who needs serious mental help!
Confused, Kyoko: wait what?!
Saena: is she claiming that Kyoko is somehow mentally ill?!
Todoh: yup, the severe abuse caused deep trauma causing the child to use fairytales as means of coping with her situation … questions if Kyoko is actually able to make a wise decision on her own
Upset, a dark Kyoko asked: to make my decision invalid?!
Saena looked down, knowing that it's true that she left Kyoko in Kyoto and focused on her job
Todoh could easily guess what Saena was thinking and was hoping he can try to talk to sense into her, but … thought he would wait for them to be alone first … he didn't want to expose the fact that Saena mask is falling apart to Kyoko, simply because Saena was trying to stay strong in front of her
Kyoko: what am I supposed to do now?! … will people start questioning everything I do or say, because they might believe I can't make my own decision?! … I was never physically abused, where did that lie come from! … and ….
Todoh: Calm down Kyoko-chan … it's ok! … we will slam her with a defamation lawsuit right away! … and frankly, it seems silence isn't working either, so if you want to speak your mind, don't hold yourself back, ok?! … do what you and your agency thinks is best
Kyoko: what if they use the "Love me" section too?!
Todoh: it's in there too!
Kyoko: what?!
Todoh: as it's explained in the finer details of the article, your agency made that section to help people in your position … the "love me" section is to help people who lack self-worth based on their past trauma's
Kyoko: I'm not only effecting my mom, but also Moko-san and Amamiya-san?!
Saena: It's not your fault!
Todoh: I think your agency should explain the "love me section" in some way that contradicts what is said here
Hopeful, Kyoko asks: is that all?
Todoh looked down and said: it also mentions the fact your mother made such a statement on Tv, denying you existed … it's just mixing facts with fiction and is full of hate and slander towards Saena mainly … it goes beyond just her father not knowing about her
Kyoko: does she think this will go over our heads? … she knows the truth about what happened back then, wasn't she one of the people who planned it to begin with!?
Saena: It's useless to reason with her! … she already made up her mind about everything and is trying to sell her story as a fact
Kyoko: in this case, can't I just say my side of the story!
Saena sighed heavily … not knowing what's the right answer
Todoh: I think that for today, we shall go about our day in silence … Kyoko-chan, talk to your friends and the agency and make up a plan, then we can talk about it … ok? … we will go to work and manage the lawsuit from our side
Kyoko: what about mom … are reporters going to go after her, because that person revealed her name?
Todoh nodded and said: we're not going to work in the office today … we will go somewhere else; besides we have meetings to attend to concerning that Morizumi girl, who keeps playing games like hiding and seek!
Kyoko nodded, then looked at her mother with a hint of guilt
Saena repeated: it's not your fault!
Todoh: She's right! … you have a goal to reach, so go for it, … leave the adult matters to us! … we can handle it!
Kyoko nodded and said: I will go get ready then
Saena: we still haven't eaten breakfast
Kyoko was in no mood to eat, but sat anyway because she wasn't going to let anything ruin her number 1 rule! … if she doesn't abide by it, then she would lose all right to enforce it on Ren … who she cared about and wanted to help him be much healthier
The Trio ate in awkward silence … Todoh wanted to lighten the mood, but didn't think jokes were any good right now … he was glad that people didn't know where they lived … and was trying to think of a way to make sure things stay that way
Saena found it hard to eat … she took every single bite with much torture, trying to calm herself, hoping to convince herself … or maybe even brainwash herself to think that things can get much worse … which they can, if her legal rights were violated and her medical records came out
Kyoko finished her food and got up to get dressed
Saena asked in a low voice: Katagiri-san doesn't want me in the office, correct?
Todoh: He already talked to our colleagues, no worries there, the main issue he's worried about is dissatisfied clients, … none yet, thankfully, but … since we have reporters around our office, he told me to take our business elsewhere, … thankfully we have no face- to face appointments today, so it works well
Saena: for today, only …
Todoh: we will figure this out! … I promise!
Kyoko came out to find the two up from their seats … and cleaning the dishes in silence
Todoh: things will change, I promise!
Kyoko nodded and smiled saying: yes, … they will!
Todoh: don't pay attention to the media today, ok?
Kyoko: No worries, I can handle that … I will talk to the president and see what we will do next
Todoh: I love that confidence you carry yourself with
Kyoko: well, … I know the truth and … I basically have to throw my life and trouble out of the window, when I get on set … so I will do it here, from now … so I can be ready for anything! … I won't let some old lady infamous for lying ruin my progress! … I won't let her reach me or get under my skin, … it's futile, her attempts, all of them!
Todoh: good thinking!
Kyoko: well then, I should head out … (she took out a hat and sunglasses, put them on) and said: I will make sure people don't learn where we live!
Saena smiled with a slight chuckle … and nodded
Todoh wished Kyoko luck as she bid them goodbye and left as soon as she got a text from Yashiro telling her that he had arrived
Saena: she's smart!
Todoh: and strong! … like you
Saena: I don't agree … I'm just faking it, you said my mask had fallen!
Todoh: The Mogami I know is strong! … maybe try to take inspiration from Kyoko?! … she's resilient and you can be too!
Saena: not when your scars are way too open, at this point, my body is already drained!
Todoh was extremely worried about Saena after hearing that … she always tried to be strong, even in front of him, … but now she's just leaving her wound out in the open
Saena: we should head out! … I prefer to work over talking about useless things
Todoh: it's not useless!
Saena: work positively occupies my mind, I can survive if I can still do my job!
Todoh: I admit that you work well and it helps you, but if you let them get under your skin, then even work won't save you! … you need to fight back, and you need to address the issue soon!
Saena: easier said than done!
Todoh: sure … but you know you have people you can depend on, you can be honest with, and can absorb strength from
Saena: like who?!
Todoh looked at her with confusion then asked: don't I and Katagiri-san work?! … I know other means are not possible due to many reasons I won't list!
Saena: you already know everything! … what am I supposed to tell you?!
Todoh sighed and said: work it is! … let's head out!
Saena: As I thought
Todoh: I have an answer, but I don't think you're ready to hear it!
Saena: then let's keep it that way … I like things the way they are and have no intentions to change them
Todoh nodded to the painful truth and opened the door letting her walk out first … then closed the door behind them
A neighbor called out to her: you shouldn't go out!
Saena's heart dropped hearing that, she looked at her with fake calmness and asked: why?
Her neighbor replied: your name is all over the news, people are talking about you in a bad way! … maybe you should skip work today? … won't your office be filled with reporters?
Todoh answered: we have work elsewhere today … no worries we can handle it!
The wise neighbor said: look! … I don't know your story, and I won't believe news without evidence … but … others can be different, they soak anything they hear like sponges … I know this is hard, but sometimes it's ok to put your pride aside and seek help!
Saena stared at her, thinking (can she see through me, too?! … am I that transparent?!)
The neighbor: don't take me for a fool, I see almost daily, to and from work … and I've seen the changes clearly! … they aren't bad, at least not all … but you changed drastically since your daughter came along, not in a bad way mind you! … but … shortly afterword
Saena looked down, thinking (how can she see through me in a mere few seconds interactions
The neighbor: Mogami-san, … when your daughter came, you changed! … you became … friendlier isn't the word … but let's say you became much more in peace, you smiled more, and you gave us a different impression! … we viewed you as smart, but cold, … you didn't smile much … you are always helpful, yes! Your legal knowledge and advice always helped us … I guess what I'm trying to say is that you became warmer and easier to approach, and your daughter is a truly delightful soul to be around!
Saena was surprised by what she was saying, she didn't think of what people thought of her, and she didn't notice the changes she was talking about
Todoh couldn't help but agree with her, he nodded with a calm smile
The neighbor continued: but … the light within you has dimmed … or shall I say has become duller, especially since last week, and that's an issue you should be addressed because if you don't you might stumble into a darker path that is harder to leave … Mogami-san, I've never seen you drunk in all 6 years you've been here, except for once, and that day is when things became darker for you! … I don't think you noticed, but we can see those subtle changes because even a few seconds makes a world's difference between what we know and what we see!
Saena opened her mouth, but she couldn't find the words … she was speechless, to say the least
Todoh thought (this woman is wise, but can she be of any help?)
The neighbor: I suggest you figure this out or seek help! … those doctors exist for a reason, no matter how Taboo going to them may be … I will leave you with that! … good luck out there and be careful
Saena bid her goodbye respectfully and walked away with Todoh silently walking behind her
The few first minutes in the car ride were spent in silence … Todoh stole a few glances at her, as she was waging a war inside her stubborn head
Saena kept thinking about things over and over … what did she ever do to make things that clear, it's as if this woman saw through her, and it scared her … (if she saw me a few seconds a day and read me this easily … then how are others viewing her now … is my mask really gone?!)
Her thoughts wandered elsewhere … trying to figure out what type of help her neighbor was trying to suggest … although deep down she knew it, her stubbornness kept denying it
Todoh wasn't sure what was going on in her mind but thought (hopefully this might convince her to seek some type of help)
His hopes were swiftly dashed when a frustrated Saena expressed: I don't get it! … what's the point of seeing someone whose only job is to sit around and listen to other people's problems?
Todoh chuckled and said: Ironically, our job is similar, but the difference is that our solutions are lawsuits we start and try to win!
Saena looked at him dumbfounded by his response because she never viewed her job in that manner, but she did have to admit that he wasn't wrong
Saena: I don't see it that way, don't compare our jobs in such a manner!
Todoh: sorry … I'll stop!
Saena: I know you're not wrong, … I just have too much pride in how hard we worked to get here, … I'm sure being a psychologist doesn't require a bar test … maybe they do get some type of certification to do their practice, but I don't see the point in talking to one!
Todoh: doesn't talking to someone help?
Saena: Sure, it did! … but there is a limit to what help is provided … I have talked to Katagiri-san, and Takarada-san … but will that solve my current situation? … I don't think so
Todoh looked at her raising an eyebrow without commenting
Saena: don't even go there, if you think I forgot to mention you, then you're wrong, … you already know much more than they currently do!
Todoh conceded: fair point!
Saena: I don't see the point of telling my story to more people than necessary … I mean, that lawyer didn't offer much advice other than go get mental help … what are they going to do? … talk some sense into that lady?! … that's the last place I will ever go to, because you know if I'm caught talking to one, she will use that against me! … enough that she's painting Kyoko in such a disturbing manner!
Todoh understood her point clearly … he personally didn't know if going to one would help, because his views were similar, if only slightly different
Saena: going to one would be just like talking to some stranger on the street and expecting them to give me some magical solution to solve this … only difference is one has a degree and the other doesn't!
Todoh: I can't really argue with that, because I always thought similarly … I wasn't going to convince you to go to one, because I know how you feel about that …
Irritated, Saena asked: then why do people keep suggesting I should see a therapist?!
Todoh: because they may believe that a stranger's perspective will be different, perhaps the fact I know everything, makes my judgment no different than yours, and someone with fresh eyes can see matters differently and may have some type of advice that may help
Saena: may?! … what am I going to do if I go to one and they give me no useful advice? … I will just slander my name further and paint myself as someone who can't handle anything, … and waste money above all! … not going to happen!
Todoh sighed heavily knowing that he won't be able to change her mind, thinking (I knew it was a long shot, but, our options are extremely limited, … if she's not convinced they could be of any help, then it won't help even if she were to go to one … I really don't know what help I can offer! … but I'm not willing to watch her collapse because of this, I will do anything)
He then thought (If only I could hold her hand through it all ….) … his thoughts were cut off when Saena spoke again
Saena: It's pointless … I can handle this on my own! We will sue her for slander and force her to shut up before the damage becomes impossible to undo
Todoh: sure! … Katagiri is already on it! … just hold on for a little longer!
Saena looked away and whispered: I'll try …
Todoh heard her but didn't comment further … he drove away towards their next destination, hoping for answers along the way
(In Yashiro's car)
Kyoko approached the car wearing her hat and sunglasses, making Yashiro question at first who it was who was approaching them, but when the door opened, Kyoko said: Sorry, I'm late?
Yashiro: no, you're on time … come in Kyoko-chan … Good morning
Ren look at Kyoko with concern as she looked out of the window, and fidgeted in place before replaying with: Good morning …
Yashiro: Are you worried that people will see you here?
Kyoko: maybe … if they see me here, they will know my mom lives here too, and … reporters are already after her!
Yashiro: you mean, they are at her place of work?
Kyoko: Yes, … Katagiri-san told her not to come to the office today, so she and Todoh-san will do work elsewhere for today
Yashiro nodded and sighed heavily saying: This really sucks!
Kyoko smiled sadly and said: yeah … tell me about it! … (she chuckled to herself) and sarcastically said: what a good way to start a morning!
Yashiro: the president already contacted me today morning … he wants us to have a meeting, if we can't make it to the office, we can call him once we arrive on set since we will still have some time
Kyoko nodded and said: I understand … I was planning to contact him anyway … I …
Ren held her hand and said: it's ok, you don't have to hold back!
Kyoko shook her head and said: I don't think crying will help me, … I want to fight this! … this won't break me, I won't allow it to do so!
Yashiro: good thinking Kyoko-chan! … but, what are you planning to do?
Kyoko: perhaps I should deny the news? … I'm still not sure, I think I might have a better idea once I talk to the president, … but silence isn't working either, so …
Yashiro: you're right, we tried both denying the news and staying silent, neither worked
Ren: how about you talk about it in our interview, tomorrow night!
Kyoko look at him in confusion, forgetting about the interview they had scheduled for weeks now … she remembered after opening her planner and said: oh, that one!
Yashiro: you must have forgotten about it because of all the chaos going on!
Kyoko nodded and said: I'm very upset about it, … especially after what was said today
Yashiro: you have every right to be upset with this! … they said so many terrible things
Ren saw through Kyoko's emotions … she was trying very hard to keep a strong front, so she can avoid letting this matter bother her further … he wanted to do anything to help her, but wasn't sure how
Kyoko: if I was to talk in the interview, what am I supposed to say?! … I don't even know what question they may ask
Yashiro: we will need to prepare for each possible question, and don't worry, we usually have a meeting with the host beforehand, to discuss possible questions
Ren: just remember, whatever you believe is true in fact, even if you had a different feeling at some point, what you say now, is what you truly believe!
Kyoko: so, spin things to seem more positive than it actually is?
Yashiro: yes, the president said that too, … if you want people to believe you, then you have to convince them with not only what you say, but the way you say it, … your tone and body language matter!
Ren: where do you want to start?
Kyoko: hmm … maybe, the fact I stayed behind in Kyoto
Yashiro: good point to start with!
Ren: do you think it was a good thing you stayed in Kyoto, at that time?
Kyoko nodded and said: yes! … I think that was the right course of action, Katagiri-san told my mother to leave me with Yayoi-san, and come to work for him
Yashiro: let's say, for now at least, your mother had a good work opportunity, and couldn't take you at first, for whatever reason! … you liked where you were and so things remained that way
Ren: there are surely ways to make that sound more convincing!
Kyoko: maybe I can say that I didn't want to leave my hometown, because … (she then looked down) and said: never mind, that was stupid!
Yashiro: it's not Kyoko-chan! … it's a good thing!
Kyoko: I will think about that more later, … maybe we can address something else … like the abuse thing
Yashiro: you weren't physically abused, right?!
Kyoko: beyond pushing my hand away, no … we just never got along back then
Yashiro: hmm … I mean, that is abusive to an extent, but would you consider it physically abusive?!
Kyoko: I never thought of myself as abused, she did tell me that she was terrified that she would end up doing so, so that's why I was put in Yayoi-san's care
Yashiro: which means she didn't actually do any physical damage!
Kyoko nodded and said: none, as far as I remember! … besides, saying that I'm mentally ill because of that is stupid! … is believing in fairies that bad?
Ren: the way I see it, you have a wild imagination and you have a huge love for those types of things, nothing wrong with that! … we as people don't need to believe in the same things, but, we can't judge others for their love for something that made them happy growing up
Kyoko nodded agreeing with him wholeheartedly
Yashiro: I mean, if she has an issue with her liking fairies, then she has a problem with half the world … some people believe in aliens! … others believe magic is real! …
Ren: if they have a problem with 17-year-old liking fairies and princesses, then I'm sorry, they must have never met my mother! … she's 40 something years old, who loves Disney with a passion … she basically lives for those kinds of things!
Kyoko was joyfully surprised, asking excitingly: your mother loves princesses?! … and fairies?! … and all things in between!?
Ren nodded and confirmed saying: you would totally get along! … she can spend a whole week in Disney, and never get tired of it! … I fear that if you meet her, she would take you there, and we might never see you two again!
Kyoko squeaked in excitement, saying: I can't wait to meet her, one day!
Ren smiled and said: I'm sure she's eagerly excited to meet you too!
Yashiro smile and was excited at the idea ok Kyoko meeting Ren's parents, but decided not to think too much about that, since they had a serious matter to discuss and he couldn't get too distracted
Ren: Many people like cute things like fairies? … how can she wrap that up like that! … it's truly disturbing!
Kyoko: Am I supposed to stop liking the things that I enjoyed growing up?! … is she trying to turn the thing I like into some mental illness so I would distance myself from them, and then what?! … brainwash me to think she's better for me?! … that everything I liked in Kyoto is worthless?!
Yashiro: good point! … maybe she's trying to get you to distance yourself from the things you like, so she can replace them with things she wants!
Ren: she's underestimating us, big time! … we won't allow her to force you to be someone you aren't! … the real Kyoko that we know can love whatever she wants!
Kyoko: thank you … you both are very supportive!
Yashiro: that's what friends do for each other … and as your manager, I take it as a personal mission to make sure no one is hurting you or forcing you to do things against your will!
Ren: who is Kyoko, if she didn't like princesses, fairies, and magic! … although those things don't define you as a person, they are a huge part of your life, and we respect that, and love that about you!
Yashiro: you have such a bubbly and cute personality and that is related to the fact you love adorable things like that! … if we ever thought that was an issue to be addressed, we would have talked to you about it, but, frankly is completely normal to like those things, so we never thought twice about supporting your love for them!
Kyoko: oh yeah! … my mom also thinks it's fine that I like those things! In fact, … look! … (she took out her new phone and said: she even got me a phone along with this adorable case!
Yashiro couldn't look but listened and smiled happily for Kyoko's sake … he was happy she had become more cheerful as they talked and hoped that she will remain cheerful … he concluded that those two meet one another gives both of them some abnormal magical strength and decided that he will have them meet as much as possible to make sure those two are happy all the time!
Ren smiled and said: that's wonderful! … it truly suits you well!
Kyoko agreed in excitement: I know right! … its purple, has fairies and glitter, what more do I need?!
The rest of the ride was spent in that matter, they talk about things that made Kyoko happy, helping her remain cheerful as she slowly forgot what bothered her
She was contacted by Kanae, who woke up at the same time as the people in Japan, due to her Jet lag … she saw the news and was truly worried about Kyoko … so she called her friend not caring about what rates she would pay for an international call
She told Kyoko that all she wanted to do is be by her side, and she wished she could hug her, which make Kyoko very touched and happy, promising to remember the hug when they see each other again
Kanae gave her friend words of encouragement, as that was the only thing she was able to think about … and said that if she wanted her to make a statement, then she will and was more than willing to defend her and all her beloved fairies
Kyoko felt like she was truly loved and supported by her favorite people and was glad she had such a strong support system around her … she promised that stay strong, and will fight back as much as she can!
(In the Grad-Jewel Hotel)
Hiroki saw the news and was extremely upset about it … he thought that his grandmother is officially out of control and something needed to be done because he truly believed that Kyoko and her mother didn't deserve what is happening to them
He went to his parent's room, to see what they were up to, and walked in to see his father sitting down in despair, while his mother walked back and forth throwing out possible ideas to stop Nanami
Kioshi: that won't work Anna, I told her what she said yesterday, she will simply not pick up the phone … he had texted me asking why she hadn't called him yet!
Anna: Can't you call him and give her the phone!
Kioshi: she can simply hang up!
Anna: I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas around, seeing which one would stick!
Kioshi: I'm not sure telling him would do us any good! … he will kill me before he can give me any useful advice!
Anna: how about we scare her with a possible defamation lawsuit
Kioshi: oh! … she didn't care! … Mogami-san said she would take legal action! … but I told her that I still don't think that will stop my mother!
Hiroki wondered (when did he meet Kyoko's mother?)
Anna: going to the police wasn't effective either! … we're literally out of options at this point!
Hiroki came in and said: you confessed to the police?!
Kioshi looked at his son and nodded, saying: I thought that might change her mind, but I only caused more trouble to Mogami-san and her lawyer … or co-worker … whatever you want to call him!
Hiroki: and you were able to walk out freely?! … the police didn't do anything to you?!
Anna: They have his confession, but since the case was never legally pursued, and no police report was issued … he was able to walk out without any punishment
Kioshi: besides they did mention that the statute of limitation has already passed on such crime, so there was nothing the police can do, even if I confessed … the only trouble I would face is a lawsuit if Mogami-san pressed charges, and she made it very clear yesterday that she wouldn't
Anna: then what can we do?! … this is terrible for them! … the last thing we wanted is for something like this to happen!
Hiroki thought for some time than suggested: how about you go out publicly?! … tell the people that grandma is lying about them!
Kioshi: I would have, if I wasn't told no to do so … they told me off, although I offered to set the record straight publicly
Hiroki: why?! … they don't think it would help?!
Anna: it might have the same effect, as her childhood friend's statement, revealing too much will just hurt them, … maybe staying out of it is the best option
Kioshi: but it's not! … if my mother doesn't stop she will destroy them! … she's merciless! … she said she didn't mind hurting Kyoko if she didn't listen to her … and that's just … bullshit!
Hiroki: I mean she already released her mother's name and accused her of physical abuse resulting in severe mental illness … how far can she go beyond that?
Anna: I'm afraid she still has a chance to do more damage … her lies alone did enough damage, but who can stop her from going even further!
Kioshi: I'm such a fool! … I'm an idiot! … I shouldn't have told her about Kyoko! … I caused so much damage over the pain that must have never healed since long ago!
Hiroki: then who can stop her then!? … who can stop grandma if grandpa can't!?
Anna: the law, but that will take time, and the damage might be too severe to fix by the time it takes any effect!
Kioshi held his head in frustration since he couldn't do anything
Hiroki: then, we will never see her again! … she has to choose between us and Kyoko!
Anna: that didn't work either, she chooses to pursue Kyoko over her own son!
Kioshi: maybe it's time to move to a different hotel! … I want to distance myself as much as possible!
Hiroki: we can't move that soon; my friends are coming and some are staying here because of me! … they can't cancel their reservation now!
Anna: what will moving do, anyway?!
Kioshi: maybe I should confess my actions to your father!
Anna raised an eyebrow, saying: you want your father to know about her after mine?!
Kioshi: maybe he can give some advice … I don't know
Anna: I don't know, but I think my dad will go to yours the instant he hears what you did!
Kioshi: then what?! … stay still and watch in silence?! … because that's our only option!
Anna nodded and said: let's hope things end here, somehow~!
Hiroki was so frustrated as well, and he decided that he would make an anonymous account online to defend Kyoko without revealing anything
(In the filming studio)
Kyoko arrived at the filming Studio with Yashiro, who drove Ren to his work first
As she walked in, Momose Ran to her and hugged her tightly, saying: I'm sorry you're going through all this!
Kyoko: Thank you Momose-san!
Momose smile and said: let's go to your dressing room and talk! … we talked earlier and I think we can do something about this … we have an interview tomorrow, remember!
Kyoko: yeah, I was reminded of that earlier!
Momose: sorry, Yashiro, but I will take her for a while! … we don't have any scenes for another hour or two!
Yashiro let them go and went ahead to call the president about what happened on the way to the studio
** In Kyoko's dressing room **
Kyoko and Momose talked a little about what was happening and what she was planning for that interview if the president agreed
Momose asked: so how are you going to answer the questions?! … let's practice together, maybe we can think of clever answers for anything you are stuck on
Kyoko told her about the fact she stayed behind in Kyoto and their initial idea on how to answer questions about it
Momose: that's not bad, but … I think we can explain things differently!
Kyoko: how so!?
Momose: let's think of it this way! you said you were 6-7 years old then when your mother moved to Tokyo, a big unknown city to you two!
A light bulb lit in Kyoko's mind, so she cried saying: I get it! … that's perfect Momose-san! … I didn't come to Tokyo because my mother couldn't take me here as a 7-year-old! … I was much more familiar with Kyoto and the people around me, and the move happened during the school year! … it would make more sense for her to leave me with people she trusted than bring me to a city where I didn't know anyone!
Momose: exactly! … if your mother provided support, you can also mention that
Kyoko: although I didn't know back then, my mother did send monetary support!
Momose: next!
Kyoko: hmmm, the abuse part is incorrect, will physically at least!
Kazumi knocked and came in when granted permission, he greeted Kyoko and said: I hope you're ok, … I hate that you're going through crap like this!
Momose: we're trying to find a reasonable explanation for her past since we have an interview tomorrow
Kazumi: oh, your last ever "Dark Moon" event?!
Momose: when you say it like that, it makes me sad! … it has honestly been one of my favorite series to film!
Kyoko: me too! … Mio has a very special place in my heart!
Kazumi: so, what are you talking about right now
Momose explained to him what they were talking about
Kazumi: I mean, what do you consider abuse to be?
Kyoko: hmmm … not feeling loved, feeling shunned at times, not being touched by my mother, at that time at least, things have changed a lot since … my biggest problem was my average grades
Kazumi: I get how that can be emotionally abusive … but when you say grades, do you mean she wanted you to get better grades?
Kyoko: more like full marks, … perfect grades, nothing else mattered!
Kazumi: that's awfully strict, but I've seen people like that, a friend of mine would be terrified if they got less than 95% … parents can be strict sometimes, especially when their expectations for you are very high
Momose: that true … my parents weren't strict in that aspect, but they expected me to do my best and would be disappointed if I fail something because I didn't care enough to do it properly
Kyoko: I guess I can use that, parents have expectations, that might be too high for the child to achieve, as they do cause pressure and stress … something along those lines
Kazumi: yeah … there are plenty of horror stories of abuse, and some strict parents are way worse than just not touching their child … so maybe avoid talking about the mental aspect and mention grades as a normal example
Momose: I mean your mom is a lawyer, so she must be strict by nature, right?!
Kyoko nodded and said: yeah … when I look back at it now, I don't think it was that bad!
Kazumi: that great to hear! … what's next?!
Momose: maybe we can talk about this mental illness nonsense! … I will personally speak out against it during the interview! … I mean I've known you for a while and I never saw anything concerning your behavior! … you're a unique girl with an awesome personality, and no one has a right to assume you're mentally ill because of things you love
Kazumi: I think that's a good idea, what's better than personal accounts of what you've seen and known about Kyoko-san! … besides a severely mentally ill person wouldn't be able to work and act out different characters! … I mean, maybe they would be it will be extremely challenging since they also have to manage their illness?!
Momose: that's true! … besides! … I personally like magical things, I might not believe they are true, but part of me does, sometimes … does that make me ill!?
Kazumi: I believed dragons really existed until someone made me feel stupid about it, but hey! … some animals give you dragon impressions, no?!
Momose: like lizards?
Kazumi: yeah! … I mean, I like the fire and ice-breathing dragons, but I guess they don't exist for a good reason!
Momose: they would destroy cities, just like any action movie villains!
Kyoko smiled and said: I'm happy I have people like you guys around!
Kazumi: we're happy to have met you and acted alongside you … don't let that crap get to you!
Momose: yup! … (she looked at the time) then said: we should get ready now though … we can talk further during the break, ok?!
Kyoko: sure! … thank you
Kazumi: hey! … that's what friends are for! … we're no longer just co-workers! We are friends for life!
Momose: I couldn't agree more!
All three of them went to get ready, and joined one another on set … things went well, with so little NG's done by supporting characters
Kyoko felt like her support system made her much stronger, and helped her put everything away, to do her best work possible
During the break, they all sat down and analyzed the news one by one, coming with possible ways Kyoko could replay to them … Kyoko took notes, so she can run those ideas through her mother and the president.
At some point, Kazumi suggested that they should ask her childhood friend to give a statement, after letting him know what she was going to say, so they can be on the same page
To Kyoko's surprise, Momose agreed with him, reasoning, that he already put himself in that position, and that it would be bad if he said something that contradicts her answers
Kyoko tried to argue that she had fought with him and that he said he wouldn't help her anymore, and therefore she doesn't think he will say anything
Momose argued back saying that it would be weird if he suddenly goes quiet, and people will assume he is being forced to hide something
Kazumi agreed with her and said: if he really wanted to help and he messed it all up, allow him to redeem himself by proving that he did it for your sake! … that way, you know If he actually cares or not … some guys have large ego's and sometimes it blinds them!
Kyoko wasn't sure, she still didn't like the idea, but couldn't disagree with the points Momose mentioned … she reluctantly agreed and said that she will contact her mother about it first
That's when Momose suggested that she would contact Sho herself, to ease things on Kyoko and explain the current situation without causing tensions between the two
She also secretly wanted to be the one to contact Sho, because she thought that things might get messy between Kyoko and Ren if Kyoko went to Sho for help … just like before … so to avoid issues likes that, she didn't mind becoming the middleman … all that for Kyoko's sake
Kyoko sent an email to her mother with all her notes and ideas, then texted her about the email and asked if letting Sho fix his mistake with giving similar ideas work
She got a reply before going back on set, letting her know that it was ok, as long as she's ok with it herself, and told her not to pressure herself to contact him after their fight. She also noted that Katagiri had scolded him, so she wasn't sure if Sho will respond to her or not
Kyoko texted her back telling her the Momose-san was going to contact him instead, and that she's glad she got a reply … she also said that she was going to contact the president in the same manner
She took a quick minute to send an email to the president explaining everything while including her notes … as well as the fact they will contact Sho, too
She went to her bag to return her phone before joining everyone on set, but before putting her phone away, she reopened it, sent a text, then ran off to join her co-stars to resume work
(In Shoko's apartment)
Shoko walked around her apartment and sighed heavily, not knowing how to talk to Sho after what happened
Sho had returned with a swollen face, and a terrible temper after disappearing for an hour or two … he had finished a job and left in a hurry after seeing that Ren was on a familiar talk show
She had asked him what had happened, but he gave her the silent treatment, not wanting to talk to her, or anyone in that manner. She did see him on the phone twice, once with his mother and the other seemed to be made by his uncle, and they both left him with a terribly foul mood, that she couldn't handle
Sho finally came out of his room, but said nothing … he walked by her, took a beer from the fridge, and walked back to his room, slamming the door shut
Shoko covered her ears and thought (what am I supposed to do?! … he has a job in 2 hours and he won't even talk to me, … and drinking beer now is a bad idea!) … she knocked on the door and said: don't drink, you have a job in 2 hours!
Hearing no replay, she wanted to open the door and forcefully take the beer away, but instead, she heard a loud thud and then saw the beer spilling on the floor … she assumed that Sho threw the beer can on the door out of frustration
Sho remained quiet… although he did curse under his breath
Shoko heard a phone ringing behind her, so she went and picked it up, then answered: hello, this is Aki Shoko … who am I talking to?
Momose: Hi, this is Momose Itsumi, am I talking with Fuwa Sho's manager?
Shoko: wait, you're the main actress from "Dark Moon" … how did you get my number
Momose: ah, my manager contacted your agency, we were trying to get in touch with Fuwa-san, but he isn't answering his phone, … is he currently working
Shoko: not really, … he does have work in 2 hours from now, but, may I know what you need from him?
Momose: I'm calling him on behalf of Kyoko, … I'm aware things are messy between those two, so I'm here as a middleman, to perhaps help remedy the problem to the best of my abilities
Shoko: oh?! … so, something did happen, … as I thought! … that fool couldn't control himself, could he!
Momose: I hope this isn't trouble for you, but can you connect me with him, just tell him I'm Momose
Shoko: I'll try, he hasn't been in a good mood, so no promises!
Momose: I understand, I'll wait …
Shoko knocked on the door, but she still didn't get a reply, so she opened the door slowly
Sho: Get out! … I never said you can come in!
Shoko: sorry, but someone is trying to reach you!
Sho: I don't care! … I don't want to talk to anyone!
Shoko sighed and persisted, saying: she's Itsumi Momose, from "Dark Moon"
Fortunately, that was enough to get his attention … Sho got up and asked: where is the phone?!
Shoko handed him the phone and hoped that he didn't act like a fool
Sho: Hello?!
Momose: oh, Hi … hello … I'm …
Sho interrupted: I was told … your Momose Itsumi-san … how can I help you?
Momose: can we talk about something important?
Unsure, Sho cautiously asked: about?
Momose: about Kyoko-chan
Sho went silent as he got upset … he was about to pull away from the phone and hang up
But Momose followed quickly: it's about today's news! … we need your help!
Sho scoffed: bullshit! … I'm sorry but I'm not interested! … I was told loudly and clearly that my help isn't needed … I don't know what you're up to! … but leave me out of it!
Nervous, Momose pleaded: Wait! … please hear me out first!
Sho: I appreciate your concern for your friend, but she made it clear she doesn't want me involved!
Momose: but you are now! … and you can't change that! … in fact, she's aware I'm calling you right now!
Sho raised an eyebrow and asked: she told you to call me?!
Momose explained: it was our suggestion, but she contacted her mother and boss and they both agreed that this is a good idea!
Becoming Extremely confused, Sho asked: why me, … she can just ask that black-haired dude for help since his help is much more appreciated
Momose understood the whole situation, and so she tried to sugarcoat some facts to lure Sho in, saying: I understand that you might not like Tsuraga-san, but he can't be as useful as you are now! … you're her childhood friend and everyone knows that now!
Sho smirked when he heard that he was more useful than Ren, but he wasn't fully in yet, so he asked: Sure, … but I don't understand, she told me that I ruined everything, why is she coming to me now?!
Momose bit back her frustration, and calmly explained: look, when I saw your statement, I thought of two things, one, Kyoko wouldn't like that … but, … I also thought that you cared enough to defend her and her mother! … I've heard what happened between you two, and I understand why you are upset!
Sho looked down, thinking of a way to respond, but Momose continued: you feel like she didn't appreciate your efforts! … and I'm open to hearing your side if you would like to share it!
Sho: Yeah, that's right, … I went out of my way to look like a bad guy and defended them both, but she slapped me instead of thanking me! … she made me feel like crap, and I get it! … I said more than needed, I understand that now! … but, still! … I feel hurt, and I think I'm allowed to feel that way!
Momose: you are! … I get your point of view … as I said, I heard her part and I learned that she felt guilty for dismissing your efforts … she is still upset though, due to the news that came out today!
Sho: wait! … no one told me something new came up today!
Momose: you were right! … they won't stop whether she responded or not! … the news that came today revealed a lot of things, some are correct, while others are just lies, … I can wait, if you want to check them out for yourself!
Sho thought about it and agreed, so he asked her to wait and opened his phone, checking the most recent news … he read it a few times before registering what he was reading … His heart dropped for a minute … he kept reading and as he read his face paled further … once he finished reading, he almost looked paler than a ghost
Shoko looked at him and felt a little guilty … she knew that Sho was upset for Kyoko's sake and he tried to help in his own way … but when she saw the news that morning, she knew that he screwed up, so she didn't tell him about it … despite the fact he wasn't talking to her anyways
Sho: this came out today!? … she broke her pattern, that old lady!
Momose: Yes, … I assume they thought releasing news on Sunday won't garner much attention
Sho: crap! … this is …
Momose: terrible?! … I know
Sho: Yet, she agreed on your plan to contact me, not only her but her mother and her Agency's president?
Momose: Yes, … here's the thing! … tomorrow night we have an interview, and we expect the host to ask a few questions concerning this matter! … she plans to respond by telling her own versions of events
Perplexed, Sho asked: how will she deny the truth, … since there is some truth to some of the news!
Momose: she doesn't need to deny anything, she can clarify it cleverly! … if you have time, I can tell you everything we discussed, if not, I would suggest you watch the interview and understand her answers properly
Sho: and what's my role in all this?
Momose: to confirm that what she said is true, … people might pursue you because you're her childhood friend and if you refuse to answer, then someone might think that we forced you to be silent, … moreover, your silence can be perceived as her side trying to paint a fake picture, if you know what I mean
Sho: here's the problem, both my mother and uncle told me to stay out of it?!
Momose: and are you going to listen to them? I always thought you did whatever you wanted! … besides her mother is aware, I'm sure since she works with your uncle, she will let him know, if not, make your intentions clear with them first
Sho: initially, you tell me to be a rebel and now you tell me to ask them first?
Momose: I'm just giving you some options … honestly!
Sho: Well, I'm just getting mixed signals! … any way, … I think I would rather give it a thought before agreeing to this because I don't know if this is a good idea!
Momose: I know why your hesitating! … you really wanted to help and it didn't go as well as you thought it would, so you're not sure you want to go through that again!
Sho: since you are being respectful, can I ask you something
Momose: sure, go ahead!
Sho: why isn't she the one requesting my help, … I mean, it's not that I don't believe you, but …if she really wanted my help then ….
Momose: I know what you mean, … she's using someone else to reach you seems off-putting, but you need to realize her current position, … she's trying her best to stay positive despite all the news coming out! … I know that she still dealing with other matter in the background as well, so please understand why she's not reaching out to you personally … besides, I really don't want to state the obvious, if you know what I mean!
Irritated, Sho: are you saying that's it's my fault?!
Momose: Not that! … I'm sure you just don't want to admit it's true! … I can spell it to you if needed because I can! … I just prefer not to raise my fingers and play the blame game! … what's done is done, and it can't be changed!
Sho: I guess your right!
Momose: so, do you want to hear me out about our ideas or are you going to watch the show?
Sho: is Tsuraga Ren appearing?
Momose: he's the main lead, so he will definitely be there!
Sho: then, you obviously know my answer!
Momose: alright then, how much time do I have, … so if needed, I can summarize!
Sho: I have time, so go ahead, I'm listening
Momose: Thank you!
She spent nearly 20 minutes explaining their plan and once she was done, she asked: what do you think?!
Sho: are you being serious?!
Momose: yeah! … did I not sound serious?!
Sho: no, … I mean, is she seriously ok with this?! … overlooking things and spinning them in that way?!
Momose: I'm not sure I know what you mean!
Sho: her mother wasn't physically abusive, sure! … but the mental abuse was a huge blow to Kyoko, is she just going to pretend she's ok with all that … plus, Kyoko was never ok with the fact her mother left! … at least that's how I see it!
Momose: but you have to admit, we didn't tell any lies!
Sho: are you saying that she actually believes that it was good for them to live apart?!
Unsure, Momose: was I not clear in my explanations?
Sho: you were, … it's just my mind kept drifting away because it's hard to believe that those are her beliefs now!
Momose: will you have to account for the fact they talked about the past before, and that Kyoko heard the backstory to what really happened, reasons, and whatever else she learned, and I guess from her current knowledge it's easier for her to understand why things happened the way they did!
Sho: I'm not sure if it's wise to not include the mental abuse!
Momose: I'm not sure why she would paint her mother as an abusive parent if she believes she isn't, I get that you saw her pain growing up, but as we grow we tend to process matters differently, especially after we hear the real story behind it!
Sho: I mean, … they already know that she was abused when she was kid, so, …
Momose: they don't, as far as Kyoko knows at least, … I assume you heard something new?!
Sho: More like, I'm the one who told them
Shocked, Momose asked: you told them what?! … wait, this messes up everything!
Sho hears a background voice asking something, but he couldn't really make out the words … but then he suddenly hears Kyoko taking the phone and asking: what the hell did you tell them?!
Sho: I … I'm sorry!
Upset, Kyoko urged: Answer me!
Sho: I only told the oldest son of that family, I don't exactly remember when his father came, but I don't think I said much to him
Kyoko: Hiroki?!
Sho: who's that?!
Kyoko: the oldest son! … his name is Hiroki! … when did you meet him and why?!
Sho explained to her what happened at the Diner and then said: I'm sorry
Kyoko calmed down a little and asked: so, everyone was there, but the grandmother?!
Sho: Yeah, I didn't see her there!
Kyoko sighed then said: I will call you back! … (then she hung up)
Sho looked at the phone with confusion, he was unsure how to feel about the last part of the conversation, … he did sense that she wasn't outraged as she was in the beginning
After nearly 10 minutes, the phone rang again, so he answered
Kyoko: well, maybe you should be thanking your lucky stars! … he didn't tell anyone but his mother, and whatever his dad knows will not be communicated to his grandmother!
Sho: wait! … what the hell?!
Kyoko: what?!
Sho: you know him?!
Kyoko: yeah, … he's the oldest son of that family
Sho: that's not what I meant! … how would you know all this within 10 minutes?!
Kyoko simply answered: I emailed him?!
Sho: you mean the oldest son?! … you're in contact with them?! … I thought …
Kyoko: only with him! … I'm not interested in talking to the guy or his mother!
Sho: I thought … we'll I was told that you refused to meet him and his family
Kyoko: well, I realized I met him before learning he's that guy's son, … we met twice in fact! … I also met his mother … in fact, I'm the one who recommended that Diner and rice ball to him!
Shocked, Sho said: you?!
Kyoko: yeah … I'm glad he gave you a dose of your own medicine! … I should've thanked him honestly!
Sho: HEY!
Kyoko: never mind that, … I'm going to leave the option open! … you can either stick to what Momose-san explains to you or not say anything!
Sho: you don't sound mad anymore!
Kyoko: well, I don't want to take my anger on Momose-san's phone, and being angry right now won't help me!
Sho: are you sure? … about this plan, despite them knowing a few things, when if that old lady heard them talking or something!
Kyoko: I can just blame you for running your mouth, … I thought Katagiri-san told you not to talk to them, yet you went ahead and ignored him!
Sho: I'm was pissed, ok?! … he took all the rice balls I wanted, and he's living his best life when you …
Kyoko: I didn't have a terrible life! … I was well-taken care of, and I'm all grown up now, I'm not upset anymore! … just get over yourself, you man-child!
Sho: what's with you calling me that all the time
Kyoko: I'm done, … thank you for lending me your phone, Momose-san
Sho: Wait! … why do you always exist the conversation on your own accord!
Momose: that happened before?!
Sho: yeah … anyways, I will think about it, and I will let you know
Momose: yes, please, …. Thank you!
Sho: I …
Momose: yes?
Sho: nothing … never mind, … I should head out and get ready for work, … thank you for reaching out to me, despite what I did
Momose: well, I'm glad I could offer you a chance to redeem yourself and possibly fix something you didn't mean to ruin … your childhood friends after all, and it would be terrible if you threw something like that away because you have history and it can help you two be helpful to one another!
Sho was unsure how to react, … he didn't want to be just childhood friends, although he knew he ruined his chances to be with her romantically, due to his ego, pride, and idiocy, … but he wasn't going to admit that, and give up, as long as Kyoko was single, he thought he still had a chance!
The conversation ended there, and Sho was back to his normal self again … he wasn't as grumpy at least, and Shoko was eternally thankful for that
Sho did contact Momose and agreed to their terms, he also gave them more information and allowed Kyoko to be free to say whatever she wants about him and their friendship, as well as his meeting with her father and grandma
