The Story of Us

Chapter 10:- Closer? Definitely

Misaki looked at the kids sitting in front of her and let out an exasperated sigh.

"You guys ran away from your home?" She asked.

Emi pressed her lips together before taking a glance at the boy sitting beside her. Shinichi had his head down and was fiddling with his fingers. He looked quite nervous. Emi looked up at the adult who was looking at them with a questionable look. Looks like, their little secret had somehow reached her ear and now she had both Shinichi and Emi sitting in her house on their couch.

Emi only nodded as no words left her mouth. She now clearly understood why this lady was known as the 'Demon-prez'

Another loud sigh escaped from Misaki as she face-palmed. She knew something was off, Takumi would've never allowed his son to set a foot in Japan! She shook her head. The situation was way messier than she expected, if that guy comes to Japan and somehow meets Ryuu- she didn't want to imagine the rest.

"You two need to go back"

"We can't" Shinichi replied with a small voice as he shook his head.

Misaki frowned, "Why?"

The boy took a deep breath, "I despise that place. Nobody listens to my wish. I want to be a singer but they won't let me. I wanted to make friends with many people but they won't let me. Now they went ahead and planned my engagement with Emi without our consent!"

"Plus-" Emi added, "Shinichi's dad knows about us. He's the one who told us to run away."

"He knows you two are in Japan…?"

Silence filled the room. Misaki looked outside the window, of course he doesn't know. But what the boy said shocked her more. He grew up lonely? Why? Was he that much of a bad father?

"Hey, Misa-chan, can I share something?"

Misaki turned to look at her husband. It was Sunday; they were lazing around in their bed, "Go ahead."

Takumi looked sideways as he ran a hand through his blond hair. Misaki didn't know if it was her pregnancy hormones thinking, but boy, he looked sexy.

"Do you think I'll be a good father?"

His question made her sit up. "Why wouldn't you be?"

He shrugged, "I don't know, I'm not very good at expressing my feelings." After pausing a moment he added, "Plus I never had a father, you know. Now that we're expecting a baby I'm getting scared."

Misaki smiled at him, "You'll be a great father."

"You think…?"

Misaki leaned in and placed a small kiss on his lips, who knew he was feeling insecure inside, "Look, it's new to both of us and I'm sure it's going to be hard but we will work through it together."

Takumi smiled as he pulled her close. Only she could disappear all his worries with only one sentence.

"Let's work on it together then, correct me when I fail."

"I will."

Maybe nobody corrected him when he failed. He had always been a man of very few words; maybe that's why he could not get closer to his son. Misaki turned her head towards the two teens who were looking at her expecting her to say something.

They were lost- she could see it.

They wanted a adult to lean on- she could feel it.

But she had her own song to take care of; funny how she was even feeling sad to this boy, to his son. Ryuu never knew the love of a father because of this boy. But again it was the adult's fault. She could never blame Shinichi for whatever happened in the past.

"I get your issues but still you two need to inform your parents, if they want you two to go back then go and fight. Running away solves nothing." Misaki sighed and patted both their heads, "Call them."

Emi tried to gulp the lump which was beginning to form in her throat. She missed her mother but she was happy here too. Running away solves nothing- this hit a nerve. She was right even after they go back the engagement would be on. What Shinichi and she needed to do was to go back there and fight.

Suddenly Shinichi stood up making both girls look up to him, "I'll think about it." He added before getting out of there.

:::

Ryuu was not sure if telling his mother about Shinichi and Emi was right but it felt like the right thing to do back then. After that his mom decided to have a talk with them. He wasn't allowed to be present there though. Two days have passed since then. His mom seemed absent-minded. He could not find Shinichi other than classes; Emi did not answer his texts. Now it definitely felt what he did was wrong. He did something unnecessary.

His legs stopped when he saw a familiar mob of black hair. Before he knew it, he called out his name.

Shinichi turned, "What do you want from me now Mr Goody shoes?"

Ryuu winced at his voice but walked up to him, "I am sorry." He muttered, "I should not have-"

"Look-" Shinichi said firmly, "Whatever you did was right. I am not mad at you or something. No need to apologize."

Ryuu frowned, "Then why are you so quiet?"

Shinichi shrugged, "What she said really hit me."

"What did she say?"

"She said to go back and fight."

Ryuu chuckled. That really sounded like something Ayuzawa Misaki would say.

"Actually" Added the brunette, "Sometimes I get really jealous of you. You have such a great mom."

Ryuu shook his head as he put his hands in his pocket, "She just pretends to be strong. So, what will you do?"

"I don't know. I like it here."

Ryuu nodded, "By the way, do you know that Yui is facing the same problem?"

Shinichi was kind of confused where this was going but nodded.

"She is planning to engage that guy right" The blond cleared his throat, "Maybe you should, you know, talk with her cause, well I guess, you two kind of have something going on." He shrugged, "Not that is my business but still maybe, I mean, if you want to."

Shinichi smirked. He was amused. How could this guy have so much difficulty saying such a simple thing! Perhaps, Mr strict president was not used to voice out his honest thoughts. So many ways, this guy resembled his father.

Shinichi smiled and nodded, "I'll have a talk with her and yes I like her."

Ryuu gave a nod.

Shinichi smirked. It would not hurt to tease him a bit, "Actually Emi is kind of down too these days, she likes you. You should have a talk with her too."

Never in a million years had he thought that Mr strict president would blush upon hearing a girl liked him. Shinichi chuckled. Ryuu was just like Misaki, hard on outside softie in inside.

"I will."

:::

Love was such a complicated thing. One month. In just one month, Yui was about to be engaged to some guy she barely knew. She knew it will be good for her, she knew it will be good for her father but still she could not stop her aching heart. She let out a loud sigh.

"That was a loud sigh."

Yui turned and yes she guessed the right person. Recently her hide-out at the rooftop has been infiltrated by a random boy. And that boy was again standing there with a smile that made her heart beat faster.

"What do you want?" She asked with an even tone.

Shinichi chuckled, "Oh hello to you too." He walked up to her before continuing, "You know Ryuu is concerned about you. He told me to talk to you."

Yui arched a brow at him, "When did you two become chat-buddies?"

"Not really. Your friend was really concerned, that's it." He shrugged.

"Well, thanks for his concern but tell him I'm okay."

"So….." Shinichi put his hands in his pocket, "….are you really going to engage to that guy?"

Yui nodded.

"Are you serious?"

She looked at him, "What choice do I have?"

"You do have a choice though."

"You want me to run away like you?"

Shinichi looked down before looking up again, "I'm planning to go back and say no though. Running won't solve a thing and you should the same. Why not just refuse..?"

The girl chuckled and shook her head, "That won't work. When my father sets his mind to something, he'll do it."

Shinichi chucked.

"Do my situation seem funny to you?" Yui frowned.

"No." He smiled, "I was just thinking how similar our situations are."

That smile. That damn smile. Yui mentally slapped herself, this was no situation to have these kinds of thoughts!

"You do have another choice though" He suddenly spoke, breaking her chain of thoughts and before the girl could even respond she found a pair of lips on hers. It was a soft kiss but Yui was shocked. She didn't even move when he let her go.

Shinichi looked at her before showing his charming smile, "I like you Yui. I really do."

Damn heart, stop running... and her legs gave in.

:::

Emi was quite, no very, sure this boy who sat in front of her knew telepathy. Every time, every fucking time, she had trouble he always came to help her. It was hard to not love him as it was but still Emi made up her mind and ignored his texts but all in vain. Now he sat in opposite of her in the library leaning on a hand flipping a book while looking breathtakingly good.

"I'm ready to listen whenever you are ready." He reminded feeling her stare.

Emi looked away, "Look Ryuu..." She cleared her throat, "...I don't know why you keep asking me about my problem. Maybe you should just leave me alone."

He looked up; hurt was evident in his eyes, "Why are you pushing me away?"

Emi sighed, yup she needed to do in the hard way, "Look nothing can happened between us."

"I thought we are friends."

"And we will be if you leave me alone."

Ryuu shook his head, "Friends don't leave each other alone."

Emi looked down. Why was he making it harder for her?! She looked up, "I called my parents."

"O-Oh"

Emi could see he was shocked.

"What did they tell?"

"They told me to come back as soon as possible but they knew about it so I did not get that much scolding."

Ryuu smiled, "That's… pretty good, right?"

"As if." She let out a sad chuckle. When he looked at her questionably she added, "I told them that I fell in love with someone here."

His eyes widened as he braced himself for what was about to come, "And….?"

"They told me to forget about it."

The boy chuckled as he leaned in, "That was expected."

"Now if you excuse-"

"Are you going to forget about him though?" He softly took her hand in his.

Emi looked at him, disbelief written all over her face. But really, talking with him felt so good. Call her cheesy but his one soft touch really made all her calm. She took a deep breath suddenly a new fighting spirit emerged, "No." She shook her head.

Ryuu grinned, "Now that's the girl I fell in love with."

:::

It wasn't really a surprise that both girls were ignoring the boys. Ryuu and Shinichi were left alone as the two girls talked with each other in the cafeteria.

"Yui is ignoring you. What did you do?"

"Emi is ignoring you too. What did you do?"

"Jeez, I really can't stand you."

"The feeling is mutual."

Both boys glared at each other. Just when they thought they could stand each other..!

Ryuu sighed. Fighting with him would lead to nothing, "Go back and come back safely." He muttered.

Shinichi smirked and cleared his throat catching both the girls, "So you mean go back and come back safely with Emi, right?"

Much to his surprise both Emi and Ryuu blushed at his comment, "Oh my.." He laughed nervously, "Please both of you don't blush or I'll get embarrassed too."

"If you don't stop right now I'll pour ketchup on your head." Emi threatened and knowing how she will exactly do that Shinichi put up his hands in surrender.

"You two really should plan something. It won't be easy to come back." This time it was Yui who spoke. The others nodded; of course it won't be easy to come back.

"If…" Emi stated, "Shinichi's father kind of agrees then maybe we will have a chance. My father won't say no to him. But for that-" Emi looked at Shinichi, "He will have to have a talk with his father."

Shinichi sighed and he nodded, "Okay, I will call him." He looked at everyone, "Why don't you all come to my place today. I'll call him in front of you all."

Everyone agreed and as planned they all went to Shinichi's place. The girls kept ignoring the boys though. Ryuu and Shinichi kept walking in silence, both having their own thoughts. Both were scared. Shinichi was scared because this was the first time he was going to have an open talk with his father. Ryuu was scared because if that said person did not agree what will he do? Emi's family was rich, so maybe he would have to be rich too to stand in front of them.

Lost in their thoughts, they reached the apartment quite sooner than expected.

Shinichi went to unlock the door but much to his surprise it was already unlocked. Confusion was evident in his face as he looked at the others, "It's unlocked."

"Did you forget to lock it by any chance?" Emi spoke.

He shook his head.

"Is that….a theif?" Yui muttered in a small voice.

Ryuu frowned as he came in front and leaned against the door. It was silent. "We will open in three." He whispered to Shinichi who nodded in agreement.

1…

2…

3…

Both boys pushed the door only to see a figure sitting on couch. For sure it was not a thief as he seemed pretty unbothered when they pushed in. Plus he had a newspaper covering his face; a thief would not make himself this comfortable. Ryuu glanced at Shinichi who was wide eyed.

"Hey, dad." Shinichi muttered.

Ryuu, wide eyed, looked at the intruder. He slowly put down the newspaper. It felt as if a shiver went down his spine as the person's emerald eyes fell on him, it was so intense that Ryuu had to look away.

Takumi looked at his watch, "Hey son" He glanced at Shinichi, "You're late."

2 years later I sat down with my laptop, writing stories. I don't know if someone is still reading this, but if there is I'm terribly sorry for nearly loosing hope on this one. I won't lie I had a massive writer's block but now after taking my time to write a new chapter- it felt so good.

Also, if you're reading at present time then you know the world is not in a good condition right now. My dear readers please stay safe. I'll make sure to complete this one soon. Sorry for the typos. Reviews and criticisms are always welcome. :)
