The Story of Us

Chapter 11:- Twisted Fate

What's meant to be will always find a way

Usui Takumi Walker was in Japan. Even the man himself could not believe it. For the past sixteen years he has avoided this country like crazy but now he had finally made up his mind. He needed to stop running and start facing reality. Part of his determination came from his son. When Takumi got to know that Shinichi was in Japan, somewhere deep in his heart, he thought maybe it's time to go back.

The country was still the same if not livelier, busy streets with hustle and bustle surrounded him. He did not feel happy though. 'Empty' should be the right word which could describe his state of mind; as too many memories were clouding his mind. That's why without wasting any time he made his way to Shinichi's apartment. He got the address and keys from Robin. Not to mention Robin got an earful from him for helping that boy settle here.

After reaching, he must say he was quite shocked. The apartment was quite okay for a normal student but not for a walker. The boy, who was brought up in middle of all luxuries, was living there for the past five months? What must he have eaten? Did he learn to cook to? Unknowingly Takumi smiled for the first time since he came to Japan, his little stubborn boy must have grown a lot in these few days.

So, he waited. He could not go to the company without seeing his son's face first. He needed to know how he was doing. What he never imagined was that Shinichi would come home with his friends- one boy, two girls including Emi.

"Hey dad…" Takumi could feel the shock in his voice but then his eyes feel on the boy beside Shinichi. His height was same as Shinichi, his back was straight. He looked like one decent young man.

He looked at his watch, "Hey son. You are late."

Shinichi looked down, unable to believe what he was seeing. How did he know that he was in Japan? How did he find his address?

"If you are thinking how I knew about here-" Takumi started reading his thoughts. Like mother, like son- his emotions always showed on his face just like Misaki. "Robin told me."

Takumi stood up from the couch he was previously sitting on, "You have guests. Come in and have a sit."

Yui bit his lip. Seeing Shinichi, she never imagined his father would be such an intense man. It felt as if an aura of authority and confidence surrounded him. So when he asked them to come in, none uttered a word. All of them went in and took a seat. He looked like he's in his early forties but he had aged gracefully. Now she knew from where Shinichi got his charming smile and mysterious eyes. Not only that, it felt like she has seen him somewhere before but couldn't remember exactly where.

"Dad, I was just going to call you." Shinichi spoke grabbing everyone's attention, "I need your help."

Takumi fixed his gaze on his son as he loosened his tie, "What help?"

Shinichi bit his lip for a while before looking up confidently, "I am sorry for not listening to you. It was my idea. Robin and Emi just listened to me. It was-"

"Come to the point."

Shinichi took a deep breath, "That old man threatened me to go back home and listen to him and I plan to go back."

Takumi nodded, "Good."

"But I don't plan to listen to him."

Takumi arched a brow at him, "Then what do you plan to do?"

"I plan to go and refuse." Shinichi looked at Emi, "Emi wants it too." The girl nodded in response.

Takumi chuckled as he shook his head. His little boy was planning to refuse the head duke. Why did this remind of himself? He also went to England to take care of his issues when he was a teen. How he messed up there and Misaki went there to save him. The head duke was so pissed. That memory put a smile on his face.

"Looks like my little boy has grown up a little." He muttered, more like to himself.

Shinichi tried to look for any answer on his father' face; just like always his face was blank. It was unfair how Shinichi could never read his father's though while his father could easily read his.

"So," Takumi continued as he ran a hand through his blond locks, "How can I help you?"

Shinichi nodded and looked at Emi who, as if on cue, spoke, "Mr Walker, please talk with my father, I'm sure he'll listen to you o-or maybe you yourself can cancel our engagement."

"Also, I want to continue my high school here." Shinichi muttered, "I like it here."

Takumi looked at the other two here, seeing how Shinichi and Emi were speaking of this matter in front of these people, they must be good friends. He could assume that it was because of these two, who were sitting and listening quietly, Shinichi and Emi wanted to stay in Japan. Now, he knew this situation. It was kind of similar to what happened to him back in the past.

"But why though?" He decided to push the kids a little bit more, "I actually thought it was a good idea seeing how you and Emi were such good friends."

Emi's eyes widened. No, this can't be…if Takumi Walker also turned his back then, in no way, she and Shinichi could refuse. She knew how powerful the adult standing in front of her was. One word from him and everything could be cancelled whereas one word could also accelerate the situation. She looked at Shinichi who was quite drown in his thoughts too. Without further ado, she spoke, "I fell in love with someone else."

For Ryuu this day was not good for his heart. First things first, the man standing in front of him was the infamous Usui Takumi Walker, the biggest business-man of the decade. Ryuu recognised him at first glance. What he could not believe was Shinichi was his son! That carefree guy was the son of this great businessman? Hard to believe. Not to mention, Ryuu wanted to take down him and he actually blurted out his dream in front of Shinichi, no wonder he looked so smug back in that classroom.

Both Shinichi and Emi seemed to choose their words very carefully as they spoke. Emi telling she loved someone else was a big move but Ryuu was not sure if he should speak in their conversation. He was feeling like an outsider.

Takumi frowned in confusion. Is she lying? "May I know who?"

Emi gulped before taking a quick glance at Ryuu. She was not sure if she should take his name or not. She knew the Walkers, taking Ryuu's name would be too risky.

But that short glance was not unnoticed by Takumi. To be quite honest this boy here sparked his curiosity. He seemed quite and observant. More importantly his eyes, those amber eyes reminded him a certain someone. He sighed. Again he was getting sad.

"What about you?" He diverted his attention to Shinichi.

"I like someone else too."

"And I suppose that someone is the pretty blond lady who is with us?"

Shinichi's mind screamed 'awkward' but still nodded.

Takumi chuckled, "What's your name?" He turned to the lady with a smile.

Yui, unsure of what to do, answered him back with a small smile too, "Yui. Igarashi Yui."

Takumi frowned. He had a bad feeling. Taking a deep breath, he continued, "Igarashi… don't tell me you're Igarashi Tora's daughter…?"

Much to his horror, Yui nodded.

Everyone was shocked when Usui Takumi Walker started laughing suddenly.

"Seriously?!" he went and ruffled his son's hair, making it messier, "No wonder you're my son. You went and fell for Tora's daughter."

Takumi composed himself, it had been so long since he had a laugh. He smirked at Shinichi, who looked very surprised at his sudden outburst, "Be prepared son. Igarashi Tora will kill you."

:::

"You're late."

This was the second time Ryuu has heard this phrase today. But he could not blow the accusation because he was actually late.

"I went to Usui's place." He answered as he faced his mother.

Misaki frowned, "For what?"

Ryuu pinched his nose. Now this was something he could not share. How can he just declare that he had just met the biggest businessman known and he's actually a great guy? So, Ryuu went with the safest option, "They are planning to back. So I went to spend some time together."

Misaki sighed but nodded anyways. Those two were good kids and she felt bad how she persuaded them to go back but it was for the better.

"It's better if you don't get too close with them."

"Huh?"

Misaki took a deep breath and spoke with a clearer voice this time, "Ryuu you have never disobeyed me. So this time listen to me again. Don't get too close. Stay away from them."

The boy frowned. Yes, he has never disobeyed his mother but his mother also never asked him to do something like his. For all he knew, she valued friendships and relationships over everything else. Deciding to voice out his curiosity, he spoke, "Why did you suddenly pushed them to go back?"

Misaki stopped for a moment, she knew this was coming. "As an adult I did what I thought was right."

"You are trying me push me away from them."

Misaki looked at her son sternly. She felt bad but she needed to do it. "I think that other boy is bad influence on you. I'm not saying you should stop being friends, help him if he needs help. But don't get too involved."

Ryuu sighed as a fond smile came on his lips. Now it felt like he was talking with his mother. No matter what Ayuzawa Misaki always taught him to help others, even if he did not like them. He chuckled as went and put her in a hug.

Misaki was rather surprised by the sudden affectionate hug. She smiled and patted his head. "That boy Shinichi reminds me of your father." Misaki felt Ryuu stiff in her arms. She pushed him to look at his frowned face before continuing, "You are the most important one in my life. If you did not come in my, I don't think I would be alive today. I know if you are a very diligent kid who helps everyone and I'm very proud of you as my son but I'm scared. I'm always scared that if something ever happens to you what will I do?" She smiled softly and patted his head, "Call it a mother's gut feeling but please stay away."

The boy, wide eyed, did not know how to respond. It was not every day when Misaki told him her worries. He knows how introverted she is, how she always took the burden alone. So, he only nodded, "Okay."

Misaki smiled but she made no effort to show the sadness in it. What she did was very selfish but she should have done it sooner.

:::

Takumi looked outside the small window that Shinichi's apartment was blessed with. Yes, he decided to spend the night there. Several things clouded his mind. The things those kids asked about- he would take care of it. That was easy but facing his past, in fact, was not that easy. He was pondering whether he should visit others too; others as in his past friends although he was not quite sure if they still considered him as friends. Afterall, for the past sixteen years he had never contacted them.

The head-duke told him that he personally had called Misaki's family to deliver the news and told Takumi that he needed not worry about anything else. But now he felt guilty, he never actually took Shinichi to his mother's house. Well, the Ayuzawa household also never called him but he kind of knew the walkers were responsible for that. He sighed.

"Can't sleep?"

Takumi turned to see Shinichi standing in their living room, his hair ruffled. He must have just woken up, "Why are you up?"

The boy shrugged as he showed a bottle of water, showing that he was thirsty. Takumi turned back to his previous position and continued to look outside of the window.

"Want to share anything?"

Takumi chuckled. He took a deep breath, "I was thinking about the past."

Shinichi scratched the back of his awkwardly but curiosity got the best of him, "Are you thinking about mom?"

Much to his surprise Takumi nodded. He waited for a moment for him to continue but Takumi did not. He was about to go back to his room only to stop on his tracks when Takumi suddenly spoke,

"You know when I was like your age, I also stayed alone. I never admitted but I was lonely. Then, I met your mother. Well..." he mused, "…not exactly met for I had met her before but I started noticing her. She was very hardworking and pure as child. Next thing I knew I had fallen for her." Takumi turned to face his son with a small smile, "I faced the same problems as you. The walkers would not let me stay with her. I am not going to lie but I wanted to run away." He chuckled at the boy's reaction. "Shocked?"

"Um…" Shinichi was not sure what to say so he only shook his head, "Then?"

Takumi took a deep breath, "Then she smacked some senses into me which made me realise I should go and face my issues. But I was not as smart as you guys so I went there without any back-up plans and got stuck." Takumi laughed, "And then guess what your mother actually went there to save me!"

Shinichi chuckled at his father's memory. It felt really nice to know some stories about his mother; much less it was his father who was sharing them. From his story, she seemed like a super-woman. If only Shinichi could meet her once!

"Do you know who helped her to go there?"

The brunette, confused, shook his head.

"Can you guess?"

He again shook his head.

"Igarashi Tora."

"WHAT?!" Shinichi's jaw dropped as he could not believe his ears, "H-he knew mom?"

"Um hum." Takumi nodded, "And he hates me because I failed to take care of her. But now-" he put his hands in his pockets, "-You, my son, has fallen for Igarashi's daughter. That's some twisted luck there."

Shinichi was too shocked to even respond properly; his throat felt drier than before. He took a sip of water of the bottle he was holding. His brain had already stopped functioning unable to take too much information at once.

"When you said you want to go back and fight..." Takumi started again, he was being quite chatty today, maybe it was the Japan air that did wonders on him, "It really reminded me of her."

Shinichi looked up at his father; his eyes felt certain sadness, maybe guilt too. One thing for sure, he loved her very much and now Shinichi could not even imagine how lonely he must have felt during the past years.

"It was not my idea actually." Shinichi shrugged, "It was actually Ryuu's mom who told me to do that."

Ryuu… Takumi frowned at that name. That Ryuu boy, who was apparently Shinichi's friend, really sparked his interest. He nodded, "Then I must say my thanks to her. She had smacked some senses to my son."

Shinichi beamed at him, "She is really nice you know. She took great care of me and Emi. You should definitely meet her once."

Takumi smiled at how his son got all excited over someone. He was so much like Misaki. "I will." He assured, "I will meet her then."

:::

Misaki had nearly forgotten it was that time of the year, when Seika high held their annual cultural festival. No wonder Ryuu looked very busy for the past few days. It had been nearly a week since she had that conversation with her son but she could not blame her son if he had failed to keep his promise. After all it was their cultural festival, classes were supposed to be united during this time!

She did know Ryuu's class was doing a butler's café. Misaki chuckled as she remembered how embarrassed he looked while trying on the clothes he was supposed to wear.

Misaki tried to keep the sad memories of Yumesaki's festival away as she took a stroll in too familiar corridors of Seika. The school was as lively as the as the old days. Classes were decorated nicely, students were calling her to visit their respective classes- Misaki visited as many classes as she could before stopping before her son's class.

There was a long queue in front of the class, containing mostly girls. She was not surprised though as there were two good looking guy serving here as butlers. She smiled and waited for her turn.

She was just about to go in when Ryuu came out to look how many people were outside. Misaki gasped at how handsome, and similar to him which she did not like to admit, her boy looked with his hair neatly brushed backwards.

Ryuu smiled at his mother sheepishly, "Don't look like this. I'm getting embarrassed here."

"Oh I was just thinking how handsome my boy is."

Misaki chuckled as Ryuu turned red at her words. He was just so easy to tease.

"He is looking really nice, I agree."

Misaki snapped her head towards the source of the voice and she was equally surprised to see Shinichi, looking equally stunning, in his attire. And Misaki wasn't sure who looked like him more- Ryuu or Shinichi..?

Noticing her discomfort, Ryuu cleared her voice, "Please wait a bit, looks like our café was a hit."

Misaki smiled and nodded before she sneaked a glance at the other boy who was wiping a table. For a walker, he sure worked hard.

Shinichi, feeling a stare, looked up to see Misaki staring at him. He could not help but smile at her, the more days passed the more she felt like a mother to him.

He walked up to where Ryuu and Misaki were standing, "I am glad you visited our class."

Misaki frowned with a small smile, "It's nothing special."

"It is!" Shinichi beamed smacking Ryuu's shoulder, who in return glared at the brunette. Shinichi continued, "I'm very excited because I asked my father to visit us too! Maybe you two can meet."

Misaki's smile faded as she slowly took in his words. Her throat suddenly went dry as her heart-beat accelerated, her hands also felt cold too. She gulped.

His father?...Takumi… was he supposed to come..?

Misaki looked at Ryuu who was looking at her with concern. Without thinking she grabbed his hand.

Is it too late to run and hide? Maybe I can still run?

"Mom?"

Ryuu's concerned voice did not reach her ear. She was busy thinking how to protect him. After thinking for a moment, which felt like an eternity, she was about to drag that son of her and run when a blob of blond hair and emerald eyes which she hated- loved- the most came into her view.

Yes, it was too late to run.

And they finally meet! I had a lot of fun writing this chapter, also I felt Takumi's presence in this story was weak so I focused more on him. Do tell me about your thoughts. It's gonna end soon.

Thank you very much for those who read and commented. It felt really good to see people are still reading this story. I also kinda have another story in my mind and cause I've nothing better to do, being stuck at home, I might publish that story too. Haha, that one will be action-based so it will be super hard for me to write though.

Anyways, do leave a review if you liked this chapter. :)

Thank's for dropping by!

Stay safe.
