Rain: As mentioned in The Crimson Eyed Drifter: Distance Between Hearts I am here to delivered my last chapter to Twilight: Future Unbound and again, that does not mean this fic is done. Captain Blues (The new namesake for this account) will be continuing this fic in my stead under this account. Again, I just want to thank everyone for sticking with me for so long. With that said, let's continue the show.
Twilight: Future Unbound
Chapter Seven
Streets of Forks
Edward Cullen
"So you and Bella broke up."
I glanced at Angela with a sad smile. Our walk had taken Angela and I to a nearby cemetery where despite its gloomy atmosphere, it felt right for the current topic of our conversation. "Yeah…I loved her, I still do in fact but she means more to me as a friend than a partner and I feel guilty that I didn't have the courage to talk about it sooner…"
"How did she take it?" Angela asked softly.
"She took it well which makes my cowardice worse honestly. I should have been more forthcoming with her instead of hiding it away," I answered. "But I know that she'll be okay."
"I'm glad. It's nice to see someone still care about someone else if even if their relationship is gone," Angela said sadly.
I frowned at this.
I knew there was something more to her words but I did not want to read her mind to find out what. Everyone deserves that privacy.
"I guess it shows how much I do care. I just want her happy, even though it won't be with me and I think I know who will make her happy," I responded.
"Like Mike?" Angela joked.
I couldn't stop my laughter.
I shouldn't have found it so funny but after seeing Isabella with Future Jasper, I doubt Bella could ever turn Jasper away from Mike of all people. It was then I heard Angela giggle from beside me and I couldn't stop myself from saying "That's the first time I heard you giggle. It's nice."
Angela blushed while I cringed.
Why did I say that so suddenly?
"I couldn't help it. That was the first time I heard you laugh since I've known you and that is nice," Angela replied bashfully.
If I was human, I would blushed myself but I couldn't help but ask "Was it truly the first time?"
"Yeah. You're always so stern and quiet at school. You look so much more relaxed out here," Angela said. "That tells me you just don't like school."
"Does anyone?" I joked with a smile.
Angela giggled again before her cellphone rang. "Sorry, hold on…" She sheepishly said before she pulled out her phone and said "Hey Mom…It's what time?! Oh gosh, I got so caught up with speaking to my friend….I'll be home soon. Love you, bye."
She hung up and I asked "I'm going to guess its way past your curfew?"
"It's almost 10:30. We've been walking and talking for an hour and a half," Angela said.
"Well, time flies when you're discussing your relationships," I said with a grin. "Come on, I'll walk you home."
"You don't have to," Angela said.
"I know but I want to," I replied.
The two of us walked out of the cemetery and back in the direction of her house, just making small talk. It was strange how easy it was to talk to Angela compared to Bella where I had to strain it from time to time.
It was different but nice.
"Well, this is me," Angela said as she stood in front of her door.
"Sure is," I replied softly. "Hey listen, thanks for talking to me tonight…I was in my head and it felt nice to talk to someone about things," I said.
"I know what you mean," Angela replied. "I should thank you too. You helped take my mind off of somethings…"
"I did?" I asked.
She nodded and replied with "Yeah…So um, I'll see you at school tomorrow?"
"Yeah…I'll be my normal, grumpy self," I replied with a wide grin.
She smiled. "Great. I'll see you then," she said as she turned and walked up her stoop to her door.
But before she went inside, I said "Hey!"
She turned around curiously.
"If you ever want to talk about what's on your mind. I'm here anytime," I offered.
"Likewise Edward," she replied with a rather dazzling smile before she walked inside.
I stood out there for a moment and I don't know why but I couldn't wipe the smile off my face as I walked back home.
Cullen Residence
Esme Cullen
"You think he's going to come in?"
I glanced at my son and offered a small smile before I looked back outside. Sitting in a standard issue police car was Charlie Swan. He sat there with a beer in his hand and he had been out there for the past ten minutes.
"I don't know," I answered with a frown. "I wonder why he's here."
While I didn't know much about the officer, I knew that the town adored him. From his rampant crusade against anyone shown to be corrupt, to his charity work and all around present demeanor, Charlie was a good and honest person but still, the way he looked out towards our home was strange.
"Where are your siblings and your father?" I asked.
"The Future Alice left to secure a hotel room for her Leah and Bree, Future Bella is with our Bella, Future Jasper went to look for Peter, Charlotte, Rosalie and Emmett and last but not least, I think Edward is still on his walk and Carlisle went to hunt" Jasper answered.
"Okay good," I told him before I saw that Charlie opened his car door and began to walk towards the house.
It was then there was a knock at the door. I walked to the door and opened it up and said "Good evening Officer Swan."
"Good evening Mrs. Cullen," Charlie replied with a nod and a smile. "Just the person I was coming to see. Along with Dr. Cullen of course. Do you mind if I come in?"
"No, not at all," I replied as I moved to the side to allow him entrance. "My husband is currently out but he should be back soon."
He gave me a nod and walked inside. "This is a very nice place. Very cozy," Charlie said as he looked around briefly and then shook Jasper's hand.
Charlie didn't answer. Instead, he looked at my son and said "Ah, Jasper. Good to see you son."
"Good to see you too Officer Swan," Jasper responded with an unsure tone.
"So, where are the other kids?" Charlie asked as he sat down on the couch. "I would have figured they would be here considering the time."
"They are currently out," I replied. "But I still fail to see why you are here so late Officer Swan. Has there been a crime which you need my husband's assistance?"
Charlie remained silent as he reached into his pocket and pulled out his badge and his gun and placed them both on the table before him. "Right now, I'm not here as Forks Police. I'm here regarding my daughter, Bella."
"Oh, did she not make it home?" I asked with concern.
"She did thankfully," Charlie replied before he looked to Jasper and said "Do you mind if I talk to your mother alone for a moment? It won't take long."
"Of course Mr. Swan," Jasper complied with a confused tone as he walked upstairs.
After Jasper left, Charlie said "He's a good kid from what Bella has told me. Pretty in tune with emotions. It must be fantastic."
"It is. Jasper is a godsend," I replied said with a small smile.
"He is. He deserves a lot of praise for what he's done," Charlie said with a smile. "It must be amazing to have a vampire that is able to remind other vampires of their emotions."
If my heart could still beat, it would have stopped at his words.
"What?" I asked with surprise.
"Bella…And Isabella told me everything," Charlie said with a small grin. "I have to say, it is very impressive that no one caught on after so long. I sure didn't."
"I see…" I said. It should have been obvious that Bella and Isabella would have told him considering his violent and untimely demise at the hands of Victoria. "What will you do then?" I questioned.
Charlie remained silent for a moment and I didn't need to have Jasper's gift to see that he was conflicted. "Bella and Isabella told me a lot of good things that occurred due to your family and a lot of bad things that came because of it. I can tell that you and your family are good people which is why I have not screamed out your existence nor why I won't do that," Charlie said.
Charlie eyes darkened slightly. "When they told me of the future, the one thing I felt was remorse that I could not protect Isabella more. Heartbreak that she had to suffer from seeing that and hate for what they went through while I was blind to the world…"
My undead heart ached at his words.
"Charlie..." I began but stopped when he raised his hand.
"Bella and Isabella mean the world to me," he told me softly. "And not being there for them when they needed me most is a mistake I can't let happen again. As a parent, I should have protected Bella from James and I should have done anything more to make it alive against Victoria for Isabella and I failed at both." He paused, as if summoning up the courage for his next words.
"I came here tonight, not to spill the beans on what I know…I came here to ask, parent to parent, to give me the gift to protect my girls from what is to come. I want to become a vampire."
Rain: And that's it for this one. I fairly different chapter with starting the Edward/Angela relationship along with the Charlie's request. The next chapter will deal with the fallout of Charlie's request but as already mentioned, Captain Blues will be handling the rest of this but he knows where I want this story to go and finish so be nice to Captain. That's all for me! I love you guys, be excellent to one another and see you again.
Mario: See you next time!
