Captain Blues: Hello gang, I am Captain Blues of the SS ProtoBreakman and as Rain mentioned in the last chapter, I am here to replace him for his Twilight Fanfics. I have never read Twilight before while my cousin did so to better understand, I read all the books, including the Life and Death gender flipped one and….
Whew…
There is a lot to unpack. But since this and The Crimson Eyed Drifter are AUs I can work with that. I also read through this fic and his other one and I pretty much get the gist of so enough Grandstanding and Hot-Dogging, Let's begin with….Twilight: Future Unbound!
Twilight: Future Unbound
Chapter Eight
[Location: La Push
POV: Leah Clearwater (F)]
"You didn't have to do this mom," I tell my mother as she holds open the door to the master bedroom. The bedroom she and my father…well now she, sleeps in.
"Nonsense," she replies with a bright smile. "You are my daughter and you have been through a lot. A lot that I never expected you to. I want you to stay in here tonight. Besides, I sleep in our guest room anyways. Have since…."
She drifts off and I immediately pick up on what she was trying to say. "Okay," I relent with a soft smile. "I'll stay here. For the night, okay?"
"That's my girl," she says as she embraces me tightly. "I'm so proud of what you grew up to become. A proud and fierce warrior. He would be proud too…" She whispers before pulling away and touching my cheeks with both hands.
I let out a shuddered breath, the emotions in my chest building. I forgot how good it was to have a mother after not having one for years…
"Thanks," I tell her softly as a familiar chill is felt behind me.
My mom smiles but then she flinches in surprise as the scent of wild peaches and frost filled my nose. I turn around to see my little Vamp and my girlfriend behind me. "My goodness!" my mother exclaims as I smile at the pair.
"Alice, Little Bit," I say as I ruffle Bree's hair before embracing my girlfriend.
"Sorry for the sudden intrusion," Alice says with brief hug to me. "But Bree wanted to come back and hang out with Seth and meet her grandmother."
"Grandma?" I hear Bree ask nervously as I turn my head to look at my mom. "W-We never met but I-I'm Bree Cullen-Clearwater…I'm your granddaughter…"
My mom was clearly confused for a moment before a look of recognition which was immediately followed by the largest smile I have ever seen on her face. "So you must be Bree. My future daughter has told me a lot about you. You are very precious looking. Just as she said."
"Mom," I groan out while Alice chuckles, still in my arms.
"Ma," Bree suddenly says as she turns to me. "She looks beautiful. Why didn't you mention that when you told me about her?"
I snort. "Well excuse me," I drawl out sarcastically. "I had some priorities you know with teaching you about life and everything."
My mother laughs at this and glances to Bree and says "Well I thank you for the compliment. Leah gave you high regards and you are definitely living up to them, my darling granddaughter."
Bree smiles.
It was the happiest I've seen her and I couldn't help but get all teary-eyed. My mother then looks to Alice and introduces herself with "And you must be Alice. I am Sue Clearwater." She holds out a hand to Alice.
Alice moves away from me and takes her hand in a gentle shake. "Alice Cullen-Clearwater," Alice replies. "It's an honor to finally meet you."
"Oh, she already took up our name," My mother notes with a wry smirk. "You told me you didn't ask her hand in marriage yet."
"I-I mean it kind of goes without saying," I reply as I scratch the back of my neck.
"Alice, Bree, Leah told me how you two saved her when she had nothing left. I know that my tribe thinks of vampires as our enemy but to me, you both are family," My mom tells them softly. "And while I doubt the council will like you two popping up in random places, I will tell them that you both are always welcomed here."
And now the water works begin…
I love you so much mom…
[Location: Cullen Residence
POV: Esme Cullen]
I am willing to admit that I am not personable as my husband.
I always told him that he was the more charismatic of the two of us and as I glance into the eyes of Bella and Isabella's father, I realize that now more than ever. I understand why he requests this because if this was any of my children, I would do the same.
But this life, it is not for the faint of heart. Charlie is a good man and as much as I adore the life I live…I will readily admit that it is a tough one as well, despite how well off we live.
But how can I tell him this? How can I balance the understanding of a parent and the risks that becoming a vampire entails?
"Charlie," I start, taking a needless breath. "You place in a difficult position."
"Did I?" He questions, curiosity brimming in his eyes. "I may be making a general statement about vampires but don't you bunch often reveal in changing mere humans like me?"
"Not at all," I reply as I take a seat beside him, my hands resting on my lap. "Most vampires are exactly like that. I know one particular that enjoys that sort of thing. However, my family have different rules. For example, we do not drink the blood of humans. We drink the blood of animals."
"That explains the amount of animal remains we've been finding all these years," Charlie replies with a faint smile, which makes me chuckle at his words.
"We also try not to change anyone into vampires unless it is absolutely necessary…" I continue. "And even then, we would have to leave the city due to the pact we share with the Quileute Tribe to not take human life in Forks."
"I see," Charlie says with a small nod.
"Charlie, you are a good man and as someone who cares about Bella and Isabella, I understand why you want to do this and as a parent, I would do the same thing that you are doing now and that is to give it all up," I tell him softly. "But being a vampire isn't something that once it happens, you have all the tools and abilities and knowledge…There is a lot that goes into it."
Charlie stares at me with understanding but there is resolution in them as well. "I get that. Isabella made that painfully clear when she told me the process of it all," Charlie says, his eyes staying locked on mine.
"I know about the difficulty control the thirst vampires get. I know the training that comes with being able to remember things or even putting on clothes is an adventure and that's not even getting to how to fight as a vampire. I know that there is a lot that goes into this and I am not making this choice on a whim, I am willing to go through anything and everything my daughters."
"So please," Charlie begins with a soft tone as he places a hand on my left forearm. "Please grant me this. Grant me the ability to protect my family…"
I stare at him, my eyes taking in the emotions I can see within them.
Focus.
Resolution.
Determination.
Courage.
Protection.
Loyalty.
Love.
This look…It reminds me of someone. Someone I can't recall….Someone I can't place…But I know those eyes remind me of this person and I feel my resolve crumbling beneath this man's gaze and it terrifies me. "I will change you," I finally acquiesce.
A smile forms on his face as he pats my arm softly. "You sure you want to make this decision on your own? Not to sound like a sexist male but you mentioned there are rules and I don't want you to get into any trouble on my behalf."
"I will speak with this to Carlisle to inform him of this but whether he approves or not, I give my word that I will take your life and change you into a vampire," I confirm softly, my gaze turning away from his happy expression.
"That is all I want. Thank you Lady Cullen," Charlie says as he stands up from the couch. "Is there a date I should look forward too?" He asks.
"Once I have a date in mind, it will be soon so we don't drag this out, I will reach out to you, alright?" I ask him.
He nods and with a shared smile, he walks out of my home and once the door is shut, I remain on the couch, my eyes closing as I let out a deep sigh. The door opens and I hear Jasper say "I had a feeling this would occur…"
I open my eyes and stare at my time displaced son and ask "I am surprised to see that Carlisle is not with you."
"We tested out the differences between vampires with human blood as their diet versus animal blood. The tests weigh in my favor," he jokes with a grin, his ruby eyes glinting in amusement, which makes me smile slightly.
"It is hard to tell which Jasper was hearing my conversation with Officer Swan," I tell him. "But I was glad it was you."
"Why thank you," he responds, his southern accent strong.
It fits him.
"But how come?" He questions curiously.
"I…Wasn't sure if it was the right call but the way he spoke. His tone, his attitude…I could tell that he meant every word but as I am not an empath, I wanted to make sure and as much as I love Jasper and Carlisle, you're the leader in regards to what is going on. You and your Coven…"
"I see…" He murmurs before he lets out a short laugh. "My coven eh? Feels weird to actually say it out loud. But you were right Mom. He meant every word. No hidden emotions, no secrets. He is doing this for Bella and Isabella's benefit."
I nod, feeling better about the situation.
"But what surprises me is that you made the choice without consulting Carlisle. Along with the emotions I felt from you," Jasper notes.
"Emotions?" I ask him, my voice coming out unsure even to my ears.
"Yeah, they were jumbled. You're normally very clear when it comes to your emotions but with him, it seemed like you were flustered emotionally," Jasper explains with his eyes narrowing in thought.
"I do not know what I felt," I respond softly. "I had some sort of a plan but the more I looked into his eyes, the more I felt myself crumble against his gaze…I've never had that happen before…"
"Not even with Carlisle?" Jasper questions, which causes me to look at him with shock.
"I have!" I exclaim but something felt off at my words.
Did I?
Yes…I must have…
My future son stares at me with a hidden meaning but before I could decipher it, he gives me an easy going grin and says "Alright, I'll leave it be for now. In the meantime, I'm going to hunt. Talk to Dad about Charlie."
I nod and after a hug and a kiss to the cheek, my future son leaves.
But as I sit here and remember the eyes of Charlie Swan, that feeling of recognition grows.
But why does my heart ache as if it were breaking?
Captain Blues: And that is the end of this chapter. So I decided to peek into Future Leah as out of everyone when recounting Twilight and this (and the other) fic, she quickly became my favorite, alongside Jasper, Seth, Emmett, Charlie and Esme surprisingly and wanted to give her some love.
And as mentioned, Esme. Now there is a storyline between Esme and Charlie. I don't know if it'll turn into a "Charlie and Esme are really mates" pairing or not but regardless, there is a history I'm brewing between the two. What is it? You'll have to see.
In the next chapter, there will be bonding between present day Jasper and Bella along with future Jasper and Bella so until then, time to set sail!
