Twilight: Future Unbound
Chapter Nine

[Location: Cullen Residence
POV: Jasper Hale (P)]

It had been one day since the life of my friends, my family, and my true mate had been turned upside. Future versions of Bella, Alice, Leah, Peter, Charlotte, and myself crash-landed in our home and told us of a grim future.

We have three years to prepare before this Astaroth is supposed to make his move, but the training for this oncoming battle will be coming soon.

It seems no matter what happens; my life will always have war in it.

"Jasper," My future self said from behind me, prompting me to turn and face him. "Penny, for your thoughts?" He asked me.

"Two, actually," I said. "One: I think one of us needs to change our names. It will be confusing if someone needs to talk to one of us and we think it's the other one."

"I was just thinking about that," My future self said as he sat beside me on the roof of the Cullen home, watching as the sun began to rise. "You remember our one conversation with Rose?" He asked. "Where if she was born a boy and I a girl?"

"Yeah. You two came up with names for one another," I said. "Jessamine for you and Royal for her."

"I miss my Rosalie. I miss the person you know now, and I miss the person she came to be before she and our Emmett perished. In this world, you are Jasper, and I will not take that name over. In tribute to my Rosalie, Royal will be my name," he said softly.

"Royal Whitlock," I said softly. "Has a nice ring to it."

The newly christened Royal chuckled. "Yeah….What was the second thing on your mind?" he asked.

I frowned and gazed at the sun. "It seems no matter what happens, blood is always on our hands," I told him. "We're continually battling in some war. Whether it was the blasted confederacy, Maria, the incident in Nevada-"

"We don't talk about the Vegas war, remember?" Royal interrupted with a chuckle.

I shot him a smirk before frowning again. "And now our future is a neverending war filled with death and tragedy. When will it end? When will we find peace?" I finished.

Royal stared at me for a moment before he sighed, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a cigar and a lighter. "You're smoking again?" I asked.

"Old habits die hard. You know that," Royal said as he reached into his pocket and pulled out another cigar for me.

"I sure do," I replied with a smirk as I took the cigar.

Royal then lit up the end of my smoke before his own.

We both took in the smoke and then blew it out, staring out at the rising sun. "That's the life of a vampire. A lifetime of blood, war, pain, and tragedy, with feelings of love, happiness, and peace sprinkled in," Royal said with a small sigh.

"We've lived through hell several times over. Our first circle of hell was as a naïve soldier fighting for the wrong side until we became disillusioned with it. Our second circle of hell was as an enslaved soldier to Maria, and finally, our eternal circle of hell that was created by our self-hatred of who we are and where we came from," Royal said.

I shut my eyes.

"Now look around us," Royal told me. "We have a coven that loves us, a beautiful mate in Isabella and Bella, respectively, a wonderful best friend in Leah, and after so long, a beautiful sunrise. For all the hell we've been through, can you say that it wasn't worth it, for this?"

I took in his words and began to nod slowly. "For these moments of bliss, We went through hell for it, and I am willing to go through hell for another moment. Aren't you?" Royal asked me.

I chuckled. "Nothing like a little self-therapy," I said as I stood up. "Thanks, Royal."

"Anytime. Sometimes you need to sit down with yourself and work it out," Royal said with a wink. "So, speaking of mates…."

I gave him a wide smirk. "Where do you think I'm going now?" I asked. "That little bunny needs to know the hot mess she is entangling herself with."

Royal guffawed at this. "Good luck, Jasper," Royal said with a raise of his cigar. "Trust me when I say you're in for a treat with her."

I smiled then leaped down from the roof and onto the ground.

[Location: Cullen Residence
POV: Peter Whitlock (F)]

"Royal, eh? Maybe Char and I should change our names too," I muttered as I watched Jasper run-off, no doubt to his lovely mate.

"Char, quick question for you, darling," I said as I turned to her. My beautiful mate sat on the porch beside me, her hair a mess and her clothes ripped from our sparring with Emmett and Rosalie.

God, I could just take her right now.

Charlotte gave me a flirty smile, possibly due to my ravenous expression, pointed directly at her, and said, "Oh no, Captain Whitlock. Not while we're around nosy vampires."

"Hey," I said with mock offense. "I'm planning on dragging you down into the forest away from prying eyes to have my filthy way with you."

Charlotte laughed.

"But I was thinking. Major just changed his name to Royal due to not wanting to overshadow Major J. You think we should do the same?" I asked.

"I was thinking about that too. I was thinking something like…Petra," she said. "After you."

Oh, I love this woman.

"I was thinking something like Charlot, after you," I told her.

It was then I received a call on my phone. "Hold on, love," I said to her before I answered the phone. "Hello, Hello."

"Ahoy-hoy, you fine ass piece of meat," Past Peter said.

"Well, well. Who is this motherfucker with the sexy ass voice?" I asked.

"The same sexy motherfucker who is speaking to a ten on the heartthrob scale," He replied cheekily.

"My vapors," I said as I waved a hand to my face.

"You both are idiots," Charlotte said with a grin.

"Oh, you know you love us," both my past self and I said in unison.

"Unfortunately," Past Charlotte said.

"We just landed in the states. We'll be there later today. Also, Charlot? That's a sexy name fit for a sexy man," Peter said.

"And Petra sounds beautiful. I approve," Charlotte said.

"Thank you, Charlotte. Boy, that is weird," my newly named Petra said.

"This whole thing is weird, but we'll make due," Charlotte replied. "But Charlot, why that and not Charlie?"

"Well, since we'll have a Charlie in our ranks, no sense in having two Charlies, right?" I asked. "Plus, Charlot rhymes with Harlot, and we both know Peter, and I fit the description of that word."

"Why do you think I'm not arguing it?" Peter replied. "Besides, don't go out in that forest yet., Not without Char and I. We're about to make our fantasy come true."

Both Peter and I let out a perverted laugh.

And if my dear Petra could blush, she would.

"Well, you two sex gods, hurry your asses up. We got some experiments to go through. And some training too, I guess."

"Consider it done, see you hot ass vamps in a few hours. Ciao!"

"Later!" Charlotte said.

"Goodbye!" Petra said.

"Safe travels," I said before hanging up the phone. "I love them already. Now come on, might as well let everyone know our new names."

[Location: Swan Residence
POV: Bella Swan]

"Dad, everything alright?" I asked as Charlie sat on the couch quietly.

He did not answer.

Isabella and I exchanged a look.

Ever since he came back home last night, he had been quiet. It was as if he was lost in deep thought. I did not blame him. We threw a lot at him last night, and it must have now set in that this was his life now.

"I'm tempted to put him in my shield and drop him in water to snap him out of it," Isabella said as she crossed her arms.

"Let's give him some time," I told her. "We did turn his world upside down."

"That's true," Isabella said before her head perked up. "Jasper is here. Your Jasper, not mine."

"My Jasper?" I asked with a blush.

She smirked. "Yes, your mate Jasper. Who you did not speak to at all since last night," Isabella said, who reminded me.

My blush deepened at her words.

"Would it be mean to say that I did forget about that little tidbit of information?" I asked sheepishly.

A lot did happen last night, and throughout all the craziness, Jasper being my mate seemed the tamest of it all, which says a lot considering the grand scope of it all.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, which prompted both Isabella and me to glance at it. "Must be him," Isabella said before she walked to the door and opened it to reveal my mate.

God, sweet dreams are made of him.

I blushed and placed my hands on my cheeks.

Why was he so damn handsome?

"Hey, Jasper. I'm surprised my Jasper did not come along," Isabella said.

"Royal," Jasper said, which made both Isabella and I tilt our heads. "Oh, sorry. Royal is your mate, Isabella. He renamed himself after Rosalie in her honor."

What?

Isabella let out a soft laugh and said, "That big-hearted cowboy, I better go tend to him then." Isabella looked back at me and said, "You have company Bella," she then looked to Charlie and said, "Dad, I'm heading out. Please snap out of zombie mode before I come back."

With no response from Charlie, Isabella frowned and said to Jasper and me, "See you two later."

We both nodded, and after another look at Charlie, she left.

"W-Well," I began with a stammer. "Come on, Jasper," I told him as a motioned for him to follow up the stairs.

"What about your father?" Jasper asked.

"He's been weird since he came back last night," I told him.

"Weird….Esme was the same when I passed her earlier to sit on the roof," Jasper said.

It was then I saw Charlie's head move just a bit.

He moved when Jasper said Esme's name.

Weird.

"Dad, I'm taking Jasper to my room. No worries, doors will be open," I said before I walked over to Jasper, took his wrist, and dragged him up the stairs.

Once we got to my room, he looked around and said, "This is a lot pinker than I expected."

I rolled my eyes but felt humor flowing from him, which told me he was joking. "Hey, I may tend to like blue, but maybe I have a soft spot for pink," I said with a smile before I sat on my bed. "So, what brings you around, Mr. Empath?"

"Well," Jasper began as he sat across from me on my bed. "I figured since we are mates, you would want to know a little bit more about the hot mess that is Jasper Hale."

I snorted.

"First off, you, a hot mess? You look like Achilles Aka, beautiful," I told him with an amused expression.

He snorted.

"Second off, Why would you think that about yourself?" I asked him.

Jasper sighed.

"I didn't have quite the same upbringing as my adopted siblings," Jasper said.

That sounded foreboding.

"Well, tall, sparkly and handsome, I'm all ears," I told him with a smile.

"Sparkly?" he asked.

"What? I couldn't say dark because you're not wearing all black," I retorted.

He grinned.

It was cute.

"Besides, I wanted to know more about you since you saved my life in Phoenix," I admitted to him with a blush. "You're so distant with everyone. I admittedly thought you hated me until you told me that I was worth it."

I paused.

"I never told you how much that meant to me, did I?" I asked him.

He shook his head, a bashful look on his face which was adorable on him.

Summoning up my courage, I reached over and grabbed his hand and said, "I don't have a lot of self-confidence. I second guess myself a lot, and I tend to put others above myself to the point where I tend to sacrifice myself a lot. I know that these are horrible traits to have, and it's gotten me into a hell of a lot of trouble."

We both chuckled at this.

"But on that night, these traits were ramped up to the extreme, and I was panicked. I felt so pathetic, weak, and worthless. But with those few words, you made me feel like I was important. And the fact that you got so angry and slaughtered James without help from Emmett and Edward showed me that you didn't just say that to cheer me up. You fought and killed for me because you thought I was worth it."

I gazed at his face, and with the last ounce of my courage, I said, "Jasper, I cannot thank you enough for making me feel worth something," I finished.

His gaze was so soft that my face began to burn up, which made me look down at the bed to hide from it.

His look alone made me feel like I was the center of his universe. I felt his hand beneath my chin, and slowly, he lifted my head until I was looking at his eyes.

"Bella. You never have to thank me for speaking the truth to you. You are worth it. You were worth it before you even met us, you were worth it that night, and for as long as you live, you will always be worth it in my eyes," Jasper told me.

"Jasper," I whispered, unable to stop my eyes from tearing up before I smiled, allow the tears to fall.

"Thank you."

Captain Blues: And that is the end of this chapter. The next chapter will be all about Jasper's history lesson with Bella, so until then, time to set sail.
