These next two are so short, but I couldn't get them out of my head.

Something is beeping loudly. Cindy opens her eyes to see murky darkness. She's also painfully aware that her head is resting awkwardly on something hard. She remembers making rapid calculations as Jimmy watched a screen in deep concentration. They must have fallen asleep in the lab. She sighs as she raises her head, working the kinks out of her neck with her fingertips.

She spots the little flashing light on the timer placed near the group of beakers a few feet from her. She grabs her phone, which thankfully still has a bit of charge, and she points at the floor, so it lights her way. After reaching her destination, she turns off the timer. She notes the liquid's color inside the beakers on the glowing pad of paper, which was Neutron's invention.

Her eyes are beginning to adjust now. She sees Jimmy's sleeping form hunched over his computer keyboard, and the VOX2 screen gives his face an eerie blue glow. He would be sore tomorrow, but she knows he will tell her it was worth it because that's how dedicated he was. He worked himself to the point where he couldn't see straight, or until he fell asleep, too tired to continue. As someone who was similarly driven, she admired his passion. Science was a love that went deep into his marrow. It was a love that echoed inside her as well, though she was unable to indulge it as often as he could. Thus she looked forward to the rare occasions when she could join him down here. She loved the feeling of working side by side with him. Seeing the results of his brain and hers together was exhilarating and euphoric.

Once she is sure there are no obstacles in her path, she tiptoes over to the computer. She has already decided she wouldn't wake him. The poor man needed all the sleep he could get. Thankfully, he was a heavy sleeper, and she could at least make him a bit more comfortable. She pulls off her lab coat, drapes it over his shoulders, and then she brushes the hair out of his eyes. Goddard, who sleeps at Jimmy's feet, quietly changes position but doesn't wake.

She goes over to the couch in the corner of the lab. It's quite comfortable, for what it is at least. She pulls up a blanket and wraps herself in it. She smiles when she realizes it's the one she got for him for his 30th birthday with the familiar atom design on it.

She falls back asleep to the familiar lullaby of machines whirring and clicking.
