Here we are again? What? DBDA takes a lot of my time ok. That story has over 20000 reads and I get like 3000 reads every month. But I should take a small break and focus on my other babies here now.
Boss Teal - One word! Got it! Glomgold is such a complicated guy.
Jp - I had to throw in a tease man. XD. And that's what I'm going with Louie. Like, would he still be the greedy boy he is now if he was born into money? Louie is greedy because he grew up poor with Donald and once he moved in with Scrooge, he had it all. Here he already has it all and it's become a norm to him. To have everything but at a horrible cost.
onepiecefan - Thank you, sorry for the wait. And can you guess who'll be the first? Your English is fine, don't worry.
Here we go!
"Mami! Papi!" Huey was running down the stairs with a heavy bag on his back. He ran to the kitchen looking for his parents but they weren't there, "Where are they?"
Huey scanned the place for a while, his eye's landing on the lighter on the counter. He rushed towards it and put it in his pocket. From his backpack, he took out a list and made a check mark.
"Lighter, tent, sleeping bag….. I'm set for my trip." Huey chimed and put it back.
"Huey?" He heard Fenton at the door of the kitchen.
"Hola papi," Huey rushed to his father with eye's gleaming in happiness, "Did you or mami sign the permission slip?"
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about mojó," Fenton was about to explain while he took out a paper.
"Explain in the bus stop. I need to get to the Woodchucks campsite to help set up for the trip tomorrow," Huey was about to rush past Fenton but the man held onto his son's hand.
"Your mom and I aren't sure if we want you leaving on this Woodchuck trip," right when Fenton said this, Hueys smile dropped like a rock.
"What? Why?" He asked.
Fenton scanned the paper and pointed at a line, "We were looking at the places you'll be visiting and then we saw this…."
Huey glanced over Fentons shoulder and saw where he was pointing at. Cape Suzette, St Canard, and Duckburg.
"Oh yeah, our troop leader says we'll only be in the safe spots when we visit," Huey explained.
"Safe spot meaning?" Fenton wanted clarification.
"The water," Huey said confidently, "They hired a sailor from Cape Suzette to give us a tour around the three kingdoms. They have an agreement that no one will set foot on the kingdom, only watch from a distance."
"I guess that's better," Fenton thought out loud.
"You didn't think they would let us in the kingdoms did you," Huey gave his father a comforting hug, "Junior Woodchuck Guidebook 108, plan ahead and stay safe. We'll only be passing by the kingdoms to learn more about their history. Besides, it is where you and mami lived before moving to South America. That reminds me!"
Huey grabbed another paper from his backpack and handed it to Fenton. The man looked over it and read it out loud.
"Dear Mr and Mrs Cabrera, we would love to have you two travel with us on our Woodchuck field trip. As you may know by now, we'll be visiting St Canard and Duckburg, both places you two use to live in. We appreciate it if you could give us a history lesson or at least tell us about your experience…." Fenton looked away from the paper and thought about this, "Hmm, an opportunity to educate young minds about the history of our childhood home? I'll talk to Gandra about it. In the meantime here."
Fenton signed Hueys permission slip and gave it to him. Huey jumped up in excitement and gave his father a bone crushing hug.
"Thank you! You are the best father I could ever have!" Huey shoved the paper in his backpack and ran out the door, "See you after the Woodchucks!"
"Have fun," Fenton happily waved. Hueys words echoed in his mind for a bit. You are the best father I could ever have! He felt a little heavy in the heart. Would he still feel the same after they told him?
Duckburg
"Nope," Lena was in her room with her door locked.
"Come on Lena, Doofus is at the perfect age. 18! Your what? 15?" Magica knocked in the other side of the door.
"19! I'm 19!" Lena snapped at her aunt. She hated when her aunt didn't pay attention to her. That was why she was putting on a black coat over the dress Magica forced on her. She grabbed some rope and some cash before opening the window to her room. "I'm not going down stairs to meet him."
"Lena De Spell! Open this door now young lady! You'll go down there and meet the boy."
Lena used her hand to mock the way her aunt talked. She was too busy escaping to care about meeting a prince. Lena tied the rope to the head of her bed and threw it out the window.
"You have three seconds to open this door Lena," Magica demanded.
"Oh yeah? Or else what?" Lena threw in one more remark before hopping out the window.
"Don't you give me that sass, I've done everything for you. I gave you a kingdom, a crown, and an opportunity to conquer your own kingdom if you just get down here and do the marriage arrangements," Magica waited for Lena to respond again or open the door, but nothing, "I'm not playing around Lena, one….. two….."
"Your majesty?" Duckworth appeared behind her. Magica almost yelped from being startled.
"Duckworth? Is there a problem?" Magica asked a little more polity. She hated to let anyone see her behave unprofessionally.
"I'm afraid there is. Mr and Mrs Drake are having a little trouble controlling their son. You see, he's a little mad about no more honey in the honey pot," He informed her.
"Right, thank you for informing me Duckworth," Magica walked past him and headed to the dining room. Duckworth kept his nose and head up high. When he heard the witches footsteps fade away, he teleported into Lena's room and looked down the window. Lena was down at the ground smiling at him. She mouths the words thank you to him to which he salutes to. Lena ran off in a blink of an eye.
She had to duck under some trees and behind some rocks in order for the shadows to not see her. They may follow her orders but they know she wasn't supposed to leave the castle. But she had to get out of this place now, she couldn't stand her aunt controlling her life like this anymore. She climbed the wall and the second she jumped to the otherside, she was free.
At the marketplace, Louie and Goldie were walking around, the usual routine. Louie kept an eye out for any items to steal, Goldie did the same while scamming others, same old same old. They walked by what looked like a street show. People were tossing in their coins at the hat that was placed.
"Excuse me," Goldie tapped a man on the shoulder. The man looked rather wealthy, nicely dressed, a top hat and a bag of coins on his belt, "May you please tell me how we can get to the fish stand in this market?"
"Yes ma'am," The man turned around and pointed at a distance. Louie got in position and stood next to the man. His hand sneaking it's way to the bag on his belt, "... then one last right and you are there."
The man turned around to look at Goldie, who was still smiling politely. Louie took a hold of the bag and walked deeper in the crowd. Goldie caught sight of Louie at the corner of her eye and smiled even wider.
"Thank you kind sir," Goldie turned around and found her son outside of the crowd. She tossed her arm around him and glanced at the bag, "How much are we working with here."
"Around 400 gold coins," Louie counted the coins just by eyeballing it. He was around money his whole life that he can estimate how much he has in his hands. Goldie took a hold of the bag and took a look inside.
Louie on the other hand couldn't care less how much he just stole. Money was plentiful in his eyes. He had money spilling from his hands when he was home. Heck, his vase of flowers has coins instead of water and gold carved roses instead of real ones. And they stole that from an auction. But hey, it was an eat or be eaten situation in Duckburg. He had to steal and cheat in order to keep the lifestyle he had. He had to step on those beneath him if he wanted to stand tall. But the feeling of emptiness, the feeling that something was missing just wouldn't go away.
If that wasn't annoying enough, that humming. It won't leave his ears. Louie hit the side of his head trying to get that song out of his head.
Goldie handed him the bag of gold coins, breaking his thoughts, "Can you get us some fish?"
"Sure," Louie took the bag and mumbled. Goldie took notice of his actions so when he tried to take the bag away, she didn't let go.
"Something on your mind?" She asked. Louie simply shrugged. Goldie gave him a knowing look, refusing to let go until she got a proper answer.
"I just….. feel like we're in a repetitive loop. You know, steal, spend, steal some more, spend again…."
"A loop that keeps us alive sharpie," Goldie reminded him, "You know why we do what we do."
"To keep ourselves alive and from the streets. I know mom," Louie had heard this about 1000 times now.
"Meet me at the mansion when you get the fish, alright?" Goldie reminded him. Louie nodded and took the bag.
At the other side of town, Lena was walking around with a black cape over her to disguise herself. She was fascinated to see the kingdom for the first time ever. It seemed a bit duller than the castle but still beautiful in it's own way.
"Clothes, dresses, they're designers," A lady showed off her designs to the passing girl. Lena tried to shake her head no. She was already sick of so many dresses. Magica pushed at least 3 on her a day.
"No thank you," Lena politely declined the offer.
"Gems, pretty necklaces for a pretty lady like yourself," A man showed off his display of jewelry. Lena smiled and shook her head no. She already had all the jewelry she could ever want.
"FISH HERE!" A man was tossing some fish towards a fisher woman to put in an ice box. Some of the fish dashed in front of Lena making her jump from fright. She fell back in surprise making her hood fall off and letting her short hair reveal itself. " GET SOME FRESH DELICIOUS FISHES!"
They continued throwing the fish. Lena got up and tried to duck under the fishes. She ran under as fast as she could and rammed into someone else. She bounced back in the ground,
"You ok," Lena heard someone apologize. She looked up to see a light haired boy in a green hoodie. He kneeled down and offered a hand to help her up.
"Yea, sorry about that," Lena took his hand and stood up," Thanks."
Louie kept his gaze at the girl as she walked away and placed her hood back over her head.
"Wow," Louie whispered in amazement. He was mesmerized by the girl's beauty. Her light blond hair with pink tips resting over her face, dark eyes and pale skin. She was a sight for sore eyes.
"Come one! Come all!" A man announced like a ring man. He waved people over to him, one of them being Lena. From a distance, Louie leaned against a lamp post and watched. The man pulled in a table with a sheet over it. Lumps and bumps on it indicating there were items under it. He pulled it away to reveal multiple items.
"Items from the castle before it was taken over by the shadow witch!" The man said earning himself a long oh and ah from the crowd. Lena rolled her eyes at this. Did this man really have things from the castle? "Vases! Mirrors! Clothing even, take your pick for a handsome price."
"Handsome price huh?" Louie thought out loud. He walked up to the table and scanned the items closely. He held onto a gold ring and examined the metal.
"Take a good look! You'll see that everything I have to offer is…."
"Fake," Louie finished that sentence for the man.
"What?" The man's tone dropped like a stone in water.
"Fake, f, a, k, e, fake," Louie spelled it out for him. He took out a scratch paper from his bag and scratched the gold ring across it, leaving a brownish line, "Gold leaves a yellow streak, not a brown one. You clearly just found some fools gold and shaped it into a ring. Who says you didn't do the same to the other items here?"
This statement caused a majority of the crowd to glare at the man and leave.
"Wait, wait, I assure you, what does a kid know about valuables," The man tried to get the audience back.
"Llewellyn O Gilt is the name. Son of Goldie O'Gilt. It's the family business to know my valuables," Louie smirked, "If you're going to make a scam, at least make one that's fool proof."
The crowd was already half gone by now but the man wasn't giving up. He stumbled in a crate before taking something out, "You people want real. Here is something real."
He held up a glass case that held a small dime inside of it. Louie chuckled at the sight, "Did you really bring up a dime?"
"Not any dime. King Scrooges number one dime!" The man announced. This really brought back a lot of people's attention. Especially Lenas. The princess eyed the dime for a good while, trying to see if this was a scam.
"Oh come on," Louie rolled his eyes, "You can't be serious. How do we know that's really the old king's number…"
"I'll give you one bronze coin for it!" A lady called out.
"I'll give you 5 bronze coins!" A man followed the bidding to Louie's surprise.
"5 bronze coins, I got 5 bronze coins, do I hear 8 bronze coins?" The salesman was clearly happy about this.
"10 bronze coins!" A man held up his coin bag in the air.
"5 silver coins!" A lady bid even higher.
"10 silver coins!" A man shouted.
Louie couldn't believe his eye's, people are willing to bet silver coins for a stupid dime.
"4 gold coins!" Louie nearly smacked himself when he heard a man bid gold coins now. How naive were these people?
"20 platinum coins!" The voices of bidding people came to a screeching halt. People gasped at the high bid while Louie couldn't believe his ears. He looked up to see Lena holding up 20 platinum coins in the palm of her hand, for everyone to see.
The salesman was speechless at this. For a good moment he gawked at the coins before snapping out of his shock, "Sold!"
People clapped and cheered as Lena walked up to the man and gave him the coins in exchange for the dime. Lena looked down at the coin, her eye's full of hope. Louie saw the gleam in her eye's and felt a sting of pity for her. His eyes soon caught sight of something else. A little kid walking by Lenas coin bag. Louie was quick to react and hurried towards the kid.
"I don't think this belongs to you," Louie told the kid as he walked by him. Louie grabbed the money bag the kid had in his pocket.
"Hey, give it back," the kid grabbed the money bag and pulled back. Louie didn't pull back but held onto the bag tightly. Lena noticed the scene along with other bystanders. She felt her pockets and realized that the kid had in fact stolen her money.
"Didn't your parents ever tell you to not steal?" Louie tugged onto the bag hard enough to pull it out of the kids hands.
"You're the one to talk O Gilt," A man shoved Louie to the side harshly. Louie assumed this was the kids dad, "You know how to do nothing but scam people of their money."
The dad gave Louie one last shove to make him fall on the dirt. Louie just shook it off and watched as the dad took his son away.
"You ok?" Louie heard Lena ask him.
"No thanks to that guy," Louie glared over at the dad before he disappeared in the crowd. He handed the money bag to Lena who happily smiled.
"Thank you. You have no idea how much I need this money," Lena gripped on the bag tightly.
"You need it that badly yet you spent 20 platinum coins in a dime?" Louie stated, with a bit of teasing.
"I….. Have my reasons," Lena looked at the dime again.
"I get it," Louie shrugged before putting his hand out, "The names Louie, Louie O Gilt."
Lena smiled and shook his hand, "I'm Leeeeeee…."
Lena paused for a moment, stretching out her name. Louie looked at her weird while Lena tried to look for another name.
"... Leeeeeeanne… Leanne," Lena cursed herself for sounding so strange.
"Leanna huh?" Louie arched his brow and gave her a strange look.
"Yeah, it's a…. yeah Leanna," Lena nervously laughed. Louie simply shrugged it off but took a note of her behaviour.
"So, was that dime worth the money?" He asked.
Lena looked at the dime again and took it out of its case. She looked at the dime and studied it's every feature. It looked normal, a dog face on one side and a design on the other. Lena rolled her eyes and tossed the dime aside. Louie was taken back by her actions, she just threw a dime aside like that?
"Worthless," Lena mumbled and kicked some dirt at it.
"How do you know?" Louie asked her.
"I know about the castle a lot more than you think. That was not Scrooge's number one dime," Lena spat out. She set a hand over Louie's shoulder and gave him another smile, "Thanks again, I don't know what I would do if someone took my money."
She walked by him and began to leave but not before waving goodbye to him, "Hope to see you around."
"See ya around!" Louie waved back.
The next day, Huey was fast asleep in his bed. He had everything he needed for his trip. His clothes, his woodchuck gear and snacks. If only they were all packed already.
"Huey? Are you ready?" Gandra called from down stairs. Huey stirred around in his bed, her words barely audible to him.
"Huey! Escuchaste a tu madre?" Fenton called to him as well.
"Wh…. wha…." Huey was trying to get out of bed but flopped back down, his face buried in his pillow.
"Hermanito!" Rosa slammed the door open making a loud sound. It was enough to shake Huey out of bed and slam against the floor.
"Rosa!" Huey glared at her but his sister was laughing too hard. Huey rolled his eyes and got up, "You're not supposed to slam my door open."
"You slam open my door all the time," Rosa shut the door close and looked around Hueys room.
"No I don't," Huey tried to argue back but his voice crack was enough to say he was fibbing. Rosa raised a brow at him with a smirk on her lips. Huey sighed in defeat before playfully shoving her aside, "Just go pack your things before mami y papi get mad at you."
"I have my things packed. Just wait till mami y papi see you haven't even packed your things," Rosa teased. She scanned the room for a good while before seeing something on Hueys desk. Noticing it was a journal, she picked it up and opened it to the middle page. Huey swiped it out of her hands and threw it into his luggage.
"I don't go through your journal do I?" Huey began to pack while his sister helped.
"Song book. And I have nothing to hide unlike you," Rosa grabbed Hueys Woodchuck Uniform and tossed it over his head.
Huey snatched it off his head and folded it neatly like it's supposed to be. For the short time he was blinded by his uniform, Rosa swiped the journal from the luggage. Before she could even land on a page, Huey grabbed his sister from behind and lifted her off the floor.
"Give it back," Huey shook his sister around. He was partly laughing but partly seroise as well.
"Just one page," Rosa laughed at Hueys annoyance. Soon Huey spun her around hard enough to make the journal fall out of her hand.
Rosa slipped out of her brother's arms and aimed for the journal. Huey again wrapped his arms around her but this time carried her over his shoulder.
"Oh come on," she struggled in his grip, "What do you have to hide? Might it be about a certain girl?"
"Just get out of my room," Huey laughed at his sisters teasing and put her down outside his door. He closed the door and began to pack.
"Awe! You and Violet are having your 2 year anniversary this week?" Rosa said excitedly and teased him. Huey looked back at the door completely confused at how she knew this.
He opened the door to reveal his sister had a page of his journal in her hands. Huey blushed when he realized she ripped it out of his journal during the rough housing. He lunged forward and tried to grab the page, "Give it back!"
"I don't think so," Rosa laughed as she jumped back and ran off.
"Rosa this is not funny!" Huey chased after her.
He followed her all the way to her room where she tried to close the door but Huey was fast enough to push it open.
"And you're writing a poem? So sweet," Rosa tried to read further on the page.
"Rosa!" Huey finally tackled her against the wall and grabbed his page.
"Does she know yet?" Rosa laughed even when her annoyed brother had her against the wall. Huey just rolled his eyes and let her down.
"No she doesn't know yet and I want to keep it that way, got it?" Huey told her firmly. Rosa simply crossed her arms and raised a brow. Knowing what she wanted, Huey glared at her and said, "I will not give you my dessert for a week to keep it a secret."
"Oh really? I guess I can always recite the poem to Violet when I see her today…."
"You did not memorise the poem that fast," Huey challenged her. Rosa smirked and began to open her mouth.
"Roses are red, Violets are blue. But no flower compares to the beauty that's you….." Huey smacked his hand over her mouth and she laughed under it.
"Fine, you can have my flan for a week," Huey caved in. Rosa laughed again as she moved his hand away.
"I'm teasing Huey. How much flan do you think I can eat?" Rosa moved Huey away from her and opened her closet door "Besides, I want something else."
"Something else?" Huey asked, a little suspicious.
"I need you to listen to the song I wrote for today's Woodchucks trip. They're having a music contest tonight and I entered," Rosa picked up her guitar and shut the closet door, "That's why I needed you in my room right now."
"Why didn't you just tell me instead of making me chase you here?" Huey asked as he took a seat on Rosa's bed.
"There's no fun in asking," Rosa shrugged and took out her necklace from under her shirt. She slowly began to play a song while Huey listened.
He had to admit, Rosa was a lot like her mother, in personality and looks. She had her mother's dark, short hair and eye shape. The only thing that separated her from her mother was that her hair was wavy, her skin was a lighter tone and she gained her father's dark eyes. Her personality was also a mix of their parent's. She was a troublemaker like her mother but also had a sweet side she gained from their father.
"Here with me, here with you,
We stick together through and through,
No matter where I go,
You run with me like so…."
Rosa sang her song in a cheery and slow tune. The type of song you hear a parent sing to their kids.
"And if trouble comes my way,
I know my bro will save the day,
No matter where I'll be,
You always follow me,
Life is strange and all so vast,
I call your name,
And you come fast,
Face each new sun,
With eye's clear and true,
Here with me,
Here with you,
Hermano,"
Huey couldn't help but give a big smile to her short song. When she finished playing her song, she shyly looked up at her brother with a smile, anticipating his opinion. Huey sighed in happiness and thought of the right words.
"Your guitar was a little out of tune," Huey teased, gaining himself a pillow thrown to his face.
At the campsite, the woodchuckers had finally made it to their destination. Everyone set up camp at an area that was deemed as safe. An area that was just half a mile away from the wall around Duckburg.
"So, Hubert?" Violet was helping her boyfriend set up his tent, "I'm actually quite surprised your parents would come on this trip."
"Why? They didn't want to let me leave without them," Huey asked.
"I would've thought they suffered some ptsd. You know, experiencing the whole death of the king and escaping the witch and shadows. It's not something you say you're happy to experience." Violet explained.
"Well, my parents say they're happy to help out. Just as long as no one enters any of the three kingdoms," Huey explained, "This should be exciting. We're going to be visiting three kingdoms with a tragic past. Or, passing by them."
"It'll be a very educational experience, I'll say that much. I always wanted to know more about the Mcduck family. The family members, how the king became the richest man on earth….. " as Violet talked, Huey couldn't help but hear another voice singing to him.
"Not again," Huey mumbled. That humming, where was it coming from? It sounded a lot louder than usual. He would hear it almost every night but it was usally faint enough to ignore it. Now it sounded like it was at a close distance.
"Hermanito!" Rosa grabbed Hueys shoulders and startled her brother.
"Rosa! You have to stop scarring me," Huey held onto his heart. He listened to his surroundings again and heard that the humming was gone. Thank goodness.
"The music competition is coming up, you have your good luck charm your Tío Panchito gave you?" Violet asked her.
"Right here," Rosa took the necklace out from under her shirt, "Alma, mami y papi should be at the benches by now. You two should get going if you want to get good seats."
As Rosa and Violet spoke, Huey heard some whispering behind them. Whispering followed by some giggling. He looked behind him to see a group of scouts by the river, laughing and stealing glances at them. Huey tried to listen on what they were saying but they were too far to hear.
"You guys have a problem?" Rosa broke Hueys thoughts. She must've noticed them too. Huey followed his sister as she walked up to the scouts that were clearly talking about them.
"Pardon?" One of the scouts looked away from the group and faced the girl.
"You guys have a problem with us?" Rosa repeated.
"What's it to you?" The scout scoffed.
"Rosa, leave them alone. You have the music competition to go to." Huey tried to tell her.
"You think a girl who believes in good luck charms would win anything?" The scout giggled.
"Hey, it was a gift from Tío Panchito," Huey glared at them before pulling his sister away.
"Tio Panchito? You have a Spanish accent or something?" The scout pointed out. Huey froze in his tracks and looked back at them.
"Not Spanish exactly. Mí Papi comes from Puerto Rico so if I had an accent, it would be Puerto Rican. Unless you're talking about my mother's side, then it would be an Indian or Pakistani….." Huey tried to explain.
"Blah blah blah, do you always talk this much? Just listen to yourself. You say your papi is Puerto Rican? And what, your mami is what? Indian, Pakistani? What even is Pakistani?" The scout started to have a ruder tone but Huey didn't let it bother him.
"Pakistani is a republic in South Asia. Mi mami told me so much of that place. She says I'm a descendent of a…."
"No way," the scout interrupted Huey. He began to laugh confusing the boy, "You actually believe you're related to a colored family? That's priceless. And who is she your cousin?" The scout referred to Violet who looked more angered than confused like Huey.
"No, she's my girlfriend." Huey corrected causing another laugh from the scout.
"Do you have any idea how much you stand out standing next to them? Your sister here is a mix of latin, and pastrami…"
"Pakistani," Rosa corrected him with a cold glare.
"Whatever, and your girlfriend is what? African? Black?"
"Afro latin," Violet rolled her eyes at the boys guesses.
"These girls look like they should be your maids instead of whatever they are to you," that was the last straw. Huey was just about to tackle the scout but his sister beat him to it.
"You little son of a….." Rosas colorful language was drowned out by the scout screaming in pain.
The two wrestled around the ground until they slid down a muddy slope and into the river. Everyone looked down to see Rosa was drowning the scout under the river.
"Rosa, that's enough!" Huey claimed. His sister looked up at her brother and saw his worried face. Seeing his worry, she let go of the scout, allowing him to lift his head above the water.
"You're insane!" The scout pushed her off of him and climbed out of the river.
"You deserved it," Rosa mumbled under her breath. She felt her chest for her necklace to see it had ripped off of her neck. Panic struck her face as she looked down at the water. She kicked around and knelt down, trying to find it, "My necklace, it's gone?"
"Serves you right," The scout told her before joining his group.
"Rosa, the competition is going to start soon, you need to get in clean cloths," Violet tried to tell her.
"I can't leave my necklace. What will mami y papi say if they see I lost it?" Rosa kept looking.
"Rosa, get up here," Huey encouraged her. The girl sighed disappointingly and climbed up to her brother.
"I can't leave it in the river," She told him.
"You get ready for the competition, I'll find it," Huey told her. His sister looked up at him with worried eyes before looking back at the campsite.
"I…. Ok," Rosa caved in, "Just be careful hermanito."
"I always am. Now hurry," Huey pushed her to Violet who took her back to the camp site.
Huey then heard as the whole group began to laugh at him.
"Come on hermanito," the scouts stressed that spanish word as if to taunt him. Although he still didn't understand why. They were kids and people just like him, right?
Huey mumbled something unpleasant and left the group. He slid down the muddy hill and followed the river to find his sister's necklace. The hike was around half a mile so he must've been walking for 12 minutes by now.
It took awhile but he finally made it to a dam where the necklace must've gotten stuck. Of course, he thought it was a dam at first sight. When he got closer, he realized it was a pile of mud and wood stuck against a metal fence. He didn't have any time to wonder what that fence was for. He dug into the mud and wood, looking for that necklace. The sun was gone at this point leaving the teen in utter darkness. The water was icy cold and he could feel his legs start to go numb. He left his flashlight at the campsite so that was out. He had to rely on his sense of touch to find that necklace. He felt his nerves start to act up. The atmosphere felt isolated, alone, cold. He never liked being in the dark by himself.
"Look to the stars, my darling baby boy. Life is strange and vast, filled with wonder and joy….." Huey whispered to himself. That one song that his mother and father sang would always bring him comfort. He didn't know why but this song always made him feel like he was home. He just assumed it was because they used to sing it to him every night as a kid. He soon found the necklace stuck on a branch in the river and picked it up.
"Face each new sun with eyes clear and true….." Another voice was suddenly heard not far away. Huey heard it right away. He stopped his singing and listened carefully to the voice, "Unafraid of the unknown, cause I'll face it all with you."
Was that his lullaby the voice was singing? Huey could hear the humming to his song from a close distance. On the other side of the fence. It couldn't be.
Huey climbed out of the river and looked through the fence. He couldn't see anything or anyone but the singing was still clear enough to hear. He continued to walk and look through the fence, trying to find the source of the singing. It was getting louder, he must be close. His gaze was glued on the other side of the fence, looking and searching for the source of that song, his song. His walking soon turned into a light jog when he heard the singing was louder. Not looking where he was going, Huey tripped over a rock causing a small yelp out of him and falling into the bushes.
The singing stopped. Huey couldn't help but feel like it heard him. He quietly dug out of the bush and slowly looked over it. There was still nothing on the other side.
"Hmm… I could've sworn I heard singing," Huey whispered to himself.
Huey slowly got back up and put his hat back on. He turned around to leave, that is until a scream from the trees and a loud thump was heard. Huey looked back behind him and ran to the fence. He looked up at the tree where the scream came from, trying to see what was up there. Out of nowhere, another boy from the otherside stood up. Huey backed away a bit, careful of this stranger. The boy swung off his green hoodie and looked straight at Huey.
The two teens gasped in both amazement and terror. Huey couldn't believe it, this boy looked like him. Despite their different clothing, their faces were exactly alike. Pale skin, light eyes, light hair. It was like looking into a mirror.
"Uhh…. Sorry, I was just ..." Before Louie could say a word, Huey screamed at the top of his lungs and dashed off.
Well that's done and done.
