Hello everyone and I'm back. Also did you know that Persona 5 Royal is a hell of a drug, I didn't but hey it is what it is. Anyway before we get started, I wanted to let everyone know the future of this fanfic. By no means am I stopping far from it actually but I am going to be sorting some plot points I had planned and some more things will be changed more than I originally attended. What brought this up you may ask. Well recently I rewatched all of RWBY and I have noticed multiple flaws that held back the characters in the show. Biggest thing was their motivation as the show went on specifically volumes 4-7. Not only that but the shift that was Adam. I don't think he was meant to be as insane in the end as he was. I don't want to interpret Monty's plan but one does not simply have said person written in a journal and then call him abusive. So I am going to tweek his character.

Next is RWBY "weaknesses". Team RWBY or rather Ruby and Yang had their weakness explored in volumes 4 and 5. However in Yang's case, I don't think her problem is that she uses her semblance too much, but that she needs to be a smarter fighter. Also she has trouble with fighterz (heh see what I did there…. I play too much Fighterz recently) who kick. Case in point one of the Malachite twins and Mercury; however she has always won. So let's give that weakness more center stage. Ruby's case is that she is terrible in hand-to-hand combat. While I agree that she should learn hand-to-hand in order to round out her skills, buI don't think it's that big of a deal. Think of it this way she made a weapon specifically so that she doesn't have to do hand-to-hand. Like for example, Weiss. Weiss from what we've been shown is also terrible in that area but she doesn't have to deal with that now does she. Hell I feel that she is worse than Ruby in the field, but I digress. So yeah that will be tackled in a different way.

Lastly, the relationships. I don't disagree with them but I don't like how they initiated it. And I'm not just talking about Blake and Yang. Jaune and Pyrrha are flawed as well as since they shared one kiss all of a sudden Jaune falls in love? Yeah no. That's not how love works. First comes friendship, then comes interest, then comes relationships. Now you may say as a counter what about Ruby and Drayce. And you would be correct, from what you have seen and know you have a valid point, to which I retort with a) I have insinuated that they have been friends for a while. For years and I will show their friendship trust.

So yeah to accommodate these changes and to try to flesh out the characters as there are so many, I will be adding about two more arcs from the volume 1-3. Like we know Ruby and Yang are sisters but we don't get to see any sisterly interaction until volume 5. Also Ruby and Blake have rarely talked to each other in a one on one and the same could be said for Weiss and Yang.

Anyway that is it now enjoy the chapter.

RWBY: Chosen King and Queen

Chapter 3: Leadership

Team RRZA that morning had decided to get up early to make breakfast, as they decided to decorate their room the night of with them ordering bunk beds and throwing out the other beds. There wasn't much that the crew brought from Arlyn, so they immediately went to class as after they cooked courtesy of Drayce and Rainier. After several minutes as class was about to start teams RWBY and JNPR ran through the door as they were all sprawled out on the ground. "Phew made it," Ruby said only to hear Professor Port, their instructor, to clear his throat.

Peter Port looked as if he was in the early stages of being considered old as he wore a burgundy suit with gold edging and button as well as his pants which were in his boots which were olive green in color. Lastly he had grey hair and mustache, with him being a little big boned as they would say. "Mr. Arc and , I would implore that you have both of your teams to leave earlier from your dorms. It is proper that a good huntsmen and huntress, be on time in any venture. Understood?"

"Understood, Professor Port," they both said. Ruby looked to the seat to spot Drayce there who was trying to contain his laughter, to which made Ruby pout.

For a majority of the class Drayce would say it was boring, so what did he do? He slept. This was something that wasn't a surprise to any of his teammates, Ruby, or Yang. He would always sleep either when he was bored or comfortable. But his slumber was interrupted by the professor himself, "Mr. Regulus!" Drayce woke up to his name being called and looked around to see that the professor and Weiss looked very upset with how he was acting and taking these classes as a leader. "Since you have time to sleep, would you like to tell me the characteristics of being a huntsman or huntress?"

Drayce sighed as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, "Well, I don't know the accurate characteristics that a huntsmen should have." Multiple people in the class laughed with Weiss giving a superior smirk, "However; from what I've experienced and seen, to be a huntsmen you must have the knowledge of every situation and be able to calculate things quickly in order to make the right choice in the moment. Not only that but you must be wise. What I mean by this is to plan ahead for other possibilities, do not think of one solution the de facto solution. There is always another way to solve a problem. Lastly they must have the strength and resolve to do what must be done. Does this answer suffice, Professor."

Everyone was shocked with his answer, except his team along with Ruby and Yang. He was always like this. People who knew Drayce, knew he was smart if only a little lazy. He knew things through experience as he was very perceptive; he preferred looking and analyzing things rather than looking at the information in a book. Experience in a fight is one of the most important things in battle. "T-that is correct Mr. Regulus," he then cleared his throat, "Now which one of you feel as though they are the embodiment of these traits?"

'Queue the stuck up, heiress…' Drayce thought.

"I do sir!" Weiss said.

"Well then, come and face your opponent," Port said with a smile on his face.

As Weiss got ready in her outfit, she stood at the ready, "She has a good stance. Developed from many days of practice," Zyaire said.

"She's a prodigy. No doubt about that. However…" Argus let the sentence hang in the air.

Drayce was looking on intently and observingly. Blake catches on to it and askes, "What is he doing?"

"Oh Drayce gets like that. He's seeing what Weiss can do, it's normal," Ruby said.

"Yeah, he's very analytical, you'll get used to it. He's really chill when you get to know him," Yang said.

As Weiss was fighting, Ruby gave words of encouragement, although Weiss wasn't having any of it. "Go for its belly there's no armor underneath-"

"Stop telling me what to do!"

Ruby looked hurt by that comment and was going to say something only to get a look from Drayce that said to not. After blocking the boarbatusk with a glyph forcing it on its back, Weiss had another glyph waiting behind her to which she jumped and propelled from to instruct the final blow to the grimm.

"Good, very good, we are indeed in front of a true huntress-in-training. That is all the time we have. Please make sure to do the assigned reading and remember, stay vigilant. Class dismissed," Professor Port said.

Weiss stormed out with Ruby following, team RRZA saw what was going to happen and Argus was going to give them a talking to only to be stopped by his leader. Drayce shook his head, "Let's listen but not act."

Ruby approached Weiss, "Weiss what's wrong with you. I thought that-"

Weiss cut through quickly, "What's wrong with me?! What's wrong with you?! You've done nothing to earn your spot as leader and with it you still haven't done anything!"

Ruby looked hurt at the word coming from her partner and teammate, "W-Weiss where is all of this coming from? What happened to us working together as a team?"

"Not a team led by you. I've trained and studied to get where I am and honestly I deserved better." Weiss turned her back and started leaving as she said, "Ozpin made a mistake."

Argus again wanted to give the heiress a piece of his mind; however Rainier stopped him, "Hold yourself, Argus this is no time for this."

"Besides think how Drayce feels and how he's acting," Zyaire said as they all looked to their leader and majesty. He was calm, his expression and his body was still but at ease. He did not react to what Weiss said, Ruby being sad and close to tears.

Drayce looked on and turned back to go to their next class early, "We have another class in 30 minutes."

Argus was more at ease but was confused as well as Zyaire, "What about Ruby and Weiss?"

Drayce stopped, "Ozpin will take care of Ruby while Weiss seems to be headed for Professor Port. They'll set them straight. As for Ruby…" He continued to walk further, "I won't be here all the time. This is her team, and as leader she must be the one to find out a way to pull her team together."

Rainier smiled, 'He rarely shows this side of him. I guess he's given Ruby some tough love; but I bet he will still help no matter what he says.'

The next morning was an interesting one as Ruby and Weiss made up that same night after a little exchange between the two; however for this morning Drayce wasn't or hasn't been talking to any of them. His teammates have been rather social but their leader not so much.

Yang noticed this, and leaned over to Rainier and asked, "Yo what's up with him? He hasn't said anything this whole morning."

Argus smirked, "Oh you'll see. When he gets like this, there is nothing that is going to stop him from achieving his goal. I almost feel bad for them."

Ruby questioned, "Them?" Only to receive a smirk from both Argus and Zyaire. They all looked at Drayce as he just sat there drinking his tea in his own comfortable silence.

"This is combat class. Where you as Huntsman and Huntress-in-training shall hone your skills in the art of combat. You will be facing each other in matches that will be selected on the fly, while also being able to ask to step in the arena as well," Glynda explained. "These battles will be held in a tournament style duel where the first to lose their aura to 15% or below will lose the match. The match can also be won from a stadium out as well. All forms of combat are allowed in order to gauge and improve on your fighting style making it, it's best that it can be. Now then with that being said are there any questions."

A hand raised, and it came from behind Ruby. It was Drayce, "Are you allowed to have team battles and or have battles with disadvantages?"

Glynda nodded, "Yes, you may and these occasions will be called team battles. Also on the notion of having battles that have disadvantages, it is allowed for one side to have more teammates than another per request." Drayce smiled and immediately got up and started walking, "Mr. Regulus, where do you think you're going?"

"Are there more rules?"

"Well no but-"

"Then I will be requesting the first match," Drayce walked to the rails and then jumped off and landed near Glynda, "Would that be acceptable?"

'Interesting, I guess I can see what he's made of. Ozpin did say he was special in combat and could potentially outclass his father given in about a year's time.'Glynda nodded, "Very well, would I be right to assume that you have someone in mind?"

Drayce nodded as he looked to the stands as everyone in the stands whispered (except his team). "Oh the prince wants to fight, oh oh pick me, pick me!" Yang asked as she bounced up and down with her hand raised, really wanting to fight Drayce.

"Sit down Yang, I'll get to you later," He then turned to the person two people next to her, "Ruby, Weiss get down here. Now."

This shocked both of them but for different reasons. For Ruby it was because she was afraid since she didn't want to fight Drayce, not only that she was nervous as she would have to fight with Weiss and even though they hashed out their issue, it was still shaky. Weiss had a similar line of thought but also that she was a little excited as she could show everyone that she could take down a prince from a prestigious nation; however also appalled that he thought that he could take on both her and Ruby. 'I'll show you.'

"Come on or are you chickening out? Is the prestigious heiress and young prodigy too scared to fight a single prince," Drayce taunted. This gave the results to at least one of them, as Weiss started looking furious and she pulled Ruby along who looked still a little intimidated.

Weiss had quickly changed to her combat outfit along with loaded her weapon, Myrtenaster, with the adequate amount of dust for it to be fully effective. She looked over to her partner and noticed that she was distracted. "Ruby are you ready?" Ruby jumps slightly at her name being called to which Weiss sighs, "Ruby what is wrong with you?"

Ruby fidgets, "W-well, if I'm being honest I'm scared."

"Scared of losing?"

Ruby shakes her head, "No, I don't doubt our ability at all but I'm afraid of doing something wrong. Of messing up. What if I let you down? What if I-"

"Stop." Weiss said forcefully, "No matter what happens I am your partner and your teammate. I… know we've only been on speaking terms since last night, but we must win not just for us, but for the pride of team RWBY. I will follow your lead. If you want to be a better leader. Now is time to prove it."

Ruby looked at Weiss in awe and solidified her determination, "Right, let's show him what it means to be a part of team RWBY!" Weiss smirked and they made their way to the arena.

In the stadium Drayce stood there waiting, he didn't need to dress as he came into combat class with regular combat clothing anyway because of the name of the class. Ruby and Weiss entered the ring and they saw him there with his eyes, clothes and arms crossed. "Took you guys long enough."

"We'll make you eat your words, 'your highness'," Weiss said, taking her stance.

"Get ready, Drayce because you're going to see how good I am!" Ruby said with confidence.

Drayce smirked slightly and opened his eyes, "Well you have the act of partners. But let's put that to the test." Drayce put both of his arms down and summoned two weapons in both hands. The first was a katana styled weapon with the blade being a blend of black and red. The hilt was gold in color with the grip being black; however from what it seemed the grip was separated into two sections by a thin segment of gold.

In his left hand was a spear. The whole spear was metal with the shaft being purple and the blade a deep blood red along with its pummel. The interesting thing about the spear was that a glowing blue ribbon was curled around the grip and connected both the blade and the pummel. The blade didn't have a basic design either as the left side of it curled upward and back with it looking like a small crescent moon on the side, with the actual blade connected to the top right of the moon.

Ruby had stars in her eyes, "Whoa…"

Drayce smirked, "Like them? This Solar Eclipse," he said referring to his katana. "And this is Lunar Eclipse," he said to his lance. "But enough talking. Shall we dance?"

Glynda nodded, "Ready… Begin!"

Drayce waited only to find that they were waiting on him, deciding to play defensive, "Hm very well, I'll come to you." Drayce started to run at them until he disappeared.

"What?!" Weiss said only to hear a clash behind her as she looked to find Ruby defending a strike from Drayce's Solar Eclipse, with her Crescent Rose.

"Interesting, you blocked for her."

Ruby smirked, "You forget that I'm also a speedster as well. I saw it all."

Drayce smirked, "Well then you match my speed but what about my skills."

Drayce pulled his lance and tried to stab at Ruby's head, Ruby was not expecting such ruthlessness from Drayce but was barely able to dodge it. Drayce pulled it back then tried to use it to sweep her off her feet, something Ruby wasn't ready for: however Weiss was there and blocked the strike with an ice spike. He had to quickly disengage from Ruby to dodge Weiss' strike at him. "I admit you're faster than I thought you were, but that mistake won't happen again," Weiss declared.

Weiss and Ruby looked at each other and nodded. They didn't have a set plan since they didn't know Drayce's moveset nor did they have good enough chemistry to play off each other so they decided before this that they would play off of each other to take him down quickly. Weiss stabbed her weapon to the ground to make a sort of ice geyser to him. Drayce rolled to the right to where Ruby was already charging him, making multiple strikes at him as she swung her scythe from his right to his left. Drayce parried the strike but Ruby used that momentum to swing faster to his left. In an expert play of precision, Drayce jumped slightly and plunged his lance down hitting the blade of the scythe forcing it to miss his legs. Weiss was quickly coming from behind him to attack him; however he quickly pulled his sword behind him so that he could block her with the face of the blade. Unfortunately for Drayce, Ruby had recovered quickly as she stabbed her weapon into the ground and kicked him away. Drayce recovered in the air only to be met with him getting shot at by Ruby. He spun his lance with one hand constantly as he blocked all incoming fire. Weiss with Ruby occupying him rushed him with attacks, with doing well but it was getting harder for him to defend against both with Ruby's well placed shots. Weiss then caught him as she froze his foot and quickly changed to fire dust to unleash a fireball at him. Barely having enough time, he spun his lance to defend him and an explosion occurred. From the smoke Drayce came rolling from the floor until he flipped to his feet.

In the stance, their friends watched with Yang looking bored, "Man I thought since he called up both Ruby and Weiss that he could take them on, but they're washing him." Blake also agreed with her but she felt like something was wrong.

Jaune then commented, "Yang is right, why did he ask for two challengers when he knows he can't handle both of them?"

"It's because he can handle them," everyone looked to Rainier.

"Um hello he hasn't even touched them yet," Yang argued.

"We're well aware of that," Argus said, "Just watch, there is a reason that all of the RoyalGlaives respect and think highly of him."

In the stadium, Drayce was huffing slightly with more bruises on his clothes. Glynda was watching and was wondering why Ozpin was so interested in this boy. 'Just an arrogant prince to me.'

He looked to his aura meter to find him at 50%. He sighed and then straightened himself up, "You both are much better than I expected." Drayce however knowing his situation had the gall to laugh.

Weiss didn't like this, "Are you mocking us?"

Drayce shook his head, "Oh no not at all. I haven't had this much fun in a while. When you've been training with the same people you kind of get used to them. But with you guys I had to adapt, especially because your two fighting styles are so different. Weiss, you fight with grace and finesse of the likes that very few have and can pull off." Weiss looked very proud of the analysis and was happy to know that she was unique even to the Kingdom of Arlyn. "And Ruby, your speed and your will to never let up is something that should be feared." Ruby blushed at the praise, "However neither are without their flaws."

For Weiss this angered her, who was he to lecture her as it was her beating him. For Ruby it was a little deflating but she steeled herself for what was coming. "Allow me to show you,"he stated and then he sped to both with them ready.

He chose to begin with Ruby and struck at her only to guard from his sword with her weapon, Weiss came up from behind him as Ruby tried to overpower him to give Weiss a better position to attack, but she realized something was wrong when she saw a slight smirk. As she went for a stab motion, Drayce jumped as he was using Ruby to keep her in the same place and with Weiss now below him he brought down his leg as he kicked her down and used her as a spring to flip behind Ruby and kick her away. With Weiss on the ground in front of him, he began to plunge his spear down to her. She barely had enough time to roll out of the way and saw that he was quickly upon her after she got up and instinctively conjured an ice shield from the ground to block his spear, and she thought she was safe for a moment. However Drayce disproved this as he twisted the upper part of the grip to his katana in a revving motion as small flames erupted and heated the blade making it solid red. He made a downward slash as a wave of heated energy cut cleanly through the ice as if it wasn't there and struck Weiss sending her to Ruby. They tried to recover but Drayce's attack were relentless, as he appeared before them and slammed his sword to them, which they were able to dodge and began to counter attack in a pincer attack. Before they got to him Drayce spun his lance then stabbed the blade into the ground, "Whirlpool." He said and the blue cloth unwrapped around the spear and began to spin around Drayce's head. Below him; however a vortex of water began and it pushed both Weiss and Ruby away. Weiss thought quickly and changed to wind as she was flying back and used it to shoot a gust of tornado wind at the water and it rose to the ceiling and engulfed Drayce. She quickly switched to ice and used all of her ice dust in the chamber to shoot it at the water freezing it with layers of protection the likes not even a normal fire dust base attack couldn't penetrate. She began quickly switch out the empty ice dust crystal for another, "That should hold him long enough to make a pla-"

In an eruption of fire Drayce emerged. "You didn't honestly think that would keep me would you?" He saw from behind him Ruby coming to attack as she went for a strike to his waist only for her strike to be deflected upwards, he then low sweeped her and kicked her in the stomach sending her away. Lastly he picked up his lance and threw it at her, so once she landed on the floor her cape got stuck by the spear.

Drayce turned to Weiss, "As I said you are an amazing fighter; however your attacks are too telegraphed and, " He then disappeared from Weiss' sight, "Your attack exude arrogance and ignorance." Weiss tried to react fast enough to be parried multiple times until Drayce hit her with a heated wave of his aura through his sword. "You're not perfect, far from it actually. Hell no one in the world is perfect and perfection is a stupid dream to chase, because once your perfect there is no room for growth." Before he could finish Weiss, Ruby came and clashed with him sending them back slightly.

"And you Ruby Rose," he recalled his lance to him as he sent away his katana as they began to dance around each other as they blocked and dodged strikes. Ruby tried to go for a downward strike but Drayce side stepped and swund his Lunar Eclipse upward at Crescent Rose making it go up in the air but Ruby held onto it and pulled the trigger to it making her spin back to Drayce. Drayce in turn spun his weapon as he used its special water ability to coat it in water making a water shield that blocked it from Ruby's assault, "You never go in with the intent to hurt. Your problem is not fighting in earnest. Not only that but you're worried about your leadership," Ruby's eyes widened and Drayce used that moment to twist his spear sending her flying to where Weiss was. "Leaders aren't born, they are made, they make mistakes but they learn from them, they don't take things as defeat but as a learning experience. They find the weaknesses of their team and cover them, they make the team better and a unit. Until you understand that you will never be a good leader."

That statement from Drayce struck Ruby hard and to the core as her hair shadowed her eyes. In the stands, Yang was visibly upset at how Drayce berated her teammates specifically Ruby, "What the hell is your problem?! Why would you say that to her?!" Yang yelled at him. Drayce however, paid her no mind and thoroughly ignored her completely to the point where he didn't acknowledge she even existed. Yang was furious at this and was going to go down there and beat some sense into him.

"Sit down Ms. Xiao Long, this is not a fight that concerns you," Glynda said in a stern tone.

"What? You can't seriously think this is okay?!" Yang asked.

"Where I think it is right or not is irrelevant. Yang Xiao Long, this is a combat school where we train you to be Huntsmen and Huntresses for the world. A world that is not forgiving even in the time of peace. We at this school do not coddle our students, you'd be well to remember that," she said again to her sternly and seriously.

Yang gritted her teeth, "Guys?" as she turned to her friends specifically the rest of team RRZA, "You can't really agree to what your leader is saying?"

"Sorry Yang, but what he is saying is the truth," Zyaire said.

"How could you-"

"Yang, you are solely looking at this from a point of view of Ruby's feelings. In order for Ruby to grow you need to stop coddling her. She needs to know that out there, in the world, is not as forgiving as we are," Argus said. Yang said nothing as she was frustrated but really couldn't argue with it. "Besides he's speaking from experience. We've all been through and seen a lot of things that you don't know about. Honestly you have no right to judge him."

Yang sat there quietly and looked on at the match. Drayce then continued, "A team is only as great as its leader so show me how great this so called team RWBY is."

Ruby stood there for a couple of minutes until she finally spoke, "Weiss."

Weiss looked to her a little worried about her leader, "Yes Ruby."

"I'm sorry for being such a crappy leader, you were right you do deserve better, Yang and Blake deserve better," Ruby rose from the ground gripping her weapon, "I am sorry Drayce that I haven't given you the courtesy of a fellow fighter as well," Drayce stood stoic. "I swear to you, to my team, to my friends, that I will fix my mistake. I will be a huntress. That I swear to you. So Weiss, would you please follow me."

Weiss looked on in awe, then nodded her head, "Yes, I will follow you lead."

Drayce smirked, "Alright then let's make this first fight of the year a story. A story to remember!"

Drayce summoned back Solar Eclipse and rushed them. "Weiss, Ice glyph!"

"Right!" Weiss made a glyph right in front of Ruby to which Ruby set up shop and started firing as every shot turned to an ice projectile using Weiss' glyph. Revving up his sword, Drayce decided to slice each and every shot coming his way with Solar Eclipse as he slid and flipped around slicing every bullet with just his blade.

Seeing this Ruby decided to charge at him with Weiss in tow. Weiss and Ruby once close enough swung at him only for him to flip over the strike he then went for a wide spear slash at Ruby's torso only to be blocked by an ice spike, leading Ruby to continue. Ruby was slashing at him viciously and with speed unbecoming with a scythe that big. He kept deflecting her strikes until he switched grip styles and used reverse to block and hold Ruby's weapon in a deadlock. Weiss decided to go for an attack as she went for a piercing attack to which Drayce had to use his lance to redirect her from his body. He also spun and used his superior strength to spin and fling Ruby away. Weiss however recovered and summoned a glyph behind Ruby to which she used to bounce off of and continue her assault with Weiss.

'If this continues I'll lose. I have to take out Weiss, her being a support role is helping Ruby get back quicker.' With that in mind he used Lunar Eclipse's Whirlpool ability to get them off of him. He then quickly took his lance and pointed at Ruby, "Spear focus!" Drayce commanded as water built up at the tip and then shot a then line of condensed water at Ruby who blocked but was pushed back a great deal. Weiss came up behind him, and went for another stab that was much quicker because she used a glyph to propel her. So he did the one thing he thought was the best, and with great precision and coordination he jumped and stepped on the blade leaving her completely defenceless. "Sorry Weiss, but I don't plan on losing anytime soon. This will only be enough to take out your aura." Weiss felt a tremendous amount of heat and looked to his blade to see that it was practically beaming with heat so hot that it turned blue, "Agni's Descent," and with one motion , he slashed at Weiss sending her all the way to the wall. He turned back to see Ruby almost to his face, he then tried to jump back, looked down and saw that Weiss at the last second froze his feet. 'Damn!' Quickly thinking of a countermeasure he dropped his weapons and summoned Dragon's Heir, sending his aura into the blade for him to defeat her. Ruby saw this; but did not back down. She swung her scythe with all her might as her eyes silver glowed in response to Drayce's eyes which on the left turned blue, however; unconsciously aura was sent to her weapon and it was able to receive it making it stronger. The two weapons clashed and smoke was kicked into the air from the impact, as people shield their eyes from the wind and dust blowing everywhere.

"Damn I can't see a thing!" Yang yelled.

"Me neither!" Pyrrha yelled.

As the dust settled we saw that Ruby wasn't there but was flung all the way to the wall with her aura completely depleted, while Drayce's Aura at 10% and he was still in the ring but was breathing very heavily.

Glynda looked at all the evidence that she had and deduced, "This match is a draw."
