Tonight is my last night at home before I leave tomorrow to start my first year of college. I was getting really sentimental and thought I would write something to commemorate it and show how I feel. It's a short little thing but I thought it was cute. This is a time of endings and beginnings and I hoped I captured that to the best of my ability. For my summer has come to an end for me, and thank you to all who have been a part of it.
The summer wind, came blowin' in from across the sea
"Are you going to tell me where we're going?" Elsa asked from the arms of her boyfriend as they flew over the sleeping town.
The ghost hero just smiled at her, "Nope."
It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me
She gasped when she saw the glittering ocean in the distance, excitement growing as they neared the small beaches of Amity Park. Admittedly, she hadn't spent much time there. Most of her summer was spent helping Danny with ghosts when she could and relaxing with her friends when they had a free moment.
But it was beautiful. Long silvery sands and black waves lit by the moonlight, glowing under the stars.
All summer long, we sang a song, and then we strolled that golden sand
He set her down gently, turning back into Fenton as the flash bounced off the darkness around them.
She took a deep breath, inhaling the salty night air, and relaxed against him. She leaned against his chest, watching the iridescent light reflect on the inky waves spread below her. Suddenly, music, clear as ever, floated through the air. The jazzy sounds of an old record made Elsa look up at Danny.
He wore a smile and just shrugged, feigning innocence. She gave him a look before going back to the comfortable place against his chest and swaying to the music.
Two sweethearts, and the summer wind
"I wanted to make your last night in Amity Park special," he said softly as they gently swayed, the sea breeze blowing around them.
She let out a short laugh, "You act like I'm going away forever. I'll be back by fall break."
He laughed and shook his head, "I don't know how I'll last until then."
Like painted kites, those days and nights they went flyin' by
His hand slowly took hold of hers and brought it up, his other hand landing on the the small of her back, keeping her against him. She met his soft smile as he began to step to a sort of waltz, the one two three pattern reminding him of when he first learned it from her.
She returned his smile with one of her own, following him in the dance as she pressed her cheek to his. She breathed out a sigh at the feeling of him so close to her.
"Do you remember when we first met?"
The world was new, beneath a blue umbrella sky
Elsa hummed, pressing further into him, "How could I forget? I made a fool of myself by speaking the wrong language."
"You made a fool of yourself?" he scoffed, "Last time I checked it was me that ran into you. Don't go around telling everyone you were the awkward one, that's my thing."
Her laugh ran out on over the waves, the ocean taking it as one of it many secrets to hold and protect.
Then softer than, a piper man, one day it called to you
Elsa felt like she was in an old movie. The kind where skin glowed in the enchanting black and white lighting and stories of romances that would never survive reality were told. She could practically feel Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Audrey Hepburn smiling down in approval of her wonderful scene.
But she felt Danny sigh against her, "I wish you wouldn't leave."
I lost you, I lost you to the summer wind
"I'll be back," she said, but her heart sagged in her chest, "But I'll miss you."
He shook his head, "It'll be so weird, not having you there."
"It'll be weird to be back home," she shrugged, "It's familiar but not. I'll be on the lookout for ghosts but there won't be any to fight."
"I wasn't kidding when I gave you the specter deflector."
She smiled fondly and leaned against his cheek again, "I know."
The autumn wind, and the winter winds, they have come and gone
The slow and deep tones of the song seemed to lull them into an open state of romance. Their cheeks were close and sometimes brushed against each other, but neither said anything.
She smelled like vanilla and roses, a smell that made his heart swell. It smelled like home. And he was so warm and comforting that Elsa could just melt into him.
"We actually haven't talked much about Arendelle," Danny said softly to fill the silence, "What's it like over there?"
Elsa shrugged, a little too lost in the moment to really talk about her home country, "Just a few cultural differences. English was the hardest part of adjusting because to me, all your words and letters seem jumbled and weird," she shook her head and closed her eyes, "But I don't want to think about that right now."
He laughed softly before continuing, "I haven't heard you speak much norwegian," he smiled to himself before quoting one of her favorite movies, "How would you say, 'My sister has a yellow pencil?'"
"Søsteren min har en gul blyant," she replied laughing before she smiled widely. He hated that movie.
"What about… I'm so happy I walked down that hallway and straight into you."
She let out another small laugh as her nose turned into his cheek, enjoying the feeling of closeness they shared, "Jeg er så glad jeg gikk ned den gangen og rett inn i deg."
"Then what about," he pause and pulled her to his front so she would face him, "I'm dancing with the most beautiful girl I've ever met."
Her eyes widened at the look of adoration in his eyes, heat flooding her cheeks.
And still the days, those lonely days they go on and on
He studied her, trying to take in every detail he could to remember her by. Sure he had pictures, but nothing was like the real thing.
Here she stood, hair unkempt and messy in the wind, in nothing but one of his shirts and and a pair of shorts, and pink dusting her cheeks from the cool night air. No effort had been put into her appearance. But to Danny, his heart swelled at the sight of her natural allure. Her beautiful blue eyes shone like stars and her lovely ivory skin was highlighted in the silvery moonlight. She was absolutely gorgeous.
It was not just her beauty, which was undoubtable, but something else about her seemed to grab his attention and pull him in. The brain underneath her platinum hair, the laughter in her shining eyes, the nose that crinkled when she was unhappy with something, and those pink lips that had smiled, sobbed, shouted, and shared secrets with him.
He guessed now was as good a time as any. "Elsa?"
And guess who sighs his lullabies through nights that never end
"Hm?" she hummed back.
"I-I have something I want to tell you," he took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves, "There are so many things I like about you, Elsa. There is no way I could name them all. The other things I could definitely name."
As soon as the words came out his mouth, he cursed his rotten Fenton Luck that he'd just put his foot in his mouth when he was really trying to compliment her.
But she just quirked a brow at him, a smirk on her lips, "You're not perfect either, Inviso-Bill. I could name all your 'other things.'"
"Oh really?" he challenged her.
My fickle friend, the summer wind
"You're always late wherever you go, the only Shakespeare you know is Gnomeo and Juliet, and you use way to many puns," she gave him a smirk as she counted the things of on her fingers.
He gave her a devilish smile, "You're stuck up and too strict about homework, you never know how to relax, and you read school books for fun."
She leaned in closer, "You're a slacker."
He leaned in as well, "You're stubborn."
"You're oblivious."
"You eat like we're having tea with the queen when we go to the Nasty Burger."
"Your jokes are sometimes just so bad, you goofball!" she yelled at him, bright smiles on both their faces, but hers soon faded as all the air left her lungs. The moon was behind him, enhancing his already handsome face, and her heart suddenly swelled, "And despite all that… I love you."
He blinked back to her, realizing that she'd beat him to his confession, but a goofy, breathless smile was there nonetheless at the idea of this girl, this beautiful, smart, wonderful girl who he'd never thought he had a chance with, loved him.
"I love you too, princess."
The summer wind
Then he kissed her. They savored the moment, memorizing each other's scent, feel, and touch, for all the lonely nights ahead.
Warm summer wind
But it was also a reminder of the reunion they would share in the future. This was not a goodbye, just a see you later.
That's the thing about best friends. You can be gone for days or years and leave them as much as you like, but when you see them again and reunite…
The summer wind ~
You find a way to pick up right where you left off.
