Without further ado, let the chapter begin!
Although Rosie was exhausted, she knew that she only had five more minutes left for the training session. She held her bō tightly in her arms and narrowed her eyes at her father.
"Keep going." Rosie told her father and breathe heavily.
Six didn't hesitate to continue his attack as he swung his magna blades at her. With Rosie's speed, she was able to block his attacks with her bō. She held her breathe when she tried to twist her bō around and tried to kick Six on the stomach.
However, Rosie was send flying to the wall and she faintly yelped.
"Ow." Rosie winced and rubbed her back.
Six stopped and retract his blades into his sleeves. He approached Rosie and held his hand out for her to grab. Rosie breathe heavily and grabbed his hand as she slowly got up.
There was sweat on Rosie's forehead and she slowly wiped the sweat with the back of her hand. She looked at the time on the clock, it's almost 6:30. She needs to get ready for school or else she'll be late.
"How did I do with training today?" Rosie asked while she set the bō at the corer of the training room.
"Your speed has been improving and already polish your defense techniques. Your attacks need a lot more work." Six admitted.
Rosie kept mental notes about what she needs to improve on. Since Rosie is short and doesn't have much muscles, it's tricky for her to throw powerful punches or kicks. She's able to make up for it with her acrobatic tricks.
Rosie thought about what she could do to help with her attacks. She asked, "Do we have any of those wearable weights that Uncle Caesar made for us?"
"They're in the lab at the vault. You know the password. But I'm warning you, make sure the weights are at level one. I don't want you to overwork your body too much in one day." Six warned.
Rosie smiled, "Relax dad. I know better than to put the weights at level five...especially with what happened last time with Uncle Rex."
Six smirked slightly, "Well, he shouldn't have test them out during a mission."
"You're too mean to him." Rosie giggled.
"Hey Rex. Can I ask you something?" Aaron asked.
They were watching the kids doing their school work and made sure nothing bad would happen. Blake was already wearing the artist gloves to make sure he doesn't accidentally blow up some supplies or the table.
Rex glanced at Aaron and noticed that something was on his mind.
"If you want the talk about the birds and bee then you're on your own." Rex admitted.
Aaron turned red and complained, "That's not what I wanted to talk about. Besides, you really think I would ever think about doing that knowing what Six would do to me if he finds out? I know I'm already a dead man for dating his daughter but I don't want my death to be painful."
Rex chuckled and said, "I'm just teasing you. What's wrong?"
"Next week is the anniversary of when I first met Rosie. I want to do something special for her but I'm not sure what to do." Aaron admitted.
Rex crossed his arms and watched the kids carefully. He admitted, "Well, Rosie isn't that picky. Just try going out to watch a movie or go to an amusement park. Or maybe try taking her out for dinner."
Aaron mentally groaned and complained, "I don't want to try anything that we already did. Rosie deserves something special for the anniversary. I'll try asking my aunt about this."
Carlos raised his hand and asked, "Mr. Kitt? Mr. Salazar? Do we have to do this worksheet?"
"I always asked myself the same thing when Holiday started to focus on my homeschooling." Rex admitted.
The kids tried to come up with a different plan to get out of doing their school work. However, Aaron sternly said. "Kids, don't even think about it. Look, we'll help you out with whatever question you're stuck on. After you're all done, maybe we can try having fun in the Petting Zoo."
"Okay." They slowly said and went back to their worksheets.
Aaron heard Harper cry from her playpen and said, "I'll get her."
He approached the playpen and picked up the crying baby girl. He smelled something foul and groaned, "Oh boy. No wonder you're upset, you unleashed a stink bomb."
"Don't worry Aaron, you'll get use to this soon." Rex reassured.
"Rosie, I can handle the kids right now if you want." Rebecca suggested.
She and Rosie were monitoring the kids at the lab and they were either busy watching a movie. Or playing some games on their assigned tablets. While the kids were entertained, Rebecca and Rosie are able to monitoring their nanites with the small device attached to their tiny wrists.
Rebecca noticed Rosie would multitask on her laptop. Once side of the screen was showing the data they're collecting while the other side was a document of an essay she was working on.
"I'm fine mom. We need to get this data pronto." Rosie admitted and continued skimming through the data and then wrote down some separate notes in her English notebook.
Rebecca grabbed Rosie's laptop from her and sternly said, "If you need to finish your homework then focus on that."
Rosie tried to protest but the warning look from her mother made her stop. She realizes why Six was afraid of Rebecca. Her glare doesn't match her dad's glare. Rosie sign quietly and whispered, "Can I please have my laptop back?"
"I'm trusting that you'll focus on your English homework if I give it back to you." Rebecca said and handed the laptop back to her daughter.
Rosie nodded and expand her word document to focus on her essay. She felt someone tug on her sweater and looked to the side.
Blake looked at her and held up another book, "Can you read me this?"
"Give me ten minutes to finish this Blake. I'll read to you once I'm done." Rosie replied while she started typing quickly. Blake looked interested and peeked over her arm to look at the words forming rapidly into the document.
Blake sat on Rosie's lap and watched her type without her missing a beat.
Rebecca smiled at them and turned her attention towards the kids. She noticed one of them were missing. "Um...Doctor Holiday? I accidentally turned invisible again." Janet said and was poking Rebecca's leg. She looked down and noticed a shadow on the floor.
"What happened this time?" Rebecca asked and tried to figure out what went wrong.
Janet shrugged, but they wouldn't notice since she was invisible.
"I was just playing a game when Debbie told me I turned invisible again." Janet said and Rebecca grabbed two small gauntlets from the table and strapped them to her wrists after removing the device.
Rebecca pressed a button and Janet became visible again.
Rebecca explained, "Caesar designed these gauntlets to help disable your nanites if you ever accidentally turn invisible. They're still in the testing phase. Do you anything while wearing them?"
Janet shook her head and asked, "Can I go play now?"
"Sure you can. But if you start to feel funny while wearing the gauntlets then take them. Then you tell either me, Rosie or Aaron about it so we can find another way to help you with your powers." Rebecca said while Janet ran back to her tablet.
Rosie frantically finished typing the last few words on her essay. She clicked saved and started to submit her assignment online as she exclaimed, "Finally done with English. You would think that this would be the easiest class. But that's not the case if you have Mr. Leroy."
Rebecca looked at Rosie and asked, "What's wrong with your English teacher?"
"He always assigns an essay every two weeks and expects us to do our assigned reading at the same time. I love reading mom, but reading Fahrenheit 451 isn't something I'll reread again." Rosie sigh and rubbed her forehead.
"I hate to admit this but what's going on in high school will seem like child's play compare to college." Rebecca said.
Rosie resist the urge to groan in misery but she grabbed the book from Blake's hand.
"Let's focus on reading this-Really Blake? You want me to read 50 Below Zero again?" Rosie asked and stared at the book.
Blake started to smiled and exclaimed, "I just like it when you read it. You make it funny."
That made Rosie fill her heart with pride and joy.
"Okay. I'll read it one more time."
It was already night time and Rosie was in the middle of the putting her hair up. She places her hair in a messy bun and started to stretch her arms out. Ever since Rosie has been taking care of the kids, she notices her new responsibility was wearing her body out more than usual. She wonders if it was because she's moving none stop through the day.
Overall, it was worth it for Rosie since she loves being around the kids.
It will be a sad day for her when Providence finds an official replacement for her. All she can do is cherish each moment she has with the kids.
Rosie turned off the lights in her room and crawled into bed. She pulled the covers over her and started to drift into a sweet slumber.
It got interrupted by something heavy beside her in her bed. Rosie frowned, she opened her eyes and spotted Zane sitting on her bed.
"Surprise." Zane said with a hint of amusement in his voice.
Rosie grabbed one of her pillows and tossed it at Zane's head.
He started to look unamused and dully said, "Ow."
"As if that hurt you. Why are you in my room again? You're not here to tell me that you found more kids for me to take care of." Rosie tiredly said and sat up.
Zane got up from her bed and waited for Breach to form her usual portal. Once the crimson portal appeared, Zane motioned for Rosie to follow. "I rather talk to somewhere private. This information needs to kept hidden because I'm worried about what Providence will do to the kid if they knew about this." Zane quietly muttered.
Rosie raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.
"How do I know this isn't a trick or something like that?" Rosie asked.
Zane admitted, "This isn't a trap. We need to talk about one of your students. I think his name is Blaine?"
"Blake? Is there something wrong?" Rosie worriedly said.
Zane motioned for Rosie to follow him and walked through the portal. Without much options, Rosie immediately followed him after she put on a robe.
Once the portal vanished, Rosie found herself in the Van Kleiss' old castle. She noticed Biowulf, Skalamander, and Breech in the throne room with Zane.
"Hello." Rosie greeted them but they didn't pay attention to her.
Zane casually sat on the broken up throne chair and remarked, "I never thought in a million years that I would sitting on the old man's chair. How things have changed."
"I hope it's for the better." Rosie said and crossed her arms.
Zane rolled his eyes and leaned back in the chair, "Cut me some slack why don't ya? I hadn't done anything too hasty lately. The only thing I've been doing is trying to rather information."
Zane tossed an envelope to Rosie and she caught it effortlessly. She opened the envelope and stared at the picture that dropped in her hand. Rosie looked stunned and looked up at Zane, "This that..."
"Yeap. Now I want you to keep that a secret but make sure you cut off that mad woman off the picture. I'm sure that the couple in the picture might be Blake's parents. So your job is to find out what's going on and find some answers." Zane mumbled.
Rosie stared at the picture and placed it inside one of the pockets in her robe. She looked at Zane and asked, "How do I repay you for finding this?"
"Nothing yet. Don't worry, I won't ask for anything too serious. But keep in mind, I could ask you for a favor at anytime." Zane told her and motioned for Breach to create a portal.
Rosie looked at Zane and back at the crimson portal.
Was it the best idea for Rosie to return the favor for Zane at anytime? She approached Zane and held her hand out for him. Zane raised an eyebrow and waited for Rosie to say something. She said, "I promise to return you the favor. Thank you. You know I'm a woman of my word."
Zane shook his head but grabbed Rosie's hand to shake.
"I believe you."
That's it for Chapter 43~ I finished this on Sunday and I decided to post it on the Friday. Which is today. I'll be busy for the weekend so it would be right for me to post the chapter as scheduled. Plus it was a struggled to type the story when I got some acrylic nails and I'm still trying to get use of using my hands with the new nails. LOL (It's still a struggled but I think I'm getting the hang of this.)
Thank you for your review in the last chapter YellowAngela :) As you said before, we'll wait to see if Suzie will pay for what she's done to Rosie. In my opinion, I felt like Rebecca was probably picked on when she was a child. When I was in elementary to middle school, I was always teased or bullied because I was so happy and eager to be at school. It got worse when I was the 'goody two shoes'. I never bothered anyone since I never tattled tale or anything like that. But the kids found me as an easy target for that. But its in the past now. :) I'm glad you like the part where Rosie stand up to Knight. I tried to make Rosie at least a perfect blend of both her parents. But sometimes she's like either one of her parents in certain situations :)
Since winter break is coming up for me, I might have more time to type up more chapters. But I would need to get through finals first :D Until then, I hope everyone is safe and good luck with school or work. Have a nice day! :)
