Without further ado, let the chapter begin!
Once every month, the Holiday family would go out for dinner at any restaurant to spend more time with one another. This was a little tradition that the family has other than family movie night on Fridays.
It was suppose to be Rosie's turn to pick the restaurant that they should go to. But she decides that they should go to somewhere Ava might like to go to.
"I like seafood!" Ava smiled and looked through the menu.
Everyone said in unison, "We know."
Ava looked for what she wanted while Rosie was zoning out. She stared at only one page and kept thinking about her nightmare last night. For the past two nights, Rosie hasn't gotten a good night sleep.
As usual, Rosie believes that it might be because of stress from school and work with the kids. But she wonders why do the nightmares still come back? Rosie made sure she keeps taking necessary breaks and has the same diet.
"Rosie?" Rebecca asked worriedly and grabbed Rosie's shoulder. Which made her jumped slightly and replied, "What?"
"You need to say your order." Ava smiled, she didn't noticed Rosie was distracted.
Rosie quickly set her menu down and started to tell the waitress that she wanted a glass water and a shrimp Alfredo pasta.
The waitress wrote down the last order and smiled, "I'll get your food and drinks ready right away."
After she left, Rosie could feel the gaze of her parents on her. That made her want to crawl into a hole and stay there.
"Rosie, what's going on? Are you stressed because of the field trip coming up? Or is it because we'll be going to Brazil for the weekend?" Rebecca asked.
Rosie wanted to hit her head against the table because she made her parents worry about her. Again. She replied, "I'm fine. My nightmares are slowly coming back. It might have been the movie I watch with Aaron on Sunday."
"What did you watch? You know how you get with horror movies." Six told her.
Rosie looked away awkwardly and said, "Um...It was...The Quiet Place."
Both parents gave Rosie a look and she immediately held her hands up in surrender.
"Don't worry, I learned my lesson." Rosie said.
Ava colored in her menu and looked up at her family, "Hey Rose, are you still going to college after summer break is over?"
Rosie was glad that Ava was already changing topics and she relaxed, "That's the plan. Originally I was planning on staying at home to do community college. But I already got accepted to one of the colleges I want to attend."
"Is it Harvard?" Ava guessed.
"Nope. I don't think I am qualified for Harvard either way." Rosie chuckled.
"MIT?" Ava tried again.
"Your sister would have gotten in if she tried to apply. She already has straights A's since middle school, she did a lot of volunteer and community hours for her graduation requirements. Plus, Knight did mention he'll write a letter of recommendation for her if she needed one." Rebecca smiled as she always felt proud of Rosie and all her accomplishments she did during high school.
Rosie blushes heavily, "Mom, it's not that big of a deal."
"It's a big deal to us." Six admitted.
Rosie looked at her parents and faintly smiled, "It is? I was just doing what I'm suppose to do."
"You're doing so much more Rosie, you're doing well in school, you're helping us a lot with the kids at Providence. And you're always a good kid. Don't think your good deeds don't go unnoticed. Your father and I actually have a little gift for you." Rebecca smiled and pulled out a small gift box from her purse.
She handed Rosie the bag and everyone waited for Rosie to open it.
Rosie opened the box and saw two charms for her charm bracelet and smiled softly.
The first charm was a small owl with sapphire gems in it's eyes. It had a graduation cap on its head and a tassel danging from its feet. The second charm showed Mickey and Minnie Mouse looking at some fireworks. On the other side of the charm said, "Happily Ever After."
"Wow, thanks mom, thanks dad. I love them." Rosie gratefully said admired the tiny charms in the box. Ava looked excited and said, "Can I tell her the news!?"
"What news?" Rosie asked as she wasn't sure what Rosie meant.
Six sigh, "Go ahead and tell her-"
"We're officially going to Disney World during the summer! Mommy and daddy said we can go to all four parks for your graduation gift!" Ava squealed happily.
Rosie stopped the box in shock and whispered, "Shut the front door. I thought we weren't going."
"This might be our last family trip before you go off to college. So your father and I decided that it would be best if we take you back to Disney. That's always been your favorite place to go ever since you were little." Rebecca softly said and Rosie's eyes lit up.
Rosie grinned, "Dad you must really love so much if you hate going to Disney?"
"Do you want me to cancel the trip right now?" Six mumbled.
Rosie started to laughed and Ava smiled at them before she said, "You can't do that daddy. You don't like to see us sad, so it's a lose lose thing for you."
"Don't test me kids."
"So, they've finally left." Rosie told Aaron as they were at the lab getting some important work done. Rex, Six, and Rebecca had left to go to Brazil to check why is there a large level of nanite activity there.
Rosie made sure that Ava, Blake, Debbie, Franklin, Gracie, and Inca were in bed before she went to the lab. She and Aaron need to give the weekly report on the kids and they decided it would be best to do it now.
Aaron was skimming through the notes about the kids and responded, "You know, any normal couple would take advantage of not having the parents home."
"But we're not normal." Rosie teased and kissed his cheek.
Aaron turned his head and kissed Rosie softly, "You can say that again."
Rosie smiled and they went back to work. Aaron was trying to figure out ways to help Franklin with keeping his powers in control. He seems to be one of the few kids that were falling behind. Aaron wanted to make sure that he can help Franklin but still doesn't know yet.
He noticed Rosie was looking at some strange files that had pictures of a woman. Aaron looked at the papers Rosie was reading and frowned, "Hey babe, why are you looking at that woman's profile? And since when were you interested in as psychiatric hospitals?"
"Well, I found some information about Blake. This is his mother, Linda Johnson. Formerly known as Linda Anderson by most people that knew her." Rosie began and kept pulling out more papers from the file.
Aaron grabbed what appears to be Blake's birth certificate and frowned.
Father: Erin Anderson.
...Erin? Linda? That sounds awfully close to their names, Aaron and Rosalinda. It made Aaron think that it was a pure coincidence. Aaron sigh quietly and looked at his girlfriend.
Aaron asked, "So, why is Blake's mother in a mental hospital and where is his dad?"
Rosie sigh quietly and rubbed her temples, "There wasn't much given. All that it states on the records was that Linda's ex husband placed Linda in the hospital after a violent outburst and that she was slowly losing her sanity. The thing that I'm trying to figure out is how did Blake ended up by himself. All I know is that Erin and Linda went to Dr. Michael for help because they wanted a child."
"This mad man was taking advantage of anyone who was desperate for a solution to their problems." Aaron muttered.
After Providence captured and arrested Van Kleiss and Michael, there was a thousand more people that were coming forward about being patients to Michael. Most cases weren't an big deal since most of the people miraculously didn't obtain nanite abilities like the children.
However, both Rebecca and Rosie theorizes that the patients might ending giving the next generation nanite abilities. So Rebecca had to work on making a vaccine that would help neutralized the nanites. It's still a work in progress for everyone.
"We're trying to fix the mistake that Michael made...but the problem is there could be others out there besides the kids with powers. They might be keeping it a secret since they don't want us to take their powers away." Rosie mumbled before she cleaned up the mess on the table. She set the files in a secure cabinet and made her way to a white board.
"I wish we could give these kids an option to erase their powers. Most of these kids weren't born with these powers so it's taking a toll on their bodies." Rosie admitted.
Aaron got interested and asked, "What do you mean by that?"
Rosie motioned at the board and wrote down some names.
"Okay. Take Aidan for example. Since Aidan was born with his fire powers, his body is already adjusted to the high body temperature. Now if he wasn't born with his powers then it could lead to something deadly. Like major brain damage and possibly death. That's when he would be a newborn, meaning that he probably wouldn't make it. Now with Gracie, her parents did inform us when her powers came out, everything overwhelm her to the point that she got migraines and nausea for weeks. Eventually her body slowly got use to the sudden changes and began to adapt with her powers." Rosie explained in full details about each of the kids.
Aaron listened to everything that Rosie was telling him. It was cute to see her be passionate about something she's trying to work on. He didn't realize that he stop listening to her until Rosie put her hands on her hips and asked, "Are you even listening to me?"
"Yes." Aaron lied and Rosie raised an eyebrow, "What did I say?"
Aaron slowly said, "You were mentioning about...Franklin?"
Rosie shook her head and said, "I figured I lost you when I noticed you were daydreaming."
Aaron held his hands up in defense but they heard the door slid open. They looked and spotted Blake.
Blake tiredly rubbed his eyes and had a blanket in one hand. With the other kept rubbing his eye. He slowly opened his eyes and looked up at the couple.
"Blake, what's wrong?" Rosie whispered and approached the young boy.
Blake reached for her and Rosie immediately picked him up and held him close.
"I had a bad dream." Blake yawned and snuggled in Rosie's arms as he was getting comfortable.
Rosie started to pat his back gently and softly said, "Don't worry Blake. I know what can help with a nightmare. Do you want me to read you a story and stay until you fall asleep?"
The boy nodded and lay his head on Rosie's shoulder.
Aaron looked at the time and admitted, "It is getting late, we should probably go to bed afterwards."
Rosie agreed with him and they left the lab after turning off the lights. Blake yawned quietly and looked up at Rosie and Aaron. They started talking about what activities they wanted to do with the kids tomorrow. The way that they were calmly talking to one another made Blake feel calm and safe.
Blake started to drift into a deep slumber and had a small smile on his face.
Zane finished wrapping bandages around his hands and arms. He felt exhausted after working on fixing the castle in the Abysus. He wasn't sure why he was working hard on making everything the way he wanted it.
It's not like he wasn't going to follow his father's footsteps and taking over the Abysus...right?
Zane sigh miserably and left his room.
How he could go for a slushie right now. That usually help calm his nerve and maybe the coolness from the slushie will help cool his burnt hands.
That means Breach would help him get to the nearest city easy. So Zane knew he needs to go to her help.
Zane went outside to the small garden he helped Breach make and looked around for her.
"Hey Breach. Where are you?" Zane called out and looked around for her. Usually she would help tend to the flowers whenever they're not doing anything.
Seeing that she wasn't around, Zane decides to look for her later and mumbled, "She's probably going around to look for a new flower to add into the garden."
There was an uneasy feeling creeping up to Zane's spine. It was so unsettling but Zane decides to ignore it...how he'll regret that tomorrow...
That's it for Chapter 46...I'm so sorry for the late update! DX I was busy with being on break and working on my other story. I apologize profusely for the late update and I'll try to update more sooner.
Thank you for your last review YellowAngela! There's bound to be danger taking care of kids with powers. Especially when half of them have a power that could be harmful. Lol. I figured Six would know about cutting hair, maybe he can teach his daughter how to cute hair later. That's a funny idea. XD and funny thing about school. Today was my first day back at class and barely ten minutes before Spanish class started, my class got canceled because not many students registered. So the other Spanish class only had 12-1:45 for the time frame. I already had art for that time on Mondays and Wednesdays. So I made the decision to drop that class and register for Spanish. It was a fun day with me stressing out about my classes. Not bad for a Wednesday.
I'll do my best to posting chapter 47 soon. Keep a look out for chapter 3 of When Worlds Collide, I really like writing that story, it's so fun. Well, let me give you a little spoiler for chapter 47...there's something intense coming :D Until then, I'll see you guys next time and have a nice night! :)
