Hey everyone! This is my first author's note and I wanted to give a friendly warning. I'm going to be splitting my post schedule now that I have another story Idea. so expect a chapter for this story every other Saturday from now on!
With that being said, enjoy!
p.s: Dusk and Dawn has been postponed for the foreseeable future. It's still coming, I promise you that, just not soon.
Sean lunged forward with Raze-Lighter in hand. He quickly slashed through one of the creatures and reduced it to a pile of ash. He looked at the others with a stare of blood lust. The beasts did not relent however. Instead four tried lunging at the Titan, clearly not learning their lesson. Sean stepped back this time and waited for them to attack. They lunged and with one swift motion, Sean swung his sword horizontally and decapitated them all, leaving their headless husks on the ground. Another two flanked him and stuck to his back, their claws seeping into his skin as they penetrated the undersuit of his armor. This was an unwise decision however as Sean immediately shook them off and held them both by the necks. With one subtle move, snapping them. He then heard the captain to his left.
He saw Rex doing what he could against the beasts, but his blaster and fists were proving ineffective. Sean dropped his sword and charged at blinding speed toward the aggressors, charging a flaming hammer as he went. He made contact with the creature and rammed the hammer into the it's skull, creating a second pile of ash, because every ash pile needs a friend. One of the creatures grabbed Rex's leg and started dragging him away. Sean was quick to react however. He ran after Rex and managed to catch him. He stomped on the beast's skull, thus caving it in. He and Rex ran back to the camp to regain their territory. Upon arriving, they saw that there were still quite a few of the creatures left. These were starting to remind Sean of the cabal's domesticated War Beasts. The duo quickly regained their footing in front of the injured human's tent and took a battling stance in a very cliche standoff. Realizing that Rex's weapon was useless, he handed Rex a pair of small pistols, "Take them. They're more effective." Sean said. Rex pointed one of the pistols at a beast and pulled the trigger. A purple bolt flew through the air and went through the creature's head. Rex only nodded but the Irish titan could tell that the captain was excited.
Sean wasn't playing games anymore. He decided he was going all out on this. He pulled out his Hammerhead. He made sure it wouldn't jam this time around. He raised his weapon and with on audible click of the safety, The steel-clad titan rained hell on the poor creatures and Rex got a few shots in as well. The beefy sounds of the lmg rang through the night along with the small sounds of light firearms. Rex ran out of things to shoot at and looked at Sean. He was mowing them down with his machine gun with no mercy. Rex couldn't help but feel a ping of remorse, but he buried it in his chest. Sean however, was as happy as could be. the screams of pain as the bolts of void energy tore through flesh and bone like a hot knife through butter filled him with an exhilaration that he hadn't felt since his first time taking an SMG to a Thrawl rave. Sean let off a sadistic smile as he continued causing them pain, until the growls and cries stopped. There were at least a body count of twenty. Sean put away his Hammerhead, picked up Raze-Lighter, putting that away as well, and sat down on the ground, seemingly exhausted.
"Well." The titan gave a content sigh. "That was fun."
"Fun?!" Rex asked in disbelief. "Yeah. It was fun. Trust me, if your a guardian who's been alive for over three hundred years, then you'll find enjoyment in the weirdest things." Sean said casually. Rex continued to stare until he decided to try paying attention to something else. "So... you are immortal?" Rex asked, trying to spark conversation. "Yeah. All guardians are immortal. Not in the sense where nothing can hurt us, but more so that we can die over and over again and still come back. We are immune to death, but only because of the ghost. Guardians don't naturally age, so that isn't a problem, but looking death in the eyes... that's a different story." Sean began, sounding more... down, "Guardians can die over and over again, which has made them careless. They have to much faith in their immortality and run into the crowd when they don't need to. Guardians like me understand this, but the younger ones never listen. No matter how much we try they will always neglect our experiences. I just wish more listened, because I've seen too many of my brothers and sisters die their final deaths because of their hubris. Many say immortality is a blessing, but I and a couple on the contrary think it is a curse, and in many ways... it is." Sean finished.
"That's pretty heavy. I could never accept immortality, and this was forced on you. I've had my fair share of losing my brothers. War is brutal, unforgiving, merciless. I think we both know that though. I still can't wrap my head around why so many have to die. We were made to fight and die, even though we are living things too. Our Generals respect us enough to treat us like people, but there are some that have no respect for us and see us as military hardware." Rex ranted.
Sean spoke, "I know how you feel. Us guardians were resurrected because we could use the light as a weapon. We were made to be living weapons to defend the Traveler and were supposed to have blind loyalty to it. We were an army created to be expendable, just like you. We've both seen siblings in arms die on our watch in the name of something we were thrown into by chance. Now that I think about it, You and I aren't so different. Neither are the guardians and the Clone Army."
There was a long silence as Rex was at a loss for words. He couldn't think of what to say.
After a long silence, they heard rustling in the tent and went to check it out. They saw the human tossing and turning in discomfort. they both sigh and sit back down. Rex remembered the pistols that the titan gave him. Rex was going to give them back until Sean stopped him. "No thank you. YOU need them more than I do, so you can keep'em."
Rex put the pistols into his holsters which fit surprisingly well. They continued to stare at the fire while Sean took another swig of his whiskey. Rex looked at the moon, and then the path which the scouting party had left.
"Aayla, I hope you and the others are doing better than we are."
