I don't own digimon.
Session 92
Forbidden Knowledge
Adarnamon awoke in a cage.
Out of all places she could've awoken in, this ranked as one of the worst in her book. The smell of chemicals seemed to hang in the air, truly adding to the reddish sky and rubble she could make out around her.
"Ugh." the bird digimon thought and gave the air another sniff. A feeling of nostalgia seemed tempt her, attempting to remind her of something she had long forgotten. "Letorramon, are you still there?"
Very carefully, Adarnamon slammed her wings into the bars of her prison and watched it shatter. Once outside, she flapped her wings up into the air and flew north. Gray clouds of smoke passed by, threatening to bring a sulfur-like smell to cloud one senses. Skeletons gazed up towards her, wishing for wings like Adarnamon's. Even if they were sentient, she doubted they would ever get their wish fulfilled.
"What happened here?" she thought as her gaze caught the edge of a wall. Carefully landing on it, the bird digimon gazed once more over the area. "Is there anyone there?!"
All she got was silence, though an echo could be just made out in the distance. So she departed from her perch and headed in the direction of the echo. The air seemed to change when she approached, taking on that of a thick toxic mist in some strange attempt to keep people away. Not that it really had an effect on Adarnamon, having inherited her previous form's poison immunity. Not that such an immunity ever seemed to come in handy (with the lack of digimon with poison attacks and all) up until now.
Whirlwind Sting!
Adarnamon began to flap her wings even harder, creating a small cyclone below her. She sent her personal 'disaster' off and watched it slice through the poison, revealing a tunnel along with a hardcover book of sorts. It looked to be in quite good condition, considering the state everything else seemed to find itself in.
Adarnamon casually dived down and turned her attention to these leftover pieces of literature. At first glance, they weren't anything special. They were rambling of some man that had gotten hired by some place called 'Hope's Peak'. He had been hired by one 'Julie Enoshima' in order to further one of her projects. Of course, the paper never said what exactly the project was or what part this mystery person would play.
Adarnamon turned the page, only to find it filled with pictures of people wearing goofy looking headsets while a woman in a labcoat holds a knife to their necks. None of these snapshots were captioned, so Adarnamon flipped the page and took a couple steps forward.
Compared to the previous page, this one showed a whole bunch of small photos of children. Most appeared to be around the same age, with a couple of them looking more like teenagers than actual children. Though, that didn't explain the caption at the top.
Digidestined by Lauren Gostelow
She wasn't entirely sure why, but something about it seemed to bring forth unease and dread in her body. Yet, Adarnamon turned the page, finding a strange diagram listing the various lines for something. Though the last time she had checked, Agumon didn't lead into Veemon or Guilimon at all.
A page turn and a couple steps later, she found herself in a large circular room. Dull stone walls towered over her, seeming to go up into the clouds. Yet, combined with it's just as dull metal floor made for a place one wouldn't want to find themselves at.
A glass tube stood partially shattered in the middle, with gray cat hair still hanging on the sides. Lab equipment was scattered all about, having been sliced apart by an unknown creature. An exit stood towards the west and awaited use.
After examining the area, Adarnamon returned her attention to the book. Compared to the previous pages, this one contained notes on a project currently underway at the lab.
Project Chelsea: Having mastered the art of inserting animals with human brains, we have decided to take it to the next level by successfully turning a cat into an actual catgirl. Should the initial test go smoothly, we will create more catgirls and refine the process.
On the opposite page, a picture of a catgirl had been printed to show what the creature looked like. Which had been dressed in a blouse and skirt combo with a pair of heels and glasses for some reason. Though Adarnamon had to admit, it probably wasn't the weirdest thing she had seen on this journey.
For the moment, she closed the book and fluttered towards the western exit. Like the room she had just left, it too had the boring stone and metal look. At least here, they included actual working lights. How exactly they were still working was beyond her, not that she really cared at this point and opened the book back up. It was more notes, but on a different project.
Project Digital: Currently, our teams have been looking into a way of bringing more people into the digital world. Of course, those digidestined would serve the bidding of Hope's Peak and the Order as a whole.
A picture of a robot had been the only one provided. The rest of the page was blank. Adarnamon turned the page, only to do a double take.
Carinamon : The result of combining the remain of various test subjects brains all in a feathered scorpion's body. Of course, Shade was not told this fact.
If she had eaten anything recently, she would've thrown it out. Yet, she forced herself to gaze upon the page.
Aegiochusmon: An experimental golem body, believed to have been created at Mahora. Unlike most golems, it was designed for long term use by a human soul. Though, the human soul cannot be removed once inserted.
"Oh my." a voice called out as multiple eyes pierced through the light. "Intruder, you will not take our crystal!"
"Crystal?" Adarnamon responded as she dropped the book and soared up into the air.
Beautiful Gaze!
For a few brief seconds, Adarnamon's eyes changed colors as she focused on those in the distance.
Seven Song!
Adarnamon then began to sing as her feathers glowed yellow, bringing forth a sandstorm. Once she was certain that this threat had been dealt with, she flew through the tunnel and gave any stragglers a little taste of her whirlwind sting. At the end of the tunnel, she found herself in a slightly larger version of the first room. Cages of all sorts seemed to line the walls, all of which looked to have either been busted by an unknown event or torn apart by the occupants. The only source of light seemed to be coming from a large floating star-shaped crystal. Though, cracks had seemed to appear as a result of the champion's previous attacks.
"Out of all the possible meaningless creatures created here, it had to be you." a voice called out as a large turtle walked over.
"Letorramon?" Adarnamon inquired and watched the creature let out a laugh.
"Well, I haven't heard that name in a long time." the turtle responded and glared at Adarnamon. "Not that anyone here really cares for such things these days. Especially after you damaged our crystal."
Adarnamon gave her best approximation of a shrug, which was rewarded with a ball of poison from Letorramon.
Whirlwind Sting!
Adarnamon launched forth a twister, only to have it pass right through the mysterious crystal. Said crystal then began to shake about violently, letting forth a loud screeching sound.
"You idiot." Letorramon snarled as spitted on the ground. "Do you realize what you've done?"
"No?" Adarnamon answered and watched her opponent slam his flippers down.
"That crystal was the thing keeping this place together! And you just went and break it."
And then the crystal shattered, seeming to collapse in on itself as the shards attempted to scatter. The building seemed to ready to do the same as Adarnamon made her way back into the tunnel she had exited. Walls were crumbling to pieces as the floor started to give way. Yet, she continued to fly towards the exit, only to be pulled through a portal...
Notes:
This is chapter was mostly tying up some loose ends for the future. Though, it wasn't that bad to write.
.
Next Time: A murder mystery of sorts.
