Session 97

Teary Eyes

Officer EMT opened his eyes.

Gone was the vast almost empty dimensional space, having been thoughtfully replaced with the clean white interior of an order base. Even if that didn't explain how his vehicle managed to find its way in here without creating a massive hole in the wall. After giving himself a quick onceover to make sure everything was in the right place, he walked over to his vehicle and circled around.

"Phew." the troll officer thought and sighed. While a scratch or scuff mark wouldn't be the end of the world, it was quite a pain in the butt to fix. Especially when he had used up his last can to repair from that one time with Valia. "The Dark Emporium might have some."

With that now out of the way, he turned his attention back to his surroundings. Machines of some sort hammered on in the distance, unaware of their purpose snuffed out so long ago. Screams occasionally made their way over, but they were faint and rare at best. What was of note appeared to be a familiar woman fluttering her way down.

"Oh, it's you." Chacha remarked as she fluttered down. "I was kind of hoping for Fatemon or that weird-looking bird."

EMT let out a chuckle, only to get a slap in return.

"Am I really that bad?" he inquired, only to get a sigh from Chacha. But before the gyroid could answer, the faint ringing of bells echoed about the building. This was then followed by a comment that neither person could make out.

"To some extent, yes." Chacha answered and let out a sigh. "But I'm willing to work with you at this particular moment."

After she said that, Officer EMT gave a fist pump. Afterwards, the two made their way into the armored vehicle and sat themselves down in the front seats. Inside, the only real change was the dust on the leather seats and the beaded curtain missing a strand or two. Not that really bothered either passenger.

"Where too?" EMT inquired as he started the engine up and put his foot on the gas.

"Anywhere but here." Chacha answered and the vehicle headed off… right into a wall. "You really had to do that, didn't you?"

EMT gave a shrug and set the car in reverse, carefully pulling the vehicle out the imprint they had created. With vehicle now facing the other way, the two looked over their surroundings once more.

From this distance, the machines were still quite a bit off and their function still unknown to them. The other end of the building seemed just out of their gaze, with the wall appearing hazy at best. But that could just be a result of EMT's most recent crash. Yet, the troll focused his vehicle towards this far-off goal and set the cruise control on.

"Would you mind if I asked you something?" EMT inquired as he turned his attention to Chacha. Currently, the revamon was focusing her attention on repairing any damage to her clothing. Which meant a lot of needle and thread.

"Go ahead." Chacha answered as her focus continued on the threadwork.

"What was life like in Mahora before the incident?"

She poked herself with the needle. That wasn't what she intended to do, but the gyroid found herself caught off guard by it.

"Why do you of all people want to know?" Chacha accused as she glared at EMT. "What's so special about my past that you of all people deserve over Polly or Fatemon?"
She got a confused look in return, followed by a deep breath.

"I just wanted to get to know you better, that's all." EMT answered and sighed. "In that case, would you mind me talking about myself a bit?"

Chacha shrugged and returned to working on her needlework. EMT took that as a 'yes' and cleared his throat.

"When I was younger, my parents and I would take a drive around Honessa, searching for places to help. Sometimes our 'help' would be successful and help the situation. Other times, we would make things worse for everyone. Yet, we still helped people." Officer EMT explained as tears began to roll down his cheeks. "When I got my driver's license, my dad handed me the keys and his before sending me off."

Chacha gave him a glare but, chose to keep her mouth shut at that particular moment. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of her driver's story. It was probably his attempt to pass the time as they made their way towards the other side of the building. Yet, she couldn't really blame him for trying.

"A couple of hours ago, I managed to go home and had to face the music. Didn't even get to say goodbye."

Officer EMT's gaze fell to the floor, only for him to take a deep breath.

"And the moral of the story is?" Chacha asked and let out a sigh.

"There is no moral." EMT answered. "I was just opening up about myself and my family, all in the hope you would talk about your's in some capacity."

"Oh." Chacha groaned and pulled her parasol out.

Parasol Blade!

Officer EMT then ducked, managing to just dodge Chacha's parasol along with one of the nearby machines. Afterwards, he took a deep breath and stopped the car. He then got up and made his way towards the back, only to stop at a supply cabinet. Chacha only watched, her focus still primarily on clothing repair.

"I'm going to check out that machine. Want to come?" EMT inquired as he made his way towards the door. His passenger didn't answer and chose to just give a shrug instead. "Suit yourself."

But to his surprise, Chacha actually got up and joined him on this little adventure.

Things had only slightly changed outside. The northern wall was still a far-off goal, but the machines they had heard earlier were now in view. Which mostly consisted of red conveyors and large piston-like machines. Nothing seemed to be coming down this assembly line at the moment, except for some traces of hair and some drops of red to boot.

"Does this remind you of anything?" EMT inquired as silence fell over them. He let out a sigh and walked beside the conveyors until he reached one of the pistons. "Here goes nothing."

The troll pulled out what appeared to be a light blue brick and attached it to the machine. A detonation later, it's life slowly drained away and its movement slowed.

Chacha only rolled her eyes and let out a chuckle.

"I'm fairly certain there are easier ways to shut this whole thing down. " the gyroid remarked and got a smile from EMT.

"Where's the fun in that?" he joked as his gaze focused on the piston itself. At first glance, it looked quite normal. Well, deathtrap-wise. But on closer inspection, someone had taken the time to crudely carve out an approximation of the upper body. The piston after it was a similar story, the only real difference being the carving of the lower body.

"Uh…" both individuals remarked as they took their discovery in. As curious as they were to know what had happened here, their heads were already bringing forth some possibilities that would make one's lunch come up. "No thanks."

After clearing their minds of such thoughts, they got to work.

Vamptech!

What energy had been left behind by Officer EMT's initial attack made it's way to Chacha, who was probably in need of a fill-up. While she was doing that, EMT was attempting to switch back to his mech form. It was quite an interesting process to watch as each piece of the cardboard suit assembled into its specific part of the suit. When that was done, he cracked a smile of sorts.

Finale!

The troll mecha pulled his missile launcher out and fired, watching multiple missiles fire out and reduce the machinery to rubble. Yet, they couldn't leave the place like this without one more parting gift, could they?

Astral Perception!

Chacha glared intently at the rubble and smiled, watching as the giant laser came down and reduced the metal and rubber to ash.

"Whoo!" EMT announced and switched back. "We did it!"

He held his hand up, which Chacha gave a high five.

"That was your free one." she remarked as they made their back into the vehicle and headed off. "Though I guess I'll repay your favor."

"Really?" EMT inquired as Chacha let out a chuckle.

"I guess." the gyroid remarked as her driver took a deep breath. "Though, there isn't much to say."

"Sounds fair."

"I had two mothers, one a scientist that was a bit on the eccentric side. The other was a lunatic, babbling about time travel and how she was the teacher's daughter. Mind you he was ten years old and had kissed a good chunk of class." Chacha started only to take a deep breath. "Then this big tournament happens and she just disappears on me and everyone else."

Tears of some sort began to run down her face, which she chose to ignore for the moment.

"Her last words to me was that she would come back to visit. But she never did."

Officer EMT's focus turned to her, which he followed up with a hug.

"I shouldn't have asked." the troll whispered and watched his companion laugh a little.

"No, it's alright." Chacha answered as EMT let go. "After a hundred plus years, things start to lose meaning. Friends, family, knowledge, they all start to blur when you're all alone. For once in my pathetic life, I having meaning in my life. And it feels… good."

The rest of their drive passed quite smoothly, especially without the sound of the machinery in the background. The wall came not that long after, having had a plain set of oak double doors carefully placed in. Of course, they did the natural thing for this situation. Smash right on through, of course.

.

On the other side, the duo found themselves in a large room. Tan walls surrounded them while a matching floor prevented them from falling out. Six doors awaited opening, with the only other interesting things being the makeshift parking spot created for the armored vehicle and a couch for people to wait on.

EMT and Chacha sat themselves down and took a deep breath. For the moment, this would be good enough.

Notes:

Originally, this was going to be Chacha and Adarnamon, but I changed my mind.
