Session 99

A Gentlemen's Way

It is said that there are many ways to be a gentleman.

Some believe it comes in one actions, as in the case of people such as Evil TK. Of course, they had the worst reputation out of the three known groups in the Digitalverse.

Others believe that it's in the clothes, which was the case for those such as Yokozamon. Compared to the previous group, this one's reputation at least made it possible to at least interact with them peacefully.

Finally, we have those individuals who insist that it comes down to words used being what makes the man, that was what defined Gentleman to some extent. Though, this was the smallest and least talked about group in this multiverse. Especially with all that has happened to some extent. Not that it has stopped the sole member of it from claiming that they were the best at being a gentleman.

For two of these three groups, they found themselves in their greatest test.

"Ugh…" Gentleman groaned and allowed his eyes to open up. Currently, he found himself within what looked a broom closet. It was small, cramped and filled to the brim with brooms for some reason.

Very carefully, he maneuvered his way over to the door and pushed it open.

"Mister Gentleman, fancy seeing you here." a voice announced and Yokozamon walked up. "I'm guessing you got transported here too?"

Gentleman gave a nod and held his hand out.

"At the moment, we are partners in whatever mess we have found ourselves in. Shake on it?"

Yokozamon grabbed hold and the two shook hands. Afterwards, they took the sights in.

Outside of the broom closet, white tile floors and padded hallways seemed to stretch onwards to an unknown point in both directions. After looking down the hallway for a couple of seconds, they chose to head down the northern end. As they walked, voices seemed to wade their way in and attempt to do some sort of harm to them. Of course, their attempts were the typical suggestions of violence and murder that were starting to becoming a pattern within these places to some extent.

"Now now, can we at least try to settle this in a more peaceful way?" Gentleman suggested as the voices returned once more, seemingly even more pissed than before. Neither digimon was entirely sure what they had done to deserve this sort of response. "You can at least give us a response."

Still nothing. At the very least, the people in question could at least take the time out of their potential busy lives. Sort of like what the author was doing at this particular moment.

"Care to elaborate?"

No answer. Afterwards, the duo continued their way down the hall. Though, now they had their weapons out, just in case.

"Why a minigun?" Gentleman inquired and got a confused glance from his fellow gentleman.

"What do you mean?" Yokozamon responded.

"If you're supposed to be a gentleman to some extent, how does spraying down bullets allow one to do that?" Gentleman answered and got a laugh from his friend.
"There was this one guy who fought in the second world war with just a longbow and sword, Mr Gentleman." Yokozamon answered and cracked a smile. "And one can not forget about the bear who helped the Polish in that war too."

"How do you know about this stuff?" Gentleman inquired as the hallway made a slight turn and dumped them into a rectangular room.

"When Miss Alice was at some of the low level events, I would usually hang around our hotel room and read. If things went south in some capacity, I could at least mitigate the damages to some extent."

Gentleman gave a nod and the two turned their attention to the room in question.

Unlike the hallway, this room had been styled after a library. Labeless books lined its shelves as girls with strawberry blonde hair read from them. There appeared to be no end to this place, with shelves seeming to go on for quite some distance with any sort of wall supporting it or something to mark out the particular sections. Heck, the rest of this area actually looked quite empty.

Occasionally, they would look up and toss a 'spike' in their direction.

"Were you people by any chance the ones who were talking in the hall earlier?"

"Maybe." one of the girls whispered. "Travelers, what brings you to this despairing rock? Are you here to cleanse of us of our existence?"

"Cleanse your existence?" Yokozamon inquired and made a quick glance down at himself, finding the bouquet from earlier hanging at his side. "Why would we want to do that?"

"When we leave this place, we will bring about all sort of acts of terror and despair, resulting in the deaths of those worlds. Wouldn't such a fate be out of the question for people like us?" the girl answered and got a confused glance from both men.

"To speak accurately of such far out events can only come from two kinds of people. Money grubbing fools and complete idiots." Gentleman remarked and slammed his hand down on the table. "Only you are the only one who can decide your future. Not anyone else."
The girl gave them a thumbs up and returned her attention to the book, thoughts of rebellion and freedom forming in her head.

"Are you sure that was a good idea?" Yokozamon whispered as the two made their way deeper into the library.

"What do you mean?" Gentlemon answered and gave his friend a confused glance.

"For all we know, we just lit the fuse on this potential powder keg." Yokozamon countered, returning that confused glance back with a much serious one. "Waltzing around and acting like we have all the answers is not the best way to help these people, Mister Gentleman."

"Then what do you suggest, Mr Yokozamon?"

Yokozamon took a deep breath and stared towards the ground.

"I would've stayed out of their business and just let sleeping dogs lie. We are at best guests on a business trip. As a general rule, you never want to make such huge waves." the yak digimon explained as his gaze shifted back to Gentleman. "Rarely do such things work out in the way you intend them too."

Gentleman didn't answer. Instead, he chose to just roll his eyes and give a shrug. As tempting as it was to just agree with his companion at the moment, it felt counter to his own feelings. That, and it wouldn't be much of a debate between gentlemen if one side conceded after the initial argument.

"It is the job of a gentleman to empower those around them to soar far above what they believe possible." the mega countered as they moved their debate further into the library. "We must be the flint to their steel!"

"But who sharpens the steel when it becomes dull?" Yokozamon responded and pointed towards Gentleman. "Those people will just leave you in the dust eventually, all because you helped them up."
He got no counter to that, not that it was the response he wanted.

"Can we just stop this? We're not really getting anywhere."

Gentleman let out a chuckle.

"I guess."

And as quickly as their argument began, it had ended.

"There they are!" a voice called out as a spike went flying by. "Get them."

"I guess that answers the question." Yokozamon whispered and picked up his pace. Gentleman did the same, occasionally making a glance behind him to check if anyone was still following them.

Overkill!

Very carefully, Yokozamon fired back. He made sure to aim for the feet and the air around them, but that wasn't much of a guarantee in the grand scheme of things. That, and he still needed to keep up with Gentleman.

Charging Strike!

The yak dashed forth as his companion grabbed hold. A door awaited the two up ahead, with them making it through.

"Whoo!" they both announced on the other side and took a deep breath afterwards.

Outside, the Polly and the other freed people were sitting on the couch. Currently, they looked like they were playing some sort of card game, though I'm not entirely where they got the pack of cards.

"Can we join?" Yokozamon suggested and the two sat themselves down.

"I guess." Officer EMT answered and handed both of them a couple of cards.

For now, it was just a waiting game.

Notes:

Well that was something. I think.

The story about the guy fighting with a longbow and sword and the bear are actual events that happened in World War II. Which brings an interesting question: Why hasn't there been any videogames based off that?

.

Notes: Let's return to Odiaba, shall we? I suspect there's something left to be discovered...
