A/N: Alright I wasn't expecting the kind of feedback that I got from the last chapter but I can assure y'all that pet rose won't be some kind of fucked up misery or 50 shades of grey story where Jaune is a psycho. I'll just say that he's a yandere except there's not going to be any one to stand in his way, but just people that Jaune has to avoid. So yeah I'm just bringing a beauty and the beast vibe that will have some flashbacks and fluffy lemons.
Ruby was scared at the moment, completely terrified by the situation she's in.
'Why did Jaune do this to me? Has he always been like this?'
Beacon academy: 3 years ago
It was almost the end of the first year for all the students at Beacon, a great achievement for the freshmen that managed to survive their first year. Teams RWBY and JNPR were currently in their last class and were begging for the final bell to ring. Luckily for them, while Port was giving one of his God awful stories that didn't help the students but rather substituted the subject as a nap class, he was called outside for an unknown reason.
"Alright class, despite this rather poorly timed interruption taking me away from sharing my vast knowledge from you all young huntsman, and huntresses" He said with another wink to Yang that she would never get used to.
"That doesn't mean you should interrupt your own studies with any other nonsense distractions, I might be out until the end of the period so remember, stay vigilant!" He ended walking out of the class with high hopes that his students would get back to work. Only if he was an interesting teacher they might have, hadn't it been for the time Weiss took on a Boarbatusk in the middle of class, others would've considered the class a boring one and might skip. But I digress.
RWBY and JNPR had immediately forgotten Port's suggestion and got out their desk to converse with each other, afterwards the whole class was filled with chatter amongst friends. Every one was talking with their preferred friend, Blake with Ren, Pyrrha with Weiss, Yang with Nora, and Ruby with... Nobody. She wanted to talk to Jaune since he was her best friend, but he was still at his desk looking down with his lonesome.
'What's wrong with Jaune? I remember when he was feeling like a failure but he looks sad'
"Hey Yang, does Jaune look, ok to you?" Ruby asked with concern.
Yang turned from her talk with Nora to hear her sister.
"He does look down, but I wouldn't worry about it. Why do you ask? Does my baby sister have a crush perhaps~?"
Ruby blushed at the thought of her and Jaune together.
"N-no I'm just s-saying that maybe... You know he.. Looks sad." Ruby said while standing out of her desk.
"Well then go talk to that dork baby sis." Yang retorted by shoving Ruby closer to Jaune's desk where he looked up to see her stumble her way.
"No, Yang...what are you... I'm not... Ugh." She stuttered with an angry groan.
She turned her head to see Jaune's gaze returning her's. Silver orbs looked at blue ones as Ruby tried to think of something to say.
"...Hey Jaune." Was her only greeting, a weak one at that.
"Hey Ruby..." He replied awkwardly as she did.
"So uh... couldn't help but see you we're looking down, well I mean you were looking down with your head facing down but, like, you were looking sad..."
'Save me from this socialism hell'
"Thanks for noticing Rubes, but you don't have to come over here."
"Nonsense, you looked sad and I wanna know why." She said adorably while pulling up a chair to sit beside him.
'It's like everything she does is cute.'
"Oh that, umm, no need to worry about me. I'm fine see?" He said as he gave her a fake smile and finally made eye contact.
"Jaune..." Ruby said seriously while putting a hand on his shoulder.
"You know if you have problems you can talk to your friends. Are you feeling like a failure again?"
Jaune looked down after hearing her words. It's true he's still having personal problems but sometimes friends just can't help every issue out ya know? But it's still worth a shot to tell her, maybe she'll take the hint...
"It's not really about me right now... It's someone else." He said returning to looking down at his desk.
"Is it... Girl problems?" She asked
Jaune blushed and widened his eyes after Ruby said that. This wasn't going as smooth as he though it would but it was getting kinda easy.
"It is actually, but it's not Weiss anymore... Let's just say, there's a certain redhead that I want to notice me... But I'm having problems to get her attention right now.." Jaune replied hoping that she'll take the clue.
"Don't worry about attention I'd say, if you want her to know how you feel honestly then just be straightforward. Don't be fake with all the guitar songs or flowers, nothing can be wrong if it's how you actually feel about Pyrrha."
"Well if you think that'll hel-... Pyrrha?" He thought twice at what she said last.
"Yeah, Pyrrhas really nice and I'm sure she'll understand how ya feel. To be honest I think she already feels the same way, just confess to her and that might work. I'm kinda going through the same thing myself hehe." Ruby said with a smile.
Jaune couldn't believe all this. It felt like his one shot of letting her know was destroyed, crumbled up her too. Not only did she not pick up on his hints and think he had feelings for Pyrrha, but she has feelings for somebody else. It really did feel like getting stabbed in the heart, because that was the only feeling. Pain. Like his chest was pierced and all he could do was sit there and cry, on the inside though.
'She thinks I like Pyrrha...and she likes someone else? I think I'm gonna be sick'
"Hello? Remnant to Jaune? You there?" Ruby asked while snapping her fingers in his face.
Jaune gained his composure shortly after and looked back at... her. Her face that always made him happy. Now it's the one that broke his heart.
"Oh um, what?" He asked weakly
Ruby rolled her eyes at his confusion.
"I said, does that help you right now?"
It didn't, it only made things worse
"Yeah thanks Ruby, thanks a lot..." He held back a sob.
She smiled at him, oh that smile...
"Great! Glad to help out!" Almost as she finished, the bell rang.
"Let's get to lunch Jaune." And before he could say anything, she ran off with everyone.
Leaving him in the dust of his woes.
