Been quite the journey, and thanks to all who gave a damn to stick around to see it. But the Pet Rose mini series within a series is done. I've been putting this off so I can finish my other stories (which you should read) and I'd be able to come back here with nothing else bouncing around in my mind. I've also had a lot of other ideas for this fic and other scenarios with this ship, but the Pet Rose story kept bugging me, so I just had to get it over with.
Apologies to anyone wanting more in this anthology series, seeing how I've made 7 chapters for this mini story but you'll be relieved to see it end.
It had been roughly two and a half months since Ruby and Jaune's moment in his work building, and things have been much better. For starters, Ruby no longer needed any supervision, able to walk around the large house freely as she pleased. While Jaune never needed to ask or tease Ruby into having sex, as she'd do it on her accord, making it much better when he didn't have to convince her.

The two were currently on a couch in one of his living rooms, snuggling under a blanket and watching a movie. Ruby couldn't have felt more in place than she had in a while, across his broad chest and being held tight by his strong arms. But halfway into it, they heard the doorbell ring. It put them in alarm, realizing what it meant. She'd have to hide, again. As much as she loved this new life, she hadn't forgotten her old one. It took a while but Ruby was able to accept it, checking the facts and figuring it wasn't bad.
She never loved being a huntress, but the idea of it. Having the false pretense that it was a job of pure freedom and exciting fun, but how wrong she was. She never got to ask for jobs or take up whatever she wanted on her own time like the vigilante heroes she idolized, but had to be asked, technically. She was given quests and missions, regardless if she liked it or not. Payment was never negotiable, same with methods. Some would require her to use certain munitions she didn't know of, or she'd have to use stealth at night which was more in Blake's league than hers. All in all, the career of a huntress was more than she liked. Which was why she was glad to be engaged before all this, to be a house wife instead of something she cherished as a naive teen.
As for her family, she felt like there may have been a bit of a snag. She was barely in contact with her father to being with, as soon as she left to Beacon in the first place they rarely spoke to one another. He preferred to speak face to face instead, but that didn't stop him from wanting to call a number that no longer existed and getting suspicious. For Yang, whom became a fully fledged huntress, was probably business with said career. A bit disappointed when Ruby told her she quit with the idea, but still supportive of whatever else she chose in life.
Regardless of it all, she still could've been declared missing by her now ex fiance, Sun... Sun, she remembered him. Remembered all the good things and how they were all a bit physical and relatable. But never emotional when she thought about it. She could relate to him and see a bit of herself within him, but never saw something that initially drew her in in terms of attraction or even romance. He was a good flirt, and made her heart flutter when he spoke. But she never found herself truly in love with him, not the way she was with Jaune at least. She thought of this as she hid herself more in the blanket, assuming whoever it was wouldn't come in but it didn't hurt to hide.
But of course, just as her thoughts are on him...
"Sun?" Jaune asked, loud enough for Ruby to hear. Her breath stopped for a second as she realized it was him. She figured Sun would've given up by now, at least hope so.
"Hey Jaune... So, things haven't been too good. I've been asking around but nobody still knows where Ruby is. Just when I thought I'd call the police, I had to think of all reasons.
"Oh?" Jaune said, gaining an interest to why Sun wasn't panicked as he imagined. As much as he secretly hated him,
"I thought of all reasons as to why she might've been kidnapped or murdered or anything. But you know Ruby, too strong and unable to get snatched by anyone on the streets... And I began to think on why she might've left on her own. I feel like it was my fault, and I knew why but didn't do anything to change." He said, sighing after.
"What do you mean?"
"Something Blake told me when I fist met her back in Vale, why it wouldn't really work out with me and her when I had a crush on her. She said I was a cool guy and sweet, and I only wanted the best between us... But I was just too obnoxious. Too fast and high energy, too much for one person. And I feel like that was true when I asked Ruby to marry me so quick, we weren't together all that long and I tend to forget she was much younger than me... So I decided to call it off. She won't call or anything, so it's kinda telling." He explained.
Jaune just did his best to not furrow his brow, disgusted from what he heard. While Sun may be right about his faults, the fact he gave up looking on his fiance without even calling the police was hideous to his ears. Only after two months he was ready to stop? It made him sick to his stomach. He wished he could tell Sun so but he'd risk him knowing what really happened with Ruby.
"Right, well I guess it was just good to give up before letting it haunt you forever... Probably for the best." He said, that last part with a hint of anger. But, it didn't go unheard by Sun.
"What? What do you mean?" He said, shooting Jaune an annoyed look.
"Just saying, it's best to know the facts. I never truly believed you two were good for each other. Maybe she just realized it is all." Venom in his tone, unable to hide his distaste in Sun's reaction.
"Hey... We were great. We could've... Just been better, but that doesn't mean anything!" He stammered, finding it hard to defend himself. Jaune decided to retort before slamming the door, hoping it'd be the nail in the coffin to this conversation.
"Face it, she's not coming back! I'd say Ruby knew what was good for her and chose someone better!" He was about to close the door, but as soon as the last word left his mouth, Sun lunged at him. Tackled onto the floor and pinning him down, he began punching at him while Jaune did his best to block his face. He may have left behind the huntsman career but he never forgot the training, doing his best to retaliate.
Meanwhile, Ruby was hearing it all. The conversation, and the commotion followed. She had been fuming upon hearing her ex fiance's words and reaction to her going missing. She had learned to accept it through time, yes, but the mere fact he barely tried showed just how much he loved her. Which paled in comparison to how much Jaune did. But her anger was replaced with panic as she heard the boy fighting, her whereabouts be damned she had to go be there. She came to the where she heard them and saw Sun's arm wrapped around Jaune, a sleeper hold. While Jaune did his best to escape.
"Take back what you said about my Ruby! You don't know what it's like since nobody at Beacon loved you!" He hollered as Jaune gasped and choked.
"Sun!" The shout of his name from a feminine voice caused them both to stop, Sun looking to his side and finding Ruby. He immediately dropped Jaune and made a beeline to her, placing his hands on her shoulders.
"Oh my God, Rubes are you okay? What did he do to you? Don't worry we'll call the cops an-"
"No." She sternly said, not meeting his gaze as she shook herself free from his grasp. It shocked him to say the least.
"Sun, you really didn't so anything after I was gone... You seriously were just going to give up like that?" She asked, her questioning more rhetoric than genuine. Sun found himself verbally cornered.
"W-well, I uh... Didn't know what to do and-"
"Try harder! God, I was wrong to have chosen you... But I've found Jaune to be a much better man, someone who loves me and doesn't rush things so quick." Her wording wasn't what she wanted it to be, speaking more or less what she thought on him rather than what was wrong about their former relationship. But the point was clear, and she knew Sun got the message.
Without a word, she walked over to Jaune and helped him up, cradling his head in her arms.
"I think it's best you left, we're over Sun." She said, checking Jaune for anymore injuries. Despite the pain, he was able to smile happily from the independent actions of Ruby, only having to stay and watch as his means of courting actually worked. He was finally with the girl of his dreams, heart and soul. Sun just stood and stared in shock, until he looked away and just left. Not without slamming the door of course.
"You okay?" She asked with a gentle voice, her hands cupping his face. Jaune just smiled and kissed her, standing straight up and pulling her in.
"I'm better now?" He said as they pulled back, looking at the floor as there was some shine that caught his eye. He walked over to it and bent down on a knee to get a closer look. As he did, he picked up whatever object it was and saw it more clearly.
It was a shiny ring with a gem within it. It must've fallen off Sun during their scuffle.
He turned to Ruby and she saw, a quick gasp escaping her mouth when she saw it as well. Thinking quick, Jaune held it up to present it to Ruby.
"Ruby...? Would you be my wife?" He asked, looking her in the eyes. Ruby found her own tearing up as a smile was on her face.
"Yes!" She practically screamed, Jaune stood with his own teary eyes before embracing his now fiance. Needless to say, things were going to change more than they ever had.
It took about a month of planning, purchasing, and preparing. But thanks to Jaune's wealth and Ruby's brains, the young couple were able to make a fantastic wedding happen.
They went a bit traditional, typical church and inviting the families. This was a bit of a risk as they didn't know what Ruby's family members would've thought of her going awol and reappearing with an old friend to marry. But to their surprise, none in her small family even knew of her little missing era.
Apparently Sun never told anyone about her going missing, just asking where she was and leaving it there... It was a guaranteed ban on the monkey faunas to their wedding.

When I started Lancaster Collection it was more of an homage to the classic ways of RWBY fanfics I've seen back in the day before the show went mainstream and was more of a Rooster Teeth show only the long time fans knew about. And as I've said before, it feels like a lot of classic legends have become just that, legends. Faded into the void of the unknown and never to update their stories or profiles again. But back then there were lots of stories like this where it was a collection of ficlits for particular ships, something I haven't really seen in a while. Even for some of the shitty new ships that have come up.
Now of course, Lancaster was my true OTP since I even began watching the show, and still is one of my all time favourites. And then down the line I met the love of my life and she introduced me to Gelato and how it continues to be a sentimental and significant part of my love for RWBY with a lot of history, which is how I kinda fell off the Lancaster road for a while.
And to be honest I'm not sure what else I'll have for this story, as I've been rendered to a typical smut writer (as you can tell from these past chapters) mainly because I've lost my main motivation and inspiration ever since my heart wrenching and sanity deteriorating breakup, leaving me to write easy porn as a cop out. But it's better than nothing I suppose.
Anyway, I might comeback to this story when vol 7 debuts and hopefully Lancaster has a bigger chance of coming true. Because honestly, as much as I have some favoured ships for these characters, I don't really hope for any of them to actually be canon except for Gelato and Lancaster. But we'll just see what happens.
