Chapter 36
After getting to the grass of the mountain, they find that there are two Pokemon who are waiting for them. One is an Alolan Dugtrio, and the other one is a Metagross. Ash says, "What the..."
"Unbelievable! They are not the normal size of either Dugtrio or Metagross..." Molayne gasps.
Just then, the two of them notice Ash and Lillie as the orange aura activates, causing their defenses to raise, and Lillie says, "They are Totem Pokemon?!"
"But I know for sure how strong Metagross is..." Ash says as he goes with Wishiwashi while Lillie goes with Garchomp. Metagross goes with Bullet Punch, causing some of the Wishiwashi to fall off to the ground.
"Calm down, Wishiwashi, use Hydro Pump!" Ash yells as Wishiwashi attacks the Dugtrio, which is super effective.
"Garchomp, Stone Edge!" Lillie yells, and the Rock attack doesn't seem to do that much damage on Metagross. "Then use Crunch."
Garchomp bites at the Pokemon, but Dugtrio goes for the Earthquake to knock it back to the ground. Just then, they yell as a Diglett and a Beldum appear, and Molayne says, "Totem Pokemon's calling for help is here..."
"Damn it...now we have 2 more to defeat..." Lillie says. "But it is a good thing that Beldum can only learn Take Down."
After a while, all of the Pokemon are getting tired. Ash turns to Lillie, who nods as they activate both Water and Rock Type Z Crystals.
"Use Hydro Vortex!/Continential Crush!" Ash and Lillie yell after doing their respective dance. And the giant boulder along with the cyclone causes both Pokemon to get crashed or got dragged into it, in the end, all four Pokemon faint at the same time.
"That was tiring..." Ash says while sitting down.
"I know...we have already fought a lot of Steel Type Pokemon today..." Lillie mutters.
Metagross and Dugtrio walk towards the two and they take out 2 Z Crystals, much to their surprise. "That's a Steelium Z." Molayne says.
Ash and Lillie take the Z Crystals and reach their hands to the air, "We got the Steelium Z!"
After that, the Totem Pokemon leave, and Molayne says, "Well, you know how to do the dance after seeing me used it, but I never knew there would be another trial here in Mount Hokulani..."
"Yeah...I start to wonder if those Totem Pokemon only appear to those who they trust?" Ash asks.
"Anyway, maybe you should take a rest before challenging the Electric one. After all, that Steel one must be very hard." Molayne says. "I'll get back to the observatory and told my cousin about this."
After that, he leaves, and Ash and Lillie decide to train their Pokemon as well as capture some new ones. They manage to evolve Tentacool into Tentacruel, Magnemite into Magneton, Magby into a Magmar, Barboach to Whiscash, Bagon to Shelgon, Cranidos to Rampardos, Shieldon to Bastiodon, and then Mudbray to Mudsdale, and Wimpod to Golisopod.
Rotom Dex says, "Golisopod, the Hard Scale Pokémon. A Bug and Water type. The shell on its body is as hard as a diamond. Its most powerful weapons are its claws, which it can extend and retract at will."
"Golisopod seems strong." Lillie says.
"Yeah, with that First Impression..." Ash adds.
For the new Pokemon, Lillie captures a Clefairy, as she still hates the fact that her mother evolves it into a Clefable. But they also notice a Pokemon that they are surprised to see.
"Rotom, what is that Pokemon?" Ash asks after seeing the meteorite like Pokemon.
"Leave it to me. Minior, the Meteor Pokémon. A Rock and Flying type. Minior has a heavy, hard shell and an internal core. After it sheds its shell, it becomes very light."
Lillie says, "They are so colorful... I mean, there are 8 kinds of form, with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, purple, and black..."
Ash nods as he captures the one with the blue color, and after that, they get back to the observatory as they are going to challenge the Electric trial. They head into the observatory and they see a lot of boxes on the ground as they enter a room.
Inside the room, they see a boy and a Togedemaru by his side playing games. Ash asks, "Are you the Trial captain?"
The boy stops playing and he says, "You're getting close to your goal... I imagine that you must have come here to attempt the trial, huh? So...Uh...Let's get started."
"Wait, are we doing it right here right now?" Lillie asks.
"Yeah, well. Have you seen the Charjabug?" Sophocles asks.
"Charjabug?" Ash and Lillie are confused, and Sophocles says, "Oh, I guess it is their dinner time. The Charjabug are real gluttons, you know. The Charjabug help me out with my trial, so can you go get them all for me? I'll have to get everything else ready while you do that... I'm gonna have to get Togedemaru's help, too. That'll be my first time testing it... S-so it would be a huge help if you would go call all the Charjabug for me!"
"Sure." Ash says as both he and Lillie go out of the observatory to find Molayne with Charjabug.
"There you are! The Charjabug are all fed and happy!" Molayne says, "But I'm counting six! They're not all here yet. I'm sorry, Ash and Lillie, but do you think you could go find the remaining Charjabug? We're only missing three. They should still be eating in that empty lot by the bus station.
"Fine." Ash and Lillie says as they search all around Mount Hokulani, they finally find the remaining three. "Thanks for the help in finding it, Ash and Lillie! Now, we should get back to Sophocles. No doubt he's been craning his neck like an Exeggutor waiting for us!"
"Yeah..." Ash and Lillie say as they enter the observatory, and Sophocles says, "You gathered those Charjabug quickly... I knew there was something special about you. So, over there... That's the room where we have the trial."
They enter the room to see a machine on the table. Molayne says, "Onejabug, Twojabug, and Threejabug are all on board the Roller... Yes! We should be ready for them to lend us their electricity, eh, Soffy?"
They also notice that Togedemaru and Charjabug are getting along with Pikachu, much to the mouse's frustration. "Togedemaru and Charjabug get along very well. We use Togedemaru's Ability, Lightning Rod, to absorb any sudden surges from Charjabug so we don't get zapped! Oh, and by the way, we gave Togedemaru a nickname–Togemaru."
"That's nice." Ash says. "So what are we going to do with the trial?"
"You summon the Totem Pokémon and prove your strength to it... That's what every trial boils down to, right?" Sophocles says. "So I thought... Why not just call the totem here from the start? So I tried a bit of this and that, and I think I've whipped up a little device to call the Totem Pokémon. Perhaps you're wondering why I built a machine? Here at the observatory, we also monitor sounds that we detect from outer space. There are some sounds that are inaudible to people but Pokémon can hear just fine. We broadcast the sounds we have gathered terrestrially and monitor the reactions of Pokémon. The machine that summons the Totem Pokémon makes use of this technology... Utilizing other sounds we have gathered, we also developed a security system here... But that was actually Big Mo's invention. Just so you know... This will actually be my first time trying it out, so I'm glad you came. I needed a test subject."
"Great, he was just like Clemont..." Lillie mutters.
"First, you need to connect the Charjabug that are on the Roller." Sophocles says, "We'll use the electricity from the Charjabug to power up the machine... That should let us call the Totem Pokémon. Use the four buttons on the edges of the Roller to rotate the panels, and connect the Charjabug in a line. You don't need to worry about which way the Charjabug are facing, so long as they're connected in a line. Let me summarize. We connect the Charjabug to summon the Totem Pokémon, which you will hopefully defeat. Also, as a side note, this is the first time we're using the two machines, the Roller and the Pinger. So let's get this trial going, OK? My trial is about to begin!"
As the trial starts, they start to place the Charjabug, and after finishing placing, Sophocles says, "Now we're ready to power up the Pinger!"
As he presses the button, the machine is working as Sophocles says, "Yes... It's working... The electricity from the linked Charjabug is moving along the cable..."
As the machine glows, Sophocles adds, "It's actually working... The Pinger is getting a good dose of power! Now...the Totem Pokémon should be here any minute!"
But just then, the lights go out as Ash asks, "Is that supposed to happen?"
"Gyargh?! No way! Did I blow a fuse?! Oww! Did the door close?! Let's see, we'll need to turn off the security system to get the door open... You'll have to pass an audio quiz! I-it's fine. I definitely feel a powerful presence. It's coming now. The Totem Pokémon is coming. So let's get this trial going, OK?" Sophocles says.
"In order to open the door, please respond to the following audio quiz. What sound do you hear?" As the sound appears, Lillie says, "I think I know this sound, it is from the Pokemon Center."
"Correct! Opening door!" Just then, the door opens and the lights also turn on, and much to their surprise, a Grubin and an Elekid are now standing in front of them, Sophocles says, "Whoa! As soon as the door opened, two Pokémon came through! I'm counting on you, Ash and Lillie!"
Ash and Lillie battle the two Pokemon and then they go for Magmar and Krookodile to battle the two Pokemon, and in the end, they are both defeated.
"I knew you could do it, Ash and Lillie! Oh, and just when I said it, the door closed again!" Sophocles says. "I think one row of Charjabug isn't giving it enough electricity... If that's the case, all we need to do is add another circuit!"
Ash and Lillie sigh as they know this is going to be a long time.
I'll end the chapter here as they already have a Steel Type trial, in the next chapter will be the conclusion of the electric trial. As you can see, I am trying to combine the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon with Sun and Moon trials, and I hope you like it.
