Happy Family
Draco was undeserving of happiness.
This had been his way of thinking well into his mid-twenties. And, yes, he still thought this way occasionally when the nightmares came back full force, or worse when Hermione's nightmares woke him up in the dead of the night. He supposed that these thoughts would never go away. It was something he'd have to live with for the rest of his life, but with time he learned to cope and simply live.
Of course, this changed outlook on life didn't happen on its own. No, Hermione had catapulted into his life and spun it upside down. She was strong and determined and willing to look past his mistakes. She was able to accept him for who he was, despite Draco's reputation. There was really no other choice than to marry her. So he did exactly that; had a baby with her and everything.
Hermione and Scorpius gave him more happiness than he thought possible. Especially on days like this one.
"This is going better than I expected," Hermione exclaimed during breakfast, gently lifting the plastic spoon filled with baby food towards Scorpius' mouth. The pair had been worried about his reaction to baby food as he was about the right months to start feeding him mushy meals. Scorpius babbled incoherently before opening his mouth. "Good boy," she murmured, dabbing a cloth on Scorpius' cheeks.
"Well, he is my child," Draco drawled, smirking when Hermione gave him an unamused look.
"Doubt it. His behavior is all me," she retorted, scooping more baby food. She had just lifted the spoon in Scorpius' direction when the baby boy reached forward and knocked the spoon out of Hermione's hand. The baby food went flying and hit Hermione in the face. She recoiled, arms flailing and her cup of fruit punch spilled all over the table.
There was a moment of silence before Scorpius clapped his hands happily and Draco burst out in laughter. He clutched his stomach and could barely contain himself when Hermione snapped at him to stop.
"Yes, it's going swimmingly," he teased, enjoying the way the color red spread on Hermione's cheeks.
"Yes, yes, have a good laugh," Hermione replied sarcastically, reaching for a napkin and rubbed it on her cheek. She scrunched up her face and pulled out her wand to clean the bigger mess on the table. The juice stains disappearing nicely and the table looked pristine. It honestly looked cleaner than it had before. Draco placed a hand on the table and commented on how it was cleaner than when Hermione cleaned. She sent him a rather piercing glare but the smile on her lips said otherwise.
Draco looked fondly at his family and smiled unabashedly. He congratulated Scorpius and the boy smiled wide, unknowing of the mini disaster he had caused. Hermione rolled her eyes at Draco and placed her hand on top of his. She lightly squeezed his hand and lightly scolded Scorpius while battling a case of the giggles. This kind of happiness was better than Draco ever imagined he'd have.
