Two days later, as planned, they reached Takigakure in the dead of night. Minoru and Sasuke perched high on the tree tops for surveillance.
"Like we discussed," Sasuke whispered next to Minoru, "I'll cover you. Although…I'm unsure where it is exactly you should aim for."
Minoru took out his sketchbook and flipped to a page with a wasp on it. Sasuke watched him curiously as the wasp materialized and buzzed in between them, "No one fucks with a wasp," Minoru whispered with a grin. He closed his eyes as the wasp buzzed away.
Sasuke continued watching Minoru with curiosity, and quirked a brow when illuminated eyes opened.
"The second floor is guarded," Minoru whispered, "Five guards." He narrowed his eyes, "There's five – no – seven guards on the grounds."
"What else do you see?" Sasuke whispered and watched as Minoru closed his eyes again.
Minoru looked at Sasuke, "We should be okay." The wasp came back, gingerly landing on the sketchbook and fused back into the page, "There shouldn't be any issues." The plan was to get in and get out, it was simple enough and nothing that either of them haven't done before. On paper, it was a stealth mission. No witnesses.
Sasuke considered the younger man for a moment, "Will the dark be an issue?"
Minoru smirked at the curious tone, "It won't be. I can see in the dark."
Sasuke smirked back, "I see why you volunteered to go in then."
Minoru gave the older man a nod and they soundlessly spread out. They maneuvered through the trees, Minoru hopped onto the rooftop, and silently swung himself over the ledge. He waited a moment before peering into the dark window and slowly pried it open. He slipped inside and scanned the room. His memory served him about the two guards outside in the hallway. He could hear them talking to each other. He soundlessly moved to the desk, and took out his lock picks. He instinctively looked at the door when he heard one of the guards move. He waited before continuing. He slowly slid the drawer open, and didn't find what he was looking for. He tried another drawer. Then another. On his fourth try he found what he was looking for. He carefully rolled up the documents and slipped them into his pouch. He silently locked the drawers and froze when he heard a third voice join the two outside in the hallway. He waited and glanced over to the window he came in through. He moved, slipped back out the window and slowly closed it. Just as he was about to pull himself up, he heard the door inside the room he just left open. He could hear the footsteps move in and around the office, pause, and then leave. He furrowed his brows and pulled himself up onto the rooftop before disappearing back into the nearby trees.
Minoru scanned the trees and found Sasuke nearby, looking down at the building. The older man glanced his way, and then back down. He followed his gaze. Sasuke was suddenly right next to him.
"There's three guards missing."
"What do you mean?"
"We counted twelve," Sasuke whispered back, "There's nine. If they slipped away…"
"They know –"
They both looked up at the telltale creak of a branch and dispersed. They created distance between them. Minoru dodge a kunai and mentally cursed, in the back of his mind he trying to figure out just exactly went wrong. Sasuke appeared in his peripheral and he looked over to him. The older man turned in midair and threw three kunai at the nin that was chasing him, striking him in the heart, neck, and chest. Something happened, and Minoru watched in horror as an air jutsu hit Sasuke square in the chest with so much force, it propelled him downward. The speed at which it threw Sasuke to the ground was unfathomable. Minoru hit the ground next to him in crouching position noticing how the Uchiha winced.
"I think it's broken," Sasuke said calmly, clutching his left arm. Minoru furrowed his brows at him.
Minoru noticed the subtle shift in Sasuke's gaze. His own shifted over the older man's shoulder, scanning the shadows in the trees.
"We're surrounded."
"I know," Minoru whispered back, "Stay down." Sasuke gave him a sharp look as he stood up. The nins seemed to have materialized out of the shadows, the dim moonlight gave way to obscured faces framed by hitai ates.
"Look," one of the nins spoke up, "Just give back what you took, and there won't be any issues." He grinned and gestured to Sasuke, "He's already hurt, let's not make matters worse."
Minoru slowly turned to face the one that was speaking, using the opportunity to take count. All the guards were there.
The nins didn't see the kunai coming at them. Sasuke barely caught the motion. And no one would have seen the tiny paper kunai anyway, let alone expect them to materialize and become embedded into flesh. And with that, Minoru drained them. Every single one. All eleven of them. It was only with the aid of the Sharingan that Sasuke was able to see it, the flow of the chakra that seamlessly merged with Minoru's. The bodies thudded softly when they lifelessly hit the forest grounds. Everything stilled.
Sasuke slowly stood and looked at the bodies lying motionlessly on the ground. His gaze moved back to Minoru when he felt a subtle shift in the air. The chakra was gone.
Minoru's skin prickled as he slowly looked around at the nin laying lifeless on the forest ground. A dull feeling began to sit in but he had to push it away and burry it. He was still on a mission and he couldn't let that cloud his mind and possibly jeopardize the mission. He turned to look at Sasuke who was already looking straight at him, "We need to go."
Sasuke didn't say anything, but he noticed. He noticed the glow in the normally dark eyes. The subtle change in his tone of voice and demeanor. How he masked his emotions in a way that competed with his former sensei. How the whole way back to the village Minoru didn't say another word.
"Come in," Kakashi called out when he heard a knock at his door, and closed a file he was reading. He smiled under his mask when Minoru walked in, "Ah, you're back sooner than I thought." He eyed his son when noticed something seemed off, "How did it go?"
Minoru sighed and nodded, his hand going into his pouch to retrieve the documents that were obtained along with his report. He hesitated, "I…," he sighed, "You're going to read it in the report, but…there was a situation."
Kakashi furrowed a silver brow questioningly, "What do you mean? What kind of situation?"
Minoru looked at his dad and then down at the scrolls in his hands, "We found ourselves surrounded. Sasuke was injured – broken arm – he's actually at the hospital getting mended," he looked back at his dad, "I didn't have much of a choice. I drained them."
Kakashi stood from behind his desk and moved closer, his eyes on Minoru, "Them? How many?"
Minoru swallowed, "Eleven." Kakashi pulled down his mask, confirming the look of concern he knew was there, "I'm fine –"
"Minoru –"
"Dad, I'm fine," Minoru reassured gently, and offered a smile, "It…had to be done."
Kakashi wasn't convinced, and the forced smile his son was offering him didn't help, "Are you okay?"
Minoru hesitated. He knew he wasn't asking if he was physically okay, "I'll be okay."
Kakashi took in a slow deep breath, "Eleven?" Minoru nodded, "At once?" Another nod.
"I'll be okay," Minoru repeated, and handed over the scrolls. He hesitated for a moment, "Is Naruto back?"
Kakashi couldn't help the half smile that tugged on the corner of his lips, "Yeah, he got back a couple of days ago." Minoru seemed to have relaxed at that, "Minoru," dark eyes looked at him, "Just remember that we're here." The midnight blue eyes flickered at him at that, and it was the only reassurance he needed.
Minoru smiled and nodded, "I know."
Kakashi nodded, pulling up his mask, and watched as Minoru took his leave. He let out a sigh and mentally nodded at himself, He'll be okay.
Minoru took to the rooftops on his way home. The moment he stepped into their apartment he felt himself starting to relax. He took off and hung his flak jacket, slipped off his sandals and undid his hitai-ate before moving to the living room. A smile tugged on his lips when he found Naruto lounging on the couch, reading one of his favorite books. The older man sat up at the sight of him, a bright smile on his lips.
"Hey! You're back!" Naruto set down his book on the coffee table and his smile faltered when dark eyes flickered at him. He stood from the couch and closed the distance between, "What's wrong?"
The concerned tone and equally concerned eyes undid something within Minoru and he found himself swallowing through a lump that rose in his throat, "I – there was a situation," he started, averting his gaze, "We were surrounded, Sasuke was injured and – I didn't – " he shook his head, "I didn't have much of a choice. I drained them…all eleven of them."
Naruto's eyes widened and midnight blue eyes met his, "Are you okay?"
Minoru nodded, feeling the flickering in his eyes, "I'm fine – I feel perfectly fine – we can do a treatment if you want – but right now – " his voice cracked and Naruto gave him a look of understanding. That fond smile that always touched his heart, "Right now…I…"
Naruto moved closer, noticing how the younger man was holding back. Noticing the glow that started to take over the in his eyes. He brushed his fingers on a pale cheek, cupping his jaw, dark lashes drifted closed at his touch. Minoru leaned into it, relaxed into it. "Whatever you need…" he said softly, tracing his thumb along the younger man's bottom lip, and glowing eyes opened to look at him.
"You," Minoru said bit hoarsely and pulled the older man in into a hard kiss. He breathed out sharply through his nose when an arm wrapped around his waist and pulled him closer, the hand on his jaw moving to thread into his hair. The knot that was in my stomach came undone and he became lost in Naruto – his touches, his mouth, his smell. He pulled away enough to allow Naruto to tug off his shirt, and lips moved to his neck – to that spot that always made pleasant shivers course through him. He found himself being lifted and his legs wrapped around the older man's waist. His back met the bed and he arched towards Naruto when their pelvises came flush, "Naruto," he breathed out, rocking his hips, flushing when the older man grinned down at him.
Naruto leaned back, his eyes roaming over his panting husband as his hands undid the pants and leg wrapping Minoru was still wearing. Slender hips lifted and he tug them off, glowing eyes locked with his as the younger man sat up and pulled off his shirt, lips moving to kiss his chest before moving lower. He groaned as hands tugged down the sweatpants he was wearing and took his erection into a loose grip, "Minoru," he moaned out and illuminated eyes looked back up at him, a playful grin playing on the younger man's lips. He leaned forward, groaning when pale legs spreading invitingly for him. He could feel it, the tension in the younger man's body. He could feel that Minoru was holding back.
The only warning that Minoru got was a sly sideways look from the cerulean eyes. His breath hitched when he felt it, when Naruto switched on the link between them. It was enough to make his body flush, to make him arch his head back, and make his erection twitch with want, "Na-ruto –," he broke off with a moan. All he could focus on were those hands that slid over his hips, their tender touches leaving goosebumps in their wake. All he could focus on was that mouth that sealed over his. He gasped against Naruto's mouth when slick fingers traced his entrance and slowly pushed in, "Naruto," he moaned out, rocking his hips wantonly and cursed when those fingers sought out his prostate, "Na-ruto – I –"
Whatever it was that Minoru was going to say was lost in moans. Naruto exhaled sharply and flushed hotter when a hand found purchase on one of his shoulders its pair tangling itself in sheets. He withdrew his fingers and slicked his erection, groaning as slender hips shifted closer and a leg hooked over his hip. He found himself being rolled over and Minoru grounding down his hips and setting a heated pace. He watched him as if in a trance, and Illuminated eyes watched him back. He raised his knees for leverage and thrust his hips sharply into him with perfect aim, earning him a cry of pleasure, "Gods –."
Minoru reached for himself but a sun kissed hand beat him to it and took him into a firm grip, stroking him in time with their rhythm. "Na-ruto -," a heat washed over him and gathered at the pit of his stomach. The hand on his hip slid along his flank in such a tender caress that contrasted their heated rhythm. And the breathless loving smile that graced his husband's face made his already frantic heart skip a beat. "I - ," he was cut off as his orgasm nearly took him by surprise. His thighs tensing along Naruto's flanks. The hand on his flank pulled him closer.
Naruto's rhythm faltered and lips sealed over his, swallowing his low moan as he came inside his husband. Their breaths mingled as they panted for air, and he wrapped his arms around the younger man collapsed against him. He planted a kiss on Minoru's forehead and felt him relax further against him. His hand continued stroking the curve of Minoru's spine, a smile tugging on his lips when he felt Minoru's breath evened out. He gingerly took the pale hand that rested on his chest and kissed its knuckles, "I love you," he whispered softly and let his husband rest.
Minoru woke up and blinked away the sleep in his eyes to find Naruto leaned up against the headboard reading next to him. Cerulean eyes gave him a sideways glance accompanied by a warm smile. He smiled back as he pushed himself up, the sheets pooling down to his abdomen. He leaned over and planted a kiss on a sun kissed shoulder.
"How are you feeling?" Naruto asked gently, smiling at how Minoru pressed his lips against his shoulder before pulling away.
"I'm okay," Minoru said with a small smile, "It's just…I'm not used that feeling…"
Naruto noticed the flicker in the dark eyes as they dropped their gaze. He took a pale hand into his, bringing it up to his lips and kissing its knuckles, the silver band on the ring finger, "Just remember, Minoru, what you do in the field does not make you who you are," midnight blue eyes moved back to his, "It makes you what you are. Those two things are completely different."
"It made me feel like a weapon," Minoru admitted softly, "Feeling all that chakra. Seeing all those bodies…" he let out a sigh and shook his head, the hand holding his gave a reassuring squeeze, "I know…I know that as shinobi we will find ourselves in those types of situations, more often than not. And I'm grateful that I was able to handle the situation that would have otherwise jeopardized everything." He looked at the Naruto who was intently listening to him and a fond smile tugged on his lips, "In the end, I know who I am and what I'm capable of. It doesn't scare me anymore."
A proud smile graced Naruto's lips, and the smile he received in return made his heart skip a beat.
